Ok, so we know that Anakin is to have an apprentice in this flick. What's the deal? It seems quite strange that he would be trusted with such a responsibilty based on what we see of his behavior in AOTC.
I've read some thoughts around here that Ahsoka Tano's assumed death in either the film or the subsequent series will contribute to Anakin's turn to the dark side, and that makes sense. My concern is whether or not her absence in ROTS will be noticable to us in furutre viewings of ROTS?

This is the only thing that bothers me. There's no reason for him to have an apprentice, unless it's just a test on Yoda's part...or something.

It's really going to be something we have to wait and see once the movie comes out.

There is absolutely a need for more Jedi to come through the ranks as more and more are killed in the Clone Wars. It is no different to fast-tracking soldiers in a real conflict.

Although Anakin does not always act responsibly in AOTC, he does usually end up doing the right thing - e.g. calming himself when Padme falls on Geonosis and then saving Obi-Wan when Dooku is about to strike him down, after Anakin's initial impatience 'to make Dooku pay'.

Also, we know, as do the Jedi Council that he has remarkable powers. If anyone that has not achieved the level of Jedi Knight is to be given a Padawan to look after, it is Anakin Skywalker. Further, it could also be a 'test' - sometimes the best way to learn is to teach someone else.

As for whether Ahsoka will be missed in future viewings of ROTS, I'd look at it like the deleted scenes in AOTC with Padme on Naboo. Having it there would have added to the film, however, given that Lucas limits himself to 2 hours 15 minutes, you can't fit everything in. You know it's there, you don't necessarily be need to be told everything to understand what is happening or why.

True, true. Jar Jar certainly wasn't missed in ROTS, and no explanation for his lack of screentime was needed by the fans either.
As Kapti indicated, it may simply be too early to know the answer to this question right now.

Jar Jar was in ROTS.

Hehe... Kapti! :P

Yeah, sure he was, for about 5 seconds. Note that I did actually say, "lack of screentime". :P

Yeah, doesn't he say "Excuse me" or something. It's after the "happy landing" in the beginning when Anakin joins the crowd of dignitaries right before meeting Padme, correct?
Personally, I like Ahsoka, HOWEVER I think the idea of her being his Padawan is kinda stupid. Why? Because it just is. I ask: Why does she have to be his Padawan?

Because otherwise she wouldn't have anyone to learn from! :nahnah: I dunno, maybe her Master dies or something and Anakin is the next most suitable person, in the eyes of the Council. Maybe Palps makes it happen, who knows, perhaps we should judge once we have seen the movie. :)

Hmmmm... Palpatine making it happen actually sounds plausible. Okay, I could see that. It would be like the scenario from ROTS when Palpatine puts Anakin in the council against the Council's wishes.

Good idea, JMH. Let's hope it's done either this way, or another way that's still plausible.

I'd say if he's responsible enough to become a Jedi Knight then he's responsible enough to have a padawan.

Ah, but is he responsible enough to become a Jedi Knight? There's the real question ;)

He wasn't a jedi knight at the start of the clone wars and was made a knight during. True he ended up on the council be was never made master.

Obi Wan was made a knight by the jedi council in Ep1 and immediately given Anakin to train. It was his choice and agreed to by the council against Yoda's wishes. Mind you Obi Wan was older than Anakin and more mature.

This is what makes me relucant for Anakin to have a padawan. Not his age but his maturity.

I try to go in with an open mind when I watch her.

Well sure, he is a Jedi Knight, but as mentioned by others, that doesn't negate his obvious immaturity nor the the blatent distrust that a certain Jedi Master (Mace Windu) has for him. To be entrusted with the training of a padawan is very curious.

Only Master Yoda could answer that, he's got this thing about keeping his own counsel on who is ready.:)

But I don't think Yoda would have let him become a Jedi Knight if he thought he couldn't handle a Padawan. Remember he is one of, if not the most powerful Jedi in the order, thats gotta count for something.

Its easy for us to know hes a flawed character, we know that he's hooked up with Padme, whined about Obi-Wan, murdered Sandpeople, becomes Darth Vader, has issues with sand ect, but Yoda's in the dark about all of that, so to speak.
