We just learn that one of our most faithful listeners died a short while ago. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

Today a good friend and member of FF Sweden passed away very suddenly. He had just moved to study in the town where me and some other FF members live and study. He was staying at our CR's place until he would be able to get a room of his own. At lunchtime he just collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Enji (our CR) called me so that I could follow her and her brother to the hospital. We were there for quite some time, but the doctors couldn't do anything, his heart had simply stopped.

The relation between Lucasfilm Ltd. and the Fansites

On this show we will discuss a very delicate subject... How is the relation between LFL and the fansites?

Are the fansites better than the Official Site & Hyperspace? With all the RotS images that leaked on fansites lately do you think Lucasfilm is doing the right thing by upholding the law on fansites instead of working with them for the better good of the fandom? What should be done from both sides? We want to know what you think.

We will have many special guests to discuss those subjects, including T-Bone from StarWarz.com, Fatboy Roberts, Xoanon the webmaster of TheOneRing.net who will give us and insight on the relation with the LOTR franchise and the fansites. We also welcome any Lucasfilm officials who would like to give their opinion. Other guests/webmasters to be announced.

Update.. As of yesterday, The "Lucasfilm vs Fansites" show has been downloaded for 400MB by the Lucasfilm's servers. That's around 10 downloads. So they have listened to the comments that were made. Lets see if they take some of them into account for the future.

I also wanted to congraulate you on a wonderful show. I have been listening to you for months, truth be told, but haven't had the brain to come to the forums and say hello. If you're wondering, this is the same Jedi Master DJR as the one from Rebelbasers, my handle remains virtually the same everywhere I go. Anyway, I agreed with all of you on Labyrinth of Evil in the episode before last, that novel quicked some major butt. I always have fun reading a Star Wars book, but that took me back to the old days reading the Thrawn books when I was 10. Luceno has really come into his own as a Star Wars author, some of the bright talent Del Rey has cultivated over the last, what has it been about 6 years? Either way I'm rambling a little bit so yet again, cheers to your great show, and I hope you are able to continue to finance $$$ your show.

Hey guys, just downloaded and listened to your show for the first time tonight. I was intrigued by your latest topic, Lucasfilm vs. the fansites, particularly since I run my own fan site (http://www.aptirrelevance.com/sw-archive).

It was great to hear the various opinions of the relationship different sites have with Lucasfilm. Like everyone else, I've gotten my fair share of C&D emails regarding "unauthorized content" being posted. Being that my site is a rather large image archive, I find it very annoying when I get one of those emails asking me to take down content, but not providing any details. I guess I haven't been as lucky as some of the other sites, since I haven't managed to recieve any responses from Lucasfilm to my inquiries for further details.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that the show was great and it made me think about my own site in relation to the rest of the SW fanbase. That and Fatboy was great. He should be on again sometime.

I know what you mean. Its the same for the SWD crew. WE have to organize our lives/works around the show to make it happen regularly, when in reality, we should do the opposite. That's the down side of a live show.

What happened to JediTalk in 2002 might happen to SWD if one or more key members wouldn't be available to do a show anymore.

Nathan, Rich and Robbie do their show in their free time by recording it, so they have a more "normal" life... well as long as they have enough time to record everything. So in a way they are more secure shows if we consider hectic & unpredictable scheduling.

I was involved in a similar effort with another company, and the same kind of result happened. Corporate HQ got mad and stopped listening. I wonder if this sort of thing is ultimately the result of a conflict between accepted business practices and the relatively new phenomenon that is internet communities? Think about it. No place else in history has communication provided a means for a grassroots community of people to give instant feedback to a corporation, and vice versa. Quite honestly I don't think they know how to handle it. It's like this wierd relationship between a medieval king and his subjects. You can hoard the gold and tax them to death, or you can show them mercy and have their allegiance. Either way, the king wins. But with only one way do both sides win and the king's return on investment doubles. Or even triples.

