I have seen quite a few fan films, as we all have. Every so often you might see one in the store.
This brings up the legal question. Whats the deal?
Does anyone know the legal do's and donts of a fan film?
Please post...

T'bone would probably be able to answer that question for you. I think it has something to do with whether or not you're making money off of it.

That's part of it. Comedies and parodies are pretty much protected as long as they don't use original music or stolen things. Can't use clips or music without permission and clearance. If you have all that stuff you can make money, you just need to have proof of all clearance. There's more to it but you can pretty much just sorta figure out what you can and can't do. You can't use other people's trademarks, copyrights and such. That's why I say either make parodies or original films - that way you're safe. The guy who made the Batman thingy is walking a pretty fine line, if you ask me.
