Hey you never explained what mayfair is. (I know it's a special paper, obviously) Do you just use regular colored pencils on it? It really creates a cool sort of shadowy embossed sort of look.

mayfair is a special paper.. it's like "construciton paper" in texture, but finer in quality and weight. the "emboss" effect is done by using the reverse side to it (as seen in "silent repentance")...

Tov, well, I didn't know if poeple wanted to see it since it wasn't SW related, but hey! This is Tov! Everyone should want to see it!

So, here is the back story:
I think everyone knows that I call "tov" a "bear" (it started long time ago in a galaxy far far away) and last night I had to do a character model sheet for a "new" character in my production.
It was a bear.
So I figured, why not let one of my friends gain from this?
Anyhow, we have to model our characters from real poeple/animals, and so I asked Tov to send me some pics of him... and he sent me these ones from the 80's whith his long sexy blond hair (god I envy that!) and I also needed something more current (it has to be current since that has to do with the voice relaiton to the character)... ANYHOW, I took the images, made the model sheet, and named him "Dov tov".
"Tov" being tovor's nick, but also in hebrew means "good". "Dov" is hebrew for "Bear" and together makes a little rhym that means "Good Bear".
I took one of the models, slaped it on a background, made a digital "cell" of it and viola! "Dov Tov"! :

Was inspired by the aciton figs of star wars... it was interestin' that everythin' had the "Lucasfilm Ltd." on it...and I just wondered what would happen if that was how it was in the REAL SW uni...

Anyhow, just for clerificaion, there is NOT a spellin' error in "their"!!

Tark, those are a barrel of guffaws! That comic is so well drawn, and the punchline is very funny. Jedibendu would get a kick out of that cartoon, since he occasionally in the Clowns thread relates to Lucas as his god. And I love the look on the Geonosian's face as he's getting thwacked (thwak was a word you used to use all the time last year.). Well,... *whips out professors hat*
...Animators animate in the non-photo-repo blue OR red as an underlaying part of thier image. Construction of a character starts off with geometric shapes and other measuring systems and then, of course, multiple lines to get the gesture, facial and expression just right. Hence, if we used a black lead, they would be a pile of stark black images (like if you raised the contrast on your computer to a max level.)
It then goes to the process of clean-up. This is where one fine black line is put over the blue/red in order to get a deffinate accurate line.
Why they do this is FOR the coloring process. Back in the "old days", each frame (post cleanup) would go an be copied on a transperant cell. Hence they needed the accuracey of the one fine line.
Now-a-days, however, it is all computer colored. The animaiton and clean-up process stays the same, but afterward they scan it into a graphic program (we use photoshop) and color it there.

Well, it's about freakin' time I updated, so here's a nice one.
Qui-gon's temper is clearly being tested by an alien as a cautious Obi looks on.

On an inside note, the character acting on Obi was really satisfying ... had to do some scoutin' but eventually found someone in a similar situation that was a really good model for me.
Know that face kids get when thier parents are gettin' ticked, but it's not at them, but they are still cautious anyways? Yah. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

Cut-off line added at a 10 FLD-C limit.
The composition might look heavy on one side, but the background isn't there to even it out.

Oh, I would have said 13 for the whole collection of Tarky's art, but I only gave that one a 9 because it lacked cobwebs in the corners and a trembling damsel padding trepididiously while looking over her shoulder for invisible terrors haunting her from afar, if only in her frightened mind, as a shadow of impending doom looms over her, apparently about to justify her overwhelming fears of what lay both behind her as well as in front just around the unseen corner, who also happens to be wearing a Victorian style dress with white lace and blue ruffles reminiscant of the 16th century era. In an animated cartoon, every scene has to serve a purpose. I can get into the technical details, but that would just bore you so I'll post the official "paperwork" to the scene:

Driving plot: Obi-wan feels that Anakin isn't sympathetic to living organisms. Worried about his Padawan's moody character, he insists on setting an example for him as to how to behave.

Summery of the scene: Taking an opertunity [obviously misplaced] to set an example, Obi-wan demonstrates sympathy to another organism.

Purpose of the scene: Driving the sub plot [lack of sensitivity on Anakin's behalf], humor break in chain of serious events to climax.

Execution: Humor
