Name some bands your listening to and why you like them. I'm listening to Violent Femmes cause there music makes a pissed off person not pissed off anymore, and Sublime cause Brad just new how to live and its reflected in his music, I also listen to The Cure, Goo Goo Dolls, Brand New, Flogging Molly, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., Bob Dylan, and Red Hot Chili Peppers just cause I like music.
JediKeri.

Michael W. Smith, Mark Schultz, Audio Adrenalin, Mercy Me, Steven Curtis Chapman...bands like those.
Whitesaber
07-16-2003, 04:07 PM
Weezer, All American Rejects, ur... John Williams, erhm... Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a whole bunch of others that won't come to my head now...
There are currently two threads dedicated to music items, I see no need for this one:
Moocat's Jukebox - Post your favorite lyrics - http://www.galacticsenate.com/index.php?ac...=ST&f=22&t=1265 (http://www.galacticsenate.com/index.php?act=ST&f=22&t=1265)
And...
Music is Good 3 - What are you listening to now? - http://www.galacticsenate.com/index.php?ac...20&hl=listening (http://www.galacticsenate.com/index.php?act=ST&f=22&t=4920&hl=listening)
The first is obviously for lyrics, and the second for music that you are listening to currently. I see nothing in the second topic to keep you from posting the names of the bands that you are currently listening to, so this topic actually belongs there.
Edit - Ok. So people want another music thread, then let it be so.
And in the spirit of reopening this, here's my list of favorites:
This is not a complete list of everything that's here, but just a list of bands that are locked in my favorites of all time category. There's probably at least another 200 bands I could list here, but some of them just suck - lol. I even went through the trouble of classifying them for you folks:

Sometimes I'll listen to 20 different bands a day for weeks. Than I'll go a few weeks without listening to anything. I do this because music is like a dangerous drug for me. I usually can't take it in moderation and almost OD everytime I listen. It sucks me in, chews me up, and spits me out... because I let it. One day I will be victorious.
Oh, and yesterday I listened to a lot of newer Weezer(mad kow, the victor, etc.) and a Beulah cd I have; When Your Heartstrings Break. The song on the Beulah cd that pierced my heart this time was Emma Blowgun's Last Stand. I recommend both Weezer and Beulah. Check out allmusic.com or something for descriptions. Oh, I definitely like Weezer's old stuff better. They weren't better or worse songs, they were just more emotional. River's was younger and more wreckless. I don't like to give any song or cd the title of my favorite, but I've listened to Pinkerton more than any cd or song I've ever owned. It has touched me more than I touch myself. The Green Album is very tidy, but Maladroit loosens things up a little bit and some newer songs just sound emotionally heavier. If Weezer drops another "Pinkerton" on us I will probably absorb every ounce of it, and explode. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif

Holy shiza. You both like the White Stripes!!! I've loved them since I first heard "I Think I Smell a Rat" (at least I think it's titled that, I've got a burned copy, so it doesn't have all the titles). That was about a year ago.
Elephant was good... but I still think WBC was better... although Black Math, Little Acorns, and Girl You Have No Faith In Medicine were completely awesome.
Lately I've been listening to Grandaddy (Concrete Dunes), Pete Yorn (Day I Forgot), and The Sounds. Oh my gosh, that reminds me...
The Sounds are the best!!!

I hope you've been listening to new AND old Metallica. I like Metallica's work for the most part. I haven't listened to St. Anger yet though.
I'm listening to Dim Dim right now. It's electronic and loveably experimental. I think I'll download a cd. Gotta love emusic.

I prefer 80s muzak, and a little oldies is always fun.
I like BNL, U2 is ok, I despise heavy metal, rock, punk, rap, christian rock, classical isn't high on my list, but sometimes it's fun, I hate jazz, blues, pop. Yep, mostly 80's music and a little stuff from nowadays mixed with a few oldies.

I've been a Megadeth fan forever. Unfortunately, all the albums since "Countdown to Extinction" have only been mediocre - then there was "Risk", which was an absolute train wreck. For *yeeears* I've been waiting for Dave Mustaine to put out an album on par with "Peace Sells". His latest effort, "The System Has Failed" is perhaps the closest to the 1986 masterpiece that we've gotten yet!
This, I'm sure is in no small part to Chris Poland returning to record some blistering solos for this album. There are very many times where you feel the same smooth, sonic tension as you did in such classics as "Good Mourning" and "The Conjuring". There is more than one moment where you hear true vintage Megadeth coming through. The guitar work all around on this album is the best it has been in years. Aggressive, hard, and in your face. Dave's vocals have also show a return to his better days. He's stopped (finally) trying to be something he's not - a soulful, sensitive vocalist, and returned to his roots. Yes, we get to hear the trademark Mustaine grunts and sneers. He finally sounds *pissed* again!
There are, of course, a handful of songs that are nothing more than filler. And Dave still has some problems fitting his lyrics over the music: the vocal dictation at parts doesn't fit with the music behind it. This is a problem that he's had since Cryptic Writings. It's not as bad as it has been in some previous albums, but it is noticable in a couple of places.
Overall, this is a great return-to-form for the "State of the Art Metal Band". It was looking for a while that Middle age along with family life and sobriety had taken away Dave's "edge", but this album clearly shows otherwise.
I give it a B+

Right now I'm listening to Sigur Ros. Am I dreaming? Am I awake? Either way, may I never sleep.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Who is Sigur Ros? The band, which sounds a bit like Radioheads experimental album Kid A, consists of Jon Bor Jonsi Birgisson (vocals, guitars), Kjartan Sveinsson (keyboards), Orri Pall Dyrason (drums) and Georg Holm (bass). The band creates a remarkable sound for the instruments it uses. Jonsi often uses a cello bow to strum his guitar, creating an atmospheric, unique sound. The most distinct aspect of the band is Jonsis falsetto voice. He sings in both Icelandic, in which their first two albums were recorded, and an invented language called hopelandic. The words have no meaning, it is as if Jonsis voice merely acts as another instrument.[/b][/quote]

I think what makes this thread different is the WHY. Today, I am really into a band called Constantines its kind of a Bruce Springsteen singing for Fugazi kinda of thing. Its a real hard working vibe, Canadian style. Also, Death From Above 1979 is one to check out if you like dancy rock stuff. Its a 2 piece, just bass and drums with the bass tuned way up. check out the above mentioned here:
