I wanted to know if anyone knew a release date or anything for this game. I saw somw screenshots somewhere and it looks cool.
For those who don't know, it has levels that you have not played in RS before such as the Speeder bike chase on Endor, actually walking on foot durin the battle of Hoth, and being Han with Chewie in Stormtrooper armor on the DS. Sounds great to me.

It looks awesome!!! :0
Exactly one thing about Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike--the laser-hot GameCube-exclusive sequel to Cube-launch hit Rogue Leader--will not surprise you: When the game zips from hyperspace this fall, it'll pack a level on Hoth, the tundra-topped planetoid that has served as a seemingly Constitutionally mandated locale in nearly every Star Wars game set in the classic trilogy. "I can't remember how many times we've gone there," says Julian Eggebrecht, president of Rogue series developer Factor 5. "To quote the guys in the meetings at LucasArts [Rebel Strike's publisher and co-developer]: 'Are you nuts? You want to go to Hoth again?'" .... More info and tons of screenshots HERE!! Sounds like to much rehasing of events from the movies. I'd rather play new adventures than what I can see in the movie, but that's just me.

Thanks for the input people. All I knew was some screenshots. As far as being exclusively GCN, go get it !!! It has the most killer games on it. Resident Evil series has been rereleased on it with MUCH better graphics as well as RE4 for GC only. (I own GCN and PS2, so I can get all the games.) I talked my wife into buying it for my B-Day last year and conned my brother into buying the PS2 for Christmas. WHERE THERE"S A WILL THERE"S A WAY!!!!!

Interested in the latest installment of the Rogue Squadron franchise?
I just had an opportunity to check out Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike. It follows in the same vein of the previous Rogue Squadron titles with the space and atmospheric missions, but now features new ground-based elements to the levels.
The most stunning level I played was set in the forest moon of Endor and had you cruising around with, you guessed it, speeder bikes. The visuals looked unbelievably fantastic, with lush forestry and superb lighting. The sensation of speed is right-on; it's pretty intense to be dodging around, below, and above all the trees while simultaneously blasting the stormtroopers on bikes.
The familiar Hoth level is still present, although there's a new twist with it in that you start out on foot with a gun and can shoot snowtroopers. You also get a chance to re-experience the movie when you shoot a grappling hook onto the underside of the AT-AT, whip out your lightsaber to cut a hole, and throw in a thermal detonator to destroy it.
The other two levels involved space and atmospheric combat, one set in an asteroid field and the other above the forests of Yavin 4. I didn't get a chance to try these, but the gameplay basics seemed to be the same as the previous Rogue Squadron titles.
What's pretty cool is that clips directly from the real movie are integrated into gameplay as transitions. They serve their purpose well in providing a break in between the action.
Some of the demo units had two controllers set up to show off the multiplayer capabilities, but unfortunately the one I was at only had single player. Stay tuned for a more in-depth impression of Rebel Strike later on in the show.

