In 2001, after the demise of Jedi Talk and before the rise of ChronoRadio, the fan radio revolution took its next steps in Canada, where a group of French-Canadian Star Wars fans joined together to create Star Wars en Direct, the world's first, and as far as we know only, French-language Star Wars fan radio show. Since September 2003, SWD began its biggest challenge yet .. . Making a another show in the hosts' second language (english), and recapturing, in their own way, part of the legacy that made Jedi Talk a great show.

Star Wars en Direct (SWD) which translates into english as Star Wars Live is a live web based radio show where the hosts discuss different subjects, make reviews and interviews related to the Star Wars universe. The listeners are welcome to participate live during the show in their chatroom or by interacting via the phone, e-mail or the message board. Both French and English shows are usually 2 to 3 hours long and are aired live separately on the same day.

Yes, we're finally online! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Hope you like the show. It will be a little difficult at first getting use to discussing SW topics LIVE in english, but I'll manage it on the long run. I'll be easy to spot.. the guy with the big accent. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

That's why I'll be the co-host instead of the main host as in the french version of the Show. Sebastien is more at ease with english than me.

We're all bigtime excited guys. Keep us informed!

(SWD now also has an area on Fanworks, http://www.starwarsfanworks.com/swendirect.html for those curious.)

Pretty good show for our premiere in english. The main "Dark Forces" part wasn't that great and a little bit too long but we are satisfied of the end result.

SW en Direct is an interactive show so listen to us LIVE and join the fun!

Both show (french & english) we're aired LIVE today. The archives should be online shortly.

The air times are always mention on our official site. The English show USUALLY begin at 7PM Eastern on Sundays (bi-Montly). But keep a eye on the website for dates and time because they can change.

The french show is at 1PM Eastern on Sunday just before the English show.

Nathan.. i'll send you all the info for the update on fanworks sometime tonight.

Nathan Butler

Cool. I'll actually be able to listen to a regular episode. Then I'll go back for the interviews. I was never into the interviews because I didn't want to color my own with what others might've already asked if it was the same person, and I felt I didn't know enough about the hosts to really identify with them. Now that the English is up, I should be able to catch up on some of the interviews, too.

As for the updated info, I'll put it in the update queue. Still waiting on some info. At the latest, it should go up Thurs. night.

Hey all.
Good to see you guys are getting into the english game. I just downloaded the first english episode. I have only listened to the opening but it sounds like you guys got it nailed.
It is good to hear a show again. Not to say anything bad about the prerecorded shows. But Live is the only way to go. Talking to your fans keeps things livly and interesting. At least in my opinion.
Anyway good job guys I hope to hear more from you. If you need any help you can fell free to ask.

PS Jesus tbone you ever going to get a new picture for yourself?????

Great to have good comments from you Darion. We'll do our best to do justice to JediTalk. You made it all possible for us.

We now have to build a live audience, that the biggest difficulty. Hope to see you and the JT crew in the chatroom someday.

well Lunatic if you're looking to get even more of an audience then email me and I'll give you information for contacting the owner of Outpost10F.com, Andrew.

I work with Nathan on SWF *hugsit* plus I'm one of two in charge of the Star Wars genre at Outpost10F.com so it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Oh and the three of us, Andrew, Glenn and I are Canadian with Glenn being in Quebec so that might help style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

We might try to cut down the time of our show. Two "3 hours" shows (French and English) in one day is really exhausting. The 6th hour is a killer... and it shows in the hosts performance. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hehe.gif

Do you have any suggestion for upcoming show?

For the next show (SWD 39) we've talk about doing something around:
Crazy Star Wars theory, Star Wars Halloween Special
Any other suggestions?

For mid november: probably NJO - The Unifying Force

December (last show of the year): Star Wars the Holiday Special

Any suggestions for next Year?

jerrodd

Here's some:

1. Star Wars friendships, or Star Wars romances. Have you met a friend or a girl/boyfriend or spouse because of your love of Star Wars?
2. What things did Star Wars open up for you? (Like a love for symphony music, writing, movies, etc)
3. How would you rewrite an already existing Star Wars movie? (Not just "No Jar Jar")
4. Star Wars and religion. Does your religion fit within the framework of the Star Wars story, is Star Wars your religion, or is SW just a story.
5. What is the force and what are the midiclorians?
6. What prequel revelations made your upset and why?
7. Do you love the (released) prequels or the original trilogy better? Why or why not?

