Back on the old GalacticSenate.com, we'd set up an entire separate board for the Star Wars Timeline Gold (http://www.starwarz.com/timeline/) over at StarWarz. While it worked nicely, it was a bit of overkill, and it tended to be mainly the staff and a few others posting. So, hopefully by confining related discussion to one thread this time, we can conserve space but still keep up any necessary discussion and updates.
And, speaking of updates, here's the first:
The SWT-G17 (May release) is scheduled for release on May 16, right along with AOTC. Until then, the SWT-G16 from April will remain the most current version available.

Fixed several entries due to new information obtained from Attack of the Clones
Fixed problems from transposing the NJO Jedi Listing from Brien’s original file to Appendices file
There'll be more by the time of the release, but so far, that's what it looks like. I fully intend to also get information for Tempest Feud added as well, but that depends on how fast I can read through it.
Until then, feel free to drop by http://www.starwarz.com/timeline/ for a visit, or drop any feedback here. It's always welcome.
(And hopefully the two Research Assistants, Brien and Andrew, will be joining us shortly.)

Well, Nathan was right, Brien is joining up now soon... soon meaning now. *style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
For those who don't know me (which, I'm quite sure, is a lot of people), I am Brien Bell, newest Research Assistant to Nathan Butler's Star Wars Timeline Gold. I go by the name of James T. Skywalker just about everywhere, including the Official Site's Community Forums.
My job at the Star Wars Timeline Gold (http://www.starwarz.com/timeline) is to provide listings for the recently added Appendices files, as well as generally help Nathan with discussion concerning continuity, recent publications, or general nonsensical Star Wars banter.
I look forward to relaying information on my projects from Nathan to you, or whatever. Glad to be here, and MTFBWY!

Excellent. That's 2/3 of us now. I'm hoping Andrew can get us his "Best of..." by next release, but I haven't heard from him.

News:
It's unusual for the SWT-G to get media mentions outside of just fans commenting. But, it looks like 2 (or 3, depending on POV) media mentions for the SWT Project in the last month or so.
1.) The New Essential Guide to Characters: Dan Wallace adds me and the "resource" I've created (the SWT, unless he's looking in my closet or under my bed or something) in the acknowledgements, along with several other fan-resource creators.
2.) Somewhat tangential: An interview I gave leads off the Fan Film chapter in Will Brooker's Using the Force.
3.) Probably the most amusing: The newest edition of Digital Llama Radio (http://www.theforce.net/theater/radio/) (which will be up at that link in a day or so) had me on as a guest, and we had a quick moment to make a mention of the SWT while discussing Broken Allegiance.
I'm pretty excited. Three "big" (well, to me) mentions in a month after about five years of work on the project. Now, it'll be another five until another mention.

You know I've spent a lot of time doing my own timeline for my personal collection as know one time line suits my needs. None I've found anyway. I'm only interested in one which puts the books and DH comics in order, nothing else. So therefore I can check off the ones I own. It's taken me weeks to do one with all the official and non-official sites disagreeing many times and contradicting each other. It's a pain and you have my respect for attemtping a large one like yours.

That shouldn't be too bad, unless you're trying to work in the non-DH comics (like the Marvel series), or trying to separate out the stories in Star Wars Tales. The Dark Horse website does a decent job at that. The books and novels are a bit more difficult because of differing companies, but the internal Rebel Dream timeline does a decent job of it, then it's just a matter of working in those published by Schoolastic, which are fairly self-explanatory.

I wish I could still say "weeks." Heh.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>It's a pain and you have my respect for attemtping a large one like yours.
Yep, quite a pain. But, as I'm sure you're figuring out, it's a pain in spurts. You work a lot when there's a lot to do, but once you get caught up, you pick up a decent pace and it only demands extreme attention again on months like these, when there are many new publications.
Thanks for the comments.

Alright, ladies and gents, the new release has just been uploaded (the SWT-G17 for May 2002). Along with this new info-filled release (coming in at 1,048 total pages), I'm also prepping (for tomorrow!) the first-ever episode of ChronoRadio, an EU-based talk radio style show as a companion for the timeline.
I hope you enjoy them, and I'd welcome any feedback you might have.
Just follow the link in my signature.

Alright, update:
First, thanks to those few who have commented on ChronoRadio. It looks like I'll be continuing the program.
Second, one might note that both Second Strike and ChronoRadio will soon be being hosted, at least in part, by FanFilmFX.com, so be watching for when that change takes place. The downloads should go MUCH faster.

Update: No, we won't be hosting the files on FanFilmFX, but...
As of now, the SWT-G18 and second episode of ChronoRadio are available for download.

Wow Gatherer, this is like the second time I've seen you without the colors! Crazy. :hehe:
Anyway, about the timeline. I was reading through it the past few days and noticed you consider Galactic Battlegrounds Apocryphal. Why is this exactly? I know the nature of the game kind of takes away from continuity, but the characters and plot shouldn't, nor the information from the in-game Databank. Thanks.
Nathan Butler
06-10-2002, 03:18 PM
That's precisely why, actually. It's the same as, say, X-wing. One cannot consider the entire X-wing game Official while the game itself leads one to believe that Keyan blows up the Death Star in that story. The same goes for Rebel Assault's final level, or the Battle of Calamari level of Rogue Squadron. LFL has done a pretty good job of taking these tales and finding ways to twist them to they somewhat work, but in every case they've done so, it's been by altering the original source's events. The events we see covered in GB that were covered elsewhere don't take place in quite the same way, and thus far, LFL has deferred to the original sources of those battles as what takes precedence.
That being the case, the games themselves then have to take a step below the Official materials those were covered in. So, technically, the games themselves, if we have to keep them in or out as whole entities, cannot be included, but we can certainly include what information we glean about an Official version of those events from other OC materials like, say, the NEGtC.
We could always just cut the games apart, level by level, by what fits and what doesn't, but so far, everyone I've spoken with though my own contacts has assured me that the games are considered whole entities and dealt with as such. So, unless we create some kind of level between Official and Apocrypha, which the continuity folks don't have (theirs just has the normal 6 tiers, not 7), we can't do anything *but* drop GB and such into Apocrypha. There's nowhere in-between as of yet.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>One cannot consider the entire X-wing game Official while the game itself leads one to believe that Keyan blows up the Death Star in that story.
I thought you flew as Lando for that last mission. Which is why you're in the Falcon and have the call sign Gold Leader.
And most of the levels in Galatic Battlegrounds don't deal with much stuff from others sources. Some do, but for the most part they don't. Intresting, I always felt that the plot of the games I play takes as much presidence as a novel I read.
Maybe this is a future topic for ChronoRadio? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/exclamation.gif It seems you know more than a few people that think in a similar way as you do about what you've put in the timeline, and I know many people from TF.N's EU boards that would have thoughts similar to mine. . . and some who don't.
Anyways, thanks for the reply!

