Tatooine TV

It's official home is jrdonline.com (http://www.jrdonline.com)

Tat TV is a collection of audio parodies that mix all the Star Wars characters with entertainment icons from our world into one crazy cable channel. It is only in audio, so you'll have to use your imagination on what it looks like (You know, like classic radio shows used to be). Check it out. I need feedback; Good, Bad, and Ugly, but please be specific with comments. We have fantastic vocal performers, and finding great ones all the time. I am constantly writing, and should have constant episodes as time goes on. Did one bit stink? Was one great? Did you think one bit should be continued? Do you have an idea for a bit? These can only get better if you all 1. Listen to them, and 2. (Most important) Let me know what you think. For the most part, each episode includes 1 to 3 bits and are around 2 to 3 minutes long. As we near Christmastime, there will be outtakes, blooper stuff and perhaps a video of us recording some bits. Tat TV also has a place in starwarsfanworks.com (http://starwarsfanworks.com). Thanks again, Nathan. Okay, let the posts begin!

Tatooine TV update: Hey gang. I'm taking a bit of a break through the end of the year. Work is getting crazy, and I have to move this weekend. Tatooine TV will return. Ep. 7 is almost released. Ep. 8 is still being edited. Thanks to the fans, and those who think its "unfunny". We learn from everyone, but we like our fans better. Caio for now.

The Tatooine TV Christmas show is coming! This show will be longer than most, but not too long. It will feature a Star Wars Christmas Carol (maybe performed and recorded live), maybe a song, and a surprise I first heard in 1977 (and could not find til now). Writing is now going on now (with much more collaboration), and we should be ready for release on or aound 12/15/03.

Never fear, Episode 8 and Episode 9 in the normal format will probably be released before the Christmas show.

I'm also kicking around a special "radio show" format with a buddy of mine to do an interview, cause I have some splainin' to do.

The rest of 2003 will be full of releases as well as 2004. Thanks for listening!

Hey all, a bit of an update. My wife and I have moved into our new house, and I am finding all the recording equipment in the boxes as we unpack. Last week, Wild Bill Lundin interviewed me, and I digitized it, and am editing it now. I believe I will release it as a ancillary product to Tatooine TV sometime this week. It will be longer than most, so I will segment it. Writing is hot and heavy for the Tatooine TV Christmas show. The Star Wars Christmas Carol will be a hoot. I believe that I will record the bulk of it live around one mic. It could be really good or a crack up fest. Also, I have a super surprise. Back in the late seventies I heard the funniest rendition of the 12 days of Christmas (and I've heard them all. I don't believe anyone else has heard this version- ever.), and a friend of mine came across it a few months back, and I will include it in the Christmas show as well. William also recorded the 'Bantha Fodder Diet' bit, so that will be making its way into a Tat TV very soon. I also got a call from the globe-trotting Shawn Crosby who just got back from holiday. He has a few redos and new recordings that will be making their way to future epsiodes. I knew the break wouldn't last long... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

The groundwork for the 2003 Christmas show is being laid out now. Intro is done. Note to Nate about the Intro: I actually used the "call your house and record the phone" trick you recommend, and it worked, as you said. All lines for 'The Spy' are done, and the bit is being edited and pre-mixed now. Shawn Crosby, as usual, did a fantastic job. Shawn is the only guy I know that can be given three to five different roles, and he can make each and every one sound different and hit all the punches I write in the script. Amazing. Recording for 'A Different Kind of Scrooge' will be done over the next two weeks. It will be three people in front of a mic (like the good old-fashioned radio days). The '12 days' file is in there. It will be right down to the wire, but it will be worth it. It will be a miracle to pull this off by the 15th, but as we all know Christmas is the time for miracles. Update you all soon. Gang, keep your fingers crossed for us. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif

From where does the "12 days.." came from? SNL?

jerrodd
12-11-2003, 10:55 AM
You are free to put in the "Santa" segment in an upcoming SWD. I have no idea who sang "12 Days". As far as I know, it was an independent recording that surfaced in 1977. The only title for it that I have ever seen was "The Crazy Drunk Lady sings The Twelve Days of Christmas". Thanks for the kind words and the promoting Tat TV.

Tat TV 9 is in the final tweak and mixdown state. It should be released tonight or tomorrow. I've edited a bit differently this time. We will learn more about a famous Death Star battle veteran, and how their fate was different than what we saw. Also, we do an ode to So Cal News, and the lack of news thereof. We will also find out the truth about a droid's distaste for something. Enjoy. :yodaxmas:

I've got the page updates all set to go as soon as I get back to Atlanta. I'll be putting up a news byte, updating it to the newest release box, updating everyone's profiles, and the TTV pages. Nathan, just leave the runtime to fit Orig. Version (as it now shows on my site). I will add to the credits the enhancement I made. Tatooine TV 2004 overview-

2003 was such a great success. Thanks to everyone who gave us critiques and applause! You all help us to get better. We will be kicking down the door to 2004 very soon and come out swinging with, in my humble opinion, the best shows we've ever done. The production process now has fantastic people involved that will raise the level of quality even higher, and oh yeah, make the shows funnier too. I have enlisted three beta readers for scripts, and they have proved to be such great assets to the writing process. More and more people want to be involved in the vocal performance end, as well. We will be introducing new voices to the fan audio genre very soon. You will not be disappointed. Santa brought me a digital voice recorder for Christmas, so as we test this out, this will bring more flexibility and quality as we record "out of the studio". On my hiatus, I did alot of reasearch and there are alot of comedy bits sitting in the recesses of my mind that will see the light of day (finally) this year. We will also be moving into the (gulp) stereo arena when we produce the projects in 2004. We will work toward a more enveloping experience with each project. On a side note, the site will also be hosting other dramatic projects this year. There is a full load of Tatooine TV's yet to sail. 2 part cliffhanger bits, new voices, and crazy times ahead. I am so proud to be a part of such a great Star Wars fan audio "family". You guys and gals rock! An early toast to you for a great 2004! Happy New year to you all!