There ya go. Jeff

Totally forgot to post this link earlier, but still a good visit:

www.nerf-herders-anonymous.net

It's a great reference site.

As far as topics for the show go.

there's always my crazy theories about the colors of lightsabers, and then there's the dual meaning of the titles, and of course the "history repeating itself" in the NJO serie.

How the Star Wars Universe has influence your life?
On this show, we are asking the question, How the Star Wars Universe has influence your life? (Good or Bad). Did it opened up new passions for you? Did it influence some decision you made in your life?, etc. Send us your stories and/or experiences at studio@swendirect.com or down below in this topic.

As a secondary topic, we would like to know if you have some crazy theory of explanation (funny or serious) about the Star Wars Universe. We will discuss those on the air. No Episode III theory or spoiler please.

We will only take messages from this board that have been posted before the beginning of the show. Thanks.

Hey guys! Thanks for playing Tatooine TV Ep. 7 on your show #38. Your show #39 was great. You covered many topics that I would have said, if I wrote in. Keep up the great work! You should devote a show to female Star Wars fans. Star Wars, in general is a guy thing, and I think it would be interesting to hear from women who fought against the "Britney Spears/Friends" mold to enjoy Star Wars and its universe of fun. Great job, again.

We had a plan for a Women based show for 2003, but it was pushed to next year. We had generation of Women (teenager, twenties and thirties) who were supposed to be at the studio. But its difficult, for all three to be there at the same time and do a complete French show followed by a complete English show.

We may have to split the show in two to give them a break. I'll discuss this with Sebastien.

Star Wars en Direct Special Edition #4 - November 14-15-16th, 2003
---------------------------------------------
Star Wars en Direct at SFX Montreal
This weekend we invite the Star Wars fans to come and meet us at the Palais des Congres in Montreal (Canada) for the 2003 Sci-Fi Expo. This special edition SWD show will be recorded on the convention floor and will be about Star Wars, fans and Sci-Fi in general.

The show will unfortunately not be broadcasting Live on the internet because we won't have a connection from the convention floor.

The exact time for the show is not yet determined, so come and meet us at one of the rare Sci-Fi convention in Montreal.

Note: Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Bruce Jones (SW Comics) and Jeff Cioletti (fanfilm Silent but Deadly 1 & 2 and documentary Millenium's End, The Fandom Menace) will be at the convention.

Come and meet us this weekend !

Hey guys,
Just wanted to congrat you on all the success you are have with starwars en direct. Seems like you guys are really getting out there. It is good to see the fan audio commuinty expanding, but I think that is largely due to the success of En'direct.
I am stoked for you guys it could not happen to a better group of poeple. You have always pushed your show to be the best, but more importantly you have done it with great honor.

Do you have any preferences?

Nathan Butler
11-20-2003, 10:55 AM
I agree. Great interview.

RE: Next Ep

Yeah, we can do it that way if you want to call. I don't think there's much to do a N's Rumblings on for the topic, since I dug the book. I can preview a bit about CR 12. It more was sort of an overall looking back interview with Mike Cooper of the Unofficial New Jedi Order Homepage, but we did cover it, and then we covered some of the deaths in the NJO during the "EU Deaths" discussion with Official Site mod (and SWT-G research assistant) Brien Bell.

If I'm around and up for it on that night, which I should be, I'll go into the SWD chat during broadcast.

Lunatic
11-20-2003, 01:27 PM
Ok, we'll ask you then if your are in the mood.

Thanks for the comments TB, Nathan. Worst of all, the interview was totally improvised. We didn't have any question ready when the show started. We'd saw SBD I and II and Millenium's End, that was our only reference. We would have liked to continue the interview with Jeff but guests we're lined up very tight.

We may have another show with him as a guest... you could even join in at the same time TB since you live about 20 minutes apart. If you have a speaker phone or two phones plugged in your line, should be no problem at all.

Arn't you the main host in the french shows?