What I should really do is try to set up a time to have an in-depth discussion with my contact again, so I can sort of get an idea of how their logic has worked to see if maybe there's an unofficial sort of gray area starting to exist between the in- and out- of continuity materials, because there's been a lot of things being referenced recently that are only being referenced in their "things that work" segments, leaving out what doesn't. The Trioculus books, the Rogue Squadron game, etc. They keep being mentioned in passing, but only those parts that weren't the parts that kicked 'em out in the first place. It'd be interesting to see if we're seeing the creation of a sort of sublevel as we go along here . . .

CHRONORADIO: *QUESTIONS FOR FUTURE EPISODES
Okay, ladies and gents, as promised in ChronoRadio #2, here are the topics being dealt with for future episodes. Any comments are welcome, and all current responses are included herein:
TOPIC 1
The differences between Fan Fiction, Fan Films, "Slash," and how both fans and Lucasfilm have reacted to all three. Should LFL be discerning? Crack down? What about things like the AtomFilms awards from Celebration II that drew such controversy by not including fiction-based Fan Films?
LETO II (TFN): *As a law student, I am specializing in intellectual property law, and let me just say here that this is an area that Lucasfilm must exercise extreme caution in. Under current fair-use statutes, films of a satirical/humorous nature render Lucasfilm exempt from the need to pursue their rights in a court of law, but those set "in-universe" run the risk of being copyright-infringing. (Also, look no further than the whole "Phantom Edit" foofaraw of last summer. We went through some fun times with that, didn't we...??)
Lucasfilm, Ltd. would be forced to defend their copyright under such circumstances, unless exhibitors (such as AtomFilms.com) are specifically licensed to carry such programs. Something an aspiring fan-director might try to do is contact Lucasfilm on a case-by-case basis, if they are seeking some wider form of distribution, if only to obtain nominal clearance for broad viewing of their work without the fear of harassment down the road. They are usually rather understanding in these instances, and have only instigated lawsuits against those filmmakers who ran the risk of tarnishing the Lucas "family-friendly" image ("Starballz," for one).
TOPIC 2
The New Jedi Order, fan reactions. How has this new storyline changed how we look at SW? Has it opened up new doors, defaced the saga, or something in the middle?
CHISSDUDE10 (TFN): *Many fan's are disgusted at the latest story arc, but I find it a true piece of art and brillience of a fight for survival. This is the ultimate war, where freedom is not an option, rather of a destroction of culture, or victory over another. It has opened contless new doors, from the mysteriouse Yuuzhan Vong, to the awe inspiring presance of the force.
LETO II (TFN): *I'm going to have to admit something, here: I have only read one NJO story, Vector Prime. Yes, yes, I know, I'm going to have my epaulets stripped off and be ejected from the inner circle, but time is something that is at a premium in my life right now, and I pretty much have concentrated upon the prequel-era stories...tales that I'd been looking forward to seeing for years beforehand, so I'm ensconced there, presently.
Which is not to say I'm not looking forward to reading more in the NJO. I adore Vector, and was thrilled to hear that Bob Salvatore landed the Episode II novelization job, probably by George himself. So, one day, I'll be able to play catch-up ball, but this sort of prevents me from commenting more fully on its scope right now.
TALONCARD (TFN): *It's really stayed the same. In it's own way, the NJO is just as predictable, occasionally ridicules, and fun as the Bantam books.
WHUFFA (GS): *I think the NJO has done a lot of good. It has brought real tension to the EU. For the first time, fans are contemplating of this or that character is going to die. I think that's great.
It has also shook up things quite a bit and I can't wait to see what the GFFA will be like after the series.
TOPIC 3
The continuing case study of Boba and Jango Fett. Where have we heard ideas about his origins before? What did those sources say? How do they currently stack up? And so forth.
LETO II (TFN): *Prior to the current era of Boba Fett stories (the "Jaster Mareel" alias, Concord Dawn, et al), all that we had were the Marvel tales, with most of the accepted Mandalorian backstory coming out of them, but then Dark Horse took up the mantle circa 1994-95, and began publishing several new stories, introducing the now-controversial elements of Boba's history. (Notice how we all use "Boba" now, instead of "Fett," as we used to? More than one Mandalorian commando will do that to the fanbase.)
Now that George Lucas has introduced some new "wrinkles" to the Fett backstory, it has also created something of a schism within the fan-historian groups: some believe that it is now impossible to reconcile the two continuums into one coherent whole; others (myself included) actually welcome the new complexities, and lokok forward to integrating them into the greater fabric.
And the authors have risen to the challenge. We now have mini-series such as Jango Fett: Open Seasons, which are seamlessly melding together the Fett history, past and present, with the Marvel Mandalorian Shocktrooper storyline being woven together with the Jaster Mareel/Journeyman Protector cothurnus, as well as Lucas's own personal additions from the new films. It will be up to the fanbase to ultimately judge the successfulness of this whole endeavor, but as of right now, they appear to be doing a tremendous job.
TALONCARD (TFN): *Well, there's Marvel, where Boba Fett is a commanding officer of a group of
Mandalorian Supercommandos charged with the ultimate protection of Mandalore
during the Clone Wars. They fought in the Wars on the side of Palpatine,
and 212 commandos were killed in one of the last battles, leaving only three
survivors: Boba Fett, Tobi Dala, and Fenn Shysa.
In Dark Empire, Boba Fett is believed to be a stormtrooper who went rouge
and
killed his commanding officer.
In Tales of the Bounty Hunters, (which also backs up the Stomtrooper story)
Boba was once a Journeyman Protector called Jaster Mareel from the planet
Concord Dawn. He killed a fellow protector, and was exiled from the planet.
