View Full Version : When will people get that there will be no 7, 8, 9?

I was reading over at IMDB to see when the SW tv series might begin and there was a thread that was posted called"what if the tv series is just a cover up for 7, 8, 9?"

you can read this here. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458291/board/nest/77507326

I'm like, when are you people gonna get it through your heads that it will never happen and that supershadow is an idiot?

I voted 'no', people will never get over it! Personally, I know full well there won't be (and I don't believe any daft current rumours), but that doesn't stop me, in the back of my mind, hoping there will be. After all, we were told by the master himself that there would be 9 films.

To my mind, you have the biggest fanbase of any set of films in the world, you already make millions through merchandising etc. You could have the largest budget films ever, continue to push boundaries in film making and give the audience what it wants - more SW films! There is no feeling that any film has ever given me like SW and like any good addict, I want more.

I do think however that the 'original' SW story has been told, so you either have to go back or forward in history and tell other stories. TV series could be used to fill in smaller adventures. Hell, I'm probably dreaming, but I defy anyone to come in here and tell me that they don't want any more SW!

I agree. I want more SW too. I can't wait for the tv series and what stories will be told in that.

Super Shadow is a god among men... his word is the law... if he says he french kissed GL then I believe him and GL can't convince me otherwise... oh wait... scratch that... Psycho is as Psycho does.

No, they won't. Even if they agree that there won't be 7, 8 and 9, one part of them pray for new movies.

Kapit

They'll stop believing it once Lucas's kids run out of money and decide to use what's left to finance a new trilogy written by Paul WS Anderson and directed by Uwe Boll.

That's quite logical as well.

They won't stop believing it until they don't actually see it. Seriously though, so many fans want 7,8, & 9, and will never believe it won't happen. Maybe they'll conceded that the chances are very slim, but they won't eliminate all hope.
Lucas is to blame for this, of course, due to his original 12 film plan that he spoke of in the late 70's. That, of course, quickly became slimmed down to 9 films, and once ESB becmae such a pain in the ass to make, he started to talk about 9 films less and less to the point where he pratically denies ever having that many films planned.
The problem is that once he decided to make the films about Anakin's rise and fall and redemption, he, in essence, destroyed the story for a possible 7,8, & 9.
All of that said, even I haven't given up all hope for more films. I can envision a day, a couple of decades from now, once Lucas is either completely done with filmmaking or dead, that a different filmmaker takes over the reigns. Someone like a Peter Jackson, maybe?

Kapit

Someone like a Peter Jackson, maybe?

Yeah, he'll turn the Thrawn trilogy into a 12-hour hike to Mount Tantiss, with plenty of time to sing songs and chew on some glitterstim.

Damn you for suggesting it, Rolla!

EDIT: BTW, that is not a good scenario

RollaFett

Hey, I'm not saying it would work great, but he's the one person I can see Lucas handing over the reigns to, if he ever did such a thing.

I'd see him trying to hand it off to Spielberg or Coppola or Scorcese before Jackson.

Not that any of those four would even touch it :P

RollaFett
12-14-2007, 04:10 PM
Those names make sense when you consider how close they all are. I mention Jackson, though, because of age. In my scenario, Lucas is either dead or retired. I'm also assuming that all of those other filmmakers would be in the same situation, considering that they are all getting up there in age.

Morridini
12-14-2007, 04:23 PM
Yeah we should rather talk about the younger filmakers, not other Ancients. However I don't know the name of many younger filmmakers...

Kapit
12-14-2007, 04:27 PM
I really don't think there are any young filmmakers (that I know of offhand) that could handle a saga like this.

Most likely it'll be some director who was 10 when TPM came out and absolutely loves the PT

RollaFett
12-14-2007, 04:53 PM
Could be. I think Jackson could handle it. Also, what about Guillermo del Toro?

Jedi Master Harrison
12-14-2007, 05:53 PM
Quentin Tatantino for the dialogue! Mind you, that would cut out half the SW audience, those under 18!

Javen
12-14-2007, 06:09 PM
If the dialogue would be anything like Death Proof. I'll use earplugs. boooorrrringgg...

Lucas should make my SW book series into 7, 8, and 9.

Sarah-Leia
12-15-2007, 10:17 AM
Lucas should accept that making 7,8,9 would completely destroy SW's reputation as the greatest films ever just as what happened with TPM.