Tatooine TV update-

I am writing furiously (I mean it), and have many new bits lined up, but...

I also have a few older, unfinished bits that need re-working, re-re-recording, some re-writing and tweaking. I just didn't think they were in a state that they could be released, and I certainly didn't want them to be cast aside and forgotten. Ep's 10 through 12 are coming, but not today, but defintely before next Christmas. Thanks to those who may have recorded parts, and if they aren't used- I'm sorry. There will be plenty of opportunities for new vocal work this year. Oh yes, I am also branching out with new writers. A new gal is penning what I believe will be a new high comedy point for us.

I have also gotten the nicest feedback from some of the visitors to our site. All I ever wanted to do is get these funny stories out of my head and share it with people who would "get it"- you guys do "get it". We are getting better, and it is all due to the fans, friends and critics. It's all good.

Tentative Release date for Tat TV #11 info-

Unfortunately, I did not use the collected lines for 'The Foggy Caper' a throw back to the old radio mystery dramas. The lines have been re-recorded, and other voices will be augmented in. Sound effects are in their tracks slots, so just a little editing and tweaking and it'll be in the can.

Also, there was an old script parodying a popular reality TV show that I will unfortunately not be using the lines I had previously collected. The lines should be re-recorded this week, and it should be done by next week.

Look for the Tat TV Episode #11 the week of 2/1 maybe sooner. Now, that I've cleaned out the old script ideas, we can move forward to the newest batch that will be coming in Tat TV Ep. #12! Thanks for your support.

Tatooine TV Announcement:

Still in a daze from the amazing win of the awards this last weekend, an annoucement will now be made.

Tatooine TV's end is coming. Will it be episode 20, 25, 30? Not sure, but I do want to not wear out the wonderous welcome you all have extended to me.

Oh yes, at the end of the run of Tat TV, I will take a mental vacation and focus on "True Tales: Bible stories with an edge," but... I will return from time to time with Tat TV specials here and there.

Also, I will be collecting the Tat TV episodes, and creating a Director's Edition CD package. On these cds, I will precede each episode with a lively explanation of how I came up with the idea, interview the actors, etc. I will also discuss the "almost released" bits, talk about my influences, and funny stories that I want to fill in the CDs with. The price will only be for the creation of the package, and will be very reasonable. More info to follow.

Tatooine TV update:

My day job is really taking up more of my time (I hate it when that happens) now. I am a software trainer, and I am on the road alot now training and supporting a new product (can you imagine me training you?), so... That will mean a longer period in between Tatooine TV releases. I have collected the lines for 3 bits, but mixing on the road is not an option, so that means a little bit on the weekend and on the week I am at home. I appreciate so much you guys (you know who you are) supporting this project, but I need to do this right now to keep the cable modem bills paid (Cause, ya know, that is the most important one). I am mixing an episode with a bit called "Jedi School" which has a new student learning to be a Jedi- Stuart from Mad TV, and I am also putting the finishing touches on a new multi-part bit that is top secret. I have also been in lengthy talks with my wife (Colleen Roney. You know, the singer and actress on a few Tat TVs) on bits that include the cast of Friends (I did need her help on this one), and a very interesting one with the cast from CSI on Tatooine (It seems someone was trying to cover up a murder on the Lars homestead)... So, that's a bit of a taste of what is to come. Don't worry too much about this brief hiatus, we are like athlete's foot- we'll be back.

Tatooine TV #14 is now out! Shawn Crosby makes a return (after being featured in an article in the newest Wired magazine) to Tatooine TV in Blasterpiece Theatre with "Shmi's Rescue". Listen to it and hear the original version of Shmi's Rescue in AOTC. It is quite different than the version that ended up in the film. Whew, I'm sure glad to be back in the "Newly Released" corner again. I will try to mix the other two episodes that are close to completion, but one of them may need more recording. Thanks for the interest.

jerrodd
03-29-2004, 07:36 PM
I had to let you all know what it was like recording Tat TV #14. I got home from 3 weeks on the road for business, and saw Shawn Crosby's CD with his lines for Blasterpiece Theatre, and decided to put it together. I chose the take I liked and started to cut up the lines. Originally, I wanted Katy T to do the voice of Shmi, but I thought it would be funnier (and yes, very silly) for me to do it. I remember seeing the original scene in the movie, and laughing at it. Its like all the death scenes (except for Obi Wan, and maybe Qui Gonn) in SW have struggled words, campy delivery, etc. , but I thought the Shmi death scene was really over the top, so I decided to really camp it up. I really wanted to mimic her voice, but that is where great acting (not that I am one) and parody cross lines. So, I started performing Shmi's lines, and I lapsed into my multi-racial voices, and it melded into what I thought was very funny. I finished it, and started cutting it together. This was the first totally stereo bit I have ever done. I think it came out very well. I tried to hit the music as close to the original scene as I could. I played the episode back, and laughed. I played it for Colleen, and laughed again (She laughed some, too). Then I uploaded and and listened to again, and you guessed it, I still laughed. Now, you people that think Tat TV's are unfunny, this one cracks me up. I love the premise (making fun Anakin's magical conception), loved the delivery (pardon the pun), I enjoyed the way the music matched the lines (pretty much), and I loved the overacting host (My mild hat tip to Peter Cushing. He was awesome. I tried to mimic him, but couldn't.). I guess this is an example of "What is funny to Jeff". You start with Star Wars, then you have the ridiculous mixed with the funny, a dash of overacting, a pinch of the bizarre, and you have a parody souffle. Ok, you can go back to talking about Chronoradio, ROTO, Trek Wars or whatever... I love my hobby!