In Attack of the Clones, Boba Fett is a ten-year-old clone of the bounty
hunter Jango Fett.
As the New Essential Guide for Characters and Jango Fett: Open Seasons
explain, Jango Fett was born on Concord Dawn. His family was killed by a
splinter group of the Mandalorians (which are explained to be a group of
mercenaries) called Death Watch. Jango Fett was adopted into the ranks of
the Mandalorians by Journeyman Protector Jaster Mareel (who had, as you may
have guessed, killed a fellow protector.) This man became Jango's mentor,
and was later shot by a hunter named Montross, who took his armor (Jango
would later kill Montross, and take the armor back. The armor would
eventually be used by Boba Fett.) The Mandalorains were later hired by
corrupt governor, framed for a crime they did not commit, and destroyed by
the Jedi. Only Jango survived.
While this is a masterful baskstory, it's far from complete. It doesn't
take into account Boba's Marvel backstory, (although Shysa and Dala are
mentioned in the Essential Guide) and it appears Fett was known as Jaster
Mareel at some point, at least according to The Hutt Gambit. Furthermore,
the Imperial Academy and stormtroopers are mentioned in the Jaster Mareel
section of The Last One Standing, so that section of the story must apply to
Fett, rather than Mareel. So, I'm thinking that Boba's future will go
something like this:
20 or 18 BBY: A young Boba Fett is hired to command a new group of
Madalorain Supercommandos, this one charged with the ultimate protection of
Mandalore. They fight against the Separatists during the Clone Wars. In
one of the final battles of that conflict, 212 commandos were killed,
leaving only three survivors: Boba Fett, Tobi Dala, and Fenn Shysa.
18-17 BBY: Boba Fett is hired to infiltrate the ranks of Concord Dawn's law
enforcement program. He poses as Jaster's son, also named Jaster Mareel.
Over the course of a year, he becomes a Journeyman Protector. Boba
completes his assignment, and kills a fellow protector. He accepts another
assignment to infiltrate a group of storm troopers, but is caught before he
can leave the planet. A trial follows, and the pleader Irving Creel
convinces the government to exile Fett.
17 BBY: Boba Fett is hired by an Imperial officer on Cardia to infiltrate a
group of storm troopers, one of whom has been leaking information to the
Rebels. Boba is ordered to find and kill the informer. Posing as a storm
trooper, (an easy task for Boba, who is indistinguishable from the other
clones) Fett follows a trail of clues to a fellow trooper. All clues point
to him as the informer, but Boba in unconvinced. He kills the trooper
anyway, and accepts his pay from the commanding officer. Boba confronts him
with his suspicions-- he believes that the officer himself was the informer,
and hoped to further his career by catching a Rebel spy. The "informer"
Fett killed had been set up. The Imperial confesses-- the hunter was paid,
after all, so he saw no harm in doing so-- but Boba reminds him that he was
paid to find and kill the informer. He finishes the job, and leaves Cardia.
TOPIC 4
Purists vs. Completists/Inclusionists: *A War With Little Hope?
PURIST VS. INCLUSIONIST TOPICS
Suggestions from Leto II
TOPIC A
What are our various perspectives upon George Lucas's own conceptions and intentions for the Star Wars universe, and can these ideas be integrated with one another?
TOPIC B
How successful have the various other writers/creators been in interpreting Lucas's filmic vision?
TOPIC C
(For the inclusionists:) What are some of your favorite works, and what ultimately makes these pieces "official," to your mind?
TOPIC D
(For the purists:) What has been your experiences, if any, with the Expanded Universe, and why do you prefer the films over other Star Wars tales that are out there? (This question might be postponed in a debate until a smooth rapport between moderator and guests have been established, or it could work at the beginning, also.)
TOPIC E
Also, if you do not prefer reading them, what are the reasons? (Specific instances may be given, in this case.) Might there be a common middle ground for both sides to meet upon?
TOPIC F
Regarding the flamewars that have raged within the various online fora: What have been your experiences with these, and does there exist an underlying sentiment of hostility or disdain towards the Expanded Universe, according to your perspectives? What about your own?
TOPIC G
Have there been many, if any, peace initiatives or changes in contemplation within the debates you've participated? Were efforts to understand the opposite side's points-of-view successful, and did these influence or modify your own? (A very sociologically-tilted question, yes.)
TOPIC H
For all guests: Do you feel that the mythopoeic undercurrents present in the films are retained in the EU works, or in some more than others? Which do you feel better represent this flavor in the pantheon?
TOPIC I
What of the future directions to be taken by the EU? Has the New Jedi Order been a success in retaining the mythic grandeur of the movie series, or not? (More for the Inclusionists, probably.)
TOPIC J
How fully are the lines drawn in your minds regarding what is considered "true continuity," and what should be considered "apocrypha"? Are there certain works out there that virtually everyone agrees should be part of the continuity?
TOPIC K
Should each and every single work -- no matter how widely-known -- be inducted into the continuity, despite apparent contradictions? Is this a wise course of action, or should there exist a "baseline" canon of a more exclusionary nature?
TOPIC L
Specific pieces: Perhaps one segment of each show might be devoted to debating the canonicity of one individual work, with discussion of its relative merits and weaknesses within the greater SW universe being analyzed in some detail. This could be done either with a group of people, via solicited responses read on-air, or by you, the host.
TOPIC M
What role does or should Lucasfilm play in the development of official policy towards licensed stories? Has this worked out to this day, or have they fallen off-track?
TOPIC N
"The Great Canon Pronouncement Debate": Remember all of the wars that have revolved around the two conflicting statements by Chris Cerasi (of Lucasfilm Licensing) and Steve Sansweet, and the havoc it's caused to this very day in the groups? This might be an intriguing subject for discussion, or for an editorial, as many people hold different views on this thorny issue.