I did not see this thread when I posted mine, but I must say that I am really looking forward to this game. I had the original Rogue Squadron on N64, and I beat every level at Gold Medal status. I really enjoyed Rogue Leader, it didn't have the same original story as RS did, but it was a cut above in terms of graphics. Thus, I am REALLY looking forward to RSIII.
And, if a mod could lock (or even delete) my thread, I would be most appreciative. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Here's the official announcement from starwars.com (http://www.starwars.com/eu/news/2003/05/news20030514.html):
Rogue Squadron Strikes Back
May 14, 2003
Get back behind the controls of an X-wing fighter or lead assaults against the Empire on foot as the critically acclaimed smash hit action arcade series from LucasArts continues with Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike. Available for the Nintendo GameCube for fall 2003, this intense action game continues the high-flying space battle traditions of previous Rogue Squadron titles, and adds multiplayer, character-based and ground combat into the mix.
Designed and developed by Factor 5 in conjunction with LucasArts, this new title features stunning, movie-like visuals over more than 13 action-packed missions. The battles themselves combine different forms of combat and play: a mission that starts high in the air over Yavin 4 can then turn into a ground-based gunfight with stormtroopers in the jungle, and then return to the air for twisting dogfight action. As with the previous chapters in the series, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike has a story beneath the gameplay, driving the action and keeping it part of the Star Wars saga.
Among the vessels available for players are the legendary X-wing, Millennium Falcon, Alliance snowspeeder, Imperial speeder bike and AT-ST walker. In character-based combat, players can carry out missions as Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, or Han Solo. The vividly recreated locales include the forests of Endor, the frozen plains of Hoth, Bespin's Cloud City, and more.
Multiplayer modes encompass co-op endurance, capture-the-base, challenging dogfights and more. In addition, the entire Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader game is available for play in cooperative multiplayer mode. The game also features a comprehensive reward system allowing players to unlock numerous bonus features including extra missions, vehicles, and locations.
For more information about this and other LucasArts titles, visit their official website here.
Here's information from LucasArts' official Rebel Strike website (http://www.lucasarts.com/products/rebelstrike/):
LUCASARTS' ACCLAIMED ROGUE SQUADRON® SERIES RETURNS IN Star Wars® ROGUE SQUADRON® III: REBEL STRIKE™ FOR NINTENDO GAMECUBE
Developed by Factor 5, Exhilarating Latest Chapter in Rogue Squadron Action Arcade Series Adds Dynamic Multiplayer Gameplay, Character-Based Combat
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - May 14, 2003 - One of interactive entertainment's most critically and commercially successful action arcade series returns this fall in Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike from LucasArts. Available for Nintendo GameCube™, this thrilling third chapter once again features the intense flight battles of Luke Skywalker and his elite unit of X-wing starfighter pilots and adds highly desired multiplayer capability and character-based and ground combat to the series for the first time.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike is the follow up to Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader™, the best selling third-party title for GameCube upon initial release in 2001.
Designed and developed by Factor 5 in conjunction with LucasArts, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike features stunning, movie-like visuals, immersing players into an intense action-arcade experience. Players are drawn into the classic Star Wars Trilogy through more than 13 action-packed missions that encompass branching paths in flight combat, and ground-based character or vehicle conflict. For example, players can fly a combat mission over the dense forest landscape of Yavin 4 before landing to engage Imperial Stormtroopers in ground battle. Upon defeating the enemy, players then return to an X-wing and take flight against TIE fighters in adrenaline-inducing dogfights.
"With Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, LucasArts expands the award winning flight action franchise with multiplayer support and character-based combat, offering the widest variety of gameplay yet," says Marcella Churchill, senior marketing manager at LucasArts. "This latest game in the popular Star Wars Rogue Squadron series is highlighted by stunning, cinematic-like visuals, tight controls, and dramatically engaging storylines that immerse players into the most memorable characters, vehicles, and battles of the epic Star Wars saga."
Aerial and land-based conflicts in Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike take place in a variety of craft such as the legendary X-wing, Millennium Falcon, Snowspeeder, Imperial speeder bike, and AT-ST. Players also can carry out covert ground or air-based operations as Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles or Han Solo. Battle skills will be tested within extraordinarily detailed environments, such as the vast forests of Endor; Hoth's foreboding, frozen world; Bespin's gaseous Cloud City; and dangerous space meteor fields.

So who's played the demo yet?? I was in CompUSA today just dinkin around and noticed they've got the Hoth level on the latest demo disc running in Gamecube's. They've got F-Zero on it too if anyone's interested.
The game seems great. Yet another rehash of the Hoth level I think could've been avoided, at least for the demo.

i played it today. the graphics are just great. the snow and everything has improved tremendously. my only gripe with the new hoth level is that it seems really short, easy, and mostly pointless. it's neat to actually run around and take down walkers, but there didn't seem to be any challenge. also, the auto aiming capability makes it that much easier and simplistic.

one thing i did notice was the cut scene taken from the film. it wasn't the highest resolution, but it still looked great somehow. like, color-corrected and remastered (again?). it looked like it was recently filmed. i really can't wait for the trilogy on dvd now...

Yea I agree with you on the movie. The contrast seemed a bit off on it, and it was a bit too dark. But yet the picture quality beyond that looked much improved (probably becuase we were watching it on DVD digital format as opposed to the usual VHS format, there really is a quality difference).
*Lobot
bodhisattva yoda
09-03-2003, 05:31 PM
but even the cutscenes in the game weren't at dvd quality resolution. they still looked fantastic though. i'd prefer watching that gamecube blockiness over the vhs any day. the dvd editions will be superb. i'm very unsatisfied with my dvd bootleg copies now.
i'm almost convinced that, if there actually is an utlimate edition of the trilogy in the works, it may just look good enough to work well in terms of visual continuity with the prequels... although i'm really a star wars purist, i'd still love to see this. but i digress...
i'm certainly going to preorder rebel strike. for those who aren't aware, those that preorder the game get a special bonus disc which includes the original vector graphics star wars game (that's primitive 3D, which looks like green cg wireframes). that's a great incentive, i think.