Pre-Release notification

Tatooine TV #16 mixed and ready for release date 4/24 (or 4/25). I'm ahead of the game, and have to make myself wait til the release date to share the craziness... The next group of episodes is a bit of a depature for me as a writer. The style which some love and some are- slow to love, shall we say, is still the same, but this is the first multi-part episode group. As the episodes continue, the cast will get bigger, the mixing more intense and the theme will be a bit edgier and will generate some debate or cheers. We will see. The great thing is introducing new talent (I love doing that) with these episodes. We introduced Angela Hanes in Ep. #15. She has the greatest cartoon-type voice (That is a good thing), and I work with her (database nerd by day, blossoming vocal perfomer at night.). She did great, and she was a great addition to the episode. We will continue introducing new talent as the episodes continue til the end. Great stuff is coming.

If things go as planned, Tatooine TV #18 will feature a different bit that has nothing to do with Comm. Pilates. The funniest guy I have ever known has agreed to do some vocal performing for the bit. I am very excited. Once he has sent me his vocal files, I'll shamelessly plug him.

Tatooine TV #19 should resume with the Tale of the mysterious, Commander Pilates.

True Tales----

Final tweaks to True Tales #1 "David and Goliath" are complete, and this script will take a very different dramatic edge to a story you already know. I have taken some extra time to think about all the peoples, armies, etc and built in dialogue that will draw you into the story. There are characters, dialogue, and situations that I really love. The bottom line is, this is not your Grandma's Bible Story. I don't want to go on and on, but this is a departure for me into a replication of a story that has never been tried before. Buckle up and keep watching! I will have some parts available, and with Mr. Butler's blessing, I will create a thread for it here.

JRDonline.com update:

As things progress, you will read more on the message boards and hear less episodes that I have cranked out before. The only thing I can tell you is that Tat TV and True Tales are really coming into their own, and what a great ride they will be. I always wanted to be a director, but the roles of concept writer and producer have now become my passions.

Tatooine TV- Mixing is almost complete on episode 17 which includes Comm. Pilates Part 2. Bigger in scope and time than part one. For my friends up North (Hi Seb, Dany and Brian (::waves:style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif, I may cut the episode in half (as a SWD exclusive!), so they can still play other songs that we can give Seb a hard time about playing. As we add more newbies to the cast list, I couldn't be prouder. I am furiously writing Comm. Pilates part 3, and this one is a doozy! More people, scripted craziness, and a lunch that you will never forget. I also have planned out Comm. Pilates Part 4, and have a good handle on how it will end (but will it end- really?). My wife and I have to write the "forgotten 'Friends'" episode, and I will write out the Tatooine CSI. Busy, busy, busy, and I haven't even talked about True Tales, yet!

True Tales- The script is done, and I'm talking to my partner about casting parts. If the actors in this thing aren't strong- it won't work, so now this becomes my biggest challenge to date. I'll keep you posted. Look for more info on the True Tales thread coming very soon.

What a ride the past few months this has been. Let's see August 2003 to May 2004, uh that's, uh, 9 months. I never thought this would do much of anything. Honestly, this was an experiment. I've won awards, heard the good, the bad, and the ugly feedback, and now my counter is at 994 on the webpage that downloads the Tat TV files. Thanks to you all!

Tat TV Download Page crossing the 1000 mark! Yay (said just like Seb says it)!

Tat TV note:

Mixing will be down to the wire for the Saturday release of Episode #17

I will be introducing something called an "Anti-Ad" in #17. You don't know what it is now, but you will soon. I think its the funniest thing. Wait til you hear the ones I'm recording now.

There is a Yoga section in #17 that cracks me up everytime I hear it.

Shawn Crosby is a fantastic actor. My hat goes off to him.

Colleen Roney is a fantastic actress. My shirt goes off to her (well stop right there, naughty people.).

We will be introducing a new female to our group of Tat TV vocal performers- Ellen Gander. ::polite newbie hand clap for her::

A few more days until Tatooine TV Episode #17 is unleashed upon the Star Wars fan audio community. Be afraid, Be very afraid.

There is a joke on Mo Butler in this episode... Maybe it will be Rich next time...

Tatooine TV update-

Commander Pilates Part 3 is now being recorded. Tapes have been flying through the mail and a new group of vocal actors have been recording files on laptops and getting them back to me. This will be the toughest one for me yet, but it will be a scream. Don't know when it will be released, but it will be worth the wait.

I have put together a bit for Tat TV #18, and it parodies an MTV show (its not what you think), and it does have a hilarious dance segment.

Thanks to all (even those who don't get the humor).

Tatooine TV #18 is available for download!

This one includes:

Tat TV's "Pimp My Stardestroyer"
some surprises made by our good friend, Shawn Crosby

I went old school Tat TV, on this one. I did all the voices, got jiggy with the pitch plugin, and recorded all the voices as adlib takes. I think its the funniest one to date.

Commander Pilates Part 3 should return in a few weeks.

::Tatooine TV update::

Hello all. Housekeeping news first:

Episode 25 will be the finale of Tat TV's initial run. As we have discussed before, Tat TV will return for specials during the year. The best is still yet to come.

A new talent will be added to the group of great vocal performers that I am so lucky to have, and the next episode should have him in it.

Commander Pilates Part 3 is being mixed, and I am collecting vocals from all over. It is a big cast, and big mixing challenge. That'll teach me to write over the top scenes. Its coming, but not yet...

Tatooine TV - The Director's Cut CDs. I had a great interview with Michael Smith over the weekend, and I will be hunting down the folks who have contributed over the months, and record interviews with them. There are a few things I want to try, and it should be very cool.

::jrdonline.com update::

New Website-
Our ISP will be implementing new groovy PHP and MySQL scripts, so the site as it it now will go down for an overhaul very soon, but it will return nifty and wonderful.

Tatooine TV #19-
I have all recordings for the parts, except for one, so limited mixing will begin next week, and I will shoot for the first week of July to release.

True Tales-

The production-
An addition to the production team is my cousin, Ted. He is bringing a real-time connection to the entertainment industry to the project. He is a real asset, and I value his insight and enthusiasm. The script is nearing finality and auditions will begin for parts. This project should be very interesting for the production team as well as listeners alike. We can't wait!

The website-
We will be rolling out its own website soon. We will keep you posted!

Tatooine TV update-

"Jeff, what have you been doing since the last Tat TV?"
Well, thanks for asking. I have been; 1. Traveling alot for work, 2. Waiting on my naughty, procrastinating vocal performers to get their lines in, 3. Writing more and more bits, and 4. Promoting a certain Star Wars fan Internet radio show that is not located in the US. In short, I have been very busy.
"Is Tatooine TV really ending, or is this another corny joke to build interest in your episodes?"
Yes, Tatooine TV is really ending. Soon after the initial run ends, I will begin pre-production for the Arbor day special, and other forgotten holidays.
"Will we ever find out what happened to Commander Pilates?"
Yes. Unfortunately, I don't have the mixing equipment on the road, so I have to mix when I can on the weekends, which slows the production process down considerably.
"Give us hints about what to expect in the final group of Tat TVs"
The final group of bits will be very cool. Sebastian, from Star Wars en Direct has graciously offered his vocal talents to a few Tat TV bits. There will be a CSI spoof, a spoof about petroleum, a spoof about a "well-rounded" filmmaker, a congressional investigation of The Emperor, Downloaders Anonymous, and other cool ones I can't talk about right now.

I still owe SWD a parody (of which I am still writing, and I think I have a final script). Even though the future for Jeff Roney Designs includes dramatic audio productions, parodies and comedies will always be close to my heart.

I really wanted to do a parody with Lil Jon (Ooooookkkaaayyy), but Dave Chapell beat me to it. Darn Dave!

As Tat TV #19 starts to fall into place, I will announce a release date.

It's big, it's mean, it's back...

::Tatooine TV #19:: is now available for download!

Yes, we take you back to a time when it was ok to laugh. There are many high points to this one; 1. Colleen Roney's crying fits (she should get an award for this (IMHO)), 2. My rebuttal to 'that Michael Moore movie', 3. A nod to 'The Simpson's', 4. A mention of one of worst films ever made, 5. Shawn Crosby's evil (and I mean e-v-i-l) delivery of 'ol Palpatine... I could go on, but I won't. So, rush over (or click very fast) to the Tatooine TV Download Page (http://jrdonline.com/tattv.htm)

--------------------------------Tatooine TV Update-----------------------------------------

Tat TV in the near future-
There will be five more Tatooine TV episodes released on jrdonline.com, and episode 25 will be the final episode in the project's initial run. There is a lot of writing and recording going on as you read this. Some bits will be included in the final episodes, and others will be placed in other Tat TV projects coming up- please read on.

Episodes 20 through 25 in their official released state will be much longer than the episodes thus far. We have decided that there are some parodoies that play out better in a longer format.

To our good friends in the great white north who saw a little silliness in a 40-year old's Star Wars experiment, we will create special shorter versions of eps 20-25 that will only available be on Star Wars en Direct. Please listen live to Star Wars en Direct and tell your friends, enemies, neighbors, in-laws, out-laws, and Michael Moore.

Tat TV in the farther future-
As Tat TV winds down, work will begin to pick up on the Tatooine TV Director's cut CD set. This is a very exciting look at all sides and facets of what Tat TV is and who is involved. The are many surprises that will be included. The biggest surprise will be getting all the participants to call Jeff back to record interviews. Wish me luck. All that is known at this point is that:

CD1
Each episode will be included in its entirety. Jeff's thoughts on how the bits came to be. The trials and tribulations of writing and producing them. Interviews with the participants. The mysterious teaser will be included. I will be seeking approval to use the one and only review done on Tat TV, and see if the reviewers wouldn't mind doing at updated look at Tat TV. I will also look into getting an interview from the first person to hear the Teaser, to see what he said then, and what he says now. All should be very enlightening and interesting.

CD2
This will be the actual vision of what Tat TV was conceived to be. It will be all the bits/shows cut in a 'channel-changing' montage. There may be some extra bits or parts of bits that have never been released included only here.

I will cross my fingers and say maybe, possibly, "if the creek don't rise", Christmastime for this. The only cost will be a minimal cost for postage and creation of the package, but not for profit.

Tat TV in the really far future-
Tatooine TV will not die once the sound fades on Episode 25, no. We will focus on larger productions centered around special episodes. I'm thinking Christmas may be a yearly event. I'm also thinking an Arbor Day special would also be great.

In Conclusion-
As we near August 26th, 2004 (my birthday, btw.), it will be a year since a put my silly toe in the water of Star Wars fan Audio, and it has been a great ride ever since. Thanks to everyone, and you know who you are.

Tatooine TV update-

As reported earlier, the remaining episodes (#20 to #25) will be longer than the normal allotted time. So, because of that and to send people over to hear those SWD guys, I will split up the full-length episodes in SWD-only mini episodes, but wait- that's not all! These SWD-only mini episodes will include material that will not be included in the official Tat TV episode release, or the Tat TV Director's Cut CD Set.