And, further responses from the Official Site's Books and Comics forum:
TOPIC I
Czulkang Lah (OS): *Not being very interested in Fan Productions (movies, stories...) in general, I would just say this: Either accept all Fan Productions, or none of them. Let them happen, though. It's nothing but beneficial to Lucasfilm.
Willox Karrde (OS): *I see no problem with fan film cause it's not like there amking money by making the movies and such and if they were then they risk a chance at getting sued by Lucasfilm and I'm sure that they don't want that. And about the Celebration II not including them they were pretty much saying we don't like you or you don't exist.(talking about the fanfilms)
TOPIC 2
Czulkang Lah (OS): *Now here is something I can talk about.
The NJO has certainly changed the way most fans look at SW, even if in small ways. A few examples, and maybe some gross exagerrations:
The Fan who's seen the movies, doen't care about EU: "Wha? Chewie's dead? Bull-####. Stupid books"
The fan who's read the EU, but ignores or hates the NJO: Bah, it never happened. Those idiots at Lucasfilm wrote stuff like that? They ruined the whole series!
I'm one of the other fans, the ones who wholeheartedly accept the NJO. It has its up and downs, like any series. But it's also a sort of cumulative coming-together of all things EU and all things SW: You get to see everyone again. Yes, Chewie and a few others died, but it was good. It shattered the illusion that all the SW characters were invincible. Jolly good show. And of course, I love the Vong.
Leggo my Lekku (OS): *Pardon the Star Trek analogy but the death of main characters is like being in the holodeck without the safety programs engaged! You never know what will happen or who's turn is up. It caused a lot of heartbreak to have Chewie and Anakin die. The story lines are more realistic, if that's possible in the EU.
.Flight (OS): *I have to say that I love the NJO. Unfortunately, since my library has a very limited stock of SW books, I read the first few NJO books out of order. So Chewie's death did not make as big an impact on me as it might have, having read about it in the subsequent books in the series before reading of the actual death. I can identify with readers who reacted rather...violently, though. His was a constant presence in the galaxy far, far away, and it had been eliminated. As Han Solo said, the galaxy doesn't seem as safe a place anymore. That's a good thing.
The NJO was a great idea from LFL. The story arc was very interesting and remains interesting even a few years after the first installment of the series. Obviously, not all of the books were of stellar quality, namely the James Luceno duology and the more recent Dark Journey; however, on the whole, I am very impressed. Some of the NJO books rank as my all-time favorite Star Wars books, such as Star by Star, Dark Tide I: Onslaught, and Aaron Allston's Rebel Stand duology. I really hope they finish the series off well. A poor ending would cast a dark shadow upon the entire series...
Willox Karrde (OS): *Well first they way it changes the way we look at the SW EU is basically because we see that it's more like normal life with ppl dying in a war cause all throughout the EU not many ppl have died well not any major character anyway, and with this new series it shows just how realistic a story could get. Also they ppl that read it become attached to certain filleds about the series and then the books become like a rollercoster of fellings for them. I personnaly think that it has opened new doors in the SW universe cause it brought us (the readers of the series) to think that yeah maybe they might not win maybe this is the end of them, maybe they finally met there match.
TOPIC 3
Czulkang Lah (OS): *Yeah, a few stories about Boba Fett:
a) He was Jaster Mereel, a Journeyman Protector form Concord Dawn that murdered a fellow Protector and was exiled.
b) He was a Stormtrooper who murdered his commanding officer.
c) He had the Slave 1 built at KDY.
Stupid-razzafragin-storm-causing-power outages-didn't-let-me-finish-my-thoughts...Rrr.
Anyway, about Boba Fett: Those three things I said, lemme explain:
A) About the Concord Dawn/Jaster Mereel thing. That was resolved by the New Guide to Characters, which said that Jaster was Jango's mentor. Old news.
B) The Stormtrooper thing. In Dark Empire 2, Palpatine's Dark-Side adepts meet with Fett and tell him,
"We know you were an Imperial Stormtrooper. We have proof you murdered your commanding officer."
Who knows, maybe it's true. Nothings in Fett's Ep.2 ast saying he didn't do this.
c) The Slave 1 thing. In the BHW, Kuat of Kuat remembers Fett having the ship bilt at KDY. Hey, maybe the origional was destroyed and he made a new one, same name. Then people wouldn't know that his ship could be destroyed. Then again, maybe there was an LFL mix-up.
Willox Karrde (OS): *Well I'm sure alot of ppl have heard about his supposed origins(Boba) and they think that they really knew who he is well was anfd now with Lucas brining boba into episode two it changes EVERYTHING we knew about him and i think that by the time that episode III is out that all the Boba story will fit together nicely since they ppl at Lucasbooks will be hard at work to fix any and all the gaps left after the movies release.

Alrighty. Episode III of ChronoRadio has been recorded. It'll be released when the next SWT-G is released, most likely next weekend or the week immediately thereafter.
What's covered in this one? The two main topics are the Fan Fiction vs. Fan Films vs. Slash vs. LFL, and current publishing trends in SW. The review is of Gamer, in relation to the Adventure Journals. And there's a special announcement about a special production coming as we get closer to the SWT Project's 5th Anniversary.

HOW TO JOIN THE SWT PROJECT TEAM
Right now, the Star Wars Timeline Project is about 3.5 months away from its 5th Anniversary. To commemorate this, several things are being worked on, but one of the things I'd like to get into for or by that time is to really kick up a couple of things that need to be done for the SWT-G that I may not have much time for in the near future.
Specifically, I'm wanting to beef up the Fan Fiction Supplement file to keep up with new FanFic stories posted on TFN Fan Fiction, TFN Comics, and TFN Fan Films, and to catch up that supplement to include everything listed at SWFanFilms.com and FanFix.com, which is a major task.
I'm also wanting to finally include a detailed, MLA or APA format bibliography in the Appendices file, which would include (obviously) author, title, date, publisher, and so forth, though not page numbers for articles.
In order to do this, I am most likely going to be required to bring in some additional help on the timeline. Andrew has been great at supplying odd tidbits about unpublished stories and providing hard-to-find scans, and Brien's been good at proofing, and both Brien and Czulkang Lah's lists have been great new additions, but I doubt any of them have much time for such tasks either.
So, I'm wanting to bring in people to work on those two major areas. I'm not certain what the individuals' titles would be as of yet, as it will depend on volume of assistance provided. However, if anyone's been interested in how they can join the project, even on a temporary basis, this would be the time to find out how.
Drop me an email at timeline@starwarz.com or post here if you're interested.

"Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me..."
Thanks Nathan. Anyways, what I really wanted to post was that I look forward to meeting and interaction with the newest members of the SWT-G Project Team, and I hope that many consider the offer which Nathan is presenting. It doesn't come around often, believe me, and I was very grateful (still am) to Nathan for bringing me on as an RA. It's a worthwhile experience, and whether or not the position is full RA or just a sideline researcher, it's a truly unique process working for a guy like Nathan.

Update: So far, I've had 3 takers on the new helper post. Nick Long is most likely going to be brought in for Fan Fiction Timelines, and Leto II from the TFN Lit board may come on for bibliography. I have another gent interested in helping, so I may set him on Fan Fiction while Nick does Fan Films.
Also, expect the next release of the SWT-G to come either tomorrow or Sunday, along with CR #3.

Alright, folks, it's a bit early in the month, but I'm happy to announce the release of this month's new Star Wars Timeline Gold 19 and ChronoRadio: Episode III. The new SWT-G is, of course, updated from last month's, and the new episode of CR covers several new topics, including trends in SW publishing and LFL's stance on Fan Films, Fan Fiction, and Slash.
I hope you enjoy them, and you'll find information in the SWT-G about what I'm looking toward in terms of adding new minor-capacity helpers to the project.
For the next ChronoRadio, the topic to chime in on is:
SW sites are known for being competitive at times, but in the resource-making community, be it seen in the case of the SWT-G, TimeTales, or whatnot, it seems that a spirit of cooperation and mutal support prevails. What examples of this have you seen? Why do you think this is? And so forth.

Nathan,
I just posted this at the OS board and though I would here too in order for you to see it faster.
I tried to download the Timeline Gold 19 but A)the site reports 18 as the current release and B)the link to the .doc format doesn't work.
I don't know if this is a problem on my end or what. You may already be aware of this issue, but I thought I would bring it to your attention.

Hello Nathan,
Quick comments about the online community in regards to resource creation and sharing, specifically timelines, ie: Timetales and SWT-G... I think that it boils down to mutual respect between people who share a common love for a certain aspect of the franchise... timelines, canon and continuity.
Basically, the reason that sharing works, is that it benefits the whole... by having a common knowledge bank between people, we all achieve by getting the most complete timelines out there, no matter what the flavour of the brand (Timetales, SWT-G).
Lastly, when officialdom sees us acting professionally between ourselves, then they in effect treat us in a more professional manner and respect. Take for example, our credit in Dan Wallace's latest Essential Guide. I guess I am starting to ramble now, hope it makes sense.
Regards,
Michael Potts

It certainly does, Michael. Thanks for the input. I'll definitely include some, if not all, of that in the next episode. If you come up with anything else you'd care to include, I'm all ears.
Also, I won't forget to mention whose idea it was to bring up that topic on CR to begin with. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup.gif

Hey Nathan, hi all!
I just wanted to be one of the first to welcome those new members of the SWT-G Project Team that have been selected by Nathan, and wish them good luck in their endeavors.
As Qui-Gon said, "It will be a hard life." I hope to be able to learn more about these new additions once they start their work with the Timeline.
In the meantime, I'd like to comment on the spirit of fan-based project relations. In my time with the SWT-G, I've had a great working relationship with Nathan, and have found that his comments on many different subjects are ones that strike home quite well. It's because of the work he did that I was initially attracted to the SWT-G.
Now, I'll admit that I did start out as a TimeTales fan. I still have copies of the most recent TT .zip file on my harddrive, so as to cross reference materials when necessary. I'd like to think that there's a mutual respect between all the people working on such projects, and I hope that this will always continue, because being a SW fan is a unifying and satisfying part of fandom that one doesn't often experience.
However, I would like to note that I also often times see friendly competition between fan projects. I know for a fact that such friendly competition takes place between the SWT-G and TT, and that though they share information on a semi-regular basis, you will also find arguments about dating, about Canon/Official/Apocrypha issues, and a variety of other things. Now, don't get me wrong; I think that this level of competition is very refreshing and very innocent. Little jabs at an "opponent" when they make a small error are always fun, and are also ways to help make that opponent work harder to create a better project.
All in all, it's a great system that Nathan and Chris and Mike have going, and I'm sure it will continue as it has, and I'm sure other fan projects enjoy the same level of cooperation and competition. It's only natural. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Alright, I just posted this at TFN and TOS, so here's the official question release for CR4:
-----
While I'm not certain whether the fourth episode of ChronoRadio will come in August or September, the two major topics for the show have been determined.
The first is fan cooperation, such as between fan sites, fan timeliners, fan film groups, and so forth. What are your thoughts on such cooperation? Does it really exist? Should it? Where have we seen it, or seen it blow up in our faces?
The second is the Infinities seal: Is this a good idea? A waste of publications? Particularly the "What If" and "Parody" stories from this imprint, what are the good and bad points, and so forth.
If you have any thoughts on these issues and would like to be quoted in the next episode of ChronoRadio, post you thoughts here, and I'll make sure to get a lot of them on the show.
If you can record your thoughts as MOV, WAV, or MP3, let me know, and we can get you HEARD, not just quoted, on the show.

Also, Michael, did you guys ever get around to fixing the SWT-G name and web address in the TimeTales DOC?
(And, btw, amusingly enough, in case you didn't know, me and Chris had the same misconception when he and I first spoke. That's why I was so fed up with it when you first contacted me. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif )

What I have at the moment, is about 11 pages worth of notes to go through, then when that is ready, I will get the latest and greatest version of the .doc file, insert those new entries, then go back through the whole file and do an edit / clean up. When I do that, I will fix your credit.

