PART 1, BOOK 1, VOLUME 1
The first new of an enormous amount of just a few.

Waves, welcomes, whassups, and salutations. I am the one named Tovor. In Borg terms I would be Tovor One of One, although I am not a Trekkie but a Star Wars fan(atic). On the net I am Tovor, and in here Tovor I shall be. I also use the name Master of Tales, although my novels and stories have yet to see to be seen by the world (Maybe I should be Wannabee Apprentice of Tales but I’ll go by Master thank you very much.) In the past few years in the former Jedinet forum I had written 4 individual surveys for everyone to answer; in part for each of us to learn more about the others, and mostly just to have fun reading and answering them. *As a result of the merger between the two great forums to create a new and improved even greater one, Zachaa had suggested that I create another survey as a means for each of the two forum’s members to meet the others and learn about each other. *And so I comprised the following survey picking a few old questions from the four previous surveys, with new questions added.

Welcome to the new combined forum, and welcome to my survey. *You are welcome to read it, welcome to answer it, and welcome to peruse the responses of the others. No need to thank me, but you’re welcome anyway. =) *I hope you enjoy this, but mostly I just hope you didn’t think it sucked (how was my Dana Carvey impression? You didn’t hear it? Well, you weren’t listening hard enough).
Here goes...cut and paste the questions to your reply window and follow with your answers:

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

8-What is it about SW and sci-fi and fantasy that appeals to you most? What do you look for in yourself as you enjoy sci-fi and fantasy media? For example, is it the battles and duels that you enjoy, the off-Earth environments and architecture; the aliens and robots; the feelings of fascination and emotion from the showing of stories and environments completely different from our own understood and expected experiences…?

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscribed on your tombstone?

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

18-Finally, journey back with me to Dagobah. Yoda told Luke, “Your weapons, you will not need them.” Luke asked, “What’s in there?”, to which Yoda replied, “Only what you take with you.” What did Yoda want Luke to take with him; and what meaning does Luke’s lesson hold for the rest of us?

Yes, I'm still up for some reason.

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?

I'm 35, a girl, Illinois USA, and I speak a little French and the International Language (aka LOVE).

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?

I went to University of Iowa and majored in Electrical Engineering.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?

I am an electrical engineer, working for a big construction equipment manufacturer, and currently I am responsible for all electronics/electrical components that reside on medium size track-type tractors (bulldozers) built by my company in Grenoble France.

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?

I'm married and my husband teases me ruthlessly for my Star Wars addiction, but he also feeds it by buying me books and figures all the time.

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

I have 3 daughters (pity me), ages 11, 9, and 4. *My 9-year-old is my Padawan, and my 4-year-old is being converted. *The oldest just thinks I'm nuts.

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

I became a fan in 1977 when I first saw ANH in the theater at the age of 11. *Right away I came home and began imagining I was Princess Leia in the backyard.

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

I like LOTR... books and movies, X-Files, Star Trek: Next Generation, and most of the Star Trek movies, though not as much as Star Wars. *Not real big on fantasy... more into the high-tech sci-fi. *I also write sci fi and Star Wars fanfic of my own.

I like the futuristic technology, space travel, and invented worlds and beings. *It must have a great story and intriguing characters who are lovable or I can relate to. *If there is a moral lesson, even better. *I enjoy seeing the struggle between good and evil played out. *I don't normally like fight scenes any better than other parts of a film, but I make and exception when it comes to lightsaber duels... those parts are my favorites in Star Wars movies.

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

I don't collect, but people buy me stuff as gifts often. *As I mentioned, I write sci-fi and love good movies in general. *I also like outdoor activities.

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

I started posting in forums a year and a half ago, when I finally got a home computer. *I work on one most of the day, so I waited to purchase one until recently when my kids started needing a computer for homework assignments. *I wrote a "my version of Episode 3" story on my work computer (sparked by seeing TPM), so I got brave and decided to try to share it with other fans to see what they thought. *I ran across JediNet by accident when searching for Star Wars sites. *I saw a fanfic by a guy named Joruus and decided to e-mail him and ask if he'd read mine. *He read some and gave pointers, so I started sticking around JediNet. *Eventually I started writing with him and others on an RPG that's lasted a year now. *Through that I've made on-line friends from JediNet, so I've stayed.

I don't really visit any other sites right now except TOS. *I don't have tons of time to be online, so I have to limit where I visit. *My primary goal for being on this board is to write with others, though I do a little Obi-Wan obsessing too...lol. *I also try to give others support and encouragement. *I sometimes express my faith there, but try to do so on appropriate threads for such discussions.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

Heroes: My grandfather, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Indiana Jones
Role models: JC, a friend named Jean, my daughter Chloe

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

TV? *I don't watch much any more... probably Dana Scully in both appearance and actions, except I've moved from being more science-minded to spiritual in recent years.

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?

Singing in public.

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?

I want to be remebered as a person of honesty and integrity who shared a great deal of myself with others, someone my friends knew as always there when they needed me most. *

Tombstone Message: In the Light

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

My love.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

Finding Balance.

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

God - there's so much I want to ask Him!

George Lucas - because I've always wanted to create stories like he does.

My husband - so I could figure him out!

Yoda wanted Luke to take his courage and not give into his fear. *Because he fell victim to his fear, he reacted negatively to it and saw himself become his father, down the path of darkness. *He didn't trust in the Force.

For me, I twist it into a religious context: God wants us to trust Him and give up our lives and ties to this world for Him. *When we don't, we fall victim to the evil in this world, and become like those who refuse to follow Him.

Excuse the preaching, but you asked! *:sigh:

Interesting questions, Tov!

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?

Age-17
Where am I?- Australia
Languages?- Little bit of French. Little bit of Japanese. Universal. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif And am currently creating a unique version of Dathomiri.

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?

I'm currently doing my final year of high school. I major in several subjects; English Lit, Drama, Information Technology Systems, and Media.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?

Aiming to be a journalist and an author. Might even get to interview someone from Star Wars one day!!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?

My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 months. As for him liking Star Wars; well... once I tell him the address, he'll be joining us!!!

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

No kids (come on, I'm only 17!!! And I'm not that kind of teenaged girl!!!). Whether or not, when I have kids, they like Star Wars will be up to them.

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

This year is my forth year of being a fan. I became one not long after the special editions, when I heard about the making of Episode 1, I went to the school library and borrowed A New Hope. I got hooked on the very first word.

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

I'm currently learning up about Doctor Who (pity its not on tv anymore). I love Roswell, and I love The Pretender. The early Star Trek movies (the ones with Kirk and Spock) are great, as is Enterprise. In books I like The Unicorn Queen series despite the fact I only have two, and they are extraordinaraly hard to get. Besides from that, a few other things here and there.

Mmm. Tough one. I think its because Sci-Fi/ Fantasy allows me to use my imagination. It takes me away from everything thats part of the real world. There's no little part I like or don't like. I relate myself to everybody, bad or good, because we all share those characteristics. The only time I ever truelly link myself to a character, is when I write my own novels.

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

I definatly write Sci-Fi/Fantasy, I can tell you that. I've tried drawing it, but I gave that up for a lost cause.

I like fooling on the net, reading, collecting Star Wars bits and peices, being with family, watching movies, and learning about absolutly everything! I also write the occasional artical for the local paper.

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

My very first post took place in December 1998 on the Galactic Senate. I enjoy the boards because it allows me to interact with people from around the world who are interested in the same thing as me; Star Wars. Since joining, my writing skills have improved, I am now a faster typer, and I think I've matured a lot. I hope that others can enjoy the fan fics I take part in, and maybe I can even teach them something they didn't know about something.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

My parent, definatly. I never had a particular hero, because I looked up to everyone.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

I look a hell of a lot like Princess Leia. Personality wise... I'm a combernation of Mr Bean and Jarod (the Pretender).

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?

I have absolutly no idea. I guess I don't like change, but fasinated by what might happen. I'm also terrified of myself, but you won't believe what I can do. And, of course, there's the dreaded report card...

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?

I hope to be remembered as someone who was very good at writing books!!! As for whats on my tombstone... I don't really know. Maybe something Shakespearian, because I like Shakespeare.

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

An open way of viewing the world.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

Climbing the Mountain of Life

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

Shakespeare- He is a great writer, and has a very open minded view of the world.

A Force user - I think you know why *

I can't make up my mind on the third, so lets leave it open.

Yoda meant just what he said, only what he takes with him, be it physical or mental. Luke took weapons, yes, but also a burning hatred for Vader.

Lukes lesson showed that there is only one person who is truelly our enemy... ourself.

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?
I'm 22, female, and live in Norway. I speak Norwegian and German in addition to English.

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?
I'm in college, studying computers.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?
I'd like to be a network administrator when I finish school.

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?
Duh, I met my boyfriend at the Galactic Senate. I think he's more obsessed with Star Wars than I am.

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?
No kids yet. I'd like to be on the same continent as my boyfriend before having children.

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?
I was 12, I think, when I for the first time saw Star Wars on TV. I was hooked from my first image of 3PO.

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?
I'm fond of Terry Pratchett, D&D and Tolkien. I can easily be called a Tolkien addict.

I think it's because it's different from the mundane experience of my own life. It's exciting, it's different, it's a release from the stress and worry of my normal life.

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?
I play D&D when I get a chance, and I roleplay a lot online. I also devour fantasy novels, and like to collect books and pictures.

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?
I've been posting on Star Wars boards since 1997. I frequent boards for the companionship of the people on the boards. I love to be able to talk to people about shared interests, and develop friendships.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?
I don't think I had one.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?
I don't think I resemble anyone on TV, in films, or in books.

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?
I can't think of anything.

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?
I'd like to be remembered for being kind, nice and helpful. I can't think of any special message I'd want to have on my tombstone.

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?
My niceness.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?
"Diary of an elf-lover"

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?
Well, two would be my favorite DMs, because they're so damn ingenious and imaginative. The third would be a German friend of mine, because of his ability to shrug off a sucky life that would drive me crazy.

I think Yoda wanted Luke to take with him some calmness, some serenity. I think he wanted Luke not to rely on weapons all the time. If we come in expecting a fight, we may get one, as opposed to when we don't. Does that make sense?

Married coming up on 7 years. My husband tolerates my geekness and often incurages it.

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

I have three beautiful English Springer Spaniels. They are my children.

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

1976 - A New Hope

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

I do watch some Trek. Know most of the original series and the next generation and Deep Space 9. Absolutely love Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Tolkien, Dragon Lance

I think it appeals to me because I envision myself in that world. What ever world it may be. It takes me out of my existance here. I can throw myself totally into that reality and escape real life for a little while.

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

I am a competetive Archer. That, unfortunately, takes up most of my free time. The rest is spent working or on the boards. I don't collect memorablilia, and I can't write or draw to save my life.

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

I first posted on Jedinet in May of 1999 hmmm....what did that coincide with? I frequent the boards because here I feel normal. I get stange looks from my friends when I say things like, "I saw TPM 20 times." Here I'm a lightweight. I get enjoyment and entertainment. I hope I give the same.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

I don't think I had any. Although, I like to fancy Leia was a role model.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

Sense of humor

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

The secret life of a SW Geek

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

I'll have to think about that one for a while.

I always figured it was like the emotional baggage we each carry. In there you face your worst fear or your painful experience that you're carrying around with you. You confront it and try to grow from the confrontation.