BTW, i think your English is fine, yes you have an accent but I can understand you fine. Besides it is kind of fun with you and Seb trying to figure out what your trying to say, it adds a lot of personality. And poor Brian (I think his name is Brian) trying to follow the conversation and help you two out. Lots of giggles.

I can't believe that people from the south speak english worst than me and with more accent. I just can't style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Yes Im the Main host in french... but its easier for me. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Brian is the only one who a real Anglophone, that why he's helping us. Both is parents are English speaking. He learned French in school contrary to me and Seb that learned English.

The difference is that me and Seb are use to hosting Live shows from all the ones we've done. Brian is new to it (english show only), so he got to get the dynamics down. But He'll get there with time.

Its cool to do this Live.. the adrenaline, the unexpected, the spontaneity, and the fans. Its too fun for us. You can't imagine. If we could, we would invite you all in studio. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Well, in Quebec, being the only province (territory) in North America where people speak almost only French, we don't have a choice to learn English. Its a basic course that's teach to us as early as 8 y/o and every year there after until at least 17 y/o. We don't have a choice if we want to communicate with the rest of Canada and you guys.

But dont you find our accent sexy? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Joking, we actually don't have the european accent from France, here. Our language and accent as evolved differently.

Anyway, back to the subject of the show right?

If you didn't see our official website, we announced our next subject. Should be interesting. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif We definitely want you to be available on the phone for that one. Who know Lucasfilm might be listening in. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Star Wars en Direct #09 - January 18th, 2004
The future of Star Wars on the small Screen

On this show the hosts will be discussing the future of Star Wars on television. The impact it would have on the Star Wars fandom, the merchandising & collectibles, on the saga itself and on the continuity.

You want Lucasfilm Ltd. to produce a regular TV show, mini-series or cartoon in the years following SW3? You have an original idea for a show or suggestions on producers, on actors who could play certain characters or your favorite era you want them to explore? Let your voice be heard and tell them what YOU want! Send your comments or phone number (for us to call) to <span style="color:red">studio@swendirect.com</span>. Lucasfilm might be listening in !

We want to have your comments On the Air via the phone if possible, so Live participation by the fans is of most importance for that particular show.

Live Broadcast begin at 7PM Eastern !

Remember!, be there in the chatroom if you want us to call you during the show.

Do you guys plan to do a show about Timothy Zahn's upcoming novel Survivor's Quest and/or his upcoming novel about the Outbound Flight Project or maybe an interview with Zahn next month?

Lunatic
01-24-2004, 02:55 PM
Of course we'll do a Survivor's Quest show! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif ... or at least a segment after the book is out including our comments on it and take reviews from the fans by e-mails and phone calls.

As for an interview, we'll try to have the Venerable Timothy Zahn on our show, but it's definitively not an easy task to get contacts as SWD is a non-lucaslicensing related organisation/website. And we're not well knowed yet as TFN LLC or Starwarz since we've been on the air (english) for only 5 months. Give us time. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif But we'll do our best, that for sure.

Girl Power! The Women of Star Wars Fandom

Star Wars a guy thing? NOT! There's always been women in the Star Wars fandom and this show is dedicated to them. Us guys want to know your point of view of the Star Wars Universe and fandom. How did you discover SW? How does your boyfriend or kids react to your passion for SW? Why do you think there's fewer women than men SW fans?, etc. You're one of thoses outspoken female Star Wars fan and you want to express youself for all the ladies out there? Send your comments or phone number (for us to call) to studio@swendirect.com.

Since we don't have a female host on our show, your participation is very important ladies! Pass the information along.

We'll also have the opportunity to interview Voronica Whitney Robinson author of the Star Wars Galaxies Novel : The Ruins of Dantooine. Send us your questions by e-mail or in the chatroom during our Live show.

Depending on what I end up doing this weekend, I may or may not be around for the live show (I may have to be leaving right after we do the award announcement stuff that night). If I happen not to be, you might mention that the excellent non-fiction "cultural anthropology" study of Star Wars fandom, "Using the Force: Creativity, Community, and Star Wars Fans" by Will Brooker has a full chapter on female Star Wars fans and how their circumstances and fandom exist in relation to male fandom. Really great book.

