Discuss all the Spider-Man comics here! Ultimate, Amazing, The Old Spectacular, Marvel Team-Ups, Ultimate Marvel Team-Ups, Crossovers, Spider-Man mini-series', Peter Parker which ends in July and is re-starting with a new name Spectaular Spider-Man and issue 1 starts off with part 1 of a 5-part story arc that features Venom! He's back, but why? Venom goes on a hugh killing spree and Spider-Man has to find out why. And we all know how his detective skills are! My new fave Spider-Man comic has got to be Ultimate Spider-Man! I love it that he's 15 again! I also love the the designs for the villians! They look so kewl! The new take on Venom was much better then his original version! He was much smarter, but still as evil as ever!

As far as I'm concerned Peter Parker: Spiderman is the best titl;e out there, just after Daredevil, the Man Without Fear.

I haven't read any Marvel Comics in more than a decade, they suck. The people writing for Marvel today, have completely destroyed Stan's vision for his characters. But I still read the Spider-Man newspaper strip by Stan Lee, every single day!

What papers is that strip printed in? Hell, I didn't even know that it was still in existence!

Back in the day (late 80's to early 90's), I read all of the Spidey titles that were around. they included: 'The Amazing Spider-Man'; 'Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man'; 'Web of Spider-Man'; and 'Spider-Man'.

Me too, but when they introduced Venom and Carnage, and with them all the violence and brutality, they completely betrayed Stan Lee's vision of then character. Spider-Man is not a dark, brooding, nihilistic character, and the recent attempts to make him such, have ruined the character for me.
Anyway, the Spider-Man newspaper strip can be found online here:

It is the kind of Spidey I like, old school Spidey. No symbiotes, no stupid clones, no resurrection of long dead characters. It is quite refreshing actually.

Actually, Venom and his buddies were created by Todd McFarland back when he worked for Stan Lee. But Todd wanted to go overboard on the blood, gore and violence of the characters and Stan Lee told him no. So McFarland quit and did the spawn thing. At least, that's the what happened as I understand it. I could be wrong. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif

No, you are basically correct. But, notice what happened to these characters over time. Venom was first introduced inn 1988, he had teeth, but they were small, about 24 months later, they had that great story about Spidey faking his own death and fooling Venom on that island. When they brought back Venom, to fight Carnage, he suddendly had these huge fangs, and he started drooling all over the place. Then, they had him saying 'I want to eat your brain' and other such idiotic crap. Over time, these characters have gotten more and more graphic, more and more violent, and more and more out of step with Stan Lee original vision for the Spidey. And it's not just Spidey, all of the Marvel characters are now 'dark' and 'violent' when they never used to be. I especially dislike what they have done to Captain America and to Iron Man. Iron Man is now a complete jerk, he is not even heroic at all. No thanks Marvel!

Hey, pick up an Ultimate Spider Man. Not dark at all, IMO. Re-explores Spidey's roots.

I love Ultimate Spider-Man too. But I love the original Universe. And I can't wait for the new Spectacular Spider-Man! If there is anyone that can write a great Spider-Man comic it's Paul Jenkins!

I have looked at some of Ultimate, but I don't care for it. They have changed too much around, I particularly dislike the way they re-designed the villians, they tried too hard to 'update' what did not need to be updated. But, I will grant, the tone of Ultimate is a little closer to what I expect from Spider-Man.