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?

I'm 18, male, and I live in Iowa. I speak some bad spanish. Mostly I can order beer (strange, considering that I don't drink...) and ask where the bathroom is, which would come in handy after ordering the beer... :o)

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?

I graduate from high school in just over a week. I'm going to Community College in Ankeny next year, where I plan on getting enough credits to transfer to a four-year, like Iowa State to study computers.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?

Right now, I make "Student Minimum Wage" (a flat $5.00) at a small grocery store here, so I'm looking to move up. I want to work with computers, but I'm really not entirely sure what I want to do with myself...

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?

Not really... The girl I'm dating is going to EP 2 with me, but I wouldnt call it a serious relationship...

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

Not at the moment... When I do have kids, I'd hope that they'd like SW, but it's really up to them.

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

As long as I can remember really... I grew up on Star Wars. I remember watching it off of a really bad tape that my 'rents had coppied off of USA. I can quote entire commercials from that tape verbatum... :o)

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

Well, obviously I'm a Red Dwarf fan, and I've watched some Trek in my day. I also am a big follower of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the spinoff Angel.

8-What is it about SW and sci-fi and fantasy that appeals to you most? What do you look for in yourself as you enjoy sci-fi and fantasy media? For example, is it the battles and duels that you enjoy, the off-Earth environments and architecture; the aliens and robots; the feelings of fascination and emotion from the showing of stories and environments completely different from our own understood and expected experiences??

I like a good story. The setting isnt neccesarily important to me, but I usually find myself reading/watching sci-fi. Really couldnt tell you why...

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

I write sometimes. Mostly SW fanfic, but I'm not nearly as active lately (As Cat could tell you...) I also play computer games alot and read. And I bike and play roller hockey to get some exercise in... :o)

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

Geez, I actually don't remember exactly when I started posting... Prolly towards the end of 8th grade, which would be '98. I don't post nearly as much as I used to, but I still do somethings. Mostly delete the occasional doublepost and write a little in the RPGs.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

I don't really remember who I looked upto when I was younger.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

I'm alot like most of your basic geeky characters... A little Daria, particularly in my sarcasticness, and some Xander from BTVS.

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?

Dating. I didnt really start dating until recently, and it's new and scary, but fun and exciting at the same time.

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?

I really don't know how I'd be remembered. Prolly as a quiet kinda guy. On my tombstone I'd probably have some smartass comment, like "I told you I was sick!" or something along those lines.

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

My love of reading. If more people would read, I'm sure the world would be a better place...

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

Hmm... I dunno...

17-If you could figuratively "consume" or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

I really don't know...

18-Finally, journey back with me to Dagobah. Yoda told Luke, "Your weapons, you will not need them." Luke asked, "What's in there?", to which Yoda replied, "Only what you take with you." What did Yoda want Luke to take with him; and what meaning does Luke's lesson hold for the rest of us?

I think Yoda probably wanted Luke to take only the force with him, and the lesson was that we can't always directly fight our problems, and when we try, we end up either hurting ourselves, or becoming the very thing we tried to stop. There's examples of that all through history.

Yoda wanted Luke to come as himself, without protection or things to fall back on. Luke should have faced the cave on his own terms, relying on himself and his faith in the Force to guide him. Yoda's lesson means it's up to us to find our path. We can't rely on the guidance of others or the help of others to face some of our problems. Our outlook on life depends upon on our take on things, and it's up to us to make the proper strides to become the best we can be.

1) How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?

I'm 35, male, and proud citizen of the Republic of Texas. I'm learning to speak the language of my adopted land.

2) Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?

I'm kind of in school; I've spent the last 14 months majoring in the art and science of living life on life's terms.

3) What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?

I'm an aspiring songwriter and guitarist, with four albums written, but not yet recorded. My goal is to get my music recorded and out on the radio, where I'll be able to spend all kinds of time posting up a storm on these boards in between my backsatge encounters with red-headed female groupies. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

4) Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?

Not married, no relationship to speak of.

5) Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

No children . . . whether they choose to follow the path to coolness will be up to them.

6) How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

I've been a fan since May 25th, 1977. * * * * * * * * * *

7) What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

Lord of the Rings, STII: The Wrath of Khan, *Stephen King's Dark Tower series, Superman I & II, Men In Black, The Terminator movies.
* * * * * * * * *
8) What is it about SW and sci-fi and fantasy that appeals to you most? What do you look for in yourself as you enjoy sci-fi and fantasy media? For example, is it the battles and duels that you enjoy, the off-Earth environments and architecture; the aliens and robots; the feelings of fascination and emotion from the showing of stories and environments completely different from our own understood and expected experiences…?

I like being able to explore different worlds and meet different people . . . people that still have something in common with us. Although they may live in an advanced civilization like we see in SW, or even if they live in a simpler, less spoiled world (such as Middle Earth) they still have to face the same problems we face.
* * * * * * * * * *
9) What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

My hobbies are music, both listening to great performers like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and writing material of my own. I have a small collection of Star Wars items.
* * * * * * * * * *
10) How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

I joined Jedinet back in December of 1999. I frequent the boards because it's a good way to meet fellow fanbo . . . *cough, cough* I mean, fellow enthusiasts and trade ideas and insights. As far as what I have to give to them *. . . *not really much. just my own point of view.

11)Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

Darth Vader, General George S. Patton, Winston Churchill. They're still my role models.
* * * * * * * * * *
12) What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

I've been told that I look like a middle-aged version of Harry Potter. On the other hand, I've also been told that I look like a younger version of Stephen King.

13) Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?

Women. * * * * * * * * * *

14) At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?

Hmmmmmm . . . *I'd like to be remembered for trying to be considerate and helpful.
For my tombstone, I'm debating between "I tried" or maybe, "Sh!t Happened."