Perhaps you could also talk about how fandom as influenced officialdom.
For instance, how I came up with the date -350 BSW for the formation of the Trade Federation, only to find that Ann Lewis used Timetales as a source while researching for the "Essential Guide to Alien Species", and she used the date as well. Quite a buzz!
Nathan Butler
07-29-2002, 04:41 PM
I've thought about that one, actually. It might be a good one to interweave with the whole "fans helping fans" topic. So far, I'm still not sure if there'll be an August CR. I'll probably hold off on it unless I get some really good topics or quotes from people. I'll be starting teaching just as the new release comes out.
There will definitely be a new SWT-G release, though, probably the weekend of August 10-11. It'll be tight trying to get it in, but it should be doable.
As for the ChronoRadio Special Edition, work is still continuing on that one. It's at about 25 min, which is about halfway through, and so far it's gotten pretty good reviews from fellow SWT and SWz staffers who have listened to it.
Nathan Butler
07-31-2002, 02:55 AM
And two days and a ton of inspiration later, I'm happy to announce that ChronoRadio: Special Edition, Vol. I ("The Canon Question") is complete. *I just finished it up, and it clocks in at 1:05:39. *I'm sending it to Michael Smith in the next couple of days so he can get it compressed down into something efficient. Right now, the CD-quality mp3 file is 62 MB, compressed down from a 650+ MB CD-quality WAV file.
I'm most likely going to hold onto this one for October, as I'd been planning, for the anniversary. *I'll be getting the CD-quality mp3 to SWT Research Assistant Brien Bell (JamesTSkywalker) soon, hopefully, so I can get his feedback.
As for the SWT-G20: *I picked up Traitor today, and I want to get it read and summarized before the release. *If for some reason that is going to end up taking enough time to make a release two weekends from now impossible, I'll hold off on the summary and release anyway. I won't have time to do a release the weekend of the 17th, as I'll have someone down for the weekend.
So, here's hoping I read fast.

08-01-2002, 07:05 PM
Yeah, I'm hoping to make the next CR a bit more meaty than the previous episode. I was told by one listener (granted, only one, but still) that it was a bit "fluffier" than the previous two. The CR:SE is certainly going to be meaty (and should actually be SMALLER than the previous releases, thanks to my cable modem allowing me to get a cd quality wav or mp3 to Michael for better mp3 compression).
So far, I *think* I know what all will be covered in the next CR, but until I know for sure and have a definite plan in mind, I'm holding off. That probably means none for August, as I figured, but then one in September, followed by an October CR *and* the CR:SE in October.
Nathan Butler
08-02-2002, 03:54 AM
Alright, the decision has been made about the August CR.
Yes, there will be a new episode. In fact, it will have more "beefy" content than last month's episode. However, as of this August release, CR is going to go *bi-monthly*, meaning October will give us #6, while #7 won't arrive until December. That way, I have more time to get more in-depth information and topics in the file, and I can record the segments over a longer period so as not to burn out on the concept.
So, probably next weekend, expect the SWT-G10 and CR4.

Nathan Butler
08-03-2002, 03:37 AM
Nah, it's a little too early, I think. Plus, I need to finish Traitor. I'm still pretty loaded down with planning and such, though, so it's slow-going. I had a week of "new teacher" meetings this week, and I have a week of general teacher meetings this coming week. I start teaching on the 12th, so I'm hoping I can slip in enough time to get it out the weekend prior, instead of waiting for the 19th. But unless I don't include Traitor, I doubt it'll be possible until the 10th/11th.
Nathan Butler
08-07-2002, 12:56 AM
Well, I'm highly stressing out right now thanks to a bunch of crap seeming to hit all at once, but I'm still going to try to get Traitor summarized and onto the new SWT-G for this weekend. The new episode of ChronoRadio *is* finished, and clocks in at a whopping 1 hour and 22 minutes. (Usually, there's an opening, closing, 2 segments, and a review. This one has an opening, closing, 4 segments, and a review, so it's twice as long as most previous episodes.)
I'll update the thread again when they're ready.

It's been decided that the CR episode for October will feature a special exclusive preview segment of the Second Strike audio drama, different from the original (now remixed) preview scene currently on the 2S website.
If it's the scene I figure it will be, this one will feature Cecil Fish (Ka'Sun), Matthew Gordon (Kal S'Darcis), Billy Buehler (Zimms), and myself (Convoy Captain), in a scene aboard the New Republic Liberation's Scythe in an early part of the storyline.

The cancellation of Star Wars Gamer is another blow to Star Wars fans who enjoy the opportunity to read regular official short stories. After enjoying the fantastic Star Wars Adventure Journal series, and sadly seeing that format's demise, it is disheartening to go through the same experience
with Star Wars Gamer.
The appeal of Star Wars Gamer was that it offered something for everyone. There were short stories, RPG modules, articles on computer games and discussion on collecting. SWG took one step further than the SWAJ and actually allowed fan submission for the RPG content - this was a first for
an official Lucasfilm publication. I don't want to get into the debate on which format was better (SWAJ vs. SWG), just need to iterate that we DO need a publication of this type of format. Fans enjoy reading short stories from the recognised Star Wars authors whom they really enjoy. Short stories
serve a purpose, they tell interesting tales that don't warrant a full length novel. We have the opportunity of exploring uncharted waters in the Star Wars galaxy, delve into the backhistory of characters, etc... as well as serving as prologues or side tangents to current released novels, such as the short stories that revolved around Dark Journey.
I am unsure where this decision came from, whether it was from Lucasfilm or Wizards of the Coast, however I think reasoning behind the decision should be made to fans (if it already hasn't). I would completely understand if poor sales was the result of the cancellation, that is just pure business,
but if it was any other reason, I would like to see that decision justified.
Solution? Lucasfilm has tried this format twice now with two different publishers, first West End Games, and now Wizards of the Coast. Sadly, I can't envision Lucasfilm trying for a third time. What could a possible solution be to satisfy fans who have a hunger for this type of publication? I believe that one solution would be to continue the format, but publish it
online at the official site - www.starwars.com This should cut costs dramatically. Sure, they would still have to pay authors to write the stories, but it will be extremely cheaper to publish them electronically than to publish a magazine. Perhaps people could pay a small subscription fee for the service, and there is actually a greater potential for success,
given the factor you can take the medium beyond the printed page; you could have video, flash graphics, sound, interaction, polls, etc...
In summation, the idea of SWAJ / SWG is a fantastic one that fans love, LFL just needs to find a cost effective means to deliver the format.