I have a request for a future topic on your show. How about the future of SW novels after 2005 or what the last SW novel will be about.

I hear you were talking about doing a show on the fabled sequel trilogy. Any idea when that will be?

Lunatic
02-11-2004, 11:06 PM
Those are good Ideas Ron. We'll take note. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif

In fact we did a show about the "future of Star Wars" february 8th 2003 when we didn't have an English show yet. We could redo it in english with the more recent infos.

As for a show on the Sequel Trilogy, well it could happen anytime. We actually decide the subject of our following show one or two week before it airs. We do this simply because we want our show to follow current events happening in the Star Wars fandom/publishing/universe, etc. and also because we're lazy. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

For example, our next show (feb 29th) could be on the "Original Trilogy on DVD" + "Review of Survivor's Quest" because its recent news.

Is CGI taking over Hollywood?
The Star Wars movies we're always ahead of their time in Special effects. Nowaday, most, if not all the special effects in a movie are done by computer graphics an animations. They are cheap, relatively fast to create and very close to reality. What is the impact of CGI on Hollywood? How far will it go? Does the actors, the artisants and the film industry itself needs to worry about the growing place that CGI is taking in movies right now and in the future? Send your comments or phone number (for us to call) to studio@swendirect.com.

For our secondary subject we'll simply speculate on the mysterious changes that are coming for the Official Star Wars Fan Club as announced on their web page.

Hey man, get off my page. hehe. I was planning on putting one out after we get our website up. I don't know if its a case of great minds think alike or there is some weird internet radio mojo that guides all of us into similar ideas. I plan to sign up.

Hey folks! I'm back out of my cave again. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

This should be an interesting one! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

This sunday's show will be about Star Wars Message Boards. Here's the details...

The Official Boards, TFN's Jedi Council, The Galactic Senate, and others. On this show we'll be dissecting the major SW message boards and give our own opinions. But our opinion doesn't necessarily represent the common fan. So where asking you, "politics aside",...

- Do you participate and/or lurk on message boards and why?
- Which board(s) do you prefer and why?
- How much time do you spend on boards?
- What is the behavior of users / moderators?
- Any good or bad experiences?

You have any other comments to make, anonymously or not, send them, or your phone number (for us to call) to studio@swendirect.com.

Live Broadcast begin at 7PM Eastern !

Don't forget that if you want to discuss a topic with us Live on the phone during our show, send us you number by e-mail. We will call you (if you're in the chatroom). As usual we'll do a couple of movie review just before we go into Star Wars mode (The Day After Tomorrow & Super Size Me) as well as playing one of Ithorian's parody SW songs.

Thanks for listening.

On this show, we'll play a game. We're in 2004, and your name is George Lucas. You've just finished hte script for a new three-part space opera, and you need to chose a cast of actors for your movies. What active actors/actresses could play the main and secondary characters (heroes and villains) in your upcoming movie trilogy? Take your pick. We're looking for the best cast possible, the worst cast ever, and/or the funniest and wildest cast imaginable. Submit your lists and the reasons, serious or not, why you chose those actors (mention a movie or TV show they appeared in as a reference). Send them, or your phone number (for us to call) to studio@swendirect.com.

Ron, eventually there will be a sequel trilogy show. The problem, well not really, is that we have more guests lined up for the english show than the French one, so we have more openings for subjects in French for the time being. Were waiting for some confirmation for a show, but if it doesn't happen, we will fill in with that subject.

Now for the next show. As mention by TBone just above, and what he told me by e-mail, this show should be very interesting. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif Don't miss it!

They never promote the archives, so no difference there. The live show on the other hand we like when it's promoted because that's our main event, more so than the archives.

Unfortunatly we still got a lot more people listening at the archives than participating Live. Turning the tide is very difficult. Most don't realize that it's more fun to interact than to passively listen to the show.

I'm actually the only one of the team posting here. Actually no, but Seb only posted 2 or 3 times since the audio board opened. He doesn't come here often, if at all. Raven and Kitfist0 don't come to the GS at all.

As for using the GS for SWD, well ... things (audio) are happening here. The audio board on the JC is a ghost town and the Official Board basically suck if you want to promote your stuff to the general public. Its all bumping or spamming for the moderators if there is no discussions.

