View Full Version : The Survey Problem

I generally do not venture into the Interrogation Room, and for good reason. I was just sitting at my computer, looking blankly at the GS home page when the urge struck me to check out the IR to see if there was something interesting... and what do I find? A steady stream of pointless, mundane, lethargic questions.

What's the last flick you watched?
What are you doing now?
What did you have for breakfast this morning?
What are you thinking right now?
What's the last food you ate?
What's the last item you bought?
What's the last drink you drank?
What's the last thing you said?
What are you wearing right now?
What's the last thing you watched on TV?
What's the last thing you listened to?
What SHOULD you be doing right now?
What color do you think smells the best...?

Come on, guys. A little repetetive, don't you think?

And yes, I realize that "surveys" should not have an apostrophe in it.

Some of them don't interest me, i must say, but if others enjoy them i absolutely don't mind them being there. Others i like: the "last flick you watched," "last book you read," are usually interesting for me - i sometimes get ideas for movies to watch or books to read. I'm sometimes amused by "last thing you said," "what are you thinking," and "what do you wish."

So, the moral of the story is, it would seem: different strokes for different folks. Participate in the surveys you think are fun and stay away from the ones that annoy you.

Ironically, when I created the "What Are You Doing Now?" and "What Are You Thinking Now?" surveys, they were meant as a joke, a play on the other mindless surveys, and I hadn't expected people to enjoy them and push them to last as long as they have. They were actually meant to make jest of the fact that there are surveys about anything and everything. So in answer to the question posed here, I do think that they are out of control and at times pointless; and that new, thought-provoking surveys should be devised soon and very soon.

Wait a minute here...Greedo Boy himself, inventer of the "Off-Topic Thread" and other mindless threads, is actually griping about mindless threads? What sort of experiments have been done on his intellect in the time of his hiatus from the boards?

I don't see anything wrong with taking an interest in other people's lives, what they are up to etc. It can be quite fun. They're only mundane if people write mundane answers. I'd say I've learnt a fair amount about my fellow Senators and also some different cultures/ideas reading those threads.

If people can think of more fun surveys then all well and good, but why go into the section if you don't like it? It seems to me that it is one of the most posted in sections, so at least it's seeing some action at a time when the place seems pretty quiet. What do you have in mind that in your opinion would be more interesting?

Cruel, cruel and unusual abnormalities of experimentations that have stretched and twisted my psyche beyond recognition...

I would like to debate the Truth of Muffins.

I want to promote my new pointless survey, for the sake of making a point about why some surveys are pointless, leaving the pointless survey with a point after all.

I like pancakes, as well as the Last Flick thread, which keeps people informed on what we like as movie fans.

I don't know why my What Body Part Did You Have an Itch on Last survey isn't more popular. I thought it would be a sure-fire hit. :scratchchin:

I like pancakes and I like reading surveys, even if they do not make much sense.

Come on people, there isn't a law saying everything in life must have a purpose. I like reading many of those meaningless surveys. You can find many amusing posts in them.

Ah...yes. I like pancakes...and those particularly ridiculous responses to these polls. But as for surveys...I really don't mind. It does get my post count up.

Mmmmmmm, pancakes!

Really GB, who cares. The rule here is "let em have fun". As long as no one starts one called "Who Likes Corn" we are fine.

Hey! I do like corn! What's the harm in starting a thread called, "I like Corn!"?

Anyways, I'll keep an "ear" out.

Because it's a joke. Some idiot started a thread called "Who Likes Corn" on the SW Official site way back when. You like corn, go eat over there. Y'all aren't doing it here.