Don't expect any major updates to my two listings for the September issue, nor to my responses for our Best Of Star Wars section of the Appendix.
HOWEVER, do expect plenty of new material from me in October, with the Fifth Anniversary of the Timeline. Also, should I be able to hook up my microphone, I may record some stuff for ChronoRadio.
New Listings for SWTG22:
The Unofficial Apprenticeship Guide: A listing of the Jedi who we've known as apprentices, who they've been apprenticed to, and what era they're from.
Wraith Squadron History: A compendium of the members of Wraith Squadron, a supplement to the Rogue Squadron History.
That's all for now.

I"m not going to DragonCon (no cash and lots of work to finish), but I did drop by the hotel last night. I had dinner with Chris Hanel (The Formula, Digital Llama Radio, Second Strike, etc.), John Hudgens (Crazy Watto, Jedi Hunter, Darth Vader's Psychic Hotline), and Tony Calluti (Sins of the Jedi, and I think I spelled his name wrong). After that, Chris and John came back to my apt with me to watch Jedi Hunter on VHS. We ended up watching the 9/11 special from CBS last year and talking about where we were when it happened. I should have some stills up from hanging with them sometime soon, and there'll be a video clip from Chris and I to Second Strike fans going up once he gets back. The new SWT-G, and CR5, and the CR:SE should all be available by sometime the weekend of the 19th/20th. I'd like to release them a week from today, but I don't know how my schedule looks just yet. I still have to summarize DW and a couple of comics, and I still have to read and summarize Ylesia. The CRs are done, though, and ready to go as soon as the SWT-G is ready.
As for topics, for those curious, CR5 features . . .
- a new intro sequence (just for this episode)
- callbacks to previous shows (corrections and expansions)
- our first audio clip from a listener (our encoder)
- a feature on 5 years of the SWT Project
- a retrospective on the NJO storyline thus far (book by book) with a mini-rant on the Salvatore death threats
- a review of Jedi Quest vis a vis Jedi Apprentice
- recommendations
That runs about 90 min or so, then the CR:SE, which is on *only* the "Canon Question" clocks in at about 65 min. So you'll get a huge 155 min or so of ChronoRadio material when it finally hits.

The project has hit five years, and those of us who have worked on it, down to the smallest contributors, are having a great time this month celebrating.
I look forward to any comments, particularly on ChronoRadio.

Great show, Nathan, all good, with the exception of the guest.
He was bad, I'd get him to script out his answer before he does any more, and practise them.
Keep up the good work.

Correction: What we need are more comments . . . and more downloads. CR #5 has picked up decently since release yesterday, but it doesn't look like CR:SE #1 (the one so much work went into) has yet to be downloaded at *all*.

Sounds good to me.
And, just an FYI, this month may begin a series of shorter, less-confined-to-literature Supplemental Episodes. It's a long story as to why, but there's a good chance this month's could include a guest co-host, which has helped prompt the preparations.
Nathan Butler
10-25-2002, 11:27 AM
Yep, the first Supplemental Edition (Episode V.V) is a go. About half an hour has been recorded, and I figure there'll be one main feature this time, utilizing the guest co-host.
This episode's guest will be Kris Newsom of Prelude to Hope, Second Strike, and Ren Min: The People's Republic. The episode will feature callbacks (including direct new quotes from Chris Cerasi in response to some of my questions), a review of JF:OS #1-4, the viability of the two big Sci-Fi franchises (SW and ST) in the next few years, and perhaps even an announcement regarding Kris' upcoming fan film project based on . . . well, yours truly.

I've downloaded G23, and good stuff, I must say.
I'll have the second edition of the Jedi Apprenticeship Guide ready for G24, as well as the earlies Wraith Squadron History I'll have. For G25, I will have the Dark Jedi Compendium for the Appendix materials, and I may have info on other projects I'll have running.
Included in the Dark Jedi Compendium will be a list (and brief history) of the Emperor's Hands. Apparently, a ninth, named Kogo Vess, was added in the Rebellion Era Sourcebook by WOTC. So that should be fun to work on.

Excellent. CR is shaping up as well. I expect to do the interview with Chad Peter and Shayna Lanzo next weekend, maybe even the one with Will Brooker that weekend as well. The Peter/Lanzo one won't come out until after Drugs is released, but the Brooker may come ASAP.
The 2002 Holiday Special (Episode VI) is shaping up as well, with only a little bit left to get in there, like the "Ask Dan Wallace" segment. Otherwise, the rest is recorded and ready to be mixed. Believe me, this one will be the best CR ever. I've cut the recommendations segment and given this one a small humorous bit, plus THREE, instead of the usual two, feature stories. The discussion/debate over the membership of the High Council is probably my favorite 2-man segment thus far.
That episode will also be featuring the end of the "Yoda saga" that began with his spoiler warning in I - IV, moved into his partying in V, and ended recently in his storming out of the studio in V.V. The conclusion to his storyline will come in a segment in VI, then expect an all new opening and closing sequence for each episode starting in 2003.
Also, incidentally, for those who liked my old Dreamscape script, you should check out the TFN Serious Fan Film Competition. Dreamscape is on there. What I'd be looking for would be basically just comments on either previous topics or announced ones. I'd be taking the comments in the form of an audio clip and inserting into the show.
The lack of many of those types of clips is what got me started on having the co-hosts, though, so I'd have to work those together, probably by having any callbacks and comments in the opening of the show, then bringing in the co-host after a bit.
The Gatherer

Ok, I will start experimenting with my new computer.