The SWD Tat TV mini- episode #1 will include the long-awaited SWD parody. It should be something to listen to. The only thing I would ask from Seb, Dany and Brian is that they do not listen to the mini episode until it is played on the air, then respond about it on the air when it is done.

Sorry if this whole "mini-episode" thing is confusing, but it will help me with limited mixing time available, plus give something cool to they guys who have helped me so much to promote Tat TV. Thanks guys, and remember- parody is a form of flattery, ok?

If the whole SWD parody thing goes well, we will see if I do it again, but I can guarantee that these mini-episodes will all be different in their intro and outros.

Also, Miss Sophie will be stopping by a few times in Commander Pilates part 3 of which I am editing now.

Oh yes, I buried the most important announcement...

I am offering some work in the Tat TV universe. As you all know, as Tat TV ends, I am focusing on True Tales, but there has been limited interest in it continuing on a more consistent basis. I will continue to create specials from time to time, but I am offering a group or a person to create bits or entire episodes in Tat TV's future runs. Tat TV will remain a Jeff Roney Designs production. I will remain executive producer, and have final approval of scripts and the final products, but the rest could be up to you or your group. Whoever writes, mixes, vocally performs, etc would have credit. I have always been committed to keep it clean for the kiddies that listen, so with that in mind- bring your ideas, vocal talents to continue the crazy episodes of Tatooine TV.

Nathan Butler
08-30-2004, 05:20 PM
I like the ideas . . . except . . . If the SWD releases will have material not on the TTV CDs . . . then how can the CDs be the complete TTV? Sounds to me like a big part of the point of getting the CDs might've just gone out the window. Or would there be a later CD with all those bits included?

::Beyond Tat TV::

As Tat TV ends its inital run, I want to give back to the community that has given so much to me. It is interesting, but creatively claustrophobic, being the main vocal actor (but not the only one) and director at the same time. Once the Tat TV Director's Cut CD Set is completed, I want to offer my vocal services to any project that could use it. There are fantastic dramatic work going on here, and I want to participate where I am needed. Believe it or not, I can be directed (Really), and I want to grow as a vocal performer. Thanks again to all you folks. You all rock!! I would even love to be interview by Robbie on SWAB about the state of Prank Calls in the universe. Oh yes, I would also love to be interviewed by those ROTO folks about whether Jawas get sand in their shorts or not, as well. Heck, while we're at it, Nathan, you can interview me about how many Canon lines I crossed with Tatooine TV. Then, I'll settle this Star Trek: Defiant- Altered Reflection's mess, once and for all. After all that, I'll find Bin Ladin, balance the Nation's budget, help W and Kerry get along, and stop the hurricanes. It'll be a big year in 2005 to be sure.

Tatooine TV update-

Tat TV #20 is currently being mixed. This episode will be the longest episode yet (Even longer than the original trailer), at over 20 minutes. I have decided to not release it in chunks in the SWD mini-episodes, because the listeners are confused about where we picked up at last time, so I will release the entire Commander Pilates Part 3 in Tat TV #20. It doesn't have the biggest cast, but it has been the most challenging to date. I am forecasting that the episode will be released around October 3rd.

Other Tat TV news. I have been furiously sending out scripts to many new vocal performer participants and am very happy with the outcome. Even, a Mr. Mo Butler has done some parts for the remaining Tat TVs. That is very special to me, because he was the first person (besides me) that believed in, and wanted to showcase this crazy parody project. Thanks again Nate. Mr and Mrs Evan Stone have also jumped into the parody fray, and a good friend of mine, Chris Battad has lent his comedy voice to a certain Tatooine creature that sounds an awful lot like Tony Montana.

There will be more SWD mini episodes released soon.

Fun stuff is still coming, so stay tuned.

:: Tatooine TV Director's Cut CD Set tidbit ::

Last Christmas, I was working on a George Lucas Christmas Carol bit that was never finished. I was hunting around in my tapes in a junk drawer (yes, I have more than one) and I found a few test takes of a scene with the young George Lucas in school dreaming of being a huge director one day. There were some great moments in it, so I will include them in the 'Almost, But Never Done' section. I will check through all my tapes and see what other gems that I may find.

:: The final four Tat TV Episodes ::

The time it took me to complete Commander Pilates Part 3 almost killed me. I travel for work alot (and I mean alot), so I cannot take the time and care I used to, to get the bits out in a timely fashion. I don't think I want to complete any long bits until the initial run is over.

Thanks Evan. I do think some trims will speed the story along, and if it worked for the 'Phantom Edit', it can work for little 'ol Tat TV. Believe me, it will still pack the punch I was looking for. I wish I had more cross talk from the ladies that recorded for me. That was one thing I didn't have enough of. There are so many little things I love about CPP3; The toilet flushing sound, the starship with the flower holder, 3 most dangerous questions, Colleen's peformance (God, did she hit it), the "Flo" ish waitress, a tip of the hat to ANH and Santa Clause "We are here to rescue you," the background music for the store and the bistro, Shawn's performance (He is A-mazing), the glass breaking when the rescue squad arrives, The female voices that go faster and faster, Last but not least, the naming of a portion of the script of a brand of deodorant (before it came out, I might add).

A bit of an update. I am sending some half-finished ideas to a new comrade for re-tooling and writing. The end will be the best. Put your seatbelts on!

There are so many little things I love about CPP3;

I'm finding that it's the little things that make this episode great.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>the starship with the flower holder,
Yes.. I pictured a starship/new beetle; great imagery!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>3 most dangerous questions,
Oh, man... you could see it coming... and of course he goofs it up completely. I love the character you play - the all-informed-knowing-about-women man-behind-the-comlink...