15) If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

My music.
* * * * * * * * * *
16) If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

There and Back Again.

17) If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

God. Then I wouldn't have to bother with a second or third choice.

18) Finally, journey back with me to Dagobah. Yoda told Luke, “Your weapons, you will not need them.” Luke asked, “What’s in there?”, to which Yoda replied, “Only what you take with you.” What did Yoda want Luke to take with him; and what meaning does Luke’s lesson hold for the rest of us?

I think Yoda only wanted Luke to go into the cave with a willingness to learn. By going into the cave expecting something bad to happen, Luke played into the fear and anger of the Dark Side. As far as what meaning we can draw from it . . . well, how many times have our preconceptions of a situation turned out to be true because we acted on them?

I love being in my own little world. *I spend most of my time there. *Having a base universe to spend it in helps.

What do you look for in yourself as you enjoy sci-fi and fantasy media?
Well, Star Wars has helped me spiritually. *I’m not hard-core and think I’m a Jedi or believe in the Force, but it does offer some very cool viewpoints, some of which I share. *I also look to see if I can be a hero… and I doubt I can but it doesn’t hurt to try to take on some heroic attributes.

For example, is it the battles and duels that you enjoy, the off-Earth environments and architecture; the aliens and robots; the feelings of fascination and emotion from the showing of stories and environments completely different from our own understood and expected experiences…?
Any one of those. *Depends on my mood. *It’s definitely spurred by my fascination with the stars and my longing to be among them. *The astronomical stars, I mean, not Hollywood stars. *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?
Well… I collect action figures but I open them so I can play with them and wear them. *I read, I write, I post on boards… and oh yeah… homework takes up a lot of my time… BLAH

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?
Right around three years with JediNet now. *It was my first “home” on the internet. *I frequent the boards because, well, I like the people. *I like discussing Star Wars, among other things, I like to talk to people from other cultures and other places of the world. *I wish to share ideas… not necessarily make people believe them, but share the understanding of them.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?
Oh man… the Ninja Turtles!!!! *Hehe ok, maybe not role models, but definitely childhood heroes. *My cousin, Anthony. *I admired him a lot for reasons I am beginning to forget… they are obscured by his last years and how the end came. *But I do remember respecting him a lot as a kid. *He was the ultimate cool person that everybody loved, and for once, that kind of person paid attention to me and played with me and never ceased to astound me with his daredevil stunts and ideas. *He taught me a lot, both by model… and by what became of him.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?
I remember this question from before, and I also remember that I couldn’t really answer it, and I’m afraid that’s going to have to be my answer this time, too. *I guess, the closest I can come is a much toned-down version of Phoebe from Friends… I’m blonde and random, but usually I don’t believe the stupid things I say, I just say them to say them.

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?
Oh my… dreadfully fear… that’s an interesting combination. *Learning, I suppose. *I mean, who wants to do homework? *And homework is definitely NOT relaxing, and I do NOT dearly love it. *But in the end, when I get a good grade on a test, or I do a problem by myself I thought I couldn’t do, it’s a great reward. *And when I fail, it is the deepest discouragement. *I’m fearful that I don’t know if I can make it in my chosen major. *But I would love the end result.

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?
Oooooh, morbid!! *I want people to remember me as a nice person, not as someone everyone else talked about behind their backs. *I want them to remember that I loved them, and I would wish that they would love me. *As far as an actual inscription, I don’t really want to think about it.

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?
The ability to accept other cultures/religions. *Holy wars and culture differences cause much pain in this world, and we’d be a lot better off if we could just accept each other and not try to force our unwanted ideas upon others.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?
The Weirdo

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?
Anakin Skywalker. *And not just to get EP II or III spoilers!!! *The Dark Side exists in all of us, and this was a man who went from one extreme to the other and back again. *I’m sure we can all learn a lot from what he went through.

Second, Paul McCartney, the famous person I admire and love the most. *He seems to be a very loving, down-to-Earth man, and hopefully has a very full life ahead of him at what, 59? *How does he get through being famous? *I mean, The Beatles are pretty much as famous as you can get. *Not that I plan on being famous, Paul *must have a good hold on his values to come out as cool-headed and wonderful as he is now.

Third, someone like Hitler. *Someone so different from me, with what I would call “bad” beliefs. *What do these people really believe? *How can we avoid creating others like them? *Is it a society problem? *Family? *Genetic? *I want to know exactly what goes through people’s minds when they feel they can kill people. *Maybe then I can better understand why they think that way and come to terms with it and hopefully find a way to prevent such things from happeing.

Ah, yes. *Luke took his weapons. *He was looking for trouble, looking for violence. *If you take something in with you, you will find it. *If you’re looking for ways in which Star Wars is racist, YOU WILL FIND THEM… but they will be exaggerated. *Having a closed mind obscures the truth. *Although it is not possible to be completely open minded, the more aware we are of our prejudices, the less likely we are to fall into them.

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?

I'm a 20 year old guy. (oops...I almost said 18. I wish style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif ) I live in Texas, in the US obviously. I speak fluent American, some true English, and a little French. Very little French, actually. It's been a while since I spoke any.

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?

I'm out of high school, and trying to get started on getting in a college. When I get in, I plan on majoring in Computer Science.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?

I currently work as a mechanic in a bowling alley, but I plan on doing something computer related, like developing video games. (as opposed to being a game tester, which doesn't pay much.)

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?

I'm in a serious long distance relationship, and planning on making it not so long distance soon. (Finally my first, and hopefully it'll last.) She tolerates it, since I don't bring it up much, but I'm bringing her into it. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

I don't have any. Maybe not for a long time, but I'm sure they will love it if I have any.

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

I've been a fan for about eight years.

