View Full Version : Whats with DC?

I know we've all noticed that Marvel has been pouring out movies based on its heroes, Blade, Spider-man, Daredevil, Hulk, and the Punisher, not to mention Iron Man, Elektra, Spidey 2 that have already gone into filming and production.
Why can't DC get one off the ground?

Because their last attempt in the theater sucked! And because they want to make stupid Batman vs. Superman.
Marvel Comics are better anyway, IMHO.

Bond, Batman vs. Superman has been shelved, and that's really old news.
As far as them not doing any Superhero movies, Warner Brothers (which owns DC comics) is in preproduction for a new Superman film that's directed by Brett Ratner (Red Dragon).
Apparently they've been developing a movie based on Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One," as well as movies about the Flash and Green Lantern.

<span style="color:darkblue">I got to argee that Marvel is better the DC, but Batman is good. The latest issues of Batman have been great. And Batman Vs. Superman has not be shelfed. It's still planned to be released in 2005 and the next Batman movie is due out either November 2003 and sometimes in 2004. But we will be seeing a Batman movie soon. As for Superman's own movie is hard to see go through with what trouble WB is having with actors.</span>

Dude, the director quit, the flick has been shelved.

They havn't even begun production on a new Batman flick yet, there won't be one at least until 2005, and it will NOT be Batman vs. Superman.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> McG, who directed Moore's comeback attempt in the soon-to-be-released ''Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle,'' has told a British interviewer that he's ''this close'' to signing on to direct Warner Bros. long-stalled ''Superman.'' From Entertainment Weekly, January 28th, 2003:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Christopher Nolan's last movie was about a night-owl detective, and the one before that was about a vengeful vigilante. So it's no wonder Warner Bros. has picked him to revive the ''Batman'' franchise. Variety reports that the ''Insomnia'' and ''Memento'' filmmaker will direct the next Caped Crusader movie. He did not say whether or not he would also write the screenplay or what the plot would entail, though the trade paper suggested that he might consider ''Memento'' star Guy Pearce for the role of Bruce Wayne.
My comments? This is old, and it's the latest info published in EW... oh well...
In other news, Batman: Year One has been on the back burner since 2001... so who knows when or if that will ever get the greenlight... originally Darren Aronofsky was discussing helming that.
In still other news... why are Batman and Superman (and their counterparts) the only DC comics even being discussed as movies? Perhaps because they are the most popular, or the only good ones. What do you think? What DC comics would you like to see turned into movies?

maybe cause they arent sell-outs and realize that most of these action hero movies are below average and just make lots of money for 1 weekend
except for X-men. If they do it well it can be fabulous, but most superhero movies just come out campy and average.

Marvel was never like DC, it was always better, because for one, the stories were centered around real-life situations, they're set in real-life cities, and they deal with issues such as predjudice and civil rights and so forth, DC pales in comparison, IMHO.
I still like DC, but I'd much rather read an issue of X-men or see an X-men movie than see another Batman or Superman movie (at least for now until I hear of a really good idea).

He isn't that good. He's overrated. He's done some great work, but he really really has to work to get it. He's a method actor, and he can't just jump inot the scene. It's affective for alot of performances, but he can't just jump into the scene. and 2.5 million for only say 10 minutes of real screen time is a bit much. Especially for the 1970's. it's probably close to 10 million nowadays. It's ridiculous.

that's not uncommon actually. More people relate with movies than comics.
DC doesn't really have any properties that they can normalize anymore, plus knowing them they'd do a Green Lantern movie and have every person in the movie wear yellow. Gasp! What's the Latern going to do now!
But seriously, the Flash? Bad TV show.
Superman? Has been played out.
Batman, the cartoon series was better than the movies.
Wonderwoman - Eh. No. Feminists would go nuts about the skimpy outfit.
Robin - They screwed him up in Batman 3 and 4
Martian Manhunter? That'd be cool.
Hawkman/woman - eh no, bad Flash Gordon effects
I wouldn't mind seeing them do a Sandman or Death movie, those were good books.

Actually this one should be cast and helmed within three months according to Entertainment Weekly. There have been several rumored actresses, originally Sandra Bullock, but no more... here's a quote:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Producer Joel Silver, the man behind the Matrix, recently hired former Smallville writer-producer Phillip Levens as screenwriter No.4 for the project, in development for at least four years. Levens is taking his cues from the '70's TV show, equipping Diana Prince's alter-ego with bulletproof bracelets and a boomerang tiara. Sandra Bullock has been considered in recent years, but now producer Leonard Goldberg (Charlie's Angels) says that he'll cast an actress "in her early to mid-20s." (Rumor has it ex-Slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar is hot for the part.) LEvens expects Wonder Woman to have a director and star within three months. First he'll have to see if his script takes flight like WW's invisible jet.