All men hate those questions (er, at least I hate them...). However, I love the "alternating technique." I'll have to try that the next time I'm cornered at Macy's...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Colleen's peformance (God, did she hit it),
My favorite line of hers is "I'll destroy you!!! I'll destroy yooooouu...hooo...hoo... Pooky Bear...."

and "She who limits herself, limits herself."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>the "Flo" ish waitress,
Yllas, er, Sally rules.

"No, you see... my name is Sally... and I'm dyslexic. You're still not gettin' it..."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>a tip of the hat to ANH and Santa Clause "We are here to rescue you,"
Honestly, I didn't get the reference, but the deadpan delivery was hilarious.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> the background music for the store and the bistro,
ESPECIALLY at the store... The best moment with the store music is immediately after the "Three Hours Later..." when the loop starts up again... a truly classic moment. I caught that and I was dying laughing (at work of course... the most embarassing place).

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Shawn's performance (He is A-mazing),
I gotta agree.... Stone is an awesome character that he plays flawlessly. Great timing, and that hokey William Shatneresque delivery.

You've GOT to have more adventures of Admiral Stone after this... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/grins.gif

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>the glass breaking when the rescue squad arrives,
LOL. Yeah... I wondered about that.... if it was supposed to sound cheesy or what.

Here are some of my personal favorite lines (ones that I have to keep playing over and over and over...): Stone: "Oh.... my... Sarlacc Pit..." (mentioned in an earlier post)
The Imperial March cell phone/comlink ringer.
Admiral Stone's doorbell.
Stone: "Okey Dokey!"
Pilates: "Okee Te-dokeee!"
Stone: "Okey-Peeyokee!"
Gratto: "Okay... Will you just get away from her???"
Gratto: "...since they are the masters of conversation, and men are not..."
Officer Contessa (BTW, there doesn't seem to be a credit for the flower delivery guy...)
Pilates: "Anyway... So I bought one of those home liposuction kits.. like the one from the infomercial... I just LOVE it!!!..."
Stone (at diner): "Well, kill it first... uh... then cook it about medium - I don't want my dinner roaring.. heh heh heh...." (OK, actually it's the "Well, kill it first" that gets me EVERY TIME!!!)
Stone: "Salads all around, please, Dyslexic..."
Stone (frustrated): "Wait a minute!! I never did all those things!!!" <--- I don't even know why I find this soooo funny, but I die laughing every time I hear it (perhaps it's happened to me one too many times???)!!!
...and I can't believe you went into the topic of "Red Zones."

But all in all, a great episode. Not much negative stuff to report, other than the high level of noise on one of Pilates' friend's lines, but that's about it.

::Tatooine TV Tidbits::

Tatooine TV Episode #20 stays as is. I have listened to it again, and I do feel it is a bit long, but as the scenes change, and the great stuff in those scenes, I feel it moves along rather well given the length. So, no version 2.0, so "Greedo will always shoot first" in this one (shall we say). Super quick note- I have updated the Tat TV credit page on jrdonline.com to include a few parts I missed (Thanks Evan for letting me know).

Vocal performance files are pouring in. I thank all the hard-working vocal performers that have read well and gotten me the parts. Now, if Sebastian could get his parts to me...

The remaining Tat TV Episodes will be varied. New writers, new vocal performers will bring a different edge to the remaining episodes.

A quick shoutout to my bro in the South, Robbie. We did an interview last night and I jumped up on my sopabox no less than 3 times. It was a great interview and we talked (or I talked mostly) about a "great many things". Thanks again Robbie. You rock, dude!

No less than you do too Jeff! I must say that he, on more than one occassion, had me almost falling out of my chair to the floor laughing my butt off!!! I'm just glad I wasn't trying to eat or drink during this interview!!!

So all Tatooine TV fans keep an eye out on Star Wars And Beyond for info. on when the Jeff Roney interview will air. Not sure on date just yet. It could be as early as January, or it could be as late as May. Will let you all know either here or on the SWAB thread as soon as that information becomes available.

I'll be keeping both eyes out for it, and the 3 fans of Tatooine TV will, as well, Robbie. Oh, I almost forgot...

::Tatooine TV Episode #21 is now available for download!!::

This time we offer-

Luciano the Lizard. SWD listeners heard this first, and now its available for the rest of the world. Luciano introduces a new vocal performer named Chris Battad who has a goal of being a stand-up comedian. From what you hear on this one, its easy to see that he will be a hit, but we had him first!!

Downloaders Anonymous. Mr. Butler was gracious enough to do a role in this one as the group's "leader". Evan and Tina Stone both perform roles on this one, as well. They are great, and I hope to snag them for more roles as Tat TV winds down. How would R2 talk if you could hook him up to a "beep translator". You'll have to listen and find out.

Thanks for your support.

Hold Your Gas. A public service announcement about the dangers of gas- even in the Star Wars galaxy. What would Sebulba, Jabba and Jango sound like, if they had- gas? Listen and find out.

Jar Jar's "Pierce it Quick" Piercing Parlour. This was in the "half done" pile, and I dusted it off, tweaked it a bit, and give it to you all. This one still makes me laugh everytime I hear it.

::I need your help::

Hey guys and gals! I am in the midst of writing the Han and Leia's Wedding Reality Show "Wedding in the Stars" bit (which will be included in the final episode), and I need your help. During the initial run of Tatooine TV, I have heard some critics that call the episodes anything but funny. To remedy this, I am calling upon all of you to send in any joke ideas for WITS that you think would be funny to be considered to be include in one of the final Tat TVs. If your joke is included in the script, you will recieve a script input credit. So, if you still don't get the Tat TV humor (You all know who you are), then this is your chance to add your comedy writing skills to a great bit. Thanks in advance for your help and input. Please, do not post the ideas here (We do want to keep the jokes a secret until the episode is released). Please, PM them to me. Nathan, please plug this. Thanks.