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

Jurassic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton. The films are nothing compared to the novels. Not even close, except JP, which was heavily modified in itself.

I love space, the battles, and duels. It's an environment I can escape into. It maybe just as harsh, but it's much more interesting.

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

I'm working on a Star Wars fanfic, and a Jurassic Park fanfic. Neither is anywhere near complete.

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

I haven't been around long. I just wanted to meet a few Star Wars nuts like myself. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

Hulk Hogan, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and G. I. Joe, believe it or not. lol

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

Appearance of others I resemble not. Cyrano de Bergerac maybe style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif As for actions, I can't say I act like anyone.

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?

Warfare. Military history. I fear warfare, but I find it interesting to study. It really helps when writing about the Empire, though. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?

I don't expect to do anything great enough to be remembered by. I really don't care about what my tombstone says as long as it's something nice.

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

Understanding.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

Finding The Way

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

Noone. All that matters is that I understand myself before I try to understand another. However, I am pretty understanding.

Yoda wanted him to learn about the Dark Side, and it's seductive power. No matter how good we are, there is still potential to "access the Dark Side", which we must always be weary of. The Dark side is not stronger, but it is the easier to use and the more seductive.

Okey-Dooku, I'll finally give this my best shot, but I must admit it's kinda difficult to do when in the back of my mind I'm hearing Jean Stapleton as Edith Bunker singing "Getting to KNOW-W-W-W YOU-U-U-U...Getting to KNOW all ABOU-OU-OUT YOU-U-U-U-U..."

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?

I'm a 30 year-old MANLY MAN, living here in Portland (aka Ripoff City) in the People's Republic of Oregon. *As an American, I naturally speak English, and I'm pretty good with German (still ironing out a bunch of wrinkles there), plus I'm starting to learn Norwegian, for some reason.

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?

Like the current Miss America, incidentally, I'm a senior at Portland State University, and my current major is German. *I got a piddly little A.A. degree in Communications from Casper (WY) College in 1996, and in a former life I was a Greek and Latin major at The Catholic University of America.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?

My only career goal is to strive to raise the best damn family possible. *Nothing else really interests me all that much, if mostly because careers and such seem to matter little to people at the hour of their death. *So money, to me, is merely a means of achieving this overall goal, and right now, I'm at a loss to say how that's to be accomplished.

Not that I'm worried; my father didn't begin his teaching career until he was 41.

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?

Oh, Luth and I are serious alright. *Unfortunately, we're also seriously distanced from one another, which seriously restricts our ability to really advance this relationship. *Although Star Wars is what brought us together (LONG LIVE THE T'BONE), I guess I'm about 50% more a fanatic than she is, at least according to her. *Most of that is because of timing...I was lucky enough to be born soon enough to see SW come out in 1977 when I was five, and so naturally, the whole saga thing had an immense bearing on how I grew up. *(Assuming I ever DID grow up.)

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?

No children yet, though I intend to raise at least a few, God willing. *However, if they regard me like I regarded my old man, the last thing I want to do is shove SW down their throats. *Knowing me growing up, they'd probably take it as some sort of imperative which they'll feel the need to resist at every turn. *Nor do I need that kind of aggravation...especially after seeing what it did to my old man's nerves.

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?

As I had already mentioned, I was a fan right from the start in 1977. *My poor father couldn't calm me down enough every time Darth Vader came strolling aboard the Tantive IV for the first time.

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?

I like to think that for kids my age, the SW saga was perfectly placed in that we could enjoy it while we were still kids. *I say that because I doubt we could've enjoyed it nearly as much had the cynicism of teenage-ism begun to rear its ugly head. *Suddenly, you find yourself not satisfied with mere epic heroism, you now have to question every stupid thing around you, thus shifting your preference from the epic to the philosophical. *As if on cue, waiting to pounce on that intellectual shift was Star trek TNG. *That show helped carry us through those murky, hormone-drenched years until we had come out of that fog just in time to re-discover Star Wars again in the form of the EU, then multiple subsequent re-releases of the OT on VHS, then the SE Trilogy, and now the prequels.

So yeah, in short, I got into TNG, the Zahn Trilogy, and I'm liking how the LOTR movies are shaping up. *(Even though I STILL can't seem to handle the actual books. *Grrrr.)

Basically, what attracts me to the whole SW saga is what was once described as "The Father Thing." *I still laugh to think of Michael Dorn playing Worf on TNG having to say "I...am your father" to Alexander, and to do it with a straight face. *I could NEVER do that. *I've been trying for years to say that line without at least smirking, all to no avail.

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?

I used to be a DIE-HARD Denver Broncos fan, but that feeling has tempered somewhat since John Elway retired and I moved into a Seahawks TV market. *Since then, it just hasn't been the same. *I see tributes to some their best players from the 80's (Karl Mecklenburg, Simon Fletcher, Sammy Winder, Gary Kubiak, Steve A****er, among others) and I well up inside, thinking Damn, man, those were MY GUYS!!! *Anymore, unfortunately, I can't identify with many of the current players the same way.

Of course, I STILL intend on naming my first-born son (God willing) after Billy Bryan, my all-time favorite Bronco.

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?

I started out in the REAL Galactic Senate late in 1999, right about the time I got my first computer. *I hang around because in the almost three years I've been living here in Portland, I still don't know many people beyond my own family. *All my friends are still back in Casper. *As for what I get out of it, I merely point to the friend-for-life that I HAVE gotten out of it as justification for why I do this.

What do I hope to give to others? *Well, I'm relieved that STD's aren't an option...

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?

Darth Vader, Grover, Hulk Hogan, Zoot, and the General Lee.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?

None, really, although the way I dress up in a dark shirt, black pants, and a black hooded sweatshirt suggests I'm trying to look like SOMEONE, doesn't it?

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?