The Ultimate Universe is really good. Some could even argue that it beats the original Spider-Verse by a long shot! The take on Venom that was done not long ago was great! Eddie and Peter were friends as kids and everything! It was much better then the original take on him! It didn't come from space either! No Secret Wars! It was actually a suit that Eddie and Peter's father's created to cure cancer. the suit would bind to the person and search through them what was wrong. It would give them more strength and look for the cancer, find it, and destroy it. But it failed. Peter be accident got some of it on his hand and he had the black suit we all know of. The suit created it's own webbing and everything. At first Peter thought it was cool, but then he went up against Shocker and nearly killed him! The suit was trying to take over him! It needed him. The suit would slowly eat away at the person feeding off their strength. Spider-Man barely escaped the suit and used some electric cables to destroy it (no sound). Then as he was heading back to get the formula and destroy it, Eddie runs in and sees Peter. He was dressed in old clothes and everything when Eddie saw him. Eddie saw Spider-Man on the news wearing a suit that was just like the one his and Peter's father intended to create. He then looks up the wall and sees black finger prints and foot prints heading down to the floor! Eddie then puts two and two together and figures out Peter is Spider-Man! Peter goes through a long discussion about what the suit did to him. Then he tells Eddie that he can never say anything about Peter being Spider-Man, because no one else knows it. Except for Mary Jane, Doc Ock, Kingpin, Electro, Harry, Norman, and all of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Ultimates. Peter really knows how to keep who he is a secret doesn't he? Anyway, back on topic! Eddie says he has to go take all this in a leaves. Peter then takes the sample and throws it into a smokestack, where it's destroyed. He goes home, changes, and talks with Gwen. We then go back 42 minutes. After Peter leaves to destroy it, Eddie comes back in the room. He opens the door where he kept the sample of the Venom Project and it's gone. "The little jerk took it." Eddie says. He then heads to another door and opens it. There's another suit formula in it! "It's an ongoing experiment, you toddler. You keep the specimens separate. Separate, so that you can keep your figures straight. Guess, they didn't get to that in highschool bio yet." Eddie says a he removes the formula and sets it on a desk. He slowly puts his hand in it. Hoping to reproduce the effects. Eddie then shows up at Peter's school totally overtaken by the intensity of the Venom creation. Peter sneaks out of class to face Venom! Without a costume! All he has on is a jacket with his hood over his head. It's raining. The battle begins! They battle all through the city! Finally they both fall crashing into a car. the cops arrive and shoot at Venom. The shots push Eddie back more and more. You then see a torn cable laying on the ground. Eddie steps on it and is electrocuted. All that's left is smoke and what's left of the suit. slowly burning away. the issue ends. the next issue has Peter talking with Nick Fury about wanting him to get rid of his powers, because he feels Eddie's death is his fault. After a talk Peter decides to keep his powers. He then heads back to the dorm Eddie was staying at. He sees Eddies roommate (whose name is never said! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif) The roommate says if Peter is looking for Eddie that he's left. Everything that was Eddie's in the room was gone! "Eddie was here?" a shocked Peter asked. "Had to be. Everything was gone." roommate said. "Did you see him?" Peter asked. "No. I was at class!" answered roommate. Peter then goes to the science lab where the formula was kept as with all other papers about it. He crawls down and shuts off the camera. He looks for everything that had to do with the suit and can't find anything! a voice from behind: "Hello..." Peter turns but keeps the top part of his fave hidden. It turns out to be Dr. Curt Conners, who Peter did battle against his alter ego not long ago. Curt then says are you Peter Parker? And then adds "it was you on TV, wasn't it? I saw you wearing the suit in phase 2. The one your father invented. And I asked myself, how could Spider-Man get the suit? I never put together that Ray Parker's son was Spider-Man. Eddie told me about you. He said you were just a kid, which you are. I would have never put it together if I wasn't here now. Peter Parker. Spider-Man. Good for you." Curt finishs. He then asks Peter who still hasn't said a word or removed his hood if they have met before. "You saved my life." Curt said. Wanting to know if that was Peter under the hood he goes: Please. Peter then removes his hood and says: Yes. "Did you ever tell anyone what happened that night." Curt asks. "No." replied Peter. "Not even Eddie?" Curt asks again. "No, of course not." answered Peter. "Well then... consider my lifetime discretion towards you and your secret life a favor eagerly returned." Curt adds as he takes starts drinking. Peter then asks where all the stuff on the suit is and Curt says that it's gone. Nothing is left. Eddie must off took. There goes another two years of my life wasted. Curt said. Peter then says that he saw Eddie die. After a long discussion Peter jumps out in the roof and his Spider-Sense goes off! Peter yells: "Eddie. I fell responsible! Please let me help you! Eddie?" Peter looks around and sees nothing he lowers his head. But in the shadows we see Venom bent down in a Spider-Man like pose. The issue then ends. I smell sequel!!!
