View Full Version : More Screen Time

I'm not talking about scenes or plot arcs here, but after seeing all the AOTC hype in magazines, trailers and web sites etc, what objects/characters did you expect to play a bigger part in the film and have more screen time than what they did? Here are a few from the top of my head, all my own opinions obviously so hear me out.

Count Dooku: I felt that he came in too late in the movie to have any significant impact and was more of a tool to connect plot arcs than a threatening adversary. Of course this could be cleared up with Episode 3 but his presence in AOTC was rather dull.

Tusken Female & Child: For some reason I always wanted to know more about the society of alien species in Star Wars, with the designs of a Tusken female and child I was expecting to get a better look at the life of sand people but unfortunately their screen time was nothing more than a few seconds. I wasn't expecting a Discovery Channel documentary but something more than saber fodder at least.

Gondola Speeder: Admit it, how many others of you wanted to see it move?

AT-TE Walker: Show us the insides! While they are probably manned by Clones, is there a Jedi acting as captain and giving them orders? What do the interiors look like? How many troops can it hold? Again I wasn't expecting a load of detail but a brief shot from the cockpit would have given it more depth, curse Lucas for forcing us to spend more money on vehicle guide books just to satisfy our curiosity.

Trade Federation Core Ship: We saw it in space in TPM but now it's on the ground, has that changed anything about it then? Nope! For some reason I was expecting it to unleash a powerful attack after taking off since a ship that significant to the Trade Federation should not be allowed to enter a planet's atmosphere without having at least some air to ground attacking capabilities. Yoda made them a target priority because he didn't want them to escape but I was hoping there would be a second reason, which we would witness, that involved them having powerful air to ground weapons once airborne.

Techno Union Ship: Considering they were always shown in the trailers I expected them to be more than cannon fodder once again. The same rules for the Trade Federation Core Ship apply here too, a ship that significant should have some air to ground attacking capabilities, in that case destroying them would seem more urgent than just to prevent them from escaping.

Alas, I may have to wait until the "Special Limited Extra Effects Edition DVD" version comes out to see more of what I want.

I agree with Count Dooku, he had about the same amount of screen time as Maul but Maul was introduced early and it made you feel like he was in there longer, Dooku was introduced into the movie way too late

I think Dooku was introduced at the right time - it was the end of a detective search by Obi so it's logical to have him introduced there.
He was mentioned by Amidala at the start, Obi is looking at his bust in the Jedi Temple, and Jango told Obi that he was hired by a man called Tyrannus. So we are aware of 'the phantom menace' throughout the film although I agree, another 10-15 minutes would have been nice.

Hmm how about some more interaction between Padme and Anakin to make their more romance not seem to abrupt? I think building on that would have given it a better sense of realism; not that I dislike the romance the way it is.

the only problem with AOTC was the love scenes. They were so stupid most of them. the one at the before they enter the arena was actually good acting. The one at the fireplace was ridiculas, the first time they talk alone all anakin does is whine. Although we learned more about Padme, when they were in the fields it reminded me of a hokey movie. Obviously GL is trying to get crictics on his side, because all the Roger Eberts don't care about the movie unless there is some hokey pathetic love story that makes u think why the hell am i here at the theatre. Everytime a love scene was shown, I ducked into my seat because the scenes were so pathetic and the acting was pathetic. As far is Dooku is concerend, they could've, should've, and would've is pretty much the atmosphere with him. The only thing they should have done is show him plotting something with Siddious, show him talking about the plan with the Seperatists. He didn't need much screen time, but it would've increased the excitement towards the grand battle of Geonosis.

Dooku had enough screentime becasue it allows for us to wait and see what is gonna happen for the next movie. Too much of Dooku and the suproise would have been ruined for the next movie. Showing that he can beat the pants off of everyone but Yoda is a good idea and the deleted scenes about him with Jocasta Nu help explain about him. His name is mentioned in the whole movie so you know who he is before you see him. His talk with obi-wan is good too, cause it shows his dark side personality.

It would have been better for Count Dooku's role in Clones to see the scene where Jocasta Nu tells Master Kenobi about the life of Dooku.

I hope there will be tons of scenes with Count Dooku in Episode III.

I think Dooku was introduced at the right time, its just his duels weren't long enough. I would've had his duel with Anakin and Obi-Wan longer to show more of the extreme emotions that Anakin has and also to show the calmer and more sensible Obi-Wan. Then the duel with Yoda would've been longer, just enough to show that Yoda is about to get the upperhand (and why he is the master) and why Dooku had to get out there pretty quickly.

I think that Dooku's role will be larger in Episode III because he is already introduced, and he's a main villian. I assume he will die toward the last half hour of the film.

I would have to say only two things.

1) I thought that Anakin would have fought longer with two lightsabers. I mean he's the main character and he barley fought. His fight should have been longer.

2) I wanted to see moreof a love theme between Anakin and Padme. What GL made was good, but I wanted a bit more love scenes. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/saber.gif

What was missing from Attack of the Clones? How about the frickin' CLONE WARS?!?!

Good point but it was the start of the clone wars.

I would like to have seen a better love story. What they showed was hardly believable. I think they could have cut the chase scene at the beginning in half and thrown out the diner scene. Then show Dooku with Sidious a little more. More of the jedi students training to get a better idea of how it was done. The Obi-Wan/Kaminoan scene was a bit drawn out, too. Absolutely extend Anakin and Obi-Wan's fight with Dooku. Shown what Yoda had to do to flirt with the dark side. Extend Anakin's time with Palpatine. Maybe even show a little of Padme's family as it does in the novelization. Definitely extend Anakin killing all the Tuskens. Maybe not all of them, but show more of his anger and have a little more foreshadowing. So other than changing about half the movie, not much else bothered me.

(By the way, I still loved it.)

It's a WAR not a singular battle, otherwise it would have been called "the Clone Battle". :dunce:

First off, they have more with Obi-Wan on Kamino, and it should have been in the film, in my opinion. Obi-Wan's investigation was what drove the movie, so it was needed to be a big part of the movie.

Second, they did extend the duels between Dooku and Anakin & Obi-Wan, they're called deleted scenes. The movie was going on 3 hours long, they had to cut some stuff.

Finally, Yoda flirting with the dark side? What are you talking about?

Yeah what do you mean flirting with the dark side?

He probably means when Yoda meditated and probed the dark side.

Dooku was added at the right time, and I liked the length of the saber battle, Anakin rushed in unprepared whilst Obi-wan was formulating a plan. And i'm sure you all know Yoda's 'Quicker, easier, more seductive' speech from Empire, that just proved Yoda was telling the truth to Luke. He rushed in, nearly getting himself and Obi sliced & diced, sith style.
As for the whole romance scene argument, i'm sorry but talk about CHEESY!!!!! George should of got some(any)body else to write those for him. I mean i'm not without emotion, but that was just crammed into scenes that were too short, if the scenes were longer, it would make it a bit easier to swallow & the whole romance wouldnt seem as rushed. But, hey i'm still pissed at lucas for making JarJar a senator. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/saber.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/saber.gif