Driving. *I fear it because nobody else in Portland seems to know how to drive. *They mustn't, or there wouldn't be all these condescending "Drive carefully" warnings on the radio whenever it rains. *I mean, if you can't handle rainy driving in a place like Portland, just give it up and take the bus.

However, when the road's clear (usually around 4 am) and a good song's on the radio, there's nothing like the feeling I get in such situations.

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?

I would hope to be remembered for having an unflagging sense of humor, even in the darkest of times. *I'm still mulling the epitaph thingie....maybe a Broncos-themed "Thanks John" or some smart-assed "Wait...did I leave my lights on?"

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?

Again, I'd have to say the sense of humor thing. *Life's too damn short sometimes.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?

I'm thinking of a Steven Wright line right now:

"Today I was...no, wait, that wasn't me."

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?

I'm assuming the hypothetical "Alive or Dead" thing is in play here, so...

King Haakon VII of Norway...for greater insight into the resistance against the Nazi occupation from 1940-1945.

Vin Scully...for a reminder of old-school broadcasting principles that seem to have long-since been forgotten by the current crop of announcers.

Peter Schickele (of PDQ Bach fame)...just to find out whatever in the world happened to John Ferrante.

I think I'll agree with the preconceived notions theory, in that before setting foot inside the cave, Luke has already decided that whatever's in there meant to attack him. *Although, it's hard to imagine what the Dark Side would've thrown at Luke had he gone in unarmed.

1-How old are you; are you male or female; and what state or nation are you in? Do you speak any languages other than English?
30 this coming Saturday. No other languages.

2-Are you in school or college; what is or what was your major?
No college.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?
Pinspotter mechanic.

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?
Married a little over two years now. She tolerates my love for Star Wars.

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?
No children. If and when I do have them, at least one of them will share my love for Star Wars. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?
Since 1977.

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?
Used to enjoy Star Trek. I get into the occasional Alien Trilogy/Resurrection kick. Some anime, I love those Weber/White novels based on the r.p.g. Starfire.

Its the ultimate fantasy-trip. My childhood was horrible, and Star Wars was one way to escape the reality of my childhood. I pretty much like everything about Star Wars.

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?
I used to collect toys from Star Wars, Alien Trilogy, Robotech, etc., as well as Star Wars CCG. I stopped right around the time the Jabba's Palace Expansion came out, due to an incessant lack of funds. I wonder how much that white-border Darth Vader is going for now? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?
Um, today? As for getting something out of it, I guess just the sharing of a common interest that non-Star Wars Fans just can't comprehend. Hopefully, I'll be able to share my own views and such.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?
Luke Skywalker.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?
I guess I'd resemble Mark Hamill if I grew a little more hair. My personality closely matches Lukes' in a lot of ways. I guess I look a little like Michael Biehn also. I'm definitely a little short for a stormtrooper.

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?
Socializing with people.

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscibed on your tombstone?
I want to be remembered for being tolerant, caring, and honest. That will probably happen anyway.
On my tombstone : Boring conversation anyway.

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?
My patience.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?
"Another trip through the grist mill."

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?
Thats disturbing to me. I think my own knowledge, attitudes and insights are enough for me to handle.

Hm. The biggest problems Luke had were his recklessness and his disbelief in himself. I think Yoda was hoping that Luke would shed his disbelief and feel confident enough to go in with faith in himself, and overcome his recklessness by using the Force as his ally. When battling whatever Luke battled inside the cave (my interpretation : the Dark Side), he acted on instinct, on the moment, on the Dark Side, not depending on the basic teachings of the Light Side, as Yoda was instructing him on. He feared what he saw, he reacted, and the result was "destroying" himself. Anger, fear, aggression, all the Dark Side. At any rate, the lesson was learned, although I feel that Yoda was hoping for a better outcome, a better decision made by Luke. Luke failed the cave test, but I think Luke got more out of that lesson than he would have by chosing the right path.

You sure don't ask for much, do you, Tovor? Is this info going to be sent to some government agency and used against us at some point in the future?

Anyhoo...

1. Age: 37 Gender: Female. *Where I live: Cleveland, Ohio, USA. *I speak two languages: English, and bad English.

2. Not in school.

3.I'd like to do something art-related and have this idea of refinishing old furniture with artsy designs....but that takes money that I just don't have. *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

4. Not married, no significant other.

5. No kids, either! I have friends who say I'm the smartest person they know for avoiding marriage and children!

6. I was a SW fan from the time I first saw it in 1977. I liked Darth Vader right away, more than all the other characters.

7. I like Red Dwarf, Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; I like reading the Conan novels, but only the original ones by Robert E. Howard; the Dragonriders of Pern series; Lord of the Rings.

8. What I like best about sci-fi/fantasy is being able to visualize myself in the strange environments and situations that are so different from reality.

9. Hobbies: I collect SW stuff, but I'm limiting my collection to Vader items, since I don't have the space or money to buy every cool thing on the market. Also collect coffee mugs with cats on them--I have over 40 hanging on my kitchen wall. I draw my own fantasy characters occasionally and write stories about them, but I don't think they're good enough to publish.

10. The first SW forum I ever posted at was www.Nightly.net, where I still go all the time. I only recently discovered the Galactic Senate while browsing thru T'bone's site, which I hadn't been to in awhile. I like being able to share my thoughts and ideas with people who have similar tastes in entertainment. I also like meeting new people online, and got to meet several of them at the Celebration, which was very cool!

11. Childhood heroes....hmmm, don't recall that I really had any.

12. Can't say that I resemble any TV/movie characters. I am my own person!

13. Not sure if I can love something that I fear. I do have an unsettling fear of deep water, yet I think oceanography would be a fascinating field of study. Does that count?

