Technically, they aren't on my computer. I keep my laptop (which only has an 80 GB HD) mostly free of clutter. However, I have two 500 GB SimpleTech external USB drives (one for unessential programs and games, the other for pictures, music, video, ect). Whenever I find an image online that I like, I simply save it in the best quality possible to my external drive, usually without subfolders. Currently, the drive I use for media has only 247 GB of space left, meaning that when I need to find, for example, Rare OT Production Photos, I have to sort through almost 250 GB worth of files because things are just that disorganized. Your method of organization is far better than mine, Sluggo.

In the Star Destroyer prototype models, is there a resemblance to World War 2 battleships and destroyers, or am I seeing things?
But yeah, I wonder how many 'new' Lucas ideas have been around gathering dust in the LucasFilm archives....

Now this will make some people wish they had a time machine:
below is an image supposedly taken in late 1977 near a trash heap behind Elstree Studios. It is a small stack of X-Wing lasers. They were just left there, eventually to be hauled away. In that time, anyone could have acquired them (they were just gathering dust and rust). Now how many people wish they had that time machine handy?

It's there, I definately saw the resemblance right away. It makes me wonder why they didn't use something similar to that look in the ROTS destroyers.

Landspeeder, you say, huh? Yeah, I can see that. Especially with the color scheme. That said, the shape definately had to have inspired the TF destroyer.
And no, I didn't know that last tidbit. Which ship? Can you post a pic?

You're not seeing things. The only main difference would be where the superstructure is placed. Most modern naval vessels have their superstructure more centrally located.

Anybody spot the picture of Greedo in drag? (hint. GL has a bit of a foot fetish)
Sluggo
10-08-2007, 07:26 PM
Oh, yeah. George had actor Paul Blake play Greedo in the original filming in England. Some of the close-ups of Greedo didn't look so great (it was just Blake shouting his lines through his mask) so during the re-shoots of early '77, George had actress Maria Aragon (sp.) play Greedo with reworked gloves and a semi-articulate mouth.

If memory serves (and at my age it probably doesn't), I think that the Mon Calimari ship design came from an idea by GL. He suggested the initial look and the ILM boys went from there. I think that they referred to it as the "pickle ship" because it sort of resembles a pickle. Does anyone else remember something like this from early ROTJ interviews?

From the EU I can remember about their design is that the Calamari cruisers used to be passenger starliners that the Alliance converted into warships.

I remember exactly what you said about it being called the pickle ship by the ILM people. I also remember that the sfx crew disliked the ship during filming, because it was difficult to light properly due to the lack of angles and all the bumps. That's all that I can recall though.

From a certain point of view. It requires that one consider Luke a padawan, rather than a padawannabe...

Well considering that he became a jedi knight in the films, he would have been Yoda's padawan.

10-22-2007, 04:13 PM
Well considering that he became a jedi knight in the films, he would have been Yoda's padawan.
Are you sure he became a Jedi? Compare Luke to the Jedi in the Prequels. I think that, "Already know you, that which you need," and "Only then a Jedi will you be," were Yoda saying, "Get outta here, kid, ya bodder me. Lemme die in peace already."
Also: Yoda said, not that Luke would be a Jedi Knight, but only "a Jedi": coulda been, easily, that he was offering the lad a promotion from clueless rank amateur to Padawan.
Are you sure? Only Obi Wan was in the room holding Padme's hand. Yoda may not wanted to watch her die. He could have wanted to avoid diaper duty so never actually saw Luke.
Three points. 1) Mr. "Miss them, do not; Mourn them, do not" was going to be whacked out by a death in childbirth? 2) Yoda was obviously comfortable with children, since he instructed them in the temple. 3) With the Force as your ally, diaper duty likely much easier is, and less feared.
So, I would say, Master Yoda definitely saw Luke on that asteroid. He may even have tickled him under the chin and said, "koochie koo." Or, with Yoda, would that have been, "koo koochie"? :yoda:

On the reply page scroll down to the 'Manage Attachments' button and uploads the pics from your comp. They will automatically show up as thumbnails.

A lot of people have asked where I get these images from. The most common source for me is www.starwarsarchives.com
This site has extensive SW images, film clips, artwork, ect from the years 1974-1986. However, it is a Flash-based site, half the images cannot be right clicked on or opened in a separate window/tab (so they can be saved), and there are occasional technical issues. But the sheer volume of rare and interesting content pretty much makes up for any of that. If you see any images you really like, post them here for all to see.:yoda:
oh, Google is also a good source of info, too...

It is worth noting that the costume dept used one of the yellow space suits worn by a cantina background character (the spacer with the helmet) and added a sauron alien head to make the bounty hunter Bossk for the Empire Strikes Back.

That is exactly what I meant. People were more creative in those days. I watched a TV show about how they made sets for science fiction movies during 80's. People created fascinating stuff with models and different camera angles. They came up with brilliant ideas to solve problems.
