Say you're going to have a lavish dinner party with 10 guests; 10 famous celebrities or historical figures, alive or dead; who would they be?
No movie characters. Only real people, famous celebrities and/or historical figures, past or present, alive or dead (but actually alive at the dinner party itself). It can also be artists, explorers, philosophers, etc; so long as they were famous or historical.
I'm thinking about my list. Get back to you in a while about that. :scratchchin:

Alan Rickman - So I could feel his knee under the table and have all manner of delightful misunderstandings.
Guy Fawkes - So we could discuss the problems of damp Gun Powder and all things big bada boom
Jeremy Bulloch - for obvious Fett reasons and because he's actually a witty and charming man who I think would provide good table conversation.
Dita Von Teese - She could provide the floorshow with her Martini Glass act.
The Marquis de Sade - For a bit of rudeness to spice up the lulls in conversation with a risque joke or two.
Johnny Depp - For obvious perving reasons and because he seems like a good laugh and I reckon he wouldn't miss a dinner party like this for the world.
Ingmar Bergman - For some film talk and laughs.
Alison Goldfrapp - Because I want a little glamour there and she could give us a little song, and some conversation about art and music.
Maggie Smith - For fascinating conversation and she has a wicked sense of humour.
Robert Tannahill - A scottish poet, a bit of a lad and great for a dance.
That'd do me nicely I think!

John Lennon -- Obvious choice
George Harrison -- Yet another obvious choice
George Lucas -- I'm gonna give him food so that he'll give me ILM
Steven Spielberg -- He's gotta have something interesting to say, right?
Kevin Smith -- He's hilarious, and I'd like to learn more about how he just made a movie with some friends and ended up creating an entire universe as well as becoming famous
Matt Groening -- I'd love to talk Simpsons and Futurama with him
Dan Castellaneta -- I'd love to talk about voice-over work
Billy West -- I'd love to talk about voice-over work
I can't think of another two yet...

This is my anthropology nerd list, so will say a few words about who they are. I included only people I haven't met.
Jane Goodall (chimp behavioral research and conservation)
Diane Fossey (gorilla behavioral research and conservation)
Birute Galdikas (orangutan behavioral research and conservation)
Louis and Mary Leakey (paleanthropologists, and Louis was a bit of a nutter)
Richard Wrangham (another chimp behavioral researcher - very interesting man)
Richard Kay (NSF program director for my field - would like to butter him up)
Stephen Jay Gould (smarty pants evolutionary theorist)
Elizabeth Watts (was also interested in primate development)
Brian Shea (another primate skeletons and growth guy)
Jedi Master Harrison

^ You don't mind if I miss that dinner party do you?! :nahnah:
I'd go for (off the top of my head, no great thought gone into it):
Bono from U2, one of the few celebs I admire
Pele, the best footballer on Earth ever (and did he really have erectile disfunction?!)
Jenna Jameson, it'd be interesting to know more about that business and maybe she could provide the after dinner entertainment
George Lucas, just cos then he'd have to listen to my SW views
Natalie Portman, why not (assuming Scarlett Johansson was busy that night)?! :like:
Hitler
Osama Bin Laden (so I could find out what the 2 di'kuts were thinking and then beat it out of them)
Einstein
Leonardo Da Vinci (all to provide the more stimulating conversation before Jenna did her thing)
Paul Whitehouse, just because he's funny as.....anything.

You do know that the title says Celebritites, don't you? Just pointing out a painfully annoying mistake.

1- Kevin Smith - My favorite filmmaker, and kind of a hero to me.
2- Robert B. Parker - My favorite author.
3- George Lucas - 'Nuff said.
4- John Cusack - He's in so many films I love, and seems like a cool cat.
5- Muhammad Ali - May sound mean, but pre-Parkinson's disease. He just seemed like he was almost too much fun.
6- Sandra Bullock - I've seen her in a few TV interviews, and besides being damn good looking, she also seems really funny.
7- John McEnroe - A sports hero of mine, and sure to entertaining.
8- Althea Gibson - First black tennis player (male or female) to win a Grand Slam tennis event. Not enough people, including me, know enough about her.
9- Samuel L. Jackson - Are you kidding me? Of course he's gotta be there.
10- Natalie Portman - So many hot chicks to choose from. I'll go with one who seems to have brains as well. Damn, now I sound pretentious. Is it too late to say Pam Anderson?

Rolla, you mention of Ali (I agree, pre-parkinsons he always appeared fun and jovial in his banter, always witty, outgoing, and charming) made me recall Terry Bradshaw, who seems like a lot of fun to have be in a conversation with. He may be in one of my lists I submit next.