14. *I want to be known for my sense of humor and the fact that I did my best to get along with people, even the ones who annoy me. *On my tombstone: "See? I told you I was sick!"

15.If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be? *I dunno, I'm a pretty ordinary person. Don't have looks, brains, or a lot of talent, so what's left?

16. Nobody would ever make a movie about my life. I tried keeping a diary and got bored with it!

17. Stephen Hawking: an extremely intelligent person whom I admire for his strength in the face of his debilitating disease. Here's a man who continues with his scientific research in spite of physical limitations that leave him unable to move. Can't think of any others right now.

18. I always thought the cave incident on Dagobah was a bad head trip. Lay off the funny mushrooms, Luke.

Back in 2 different colleges I had majored in first television broadcasting and creative writing; and then fashion and glamour photography.

3-What is your career, and/or eventual goal for it?
I am the manager of a photo lab in a busy drugstore chain. I am also a photographer, and I used to shoot model portfolios and a few weddings and Bar Mitzvahs. *My childhood talent, dream, and expectation had been that as an adult I would complete and publish my books and write movies to share my imagination and fantasies with the rest of the world. *Since I was seven years old I have spent my life harboring and developing a sci-fi/war/adventure series of ten to seventeen books (of which I have now whittled down to a tight nine books with the possibility for three more sequels), which I had given up on doing anything with several years ago. *But now I have been working on that series again and I believe it has a beyond-good chance of being a worthy epic. *I also spent a lot of time a couple years ago and last year developing a 2-book Star Wars series set 300 years after ROTJ (I have a 70 page outline and summary for the first one and a brief outline for the second). *Right now I am extremely bummed out because I realized through spoilers that one of the AOTC plot lines is very similar to one in my own story; and also that after AOTC my French Connection-like Coruscant air chase scene in my book won’t be original anymore. *Drats. *Confound it; I’ve been beaten to the punch again! Dang that Lucas, he always gets to tell his stories before I do! *Back to the point, my eventual, hoped for goal is to publish my 9 book sci-fi series, my 2 (maybe 3) book Star Wars EU series, my non-sci-fi novels, and my book of poetry, song lyrics, and short stories.

4-Are you married or in a serious relationship? If so, does your partner share, tolerate, or loathe your love for Star Wars?
My former girlfriend, da bunny named Darth Lara, is a big SW fan too, and we met on the old Jedinet Council boards and it grew from there.

5-Do you have children; how old; and do they or will they share your SW obsession?
No kids. *But I am a 35-year-old child, does that count?

6-How long have you been a fan; and when did you become one?
I have been a fan since I was 10, when I was blown away in the theatre in 1977 by A New Hope. *I was a child playing with my toys imagining grand stories and epic battles (the beginnings of my 9 book series began with my toys), and ANH blew me away and fueled my drive to develop and eventually share my imagination even further. *At the end of last year, I spent time with a cousin I hadn’t spoken to in many years, and she asked me if I ever got my Star Wars published. *When I questioned her, she reminded me of my childhood sci-fi story I always told everybody about, and how when we saw Star Wars in ’77 everyone went “Whoa! This is so much like Ron’s story!” *She told me that I was sad even though I loved SW, because it was the movie I dreamed of making and someone else made it first. *I don’t remember all that but vaguely, but even today people are making the movies I dream about making even before I can motivate myself to finish writing them.

7-What kind of sci-fi and/or fantasy do you enjoy other than Star Wars? What are your favorite sci-fi and/or fantasy books, movies, and TV?
Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek films, ST:TNG and ST:Enterprise, Terminator and Abyss, Total Recall. Silent Running. Star Crash. Lord of the Rings. *I loved the cartoon Star Blazers when I was young. *

I love space battles and lightsaber duels immensely. *What I enjoy most, however, is the sense of fantasy and different environment that take me away from the accustomed awareness of Earth. *I like being taken away to a sense of understanding and awareness so far removed that it touches my mind with the vastness and…wait, let me start over since I can’t quite explain this. I like to have my mind opened to environments so different from what I’m used to that I zone out and imagine that world as real and around me. *The bogs of Dagobah, the air space between the spires of Coruscant, a mile above the surface, and the immense size of those structures and colossal scope of the planet-wide city, the cold dark deep of “The Abyss”, the tranquil and soft light and appearance of Rivendale, the main characters of my 9 part sci-fi series fighting a war on the other side of the galaxy being in places so vastly different and unfamiliar that it boggles the mind; the feeling I felt in the Italian film Star Crash with the soft glowing hue of the red, green and blue stars, and the hazy visuals of characters and environments, even despite the horrible acting, made me forget where I was and truly experience that fictional escape from my own world. *So the response to my question would be in the examples given above, “the off-Earth environments and architecture;” and “the feelings of fascination and emotion from the showing of stories and environments completely different from our own understood and expected experiences…”

9-What are your hobbies? Do you collect sci-fi memorabilia, write or draw sci-fi and fantasy?
I used to shoot glamour photography but I’ve been away from that for a few years. *I used to take photos of my friends and everything I did and went, but now I can’t even pick up a camera. Maybe cause I run a photo lab and see thousands of pictures every day and I’m burnt out from photography.
I love writing sci-fi and non-sci-fi stories, and I used to write many poems and lyrics for songs. *When I was younger I spent hours at a time designing and drawing star ships and futuristic cities. *Now I have several star ships made from Lego (my own designs, not from kits), and I have a 30,000+-piece city with 2 foot high spires made from Lego, inspired by and representing Coruscant. *I’ve spent countless hours over the past 2 years, and roughly 800 dollars on Lego building this city, but it is a marvel and a joy to look at each day; and a reminder to me of my imagination and potential.

