View Full Version : Suggestion: Reputation Points Notification

Ok is there anyway to have notification of rep points like we have for pm's at the top of the page?

Blizzard
02-24-2008, 03:38 PM
Uh, no, reps are not that important. Is it too hard to click User CP? :P

Cassus Fett
02-24-2008, 06:15 PM
No but i find myself going there alot more than i need to.

Blizzard
02-24-2008, 06:22 PM
Why would you need to check it so much? Reps shouldn't be comments to one another. That's what the board and the PMs are for.

Darth Massacrus

Bad idea: An email notification is sent to our specified address every time we give rep and every time we receive rep.

Better idea: counters that tell us what percentage of our rep is from who. EX: what percentage of rep received by person x is from person y.

Blizzard
02-25-2008, 01:20 AM
Something like that wouldn't be accurate. Someone might give you three reps, but the value they give is low, then I could give you one rep and the points may be triple what they give. The points everyone gives changes every day, so that's pretty irrelevant. Fifteen different Senators gave you rep in the last month, only a couple gave you two or three, so it's pretty easy to see that in your User CP.

I'm kinda with Cassus on this one.

Maybe not an Email notification; but, something on the GS when we log in that says

"Congrats you've received a reputation point!" or just something near the Private Message notification; maybe the reputation point square can be there as a symbol that you've just received one.

It's ok if you tell me know Blizzie I still love you

Blizzard

LOL Rag, love you, too. When vBulletin invents something like that we will update. Until then you'll have to make your suggestions to vBulletin. We can't alter their software.

What about having a counter that can tell us how many reps we've given/received overall?

Can we at least Give reps for something other than post; like the highscore in the aracade? or a very nice PM?

Jedi Master Harrison

I thought we were never gonna discuss our special PM's in public?

JackBauer24

I think rep in the arcade would be dangerous. I, for one, would be giving a lot of neg rep to the nasty **********ers who beat my high scores....

Orandhite
03-18-2008, 10:24 AM
What high scores?

I think we should have some sort of operation set up that rep points somehow translate to $$ earned, so that the more rep you get, the more money you earn, like pay-per-click advertising. It would truly inspire posters to put forth more effort in writing rep-worthy posts, don't you think?

Yeah, I like this concept. Have no clue how to make it work, but somebody should figure out a way to do it.

JackBauer24
03-19-2008, 02:38 PM
Well, I think that the Senate should have a Board Shop. I've seen it used on other forums and it's a lot of fun.

Tovor
03-19-2008, 06:48 PM
A Board Shop? What is that?

JackBauer24
03-19-2008, 07:58 PM
It's where you can buy fun little perks for the board. You get a certain amount of board money per post. Then, you take this board money to the board shop (like the arcade, it's a separate part of the board), where you can buy stuff like gifts to give other board members, special perks like being able to change your name, or sometimes fun tricks you can play on other board members. It's really only limited to the imagination of the Admin and whoever creates the board.

Kommandant Felix
04-01-2008, 05:14 AM
I think it's a good idea! It would really push for reputation giving, as well as good, thoughtful posts. Besides, it also gives something to strive for here, something that gives us a sense of accomplishment, beyond moving one step up on the ranks of rep.

Grand Admiral Thrawn
04-07-2008, 11:18 PM
I second the idea that it would be neat to have a feature like UNDER the Reputation Points section of the User CP that shows the points we've GIVEN to people. So the same thing as what we have already, but in reverse, showing what/who we've GIVEN points to.

Grand Admiral Thrawn
04-07-2008, 11:26 PM
Also, I wanted to ask: how many points is in a rep point? Because I know the amount of points I have doesn't match up with the number of reputation points I have.

Blizzard
04-08-2008, 12:11 AM
Huh? One rep point it one rep point. Are you asking how many points you give at a time? It changes daily.

Like this:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a125/JoeHarrison/reps.jpg

It says I have 6,292 points total (upper right-hand corner), however I only see about 28 listed (left, within the long red circle-note this isn't showing all 28 because the picture would have been too big). So I figured one Reputation Point must equal like 230 points or something... Unless I'm just totally misunderstanding how this works.

When I give someone Rep points and I click the little symbol, all I see is "I Approve" or "I don't Approve" and "Leave a Comment." I didn't see anything about choosing how many points to give...

Blizzard
04-08-2008, 02:16 AM
You can't choose. Did you read the announcement I posted?

How many you give depends on how many posts you have and how many rep points others have given you. So it goes up every day. Red would be someone taking your points away. Gray would mean someone is new and cannot yet give points because they don't have 50 posts yet. Green means you got points, but even the giver does not know how many they gave you.

You currently give 26 points with each comment.
I currently give 660 points with each comment.

Tomorrow it will be more. Does that help?

Grand Admiral Thrawn
04-08-2008, 02:22 AM
Ah! Okay I get it. Thanks, Blizz.

Darill Cyllem
04-13-2008, 03:17 PM
And Thrawn, in case of remaining confusion, only the last few reps you've received show up in your User CP. As you get new ones, the older ones get bumped off the list - the points total is your accumulated points, regardless of which recent reps are shown below. :)

JackBauer24

^ only the mods can check that.

Grand Admiral Thrawn
07-10-2008, 05:37 PM
I was just thinking, it would be neat if you could simply give rep points to someone any way, and not just via one of their posts.

The reason I say this is that sometimes I get rep points for a post I made, but the person who gave me points does not actually reply to the post, so I can't give them any "thanks"-reps.

Oh well. Just storm-braining.

Blizzard
07-10-2008, 05:55 PM
Yeah, that part sucks, but then rep thank yous might be expected. You can always tell them thank you and reply on their profile page.

JackBauer24
07-10-2008, 06:02 PM
^ yep, then you thank them for thanking you for your rep, then they thank you for thanking them for thanking you for your rep...pretty soon, everyone would have billions of rep points and be constantly repping one another!

Plus, my head would explode.