::Tatooine TV Director's Cut CD Set News::

The release date for the set will be pushed to the first quarter of 2005. I would like more time to collect test versions of old Tat TV intros, and alternate takes, etc. I also need more time to line up interviews with the vocal performers involved, so because of that and other audio surprises, I will push the release date. Besides, I would like to focus on the remaining Tat TVs to give them the attention they deserve. Thanks for the fans and the folks that want to be involved in the last few episodes. Oh yes, there are videos that have been done that may surface on a dvd that quite possibly could be included. More on that later...

Lessons Learned

The Good News-

I bought a brand-new wonderful, super-charged computer (a Dell if your wondering), and I upgraded my mixing software. So, as far as that goes, it's great.

I am also collaborating with a SW fan audio personality on a script, and I'm very excited about that.

The True Tales script is almost complete (yes, but this time for real), and after some pre-production reviews and tweaking, production will begin.

The Not-So-Good News-

See, I have been a good computer backup kind of guy, and up to a few weeks ago, I had backed up all my older Tat TV files for tweaking for the Director's Cut CD Set, but... I have also mixed a few bits for upcoming Tat TVs, and then... my old computer got a virus/error thing and viola!- all gone. So... I have to recreate any new Tat TVs on the new software on the new computer, so it will take some time. Suffice it to say, that Tat TV will still have 25 Episodes, but if they are released before the end of the year- it will be a miracle. I would say that there will be no more Tat TVs before the end of the year. To the two fans we have, thanks and hold on a little longer for more silliness.

:: Jeff Roney Designs Announcement ::

From the beginning of our creative road, we shunned the use of video for a lot of reasons, but that day is over. We have purchased some very good quality video equipment, and are writing a script to try to create a parody video. We are not leaving audio production all-together, but this is an opportunity we must take at this time. So, we will be quite busy for awhile, and every project that we are involved in will be pushed back. If this project comes together as we think, it will be so cool. We will keep you posted, as things pan out. Thanks, Jeff

After weeks and weeks of writing, re-writing, further re-writing, shooting, reshooting, editing, spans of no sleep, then more editing, and now, all there is left to do is Fedex the Submission form to Lucasfilm, and it will be complete. There will be another longer version cut, after the submission version has been viewed by Lucasfilm/Atomfilms reviewers. I will make it totally available then. It is my first film. It's no Citizen Cane. Heck, its no Porky's 4, but I love the story, and there are scenes, lines and shots that I love, and I will never forget. ::RotSocks Update::

Ahh, doing your first real video (the second video, if you count the SWD parody video). The thrill, the agony, the sleepless nights, and the "thinking it looks great, because you've looked at it for so long" trap. Ah well. The first group of reviews have been mixed and not-so-good. Apart from my heartfelt, "Well, I thought it was funny," retort. We will probably run this through the lessons learned path, and move toward the "2nd, but much better video" which is in pre-production now. Based on a few more reviews, I may do some more editing and release it for all to see, but not at this juncture. Doing videos is tough, but darn it, I think I can make it work. I have more stories to tell. Thanks for the support and honest critiques. Even though critiques are hard to take, I appreciate them.

For better or worse, our first fan film is released. It is not a comedy persae (but I think some of it is funny), but we think it is a light-hearted story of a jaded Star Wars fan who finds his 'inner fan' before Episode 3 comes out. The editing is atrocious, production value is fair, some of the acting is good, but we did try some sound tricks, etc, so it was a learning expoerience all around. The outtakes we tacked onto the end are pretty funny. Enjoy, let me know what you think. The original running time was 14:59, but the film has been cut down to 7:50 (with outtakes after the credits).

Hello gang. I'm having a bit of trouble (cuz I knew I would) compressing my video to an internet downloadable size. Michael Smith has offered to compress it for me, and I am grateful, however, I need to learn to do it myself. I don't have the Squeeze suite, but I do have Adobe Premiere Pro and Dr. Divx. I used Dr. Divx, but when I played back the divx file, the audio is no longer in sync with the video, so I would like to concentrate my learning on Premiere Pro. What I need are step by step instuctions, and a little briefer (data rate means this... etc). I'm sorry that I'm having to lay it all out like this, but once I understand all the hows and whys, it will be easier for me in the future, but it is very tough now. I know the picture of the presently available video is too small to read the credits, etc, so I need to find out what is an acceptable size (picture size and file size) for an 11 minute video. I'm starting from the ground floor here, everybody, and I appreciate any help in getting up to speed on this.

Born- August 26th 2003
Died- August 27th 2005

It has been a great experience to write, produce and mix these comedic episodes (Even though, some of you didn't think so). Getting everyone to record this last one has been a pain I wish no longer to endure, so I say that's it, goodbye, adios, and bub-bye to Tat TV. I ran out of script ideas, and people to record stuff. I'm not bitter, I have other audio ventures to move on to. Thanks for the kind words, the awards, even the not so kind words, and generally putting up with a 40-something year old around here. Its amazing that I learned eveything I did on the fly, and by emulating all of you here. I may (and I stress- may) put out a special in the future, but I need to take a break from Tat TV for a (long) while. You all here have given me so much, I will always be in your debt. I don't want to start naming names, but thanks Nathan, Dany, Seb and Brian for giving these little audio parodies a chance. I hope my new ventures will raise the bar, and some eyebrows around here. Hmm- this is very interesting. See, from the time I started my little parody experiment called "Tatooine TV", I really knew I was the biggest fan, and if anyone else thought it was funny, too, that'd be great. I never expected to win any award, but I won several, and I kept thinking it was a weird dream I was having. I was flattered and shocked at the same time, but I never expected the response. Now, the fact that I haven't made any new episodes for months now, the announcement that Tat TV was ending (but maybe one more), and the moving of the files to the new site- I just thought that the little experiment would fade into the sunset- until the other day... As everyone knows, I am pushing RoneyZone Radio very hard, and am noticing some interest in it (which is very cool). On a fluke the other day I started looking at the download stats for Tat TV, and I was shocked again. Here are the downloads from jrd-now.com (this doesn't include jrdonline.com):

