This may be old news but I hadn't perused the toy departments in a while so it was news to me. Today at K-Mart I purchased an orange electronic light saber. On the package, it shows Plo Koon and Coleman Trebor (I think) each holding an orange-yellow color blade. So I have some questions that I'm hoping you might be able to help me with...

1. What gives? This is a Lucas-licensed product. An orange blade does not exist. Did Lucas just want to make an extra buck? If so, why not put out some other colors too like yellow, white, or pink?

2. How long has this product been out? Like I said, I haven't checked the toy departments in a while so for all I know these were introduced a year ago.

3. Do they even make a Mace Windu electronic saber? If not, then again I ask, why orange? Wouldn't it make more sense to produce a purple one?

4. Do you think the production of this color saber is a hint that we may see new blade colors in Episode III? For the record, I don't think this but I am curious if others have a different opinion.

Probably for money and Orange seems very....atractive to the customers

I dont know, but I agree with you.

I think is too late to put new colors, AOTC was the perfect time to introduce them.

Yeah, there is a Mace WIndu saber, my neice has one. Never heard of the orange one that you're talking about, could be a factory screw up. I bought a Darth Vader one when the SEs came out and when i took it out of the box it was pink, not red.

<span style="color:darkblue">Yeah my store had alot of orange lightsabers when I wnet. Plo Koon was on it. Before AOTC was made it was planned to make Plo have a orange lightsaber. One of his figures released even had an orange saber, so it makes sense that would make one.

Just to follow up on this, I was in a department store the other day and saw a Mace Windu electronic lightsaber. I still think it's odd that an orange one was made, but at least I can eliminate comment #3 from my original post.

Plo Koon has a orange lightsaber in Star War power battes for ps1, but in AOTC he had a blue one, and Trebor has green

There's a question regarding the orange color of this lightsaber in the Insider as well. The official answer is something like "they wanted to give the children who play with it the possibility to portray a new character they made up themselves, some children like to play as Mace, Dooku, Obi Wan or Anakin, some like to make up their own character with their own lightsabre", there's even a possibility that they'll make sabers in other colors. (It's the Insider issue with Han Solo on the cover).

As long they don,t make a rainbow lightsaber, is ok for me.

I think that EP III could see new lightsaber colors.

It`s obvious that while blue and green are the traditional Jedi colors, and red for the sith, Windu's lightsaber can't be completly unique.

In the Expanded Universe, Callista has a Topaz (orange) coloured lightsaber. Don't know why I'm tellin' ya this but point is even if you don't consider EU to be cannon the movies are so if George gives a character a orange saber than I guess there are orange sabers...mmm coffee. I guess a lightsaber can be any color, based on the crystal within it. Sure, orange, why not? Just as long as it's not like those rainbow ones they sell at Disneyland style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

This was answered somewhere in one of the official LFL capacities. Wether it was the Official Site, or the Insider I do not remember off hand.

The orange lightsaber was a direct result to give kids more of a choice, yes Hasbro still thinks about kids when it makes it's toys.

Those lightsabers are a smash hit with the kiddies, well, were, as they have died down now. So to give the kids more playability, they made an orange blade. It was purely a playability issue.

As for why not other colors, my guess (and this is only a guess as it has not been confirmed in an official place) is that the orange, not having a direct tie to one specific character, was it's downfall, as kids liked pretending they were Mace, Luke, Vader, Yoda, etc when they played, so the orange saber went to the wayside. At TRU, it spent quite a bit of time in the clearance bin, when TRU clearanced them out for like $9.99 or something like that. So, Hasbro stuck to the specific character sabers. Now, as I said that is my best guess as to why no more different colors were made.

Is it a hint towards E3? Nope, it was purely a Hasbro decision to try to give kids more of a choice. They (Hasbro) may have had to gone to LFL to ask permission to make the Orange Saber, or they may not have, it depends on whatever the License states about how Hasbro is to go about doing merchandise that is not direct from the movies, but, from what I remember it was Hasbro Idea, not a LFL one.

Around the time of the Special Editions, I think they released white sabers, my friend had two, and I think me and my brother had them too.

I'd like to agree. Especially after seeing that clone wars episode with the two Jedi entering the cave with lightsaber crystals. There were plenty of blue and green but what struck me was that there was also plenty of purple crystals. If they are that abundant, why not more Jedi?

Cool white saber. Must have!

What I've been wondering is...On the episode II DVD, they have the character-themed commercials on the disk 2...Anakin and Obi-wan both have "Crystal" lightsabers, but Mace's is referred to as an "electrum" lightsaber...so what the hell is an "electrum" lightsaber?

jump on www.thelightsaber.com and visit their message board. You will learn so much about lightsabers. very helpful people too. I had heard the GL made it that all PT jedis had to use blue, purple, or green sabers. It was like part of the jedi code or something like that. It wasnt until luke started training jedis that they were allowed to use red. I also believe that is when you start to see more color (orange). I hope I could help but i know that site will answer all your questions.

That question was answered in SW Insider. I'll get out the mag and quote it later, but the jist of it is that electrum is the coating on Mace Windu's lightsaber handle, and has no effect on the blade. They just put electrum for uniqueness.

In EU novel Darksaber Kyp Durron has a silvery coloured outline on his blade.
