Okay. I just remember that they made a special edition Naboo Starfighter that was called part of the ULTIMATE COLLECTOR series and it was really small and kinda lame as I remember.

Geez, I wish I had the space and money for those sets. I&#39;m too broke. I&#39;ve spent over &#036;1000 to build my Lego city so I can&#39;t even look at those because of the painful tempation.

For anyone and everyone who cares . . .

A day of mixed emotions for all Lego fans . . .

**Turn on stereo, play Funeral Bagpipe March**

While 2004 saw the release of many great Lego products (AT AT #4483, remodelled X wing #4502, remodelled Hoth Speeder #4500) the future looks bleak for the Star Wars Legos line.

In this article (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=1211&e=3&u=/afp/20040111/tc_afp/denmark_game_company_lego&sid=96001017), the CEO of Lego laid out the future of his company:

"We are returning to Lego&#39;s former concept. We&#39;re going to focus on building bricks as our main product, concentrating on little kids&#39; eagerness to assemble," he said. His basis: the poor sales of games based on the Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Whatever true meaning lies behind this message, it doesnt look good for us SW Lego maniacs. Then again, this can be construed as a mixed blessing, for I believe we have become complacent and reliant upon boxed Lego sets for building inspiration.

In other somewhat related news,

**End Bagpipe Funeral March, play "Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner**

Lego will continue with its planned re-release of the Millenium Falcon #4504 style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif, scheduled for August 2004, with rumors of an early January release. . .

. . . AND THEN theres this . . .

Lego has announced that it ill add another set (#10131) to its Ultimate Collector Series but has been strangely secretive about its name. The only bit of information I can gather is based on this image:

http://www.sullivannettech.com/version0/images/deathStarBattle.jpg
Webpage here (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.freelug.org/breve.php3%3Fid_breve%3D38&prev=/search%3Fq%3DLego%2B10131%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3 DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DN)

Which leads me to believe that either Lego is preparing for a rerelease of Darth Vader&#39;s TIE fighter in Ultimate Collector scale (not likely) or Lego is hinting at the release of a set in some way related to . . .

. . .The Death Star.

Perhaps a set staged in the hangar of the Death Star, connected to the Detention Block, connected to the Garbage Disposal Area, connected to the hall where Vader cuts down his former teacher, Obi Wan Kenobi?

Oh, the endless possibilities . . .

**End Wagner**

I always preferred the Knight and Pirate Legos to any of the others, Star Wars included...

Does ^stuff mean that they&#39;re going back to the toddler legos, the big huge crappy ones? That would suck. That would really suck.

Senator Theant
01-20-2004, 07:20 AM
No I dont think so, I think this means a shift away from the licensed products (Harry Potter, Star Wars, Nasa, NBA, NHL) to more basic stuff such as (like you said) Knights and Castles and such.

Any way you look at it, after Ep III, this line is dead forever and all those extra SW Lego sets lying around will be worth much more in the future, so start stockpilin &#39;em now&#33;

Senator Theant
03-10-2004, 08:42 PM
Hey guys,

Lego will release the new Millenium Falcon in August. The set is the modelled after the Millenium Falcon featured in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. This explains the characters that accompany the set: Han Solo (in Hoth garb), Princess Leia (in Hoth Garb), Chewbacca (naked, what else?), C3PO, R2 D2, and the ill-fated Snowtrooper with an E-web.

http://www.kamuiweb.com/sitev3/html/modules/icontent/inPages/collection/img-lego/4504.jpg

The set includes a very detailed hyperdrive and an escape pod. There is also a spot for a quad-cannon gunner in the center of the ship. Really awesome&#33;&#33;&#33; For more pics, visit this website. (http://toynewsi.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=2575)

Like I said, the model is scheduled for release on August 8, 2004.

But then, there always controversy . . .

A curious feature of this set is Lego&#39;s decision to incorporate the new peach-toned minifigures. No longer will the yellow-faced minifigures appear in Licensed products (like Star Wars, Harry Potter). Why the switch? Youre best guess is as good as mine.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>LEGO has to stop re-releasing of sets and make new ones
Agreed.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>this is why sales are down.
Disagreed.

The signature models (like the 4502 X Wing and the 4500 Snowspeeder, to say nothing of the 4504 Millenium Falcon) are the driving force of the icon-drived Star Wars line.

Instead, Lego should release more playsets (similar to 10029 Cloud City and Jabba&#39;s Palace) and include more varied minifigures. The "cute little Yoda minifigure" are another driving force.

I don&#39;t rember that one. Is that a real LEGO set? If it is can you put a pic. up?

Senator Theant
05-05-2004, 03:42 AM
Im sorry if I was unclear about my previous post. I used the Queen&#39;s Starship from Episode I as an example of a set that would not bring as much revenue as other, more popular icons of the Star Wars universe. No, Queen Amidala&#39;s Nubian J-327 is not yet an official Lego set. But this only attests to the fact that Lego will continue to release (and re-release, if necessary) older sets to boost the bottom line, at the expense of older collectors outside of their targeted audience (pre-teens and perhaps younger).

But this is a digression. Who really cares? Lego is losing money because it has to compete with mind-numbing interactive video games and increasingly technological toys. Not the fact that there are two different X-Wings. I can hardly believe that the Star Wars license has anything to do with thier loss of revenue. In fact, I&#39;d bet that Star Wars is their one bright spot, considering how many Star Wars collectors are literally compelled to buy anything "Star Wars". But there are many other reasons for its success, not just obsessive compulsive Star Wars fans.

I certainly hope Lego can recover from this "hiccup" to its former strength in the toy market.

Yah it maybe Lego should come out with a SW Lego Creator vido game that might boose sales they did it with Harry Potter so why not SW?

Senator Theant
05-06-2004, 03:37 PM
Ummmm, no. Then they would be competing against the video game super giants that have an enormous following and technological advantage. Can you imagine a Lego Town, USA surpassing Grand Theft Auto as the top video game seller? Me neither. Can you picture a Lego video game where a crazed pizza boy delivers bloody death to unsuspecting civilians (all of whom have a lie in a pool of their own blood looking like this: style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif )Unless they create a Lego Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (which is distinctly non-Lego), Lego may not have a chance in the video game market.

Lego doesnt have to beat EA games or Rockstar Video games to be successful in the field. But they are facing an uphill battle with limited time and resources.

I am suggesting that Lego push forward with whatever is necessary to keep the company afloat, while remaining true to their faithful older modellers and collectors. Dont change skin tones of minifigures 2/3 of the way through a given license. Dont change the old dark greys and light greys. Remember, happy parents will pass on good habits to happy children. All the meanwhile, Lego should promoting building sets that are more interactive and affordable for children from families unfamiliar with Legos. Definitely not by selling an X Wing for &#036;50.

I know 50 bucks for a lego set where I can get a game set that has Age of Empires 2 with add on and AOM and it&#39;s add on for that price.