Tat TV 1 - 18 downloads. 18? This was the first, and it was iffy at best.
Tat TV 2- 4 downloads
TTV 3 - 5 dl
TTV 4 - 6 dl
TTV 5 - 5 dl
TTV 6 - 4 dl
TTV 7 - 5 dl
TTV 8 - 5 dl
TTV XMAS - 6 dl
TTV 9.5A - 6 dl
TTV 9.5B - 3 dl
TTV 10 - 4 dl
TTV 11 - 3 dl
TTV 12 - 3 dl
TTV 13 - 3 dl

The rest are 2s and 1s.

Sure, its not hundreds of dls, but I'm surprised at any downloads at all. I'm just glad that; 1. No one had forgotten, and 2. It seems that new people are getting a chuckle now and then from Tat TV. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

A few news bytes:

Tatooine TV 25:

I made another phone call to Mr. Shawn Crosby about the lines that are still outstanding on TTV #25, and as yet, no response. It doesn't look good- again, at this point, but a bit of good news-

Tatooine TV Director's Cut CD Set:

Well, notes are now being written for the commentaries for each episode, and I will begin to record and put the package together. Hey, at least its something.

Hello all. Ahem. I may need a little help with some voices. Let's say they are established characters; Like Palpatine, for instance, Yoda, Obi Wan, Luke, and Darth Maul. No real reason really (cough), just checking. Who out there; 1. Is reliable, 2. Can nail the voices (spot on or pretty close), and 3. Have pretty good mics to record. Okay, again, no real reason for this : wink :, just checking... Thanks.

I might be able to do a Maul, but considering he has all of 1 line in the saga, I don't have much to compare to.

"Yeeeah yeeah word to yo motha."

LOL, I just got to listen to it, Jeff, one of my favorites, easily.

Loved the rapping, and the "where droids are people too" jingle.

I am so happy to see this back, I remember the first one I listened to had "Qui-Gon's Gin," which was one of the best titles EVER.

Alhon
02-28-2006, 09:51 PM
I must admit, I loved the cheesy intro! Didn't care for the theme song; a little too much like your clown in Ep. 22-ish.

Paris Hilton. Need I say more? :p

All in all, great show! I look forward to more!

I forgot about the clown in Ep. 22. Sorry, I'm old, and I now run the risk of repeating myself. See. my favorite part of the "theme song" was when I said 'and then'. I don't know, it still cracks me up. Mr. Chapman was my lame attempt of immitating Wallace Shawn from The Princess Bride (without the lisp). The rapping was a lot of fun!

:: Production Team Update ::

As you are aware, our writing team has grown with the inclusion of John Cosper and Jack and Gretchen Hall, which has fueled Tatooine TVs new burst of creativity and excitement. Wow, who knew?

Our group of vocal performers is growing, as well. Over the next few episodes, you will hear new talent, and I am so excited to bring them on. What I'm floored is that there are a number of women (I've always had too many guys.). So...

I am furiously writing a number of ads for podcasts (Which will use the new vocal performers, as well), so I'll be shopping them around to any podcast that will play them.

And then, there's the movie that's in pre-production- Solar Flare.

Whew, if you would have told me last year that Tat TV would be resurrected and going full speed ahead this year- I would have said you were crazy. I was wrong.

I have to say thanks to all of you who have been a part of, promoted, gave a chance to, and believed in this little Star Wars parody experiment. I believe this year, it will come into its own.

Jeff,
If you would be willing to sen those commercials to me, I would love to put them on the next episode of TJCS (airing March 1st). Let me know what you think.

:: Major Tatooine TV announcements ::

The new Tatooine episode has been released! It includes Star Wars Survivor Part 2.

Tatooine TV is now a podcast!

Our first ad was played on Father Roderick's 'Daily Breakfast' podcast last Thursday, with other ads being sent around to many other podcasts.

Jeff will be lending his vocal work to other podcasts in the near future.

We are now establishing connections to other voice over professionals for ads and possible vocal acting in the future.

Great scripts are still being written, and other projects will be annouced very soon.

2006 will be a great year for jrdonline and Tatooine TV!

Again, thank you all for your support and promotion!

Wow, the great scripts keep rolling out of my mind onto the computer screen. The one I'm working on involves voting on the Evil leader of 2006 (So So funny, wow. I think this one may be 'Nathan chuckles' funny), and then I just finished another one about Han's bachelor party. All these scripts, and I still have more ideas to unveil as time goes on. I say again, what a year.

Natalie Nicole Gilbert has a great voice. Yesterday when I included the bluemilk TTV promo in the edited version of the SWD podcast, I was surprised how good her voice sounded, very nice, very clear... very professional. :thumbs-up:

Thanks, Natalie is a dj, singer, vocal actress, cool gal, and (she doesn't know it yet, but) a Star Wars geek in training. Also, wait til you hear the british guy we found, too. He is incredible! Not that Michael Smith isn't (of course), but its a different kind of incredible.

I've been doing some more promoting, and I found this posted on a message board about Tat TV and RotSocks.

"the tatt TV mp3's are great. the movie su(o)cks..."

The RotSocks comment is true (RotSocks is an acquired taste, like Sushi (I hate Sushi)), but other people think Tat TVs are great. I think I'll keep this Tat TV stuff up for awhile. :D