Anyway. The best place for audio is here. period.

Its totally awsome and they want the fans support and interest for when they will propose this game/technology to Lucasfilm. I need to listen to it again, but it would also train you (in real life) to be more in control over you mind and body.

We're zipping it for peoples who have setup their PC to launch automatically their MP3 player. A left click would start loading in the player and listeners wouldn't be able to download it to their drive except by going back to the archives page, right clicking and save target as..

it was a good show (although i had to leave before it was over) it was fun having some new people in the chat. Myself.. not much into constuming but the 501st guys make it look fun.

The 501st are great people. Some of my friends are 501st members and I always envoy going to their Monthly off-duty diner/meeting. Its a lot of fun. I wish I could do some trooping with them, but I don't have the money to buy an armor and especially not the time.

She had to see the ring first style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif . And before she could answer I was dragged out the room by some fellow Garrison members, which was part of the deal. I agreed to be the one to propose to Amy Allen, looked less creepy coming from me, since I was only 17 at the time and an officla member of the 501st, and they would provide a way to get me out of there fast so I wouldn't be too embarrassed. WE have video of it, I tink some day it will be hosted on TKbearcrew.com.

i didnt know minors could be members of the 501st. Sounds like a fun time though.

Dany, those things are expehnsive and it seems a ton of work to get it to look just right and be able to move around and everything. I am just not into costuming enough to spend that kind of money and time.

Lunatic

Yes, that exactly what I think also but I've been around 501st a lot at local event and thoses guys have a lot of fun incognito... that must be something most fan wouldn't do normally. They escape reality. Theyre many way to live your fandom, costuming seem fun... but not my thing. Maybe someday. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif

Now, here what's coming up!

Yesterday (Sept.7th) marks SWD's one year anniversary of broadcasting in english. I would say that our first year has met our expectations with 27 shows and some interesting interviews for a total of 79 hours...ouch! Thanks for keeping count Nathan. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

So if you have comments about the first year of existance of our show, feel free to send them to our usual address (studio@swendirect.com), here on this thread or even better contact us during the show. It will be a pleasure to talk to you.

Star Wars en Direct #25 - Star Wars Miniatures (September 12th, 2004)
This show will be dedicated the the newly release miniatures game from Wizards of the Coast. We'll explain the basic rules of the game, show you most of the figures on the webcam and play a mini-demo game on the air while you watch the webcam. You have questions or comments on the new SW Miniatures? Send them, or your phone number (for us to call) to studio@swendirect.com.

As usual our hyperspace segment with ROTS updates & infos, our SW news, our movie reviews, our secondary subject, phone calls from fans and the community update. They're always surprises so stay tuned.

There's only one other show this month (26th). We don't have an main subject picked out yet, but we will have Jay Tompson the director of the "Heart of an Empire" documentary about the 501st. http://www.heartofanempire.com style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/trooper.gif

As a main subject... hmmm... We will most probably talk about the OT on DVD, and maybe Star Wars: Battlefront the show following that. Depend if we had time to play. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif

We'll see.

KitFist0 (Brian) showed us a couple of scene of ROTJ because he has as a complete copy of the DVD version (don't ask me how he got it) but I must say that the image quality and sound is incredible. Wow! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif

Sorry Grey, they fell into the junk mail folder. That's why we didn't see "new e-mail" in our MSN Messenger. Sorry.

And worst of all... in trying to delete some other junk, I flushed your 4 e-mails. Try sending them again (or a short version), and I'll put you on our safe list... so future e-mails go into the inbox.

Sorry style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

CGI Han also fires at the same time as Greedo now.

And I know where you got the copy of ROTJ, hehe. There are several people here who have it. You just need to ask around.

Something just dawned on me while reading an article.. this might be an interesting thing to put on the show.. i was reading this article that Intec is doing specialized star wars controllers for the x-box and ps2. They seem to have planned some really cool stuff for specialized sw games.. anyway.. at the end of the article this is said.

"Intec also promises to introduce "new videogame technologies" next year, set to be embedded in future Star Wars controllers and designed with specific Star Wars games in mind."

Are you guys thinking what i'm thinking? Is Intec working with Steven Barnes to make the awesome jedi game???