I've found the best way to find time to listen to all the SWD episodes that aired before I started listening. I just download them from the archive and then put them on my mp3 player. This way I can listen to them on the bus and train on the way to and from college. Once I finish 1 episode I can easily erase it and put on a new one. BTW, Nathon is awesome! His thoughts almost always reflect mine. That Nathan's Rumblings was absolutely 1,000,000% on the mark. Shame on whoever over there decided that continuity wasn't important. Us fans shouldn't be left picking up the pieces of their mistakes. We should have been able to enjoy both LoE/RoF and tCWMS. Lucasfilm lost this round.

Yeah, we heard the party was LAME. I was given 4 tickets, but I just passed them on to my 1st set of friends that I met because Ron was sick and I was tired....so I'm glad we missed it. I did get my Vader Straw though.

Me too. But my girlfriend isn't a con goer at all nor a fan of Sci-fi, so going on a trip (non-related to work) for pleasure without her isn't well received, especially for Sci-fi. Since we see each other only the weekends (distance), I prefer being with her. When I get a new job near where she live, now I'll be considering it more even if it would still be expansive.

best 20 bucks I spent all weekend

I think the best Star Wars en Direct Memory I'll have of that week-end was to share the moments I did with the fans during the shows (and one particular (Amy incident) not while on a show).

I mean the Alston interview shared with Cinemafreak at the Fanforce party and the incredible contribution BlueMilk brought to both Stover's and Traviss's interview on sunday where amazing.

Now that I'm getting better and being able to ponder some more on it, the SWD shows were some of the most complicated yet most wonderful moments of the events.

I can't wait for the next show to come about even tough I know it will be hellish and chaotic. Because now it really represent a very nice, good, noble part of Fandom. No matter how low the show can sometimes go... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif

Same here. The goal is for the fan to listen live and participate. Sometimes I would like to stop archiving the show so that only the live listeners (the hardcore) would get to listen. But that wouldn't be fair for the vast majority of our listeners who cannot make it "en direct". style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

STAR WARS EN DIRECT TO BROADCAST WEEKLY

MAY 10th, 2005 - MONTREAL, CANADA - The web radio talk-show Star War en Direct will broadcast weekly beginning May 31th, 2005. The decision was made because the hosts had too much to cover on each show making them run overtime most of the time. The decision was made to have more shows but have them shorter in lenght (60-90 minutes).

The show will now be broadcast live each Tuesday from 7 to 8PM eastern for the summer season. SWD might also go overtime but will be kept under 90 minutes except for very special occasions. The move from Sunday to Tuesday was made to accomodate the producer's busy schedule.

This new format doesn't mean the end of weekend shows. From time to time, special edition shows will still be broadcast on location from conventions or off the Tuesday normal schedule.

Some small changes will be appearing in the show and on website this summer as we fine tune the new post-RotS format of SWD.

Its been brewing for a while now. But the main reasons are...

-Want to free my weekend to have more time with my girlfriend. ie. I don't see her on the weekends that we have a show = bad. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boxed.gif
-Long show are exhausting, especially when doing both language show on the same day (6 hours). Since I get up at 5AM to go to work, I don't have much sleep after a late sundays show. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sleeping.gif
-Positive e-mails from fans, especially after C3 style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif
-As a big fan of JediTalk, I've alway wanted to have a weekly show from the start, but Seb and Brian were not that inclined to that back then. And even me with my other website, which I'll be retiring from in a couple of days (May 19th), I was not so sure.

Why now? The only difference between the before and after RotS shows, are some main subjects about the RotS products and the "Hyperspace" segment, which has officially aired for the last time on SWD#36. We didn't really talked that much about EP3 except for those occasions. There will be other news and stories to cover until the TV shows begins... or until I move out of the city to live with my girlfriend. Then Seb and Brian should be continuing the show without me.

There's not a lot of difference in time coverage. In a month, 4x1.5 hours or 2x3 hours is pretty much the same length. So its just spread out so we can adjust more easily to whats happening in SW news and events.

The Revenge of the Sith Soundtrack
On this show we will listen to the newly released RotS soundtrack by John Williams and discuss its content including the extra DVD. What did you think of that music score and the DVD? What are you favorites pieces? etc. WARNING: RotS spoilers will be discussed during the show.

Yes, its probably the audio quality. I'll ask them for sure. But I remember that the sound quality of JT was worst than SWD. Our show is recorded on the fly and not normalized and it still sounds better than Jeditalk.
