I totally loved this book I love Luminara she is by far my favorite star wars charicter to date(besides Obi-Wan)
has anyone read this book?If so how many people liked it as much as I did?

Read it. Hated it. There was absolutely no need for a novel that long that covered so amazingly little in terms of content.

If we had ASKED for a guide to the wildlife of Ansion, that would be fine, but instead we asked for a pre-AOTC novel and got a guide to Ansionian wildlife with a smattering of uninteresting story.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif God, I think that was the worst SW book ever (except for the Crystal Star maybe) it was boring, plotless and had horrible jokes. I know they couldn't reveal too much stuff about EP 2, but it could have been done way better.

This book was a labor to read...

It did, however, offer some interesting tid-bits...(e.g. Anakin talking about Yoda's abilities with a light saber...how Yoda was to feeble to actually fight in combat).

All in all, the book had a lot of pages, not a lot of content.

If you are a hard core fan that has to know all you can...then read the book...otherwise, it is probably a skip.

I don't know, I liked it. I may in the minority, but sometimes just a little adventure is good. Sure it wouldn't make for a full length feature, but for a nice read....
I would say that there are better books for content and insight, like Cloaked Deception, but this was a nice teaser into 4 jedis before we got the movie.

I might add that I checked this book out from the library... I may have been disappointed had I spent $25 at the store.

yea i agree with what master G said..

if i had spent 25 on the book i may have been more upset..

but i thought it was ok..

(i loved the green and orange colors on the cover..it looked really good)

as for plot wise..i mean it was interesting in terms of setting you up for AOTC and i liked the fact that you got to know Luminara and Barris a little..and see Obi-Wan's and Anikan's interaction...

didn't they make a reference to it in AOTC? besides the point...

back to plot..i liked it because it was something that was focused..true it wasn't overly compllicated but there wasn't the jumping from planet to planet and scheme to scheme..you got a sense of what the Jedi were going through in terms of mandates and missions..

so i liked it..style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

No Padme huh? Then im not interested. Whats the point of reading a PT star wars book if all the characters are not present. PT is the story of Anakin and Padme and since it doesnt have Padme it just seems like its missing something, I realize she was left out because she and ANi hadnt seen each other since TPM but im sure Alan Dean Foster could have found a subtle way to put her in without her meeting up with Ani and Obi-wan, I admit i have not read the book and am acting on my first impression but i still think im right on the subject

I listened to the audiobook. Not a bad listen. Many crappy books are decent on audio because in the editing process they usually cut out the most boring garbage.

I was initially intrigued by the book, since it takes place between Ep. I and II, but reading a sample chapter from Amazon.com bored me to tears. And in the bookstore I flipped open to a page in which Anakin talks about how Obi-Wan never compliments him on anything, which strikes me as rather cold for Obi-Wan. *shrug*

I'll say one thing for the book: the cover art sure was great! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

What did everyone think of this book?

Personaly i enjoyed the bits when the Jedi's were getting attacked in the city but the rest of it.....The plot, the journey to meet the nomads. I thought it was a bit thin especially the part were Barriss was cornered in the hills and had trouble speaking the laungage, then all of a sudden, everyone spoke basic.

I have to say it is the first book in the EU to leave me feeling bored all the way through.... I only finished it to see if it improved at all, but im afraid it didnt.

I absolutely hated it. To me, TAS wasn't Star Wars. It was Dragonlance or something similar masquerading as Star Wars. The book dragged on quite a bit, and the storyline captured none of the feel of the saga as we've come to know it. If it weren't for my needing to read it for the SWT-G, I would've felt like I'd wasted all my time. As it stands, if it weren't for having all of the books in their first hardback releases, I'd be very upset at having spent so much money on such a poor story.

I can't make a final judgement since I only got about 75 pages into it, but I can say that it just didn't make me want to continue reading. Boring book that I have no desire to start reading again

I agree,it was kinda boring. I did like some of the Anakin parts. Hey, I just picked up Tatooine Ghost. Is that any good any do I need to read the NJO series to follow this book or is it a stand alone.

uhh i would suggest that you read the courtship of princess leia. it would explain somethings that you wouldn't neccesarily understand otherwise. but no you do not need to read any of the NJO books to understand the book. the book is directly after Han and Leia get married.

Nathan Butler

Argh. Tatooine Ghost. I'm STILL reading that, and I bought it on the day it was released. Aside from The Approaching Storm, I have NEVER seen a Star Wars novel that was this much pure FLUFF in my life. Honestly, you might not want to even waste your time with it.

It could be repetitious, but overall TG was excellent imo. In fact, I liked it more than a lot of NJO books.

ChronoRadio rocks, btw.

Having finished Approaching Storm, I wouldn't put it up there with the SW books I enjoyed. The story seemed a bit of fluff, and never really went anywhere. Again, ADF wrapped everything up so quickly and the build-up to the climax (if it even had one) was just ... well, not good. I didn't hate the book, but I didn't thoroughly enjoy it either.

I had to hurry to finish this one so I could get to Shatterpoint any way. That was the only saving grace. Hehe.

TG was fluff, but good fluff. TAS was fluff, but it was bad fluff.

The Thrawn parts, the humor ("it's just going to get in the way"), the interaction with Han and Leia, Shmi's journal, meeting Kit, Wald, and Beru's family all grown up was all good.

TAS only has the ... the ... uh...it didn't have anything that I will remember. Maybe Lumiara's characterization was good. And Barris and Anakin's interactions. Shu Mui being so callous was kind of cool too. We didn't pick that up in the movie. She seemed kind of cowardly ("that could be looked at as treason"). That punk! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

Overall, I give TAS a grade of C-.

i thought Approaching Storm was a mediocre book, i liked the insight on Shu, Barriss, and Luminara, but, Anakin is there the entire time, and yet, Foster skims over Anakin's character. i also thought that it kept building for a climactic ending, and then, nothing.
i give it a 7/10

well not really... it's just a filler for the PT movies. It gives more information on how they got the support of certain guilds etc and of course gives you a better introduction to Luminara and Bariss style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/satisfied.gif

I thought it was pretty pointless. Luminara had what? 2 seconds of screen time? Maybe it will help in Episode III but I'm not seeing it. It was a waste of money. And I bought it in hardcover too... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif

I thought TAS was ok. I enjoyed seeing the interactions of the Jedi and their limitations and individual personalities. I actually liked the introduction of Tooqui. I didn't enjoy the parts with the conspirators at all. TG I enjoyed very much. I thought it was nice to have a book that pretty much focused on Leia and didn't jump from one side of the galaxy to another to bring together several plot lines for once.

<span style="color:blue">The Approaching Storm, tis a very good novel. It got the feel of SW down for me. I felt the characterizations of Obi and Anakin were dead on, and Barris and Luminara was an interesting group. this book was good to me anyway, if you wan't humor go watch the news, this book displays 2 things anakins disregard to other jedi(to me anyway) and two more jedi he will betray in epIII. Damn I can't wait. Oh and explains the whole "they just returned from a border dispute on Ansion" that whole deal is explained. Wraith 11 out.

funny, i remember reading this book but i can't remember what happens. But by reading people's posts, the light is slowly coming on. I suppose that by not really remember it, it shows that it didn't really make that big of an impression on me. But I do remember how character personalities were sort of explored and I liked that.
