Sometimes hollywood just can't leave things alone. Ever heard of the phrase "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" While I'm sure a decent job can be done with this movie, as a Dukes of Hazzard fan, I have to be pessimistic. I also heard they are remaking Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif

Check out this article:

Paul Walker as Bo Duke
Ashton Kutcher as Luke Duke
Britney Spears as Daisy Duke

Now I like seeing Britney Spears in tight, short clothing as much as the next guy...but can this movie actually work? Thoughts? Suggestions for Boss Hogg? Rosco? Cletus? Uncle Jesse? Cooter?

I heard Tim Burton will be doing it. If that is the case it will be good. Also, I read that the author did not like the first movie...it was too bright and kiddie. The re-make will be dark like it was intended to be.

Why can't Britney do what she was destined to do...work at McDs. gawd she's a horrible singer/actress.

I actually read that Johnny Depp might play Willy Wonka.

I also heard the Depp rumor. I suppose that would be pretty cool. He's a damn fine actor.

Tim Burton + Remake = Planet of the Apes....

I hope it's more promising.

As for this Dukes Of Hazzard movie. I would never go and pay to see this. I'll rent it. Britney Spears as Daisy though? I'm guessing they're not getting her for her acting abilities, because she sucks at acting.

I wish they would use someone else though.

Actually, I heard she was pretty good in Crossroads.

I heard that too but I probably will never see it. I also thought she did a good job as host of SNL. Seemed very comfortable as an actress.

Shame. Good voice. I wonder if they'll keep the original theme song. My guess is no...unless it's some revamped hip-hop or alternative version to get young folk to buy the soundtrack. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

A few years ago, Marilyn Manson was signed to play Willy Wonka, no, seriously he was. Right now, it looks like Tim Burton prefers Michael Keaton for the role. I don't know, I like the original, but it doesn't really capture the book. The book, like all Roald Dahl books, is much weirder and darker then the movie. If we are going to start getting into the habit of re-making classic movies because they don't accurately reflect the books they were based on, then I would love to see a re-make of The Wizard of Oz. The movie is this lighthearted thing, but the book is much darker and creepier.

Justin
08-16-2003, 11:43 PM
Not that much. I read it to some kids I took care of a couple years ago.

Anyway, the original Wizard of Oz movie is great.

Alright, where do I start?

Dukes of Hazard was cool. Don't know if they can do it justice with a remake. Casting Britney would be a big selling point, regardless of her acting ability. Personally, I would be disappointed with Britney, but then again I always am. And I'd like them to keep the theme song. If they have to remake the song then I'd want them to stick with a slow version. If all else fails they could go with Less Than Jake's punk version.

On to Wonka. I'd love to see Burton tackle that movie. While some people may have been disappointed with Apes, the original wasn't a musical(*thinks about simpsons and laughs*) like Willy Wonka is. I love the original but I'd really like to see what Burton could do with it. And Depp as Wonka?? That would be perfect. I was also wondering if anyone could tell me a little bit about the book and the author, but I guess I can head over to the book thread for that.

While The Wizard of Oz was a great movie, I would like to see it remade as a darker movie, not a musical. I've always loved Return To Oz.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Warner Bros. Pictures has cast Burt Reynolds and Willie Nelson in the big screen adaptation of the hit TV series The Dukes of Hazzard. Variety says Reynolds will play corrupt politician Boss Hogg and Nelson will star as Uncle Jesse.

Nelson as Uncle Jesse? What? Willie is skinny, and looks more a hell raiser than the boys. Reynolds i think is a good choice, mostly because he can bring a lot of humor to the role, but than again he just doesnt have the "girth" needed for Boss Hogg. Scott and Knoxville i absolutely hate as Bo and Luke. I guess they are making a "spoof" of the show with these choices. No way they can pull off the sincerity that is essential to the Duke boys characters. I do love Jessica as Daisy though.

Regardless it just will not be the same without Waylen doing the nariation.

Jessica Simpson is a TERRIBLE pick for Daisy Dukes. Her thighs are way to big to replicate what the original actress had. But I'm sure we'll get some great cleavage out of her as always.

Anyway, I'm loooking forward to this movie for what it is worth, even though I HATE remakes or rip offs

I think this movie is going to suck. They're just trying to replicate the success of the Starsky and Hutch movie.

I would like to see a Dukes of Hazzard movie that wasn't an outright parody, which is obviously what this is going to be.

OK can i ask a question, and this is pure ignorance talking. Was Dukes really popular in the northeast? I mean it seems like more of a country type kind of program.

This will be a movie I won't see. Not even on video. UNless they make it simi-serious like the actual show. Because I didn't even watch the movie Starsky and Hutch and I won't either.

Thye are suppose to make the Bionic Man eventually too. Which of course will involve Jim Carey. Why? Because Hollywood has ran out of ideas.

It was popular where I grew up.... southeastern PA.... one of my friends still has his Dukes of Hazzard pillowcase and I had toys and stuff growing up... just the good ol' boys, never meaning no harm.

I certainly approve of the casting of Burt and Willie (although I've always thought that John Goodman should play Boss Hogg and the Coen Brothers should direct), but the whole Johnny Knoxville (isn't he the guy from Jackass? when did he start acting) and Stiffler combo as the Duke boys doesn't make me that confident.

I'm hoping we'll see someone cool as Cooter. I think Aston Kucher would work.