Jedi Master Harrison
12-15-2007, 08:56 PM
People should be forced to watch TPM time and time again, each time you watch it, you'll find less fault with it. Faith my young padawan, more SW films could be great! :w00t:

Solo
12-17-2007, 06:26 AM
^I agree. However there will always be the risk of destroying the reputation of the old films as well.

There has to be Star Wars 7, 8, and 9. How else will Mark Hamill ever revive his career?

Solo
12-17-2007, 07:00 AM
I'm sure they'll shoot Star Wars 0, -1 and -2 first, so Mark Hamill won't have a role in them.

Morridini
12-17-2007, 07:05 AM
Wouldn't that be Star Wars -2, -1 and 0?

Orandhite
12-17-2007, 07:06 AM
That depends if Nolan directs and does them like Memento! ;)

Actually, Nolan would probably make Star Wars badass! Let's get him to do them!

Solo
12-17-2007, 07:10 AM
We should clone some people who had key roles in OT. :nahnah: Than we can shoot as many SW movies as we can. What about that?

I bagsy the Slave Leia clones.

He destroyed the whole franchise with TPM? come on...

Morridini
12-19-2007, 02:36 AM
Over half of the people at this forum wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the PT, so it definitley didn't "destroy SW".

Solo
12-19-2007, 02:48 AM
That may be true, because I joined GS after PT. However, some people, who saw OT long before PT, could not find the old Star Wars spirit which caught them when they first saw OT. I am not saying that PT is a group of bad movies, but in my opinion OT was much better than PT.

Morridini
12-19-2007, 03:43 AM
I too am an OT fan, and love them a billion times more then the PT, however I enjoy the PT as well, but the fact remains that TPM was the first SW movie I had seen, and it was first after that one that I borrowed SW IV-VI and became the fan I am today.

Solo
12-19-2007, 03:47 AM
Well, I watched OT first. I watched them on VHS. Then I saw OT on the cinema, you know some time before the PT. May be that is why I am an OT fan. Anyway, I guess we are leaving the topic of this thread.

RollaFett
12-19-2007, 05:15 PM

Watch any MST3K movie unedited and rethink that statement. TPM may not feel that great to you, but there are a lot of movies that are extremely lower quality than TPM.

Solo
12-27-2007, 02:25 AM
IMO, the biggest mistake people are making is comparing a trio of really good movies (PT) with a trio of legendary movies (OT). When you compare PT with non-Star Wars movies of their time, they are really good.

Kapit
12-27-2007, 03:53 AM
oh yeah, compared to most of the s**t that's out there now, the PT is easily an amazing trio of movies

I mean, one of the most popular movies of this summer was "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry."

Please, someone come here and tell me that the PT was WORSE than "Chuck and Larry." I dare you.

Tovor
12-27-2007, 04:36 AM
Chuck and Larry had Jessica Beil's sweet tush bouncing in a bikini, along with the rest of her amazing body on display in that delightful scene.

Case closed.

^ Can't argue with that.

oh yeah, compared to most of the s**t that's out there now, the PT is easily an amazing trio of movies

The only things good about the PT are the CGI and the score. Everything else to me was just really disappointing. The story wasn't very good, the characters weren't even interesting, with the exception of Palps, the acting was, well, I could probably do better. But my biggest annoyance (and this may sound stupid to some) is the sound, when I have this on at home with surround sound on it's absolutely lifeless, which is the same for the OT and thats bull coming from a company like Lucasfilm.

As for 7, 8 and 9, lets hope not. I'm satisfied with the OT.

Kapit
12-27-2007, 04:33 PM
Still, can anyone honestly say the PT is worse than "Big Momma's House 2" or "Norbit"

No.

No.

That's hardly competition. As much as you don't like the LotR's trilogy, Kapit, it is far superior to the PT except for one category, CGI.

Kapit
12-28-2007, 01:08 AM
LOTR is also superior in:

Walking.
Sleepiness.
Short people.
Overall lack of anyone doing anything but walking.

Did I mention walking?

While I'm no fan of LOTR either, I can easily see that they are well made films. Boring, tedious, and long, to be sure, but certainly well made. That said, I would never say that they are far superior to the PT. As hard as it may be to believe for some, there are people out there that really don't care LOTR at all.

Although there may never be another SW movie you can't take the hope from the people I mean people want another movie to be made, they see it as that Lucas left them hanging, His loyal SW fans can't give up hope because they expect so much more out of him.
