This is a great site as well. Just like I said about Episode-X. Straight forward good site. I found Jedinet while searching for a good site on EPII back about 4 months before EPII. I have gone there ever since.

I used to love love love jedinet, and i still do in some ways. However i don't visit as often as i used to, i think that HS has hurt my website viewing in some ways. In the other movies things that were happening around the set got leaked to the fansites, but now that HS is happening no can talk about what they see there. I also liked the older versions of the site better, i thought they were easier to navigate and updated more often.

Ah, Jedinet, where it all began for me. The first time I ever went on the internet it was on someone else's computer. I had never been online before, never visited a website of any kind, until I checked up on Jedinet because it was listed in a Cinescape (the issue with Boba Fett on the cover, and Liam, Ewan, Jake, Nat, Samuel, and Terrence along the bottom) article about the as yet unnamed Episode I, in August or September of 1998. So I do have fond memories of Jedinet. Then I went to TFN which was listed in the same article, but ultimately I went back to Jedinet cause it seemed more user friendly as well as visually attractive and easier to navigate.

I used to go to Jedinet all the time back in 98/99, back then the site looked fantastic. I loved the color scheme they had going back then. Then it got more of a coookie-cutter website look to it and wasn't as attractive to look at, even though I'm sure it didn't lose any of its content quality and integrity.

II still check Jedinet pretty often but I think it lost something when the prequelwatch.net separated from Jedinet a few years ago. I never knew what happened that caused the schism but I thought the site lost a bit after that.

Still, I think of Jedinet as my home SW site. It's where I first got hooked into the SW message board world and Vader was always pretty nice to me when I worked the old JediCouncil board.

I've gotta agree with what's already been said regarding the look and feel of the site. They old site layouts were 100% better. The content is still going strong, but navigating the site is a pain. And so are all the pop-ups and the ads when you're trying to view a news story.

Just like Tovor, it's where it all began for me as well. Right after I bought my first computer in the summer of 2000, the first site I checked out was Jedinet.com. Also, like Tovor, I had first heard about it from a magazine, however, it was the SW Insider.
I have to agree with most of the sentiment here regarding it nowadays, unfortunately. It seemed more personable back in the day, it's still good, but lacking the old charm.

I still try to check the site daily for news stories. I like the people that run the site and feel they can be trusted unlike some boards *tfn*.

I find I'm using T's site more and more though and I guess that's only natural as I get to know him better that I find myself migrating to his site more frequently than I used to.

Hey T, maybe you could tell me what happened b/w Jedinet and the prequel watch that caused the split?

Hmmm - that's an old story... the details are fuzzy. I think Rob or John can tell it better than I but I think Carl Cunningham who used to run the Prequel Watch section of JediNet wanted to sort of go off on his own for whatever reason... I'm not sure... and when he did Rob took over the Prequels area for JediNet while Carl made StarWarsFan.Org and put PrequelWatch.com in there as well. As for the "whys" and such - I honestly forget now. It was years ago...

I thought Carl was the one that ran the site....If I remember correctly, when I first got Internet connection and began to surf the web, Jedinet and The Prequels Watch were seperate intenties. Then, they merged around 98. The split occured sometime around 99 I believe.....

I notice they got Carl involved in the Jedicouncil discussions on AICN. Where you asked to be involved T? Was Vader or Jar Jar asked? I wondered because it seems odd that no one from the larger SW boards seem to be involved in the discussions. I also don't see anyone from TFN, but I can't blame them there..

I don't think this is correct - Prequel Watch was essentially JediNet Prequels in the old days. Carl and John worked together on that but it was mostly Carl's stuff. You might have come around at the time they were just splitting off.

No, none of us were asked. They'd probably ask someone from TFN before me though, I'm sure. I rarely talk to Moriarty, just an occasional HI and neither him nor Harry really reply to emails I send. No idea how they work over there. I've sent them links to my reports but they don't ever post them, which is totally cool. I understand the site and the things they like to post. They have their reasons. It's a fun site.

Carl left on his own accord. When I came to JediNet in 1998 I was doing multimedia and the Delta Source section. After that I started doing prequels when Carl took a sabattical. When we redesigned after TPM came out we changed prequel watch to JediNet prequels (carl had left), and I continued to develop JediNet with the help of the staff into the news site that it became. Most of the core members are there, and we still have a few others that do some damned good work.

The old prequel watch is in the archives, you just can't get there now.

Was Carl known as "Qui-gon"? Because I remember when I first joined around 98/99 "Qui-gon" was leaving and Jar Jar was taking over his responsibilities, or something to that effect.

He was first Garindan but yea he then went to Qui-Gon I think.

Thanks Rob.

I didn't mean to sound like I thought you'd done a bad job or anything. I still think of Jedinet as my home site. Jedinet and T's site are the class of the field.

I did sorta miss Carl though. I don't know what the difference was, I just got used to his style I guess, so when he left I couldn't help but notice a change.

I try to stop by at this site at least once a day. I've been going to this site for years and I love the diversity of it, news, collecting, multimedia, gaming you name it they got it.
This site is how I first came to the senate as well.

Be sure to vote on the poll at Jedinet (http://www.jedinet.com): Original Trilogy on DVD: Widescreen or Fullscreen? It can be found on the sidebar. The poll ends July 1.

Good call Trilogist, I went ahead and voted (for the Widescreen edition naturally!).

I don't visit Jedinet.com as often as I used to. They lack updates, and doesn't seem so interested as they were before.

Well hopefully we'll be more regular. I think we've actually been more regular recently. Check by for more updates. Admittedly, we haven't had much in the way of spoiler info. So far, we've been a nonspoiler site for the most part. Whether that is intentional or not, I can't say.

Wow, the new design looks great. I was so sick of that other crap with all the pop-ups that I must say... I stopped visiting. But it looks fantastic now, even if some ads still remain.

Are Rob and John still around?

Heh. I remember when I used to work at JediNet.com as "Obi-Wan."

I like the new design. It's different... The bigger fansites need to start shaking stuff up. SW fandom is in a design rut.

I worked JN's prequel section for like two seconds back before TPM. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif Cast stuff, mostly...

LOOONG time ago.

Glad you guys are digging the site.

John has retired, Rob is not currently working on the site, but the door is always open for him.

The ads, well, if I hit the lotto I'd take them off, but it's the only way I can afford to keep the site online -- servers don't grow on trees. I tried to make them less obtrusive with the new design.

Are there any ASP wizards out there reading this who would be willing to help me debug a script that I'm having trouble with for JediNet? I have a pretty good idea what's wrong with it (I can reproduce the error) but no clue as to how to go about fixing it.

Ok, I'm making a bold statement here. Bold as in I'm setting myself a deadline that will be difficult for someone of my meager skills to meet. But here goes:

The new redesigned JediNet theme will be online August 15, the date the new Clone Wars premieres. I'm not one to put much stock on arbitrary, artificial deadlines, but what the hell.
