X-Men RPG

Why hello. I've been pondering the thought of starting an X-men RPG. I am not sure if this would be under the gamers section, but I am posting it in here because more people may likely see it. Move it if you want.

If anyone was interested, I was thinking we could make a page with the characters and such and RP through the message board here in the gamer's area or AIM/Yahoo.

I think we should stick with the mainstream comics, Uncanny and New X-men it allows for more characters and more situations.

We can take characters from whereever we want, but the formula in the main X-men series is the best, it less contrained then the movies.

But lets say for instance, I'm playing Wolverine, than I should be able to have the choice between the movies explanation of who he is and how he became that way or the what the comics say.

I would suggest maybe starting at an early time, before the group is entirely assembled, allowing people to make their own choices, allowing for more personnal separate adventures.

I don't think it'd be wise to start out with Magneto and Xavier being the big bosses ya know, that's the beauty of rpg, we can do whatever we want.

Of course, going with Whisper's idea of making your own... what about this:


X-Men: Generations
The New Class

We each take on the role of a classic character from the series... and also make a new character of our own... each of these new characters are young members of the newest class at Xavier's school. While the classic character is kind of the mentor or advisor if you will to this new student.

We could start out arriving at the school... some of us new to the whole mutant thing... some of us a little more adept... but the Freshman class at the school. And we get caught up in an adventure.

Yes. As for the freshman's mentors, I think it would be easier to have one of the other players as your mentor for your freshman. It'd be more fun to interact with another person. However, you may choose to be your own mentor if you would like.

Make sure you discuss with the other person's character if you are interested in having them as your mentor. They of course would have to agree.

As for who is who...
I was thinking first come first serve. I'd hate to chose from two different forms. Once I post the form, you may e-mail it to me and I will start the list.

Up to 3 characters Maximum
1 Classic Character or Original [For your mentor]
1 Original [Freshman or another Mentor if you choose]
1 of your choice. [You do not to even have a 3rd one]

I disagree, it's a role that someone should take on, just as Magneto is.

Someone should at least casually assume the role (especially in the beginning), while other players could simply move around it, or take their own direction with Xavier if needed.

But I digress. I think I could take on the Role of Xavier. I'm an experianced actor and roleplayer, and I've been entrusted with power characters before. Besides, in the comics, the characters don't always do every last thing The proffessor tells them to do. (Although my spelling would have to sometimes be excused.)

But if anyone really has a problem with it, I won't. I don't want to irritate anyone here.

I also have a new mutant of my own in mind. One with a nifty little twist that I think will generate enough dissent and disruption to get a storyline rolling on it's own, however, I'd like to confer with that narrator on it. Would that be you Aurra?

(I personally prefer the wheelchair, but I'd rather be in the same universe as everyone else.)

Being that I'm playing Magneto, I would personnally like to start out at the "beginning" if you take my meaning, before Magneto cripples him.

But that could end up being some sorta flash back.

I don't think we should really use the comics or movies that much. Kind of branch off witht he same characters into our seperate thing.

Yeah that certainly seems to be the best way to go for most of us, but if someone decides to stray off and do it differently, to a certain extent, let him.

Well, I've been reading through the thread and quite frankly it seems to be going fairly smoothly. Past or present posting doesn't seem to really make that big a difference, as long as everyone knows what's going on and when.

I do however feel that there should be rules.
I.E. if you have your character attack another there's none of that "*Wolverine digs his claws into Cyclop's neck and pops his head off!" sorta thing. Attack posts should always give the target a chance to respond.

Example; Rouge; *heaves the tank above her head and hurls it at Omega Red* "Take that!"

Omega Red; (being played by another person) *Ducks under the flying tank. He is momentarily silhouetted as the tank erupts into a ball of flame as it smashes against the building behind him* "Now, It is my turn!

It's a post and wait for response type deal. If you don't see a reply post within a certain amount of time (Say someone's internet pooped out on them)I think it should be assumed that the character has fled the scene, and escaped.

What do ya'll think?

I also think that people should remain in character. I.e. *A little Kid stumbles between Cyclops and Jean Grey, while they're making out. Cyclops grabs the kid by the collar threatens him with bodily harm and then throws him out into traffic.*

If someone makes a small character slip perhaps we can let them know through the PM system. (Hey, Wolverine wouldn't say something like "Wow! Flowers and Ice Cream! Awesome!") If the player consistently abuses the character, perhaps they can be reported to Aurra who can sit them down for a little "chat." After all I know I don't want to see my favorite characters get butchered by someone who just wants to act like a moron.
(Hey, I'm Nightcrawler, and he's the best X-men out of all of them, so I can do whatever I want! If I say Nightcrawler wears an upside down cross then Nightcrawler does it.)

