So who here is going to go get some deals tomorrow? I'm going to find deals online instead. Ahhhh...the beauty of the internet. In fact at midnight I will be able to beat those crazy shoppers who stand in line for the stores to open.

Its just called that because they slash prices down. Dumb name, true.

I always thought it was because they slashed prices and opened ridiculously early, resulting in all the bargain hunters and Christmas commandos wreaking havoc on the retail establishments in their frenzied efforts to (a) get the best bargain while (b) beating the competition (other shoppers) to the punch, or purchase, as the case may be. (From after-action reports I've seen, both are real possibilities in some locations.)

Thought the term had its origin with the retail clerks who deal with the frontline mayhem on BF, and spread into general use from there.

And, no, I have no intention of going anywhere near a brick-and-mortar retailer until after the first of next week, and have no pressing holiday-driven need to do so, because...I've just about got the Xmas shopping all wrapped up, pun more or less intended, and will wrap up the rest via the internet shortly. :yoda:

I dislike shopping, as a rule, even on Fridays that are somewhat gray.

I am cozy at home. :)

Black Friday's a retail term for when they start making money for the year...

"Black Friday" was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, although most contemporary uses of the term refer instead to it as the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (i.e., turning a profit).

I got a few deals this morning... and the lines were good.

I thought it was because you have to fight old ladies for the sale items until someone is black and blue.

Well it use to be called Black 'N' Blue Friday but it just didn't have the same ring as Back Friday.

The only thing I shall go out to pick up today is my Dad at the airport, so, unless they're offering a Black Friday parking deal down there...not me.

I suppose I might find something online, though. If I go a-looking.

The news here was interviewing people and apparently it was really not a big Black Friday... most stores were busy, but nowhere near the past and relatively quiet considering... I think the reasons are pretty obvious :(

Same here. There were more people at the movie theaters than the stores. I didn't even have to wait in line for anything at Walmart today.