10-How long have you been posting in Star Wars forums? Why do you frequent these boards? What do you get out of it; and what do you hope to give to others?
I’ve been posting on Jedinet since September of 1998, after I went desperately searching for any pre-Episode I info on the coming movie. *I like reacting to what others write, and sharing my own thoughts with others to spread a little bit of myself around (don’t worry, I washed it before I touched you with it). *Mostly I enjoy using and expanding my mind via episodes of reading and writing on the net and in the forum, and it is to me a launching ground for further thought and expression. *I admit I use the forum to procrastinate and vegetate when I have trouble working on my stories and need to work on something simpler to take a break from taxing my mind *When I have trouble developing my stories further, it is far easier to come here and relax, less draining than struggling with the right words and expressions for my works of fiction; and by posting here I build up my sense of creative direction and sometimes manage to focus more. *Or something like that.

11-Who were your childhood heroes or role models?
John Robinson, captain of Jupiter 2-Lost in Space, my favorite show when I was a little one. *Ed Straker of Shadow Forces-the 60’s show UFO. *My father, a hero and a people’s man, a friend and role model to many others in the Boy Scouts, synagogue, and the neighborhood. Luke Skywalker, a dreamer with his eyes on the future, the horizon, never his mind on where he was or what he was doing…but on what he wanted to achieve and become far beyond his humble and uneventful life.

12-What film or TV characters do you slightly or largely resemble in appearance and/or personality and actions?
Andy Sipowitz in seriousness, brooding, and moods; Drew Carey; Homer Simpson in belly and hair, childishness and lack of motivation; Jerry Seinfeld in comments and expressions, and sometimes George Constanza in paranoia and self-defeating nature; Chandler Bing in clumsiness, expression, and insecurity, and Ross Geller in moodiness and outlook; and Luke Skywalker.

13-Name something you dreadfully fear yet dearly love and enjoy and/or find relaxation and fascination from?
The ocean, and dark water in general. *I am a good swimmer and have no fears of drowning, no, it’s the fear of not being able to see under me or around me in dark water and the panic of being vulnerable. *Damn Spielberg and Benchley! They scarred me for life! I’ve been to the beach and hung out in 4 feet of water but it’s nerve-wracking. I have a lake behind my condo and I used to own a SeaDoo XP personal watercraft. People would watch me going at high speed doing tricks, turns, and spins in the water and wiping out, and didn’t believe that I was terrified of the very water that gave me so much fun and thrills. *I would fly off and hit the water, then casually swim back and get on and do it again, but despite the façade of calm that I managed to present I was terrified of being in the water. But despite ignoring my fear to enjoy riding, I never rode at night, because that was even more terrifying. *Likewise the ocean at night scares the hell out of me. At times I have gone to the beach at night when I was upset, stressed, and anxious, and sat by the water’s edge to think and sort things out in my mind. I can’t explain it, but my fear of the dark water, amid the quiet of the night, calmed me and relaxed me. Maybe because it convinced me that the terror of the water near me was greater than the fear inside me, and I saw that the darkness beyond was vaster than the darkness within.

14-At the end of your physical life, what do you most expect or hope to be remembered by, by those outside of close family and friends? *And, what message do you want inscribed on your tombstone?
My books, my stories. I fear not dying per se, but dying without my dreams seeing the light of day, and people experiencing what I’ve so wanted to share.
My tombstone message: “Damn it moron! Get off my head with those spiked boots!”
Or: “What the hell’s leaking?”
Or: “Would somebody tell the neighbors to stop rolling in their graves? I can’t sleep with all that noise!”
No, Seriously, on my tombstone: “In life he tried, failed; tried again, failed; tried again, and finally succeeded.”

15-If you could contribute one aspect of yourself to all of humanity, what would it be?
My sensitivity and humility. *I know that’s 2 things, but I think one compliments the other, and vice-versa. Maybe with an abundance of those 2 wrapped into one, there would be more peace and less hatred in the world. *If 2 enemies became sensitive to the other’s needs and dreams, and each realized they were not better than the other, there would be no division.

16-If a book or movie were to be made about your life, what would you have it called?
“Out of the Darkness, Into the Light”, about my 21 year battle with depression and my hoped for release from its shroud.

17-If you could figuratively “consume” or absorb three people to gain or understand their particular
knowledge, attitudes, and insights, who would they be and why?
1-Stephen Hawking. I am poor in understanding of science and physics, and I would savor his ability to understand the mysteries that baffle me.
2-Arthur C. Clark. *In addition to my own imagination, I would like to gain his understanding of the cosmos and the ability to write science fiction with such realism and believability.
3-My father Harry. He went through the Holocaust and survived living on the streets and running from the Nazis, then came to America and built a life for himself. I didn’t get to know him when I was a child as well as I miss him as an adult, but he was a brave man with physical and emotional strength. I don’t envy his memory of horrors and fights for life, but I wish I knew better his ability to risk death, brave desperate odds, and keep his confidence and faith in God. Later in life he was a strong man and a hell of a fighter (before I was born he took on 2 men at once and handed them their asses after they dissed his girl, my mother), and when I was a kid I was a wimp.

This answer will be shorter than my previous ones, and simpler than the responses given by others to this question. *If you go into darkness (as the cave was) preparing for a fight rather than seeking a way to gain understanding of the conflict and avoidance of hostility, the fight will come to you with haste. That was what happened to Anakin, and what would happen to Luke if he acted on impulse and hostility in the same fashion and the same path. I think that lesson was first learned by Yoda in Episode III by his own failure against Palpatine.

2. Ronald Reagan - the man who kept the world safe from the threat of communism. *Despite what history revisionists say today.
3. Alexande Dumas - the greatest author who ever lived. *Simply amazing. *And had an incredible zest for living. *(Winston Churchill would be 3a.)

Yoda was saying that in the larger scope of life, weapons are unimportant.