Extreme Out of Character occurrences should be story influential. I.e. Jean Grey becoming Dark Pheonix, or whatever.
If you intend to do something like this with your character, I feel Aurra should be informed so she in turn can warn everyone here on this thread that someone is about to experience an extreme personality change.

But like I said let's not bug her over every little thing. Argue out your opinions on how characters should act, speak, and just conduct themselves in general using this Forums Private Messaging system.

I assume we'll be using this as an "about box" as we used to call them. Propose story ideas here so people can plan a little. And I don't see why we can't make other people's characters do something as long as it doesn't screw something up. For example, you were talking about fighting between the characters. Well, I say that if the person doesn't post after a while (after you've issued a challenge or whatever) I don't see anything wrong with you making their character respond! I mean, it doesn't have to be all "Scott says 'Hey, Logan, what's goin on'" and then we have to wait ages for whoever's playing Logan to log on again!

Yeah, I screwed up on that as well but I think i figured it out. About the fighting, if people can respond then it might suck a little. Like if say Cyclops sends a laser blast at Magneto then Magneto dodges it. Then Magneto throws a metal pole at Cyclops but Cyclops dodges it. Both character are gonna be invinceable. See what I'm saying?

I agree with leia and aurra. you can get hurt and not die, another thing is you don't have to be invincible what ppl need to do is work around their "powers" use them to your advantage. i mean jean grey could do about anything to a bullet so she doesn't have to worry too much but use your abilities to help yourself. if that make any sense what so ever (it does to me so if i need to explain it more than just say and i will.)

I hear and agree. I have no issues with someone posting an action or conversation for someone who has not posted back yet. (Please use the little bar at the bottom that tells you who`s on or not so that way no toes get stepped on!)

However I feel that if you do this, you should treat the other player`s character with a healthy amount of respect. The Character effectively becomes an NPC (for those of you who understand tabletop roleplaying terms) Therefore killing, injuring, or putting the character in an otherwise compromising position should be outlawed. Nobody wants to log on and find that their character is tied to a chair and being beaten about the head and shoulders with Juggernaut`s jockstrap. Thus, if you are RPing someone elses character, it should be done in the best interests of the other player not YOUR character.

Aurra, btw, I sent you the bios for Xavier, and Duplakit. There are people asking about The Prof. already so I`m going to go ahead and start RPing him. (It`s not like someone doesn`t know who he is. If they don`t they need to royally brush up!) I`ll wait on your approval of Duplakit though since she`s my own creation.

Mirax, Yes, someone is getting a little ahead. But we did discuss this here, about rules. In fact, it was suggested that if someone doesn't respond after a certain number of posts (or better a certain amount of time) that another person may "respond" for the other player, as long as it remained in that player's character's best interests.

Seems to me that the story (all of the stories) is (are) moving along just fine. Anyone who's lagging behind can easily catch up with a little imagination, and by reading about what's happened since then. And I'm sure those people playing villans, and collaborating on a story arc are in contact and with each other.

I don't know about you but I like being surprised, that's part of the fun of roleplaying. A little bit of consipracy can be fun! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hehe.gif

Yeah Pyro's part of the Brotherhood, which really has already been introduced to some point, we just need more players.

I suppose any characters that are necessary for the story but are not being played (as far as the brotherhood) we'll control and use them however may be needed, I've already introduced Mystique.

Errm...There is a specific section to Duplakit's bio that I had asked to have edited out. So Aurra, if you just read through it real quick you should be able to see the part I meant for players to see and the part that's for your eyes only.

And mentioning Carla is actually a GM's technique. It's a ploy to root out the folks that don't adhere to player/character knowledge. I wanted to see if there was anyone who might become a problem so that we could all set them straight before we get too far into the story.
Also it serves as a plot device. It's foreshadowing. With a game such as this, when one character's story isn't the only focus, sometimes you have to over-foreshadow (my own terminology) to keep people interested. It lets people know that something's going to happen with this character and if they stick around they might get in on a little action and intrigue.
