Has anybody tried the Saga edition of the WOTC game? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the price.

WotC?

What SW game is that?

The "Saga edition" of the pen and paper game from Wizards of the Coast.

Never heard of, if it is not based on Star Wars, it's not supposed to be in this section.

So Wizard of the Coast is the publisher? Why not just say so?

But enough of that, now that we know what this thread is all about, I'll let people who know anything about this reply.

Some of us do actually know what you're talking about, Darth_Corndog. Yeah, I've played pretty much all of the versions of Star Wars RPGs:
1. The old West End Games d6 version (1980's)
2. The newer WotC d20 version (around 2000)
3. The newest WotC SAGA d20 revision (2007)

In many ways I prefer the old WEG game. Rolling bunches of d6's is a blast. The problem is that they never updated to include anything from the I-II-III trilogy (I think they lost their license). Of course, you can re-create much of that game system by buying the newer WEG product called D6 Space.

As far as the SAGA version goes, I find that it runs smoother and cleaner than the earlier d20 game. What they've done is to thin out the skills list and make it more workable. The basic rules are the same as the older d20 game but they've tried to streamline the entire system. In fact, the SAGA version of the rules is considered to be more of a D&D pre-4E by many in the industry. The rulebooks are a funky size, however, being shorter than most 8.5x11" rulebooks.

Of course, if you're not into d20 it won't really matter which edition you go with -- If I run a SW RPG again it'll probably be some sort of "home brew" using another game system, such as Castles & Crusades since the rules are easier to work with.

Hope that helps.
