So, let's say you were writing feature stories and other things about the Fan Audio genre. What kind of topics would you be interested in reading about?

If you mean what kind of stories would i like to hear.
War, flat out plain and simple war stories. What i think is missing in starwars, nothing really intricate. Just a story about a soldier doing his job, no special jedi powers, just a regular soldier.

In that case, you'd like Second Strike. http://www.starwarz.com/timeline/2s/
But actually, I meant stories relating to the genre, like about the production side of things, or concepts and such, rather than in the actual projects themselves.

Here is what we need to see (imho):
1. How to create Vader's voice, stormtroopers voices, clonetroopers voices. I know "The info is in this thread over there...", but we need to compile all the information into one place.
2. What you need to record. Mixers, How to plug it in, Optimal comp setup (speed, ram, hd, etc), Best mics, and also "What will get you by in a pinch", free software, inexpensive. Tutorials would be great, before and after differences.
3. How to start with a sound in nature, synthesize it, and make something completely new. Ben Burtt style without the thousand dollar equipment.
4. How to set up a studio.
5. How to write a script with directions for the voice actors.
6. A growing list of voice talent with email addresses.
That's not everything, but its a start. I am committed to audio. It is a dying art form, and I think there's more life in it.

For #1, we might be able to tap Ben Fletcher to see if he can provide some info. For troopers and such, I might ask Matthew Gordon or Kurt Luther. That's info I don't have on hand.
For #2, we could sort of profile what each project has used, so people can compare, perhaps.
For #3 . . . That's not my area. We'd almost have to ask the Rise of Nobility foley folks.
For #4 . . . Again, kinda site specific.
For #5, that'd be easy to come up with suggestions.
For #6 . . . We have the database, but I really don't want to be dealing with email addresses, as many often don't want theirs to be public. That's where casting calls and such on the message board will come in. Those who want their info known can provide it to those seeking info.
I'll think about realistic ways to include those before release. If not, we can work on some for after. Most would go in the Miscellaneous Section.

One thing you could do is have a look at some of the Old Time radio productions. Listen to them some and you'll get a pretty good idea of what they used, remember they didn't have the 1,000 dollar equipment either.

Bump! Still wanting some feature ideas to beef up that section. Ideas and writers, even.

I had an idea once. Maybe I'll write it someday...

I think an article that concisely describes the process by which you convert an idea into a full-fledged audio drama would be interesting: the kind of dramatic devices you use, the actual technique of adapting narrative to an audio medium.
David Mamet's "On Directing Film" did that for me, for cinema, and it has become a repeated read for me, time and again...

That could work. I did a storytelling tutorial on ChronoRadio for 2004, but I never got into the audio-specific stuff since it was meant to be general.