LucasArts will be packaging in a special bonus disc with the latest game in the Rogue Squadron series.
LucasArts has informed GameSpot of the contents of a bonus disc that will be given to those that pre-order Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike. The disc will contain a playable demo of Rebel Strike (the Hoth level), a trailer for Gladius, a trailer for Rebel Strike, and a port of the 1982 vector graphics Star Wars arcade game. Rebel Strike follows events that transpired in the original Star Wars movies, taking players from the planet Hoth to the forests of Endor.

Yea its available, I just bought it tonight! Good luck finding it though, I went too two malls (both with an EB and GameStop) and they were all sold out. They insisted I reserve my copy now and wait til next week, but I wanted now, haha. So I stopped in Best Buy and what do ya know they had some left. The only problem is there they don't sell you it as a pre-order bonus, but just as a game by itself. So I'll still have to buy the entire RS3 for full price (kinda cheap huh?, oh well) The original Arcade game is fun, although its hard to play on the GC controller (I wish I had a Joystick right now, and I also wish I could un-invert the controls...sadly you cannot). The demo is great...although you'll beat it pretty quickly. The movies of RS3 and Gladius are nice....I thought Gladius looked like a bad game until I saw this trailer, and its actually convinced me that it might be half good. Who knows....anyways enough of my useless rambling. GO GET THE BONUS DISK

so, i paid five dollars for the presale disc. i'm actually not so sure about rebel strike. it doesn't seem like it really has anything new to offer. and the graphics aren't THAT great. when those rebel transports explode, it's like polygon confetti. like the ships just shatter. there SHOULD be a thundering explosion that almost looks like it's happening in slow motion due to the massive scale. but no. just confetti.

it has two player mode.
ign (http://cube.ign.com/articles/453/453600p1.html)
The multiplayer modes in Rebel Strike are split up into two main categories. The first is the two-player cooperative mode. Here, players can fly and blast their way through all of the levels from the hit GameCube shooter Rogue Leader.
The second category is the versus mode. Here two-players can face off against each other in split-screen mode.

I wonder if they'll include any secret unlockable ships as they have in the past, and maybe let you use them in the multiplayer (jedi starfighter?). I mean, they have Geonosis (the asteroid field) as a deathmatch map anyways, why not just include that as a ship option...
I'm sort of dissapointed that Factor 5 decided to remove LAN support (well it was never totally there to begin with). If any game needs LAN support in my opinion, I think Rebel Strike does (over mario kart).
Just my two cents.

Okay I've rented the game played it a bit, it's alright, but I'm not impressed yet, the first few levels havn't been very good, don't really like the on-foot combat as you cannot contral the camera at all.
I'm on the level "Remnents of Geonosis", it's a cool idea, having this era tie-in with the Clone Wars, but it feels really contrived.
High-light to read>>> You fight Battle droids, a Republic Gunship, and then Wedge flies a Jedi Star Fighter which has a supply of get this: Seismic Charges. Which in itself is cool, but doesn't work too well as an actual part of the game, just feels way too contrived like I said before, would've been better as a secret level you can unlock (that actually takes place during the Clone Wars), but oh well...<<<
On the plus side, multi-player Rogue Leader is great. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif
Here's hoping that if Rebel Strike does well they'll make an actual sequel to the game...
Jedi D'oh
10-27-2003, 02:34 PM
I don't know why you guys are all so darned picky. The game is fun. I like it. I agree that it sucks you can't control the camera on foot, but that is a small part of the game anyway.
The Relics of Geonosis was just a neat little thing to throw in there. The Jedi Starfighter is actually a cool ship to fly. Very fast and strong lasers. I like the seismic bombs, but just as a novelty. You can unlock the Jedi Starfighter if you get silver or better on all missions and bonus missions.
The bonus missions themselves are pretty neat, you can rescue Leia from the Death Star, escape from Hoth with Han and Leia, and run through Cloud City with Lando and Chewie, as well as pick up Luke from the underside of the city. They also have Attack on the Executor which is pretty cool and an on foot Endurance Mission. (I think its on foot anyway, haven't unlocked that one yet.)
By the way, does anyone know any codes yet? I haven'f found any myself.
Oh Yeah, anyone unlocked the arcade yet? It has a perfect emulation of the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back arcade games. Fun to play, I must say. Brings back memories of roller rinks and pocketfuls of quarters.

Thanks Javen, but I already had that info. I was just curious as to the codes because the other games had passcodes, plus there is a section in the options to enter passcodes. I guess they just haven't been released yet.
There is also an arcade version of ROTJ on the game, but it can only be unlocked with a passcode that is yet to be released.
Eventually there will be the codes to have infinite lives, open all ships and upgrades and all missions as there were on the past two RS games. I was just wondering if anyone had figured any out yet. I do not have the patience to sit there and enter codes all day to find them.
I really hope they´ll release this one for the PC.
