I was wondering what the rest of you folks thought about this theory. Persoanlly, I don't think the FINISHED version will make an appearance as it was more or less hinted at in a ANH that it had never been used [to blow up a planet], but I think me might get to see an unifinished shell like DS2 in ROTJ to give it a dramatic "the Empire is well and truley rockin'" feeling. A bit like the end of AOTC, Palpy and co. oversee starships take off, troops lining up etc. but this time Vader and evil Palpy overseeing the construction of the DS.

Any arguments to destroy or support my theory?

While that is a possibility, I don't think it will happen. Episode III, from what I've heard, only takes place two years after Episode II. I think there is an additional 20 years between III and IV. It would be very difficult to keep a project under wraps for that long. I think it would make for a great ending scene, however.

I'd love to see it, but it wouldn't make a lot of sense considering how long it would take to construct. DS2 was pratically done in about a years' time in ROTJ. If DS1 begins in EP3 and there is 20 years until ANH, well, do you see what I'm getting at?

the second death star may have been in construction before the first was even completed.

I doubt it if it were the "ultimate power in the universe" why build 2, this thing cost trillions of creds and man hours.

Well, we might get to see the vast construction site at the very least. Besides how exactly did they build the DS2? Was it slave labour? How do you know it was only a year?

I doubt that we will see the death star in ep: 3. Although it only took about 5 years to create the 2nd death star, it would take longer to make the 1st one because:
1. The technology isn't as advanced.

2. The Empire is hiding the creation of the death star because they're not in power yet. Remember in ANH Obi-Wan didn't even know about the Death Star when he saw it. Where as in the ROTJ the building of the 2nd death star was already known.

That's the point I was trying to make in the original thread. We won't see the DS1 in it's finalised version, but we may see the construction site. Hence the evil Palpy and Vader overseeing it bit. It would be in a secluded part of the outer rim, just them and the construction workers. E.g.:

Int. Shuttle. Space.
Through the viewport of the shuttle, we see the silhoutes of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine against a backdrop of a vast construction site in the half-finished shape of a sphere. There are no planets, or stations other than the site itself, afloat in the 'middle of nowhere'. The Galaxy (as seen at the end of TESB) is the only other visable object.

This is another reason why the Geonosians might not appear in the OT, after completion of DS1 they're wiped out to hide it's construction. Unless Master George inserts them in the Ultimate (added-way-to-many-pointless-extra-bits) Special Edition DVD.

quigonwindu- My bad about the 1 year, not sure what I was thinking with that. ???

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>. Remember in ANH Obi-Wan didn't even know about the Death Star when he saw it[/b][/quote]

Not so sure about that, he was the first to identify it, remember? Maybe he did see it about 20 years before, or at least the plans. Now I'm contradicting myself. :whatsthat:

Oh yeah Golla! At first I thought nothing of it. Obi says "That's no moon, it's a space staion!". Granted it looks like a moon from afar, but moons don't have to be big grey spheres in space (Endor). I always thought he used the Force and sensed that there was a mass of living beings on it but Endor showed that Moons CAN support life, but thinking about it... It's the way Al (God rest his Cool Soul) presents that line...
It's like he recognises the Ultimate Weapon and tells Han to turn around at which point Han says, "Yeah, I think your right." Let's get the hell outta here!!!

Exactly! He says it with such an 'aw hell' type of flavor.
Overall, though, I think that the timeline just doesn't match up with us seeing the DS in EP3. Upon thinking about it further, DS2 took about 4 years to make and they weren't even finished. Sure it was "fully operational", but it sure didn't look that way. But if they come up with a logical way to do it, it would make what Obi Wan says in ANH mean a little more.

My opinion is that Lucas need not show us even one nut and bolt of the first DS at the end of Ep.3. *He could show us a meeting room with the emperor, Vader, Tarkin, and other newly appointed top imperial officers, with the hologram of the DS we saw in AOTC on display. Then Palpatine would say "The Republic is ours*, the Senate is under my control, the Jedi are nearly gone, our* fleet is under construction to number in massive proportions, but it is this gift of the extinct Geonosians which excites me the most. *Someday I shall have it constructed and make my dream a reality. *When completed it will be the ultimate weapon and my authority over the galaxy will be unchallengable!"

To someone watching Ep. I-VI in order for the first time, when ANH begins they will see that the "someday" has come and will know even before they see the grown up Leia and Luke, that many years had passed since Ep. III ended.

*It is the emperor's alone, but his conspirators will need to feel that it is partly theirs as well for them to have helped him rise to power.

Well, that explains it. Them Death Stars are in 2/3rds of the movies.

It's funny to see these threads exhumed once in a while. Now rest, little thread. Rest in peace. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/innocent.gif