Nathan Butler
11-28-2002, 01:28 AM
CD quality mp3 works best for me on my end, depending on size. If it's not a matter of space for you to upload to somewhere, though, it can be a CD quality wav. I'm on a cable modem at home now, so I can get it either way. It'll end up compressed to the standard bitrates for CR whenever it's done anyway.
Right now, the topic that you might want to consider is some of the major Official Continuity relationships and couples. Erica and I are going to hit those in the Feb. edition, but she's not as versed in the continuity beyond the films.
The Gatherer
11-28-2002, 10:00 AM
Nathan,
Would you ever consider ChronoVideo? Perhaps if you got a webcam, you could take the next step?
Also, if Daniel Wallace is going to answer questions in future episodes, are you going to get him to record his answers to the questions?
Can you please elaborate on the 'couples' topic?!
Nathan Butler
11-28-2002, 11:43 AM
I just answered the CV and DW topics over on the TFN Lit board, so I'll skip those.
As to the couples topic:
The next regularly-scheduled episode that isn't already recorded is to be released in February. Because that's the month of Valentine's Day here in the states, I'm doing a sort of "girly" episode with Erica back as co-host. (You'll hear her in the Drugs Interview). We're going to be covering (a) a look at the couples of Star Wars (maybe whether we expected them to get together, what we think of the relationship, what impact their relationship has had on the continuity), (b) the many outfits of Padme (I figure I can talk about Lucas using it as a cue to whether it's a decoy or the real Padme, and Erica, the model, can take the fashion aspect a bit), and © Leia vs. Padme as a female role model.
I'm not yet sure what the review will end up being for that month.
I figure she can talk plenty on topics b and c, but she's not as continuity versed as I am, so topic a may be a more difficult sell for her.

I saw. I'm keeping the post in mind. It's interesting. The emails I had sitting here this morning. People pay more attention to the CR site updates than I thought. Heh.
Thanks. As I always say there are more than two sides to every story.
Racism is ugly.
The original post that started of the thread, which was started by a friend BTW, made me look at star wars from a certain POV. It is not the only one, but I take nothing for granted, nothing. What a famous person says in public, may not be what they think inside or say in private. What I see in a film, may not be what the person sitting next to me sees. How far do you read into things? It is a difficult one, as a simple word can mean so many different things to so many people.
And the question of how far we defend ethnic minorities/religious groups/etc is one that a balance has just not been found, especially in the UK. Do they really want defending? What do you do when someone abuses your own goodwill? What happens when native people are racially abused? Do they not have rights too? All hard issues, for which a good answer is just never forthcoming.
I will follow what my heart tells me, keep sticking up for people when I think they have been wronged and question motives of people. That was what I was taught at University, to look into the mind of an artist and find out why the painted or sculpted the way they did. But I am not that person, so in a sense I will never fully know.
Neither will I know what it is like to be anything but a pale white guy, though that doesn't mean I haven't come under fire from racial discrimination. Lets just say someone I was romatically linked to was from India. The rubbish I had to be put through because I was white and from Britain was, at times, too much. People living in the UK today should not be blamed for the actions of idiots over 100 years ago. But that didn't stop the comments from any person we met from the Indian subcontinent - relatives and absolutely complete strangers in a street. Just to let you know racism swings both ways.
Nathan Butler
04-27-2003, 04:09 PM
If I may follow-up, since those are some good thoughts:
Would you say that we are now almost trapped by our attention to the past? The world in the last twenty years has opened up so immensely, becoming a true "global community," and yet the more we have contact with other cultures, the more we come face-to-face with our own pasts. They say that those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it, but is it possible that those who remember the past without a detached perspective can be sucked in by it?
Brian
04-27-2003, 04:25 PM
Well, I'll save my thoughts for the show. Plus, I don't have the time to sit here and type them all out. Just tune in (err...download) folks.
I think if we ignore or try to forget some things from the past, then we may very well repeat the mistakes. But if we hold century-old grudges, then we will definitely repeat the past.
Things to learn from the past - Colonialism is just wrong. So is war. So is abusing people just because they don't look like you. Or follow your ideas. The problem is that the West could sit back, and let everyone else get on with it. But certain people aren't happy to be isolated, and though they should never have been allowed into power, they are. And they do not hold human life in the same way many people from the west do. Nor do they want to remain silent and get on with running their own country. I won't go into any recent conflicts as the boards have asked us not to, and I respect their opinion though it is not fully my own.
I know and have friends from nearly all the world's cultures and religions. All of them are intelligent, and if they were in charge then the world would be a better place. I don't think the West truly understands the East, and vice versa. Never the twain will meet - to a large extent. In terms of beliefs who is right? One side is adamant that it is them, the other itself. I usually just sit in the middle and cry.
Though it is pessimistic, the world will never be fully united until we can all stop looking at the next man and saying "You are different, so you must be wrong". Let the next man get on with his job.
Jealousy is a negative human trait too (as a Scorpio I seemed to be astronomically inclined to this human flaw style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif) and jealously of a person's good deeds leads to trouble too. A successful culture will be hated by a struggling culture. Weimar Germany in the 1930s is an excellent example. Without the poverty and misery, Hitler may well never have risen to power. Look to the other countries today, remove the poverty and misery and the world may well be a safer place. Just tell that to some governments.
Nathan Butler
04-27-2003, 04:36 PM
On Hitler, one could also argue that part of that was the fault of the Allies for the $35 billion in war reparations demanded after WW1. So would you argue that in today's society, it's not so much racial issues that we're more conscious of, but class issues?
Yes - the debt was a huge factor on Germany's poverty.
Speaking of the UK alone, class has become very much a background issue. Race, especially in the form of asylum seekers and native Britons born from ethnic minority parents going over to fight against British troops, seems to dominate news and just about everything else. You don't hear much of the middle class vs working class, though I personally don't feel that the Monarchy serves a purpose anymore (aside from tradition and a public relations exercise) than to empower certain families. Kings & Queens were useful in the Middle Ages - they ran the country, now we have politicians to do that.
In terms of worldwide - religion is a big issue in impoverished countries. It is a sign of hope, and something to link you with others. That is why I don't follow religion (modern religion in first world countries is the next stage from third world religion) - it is a tool to control the masses.
When I see underlying differences between people on the street and hear muttered comments when two different groups meet, its usually racial/religious differences at the forefront. The west is considered to be immoral - we drink, our women dress inappropriately and flirt with men in public, women have power in political and public arenas, we don't hold family dear.
Note that I don't drink, smoke, or do anything disagreeable with polite society (apart from the ocassional swear word at work style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif). The women flirting is fine with me style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif
The East is western eyes is inhuman, to women, their own people, human rights abuses, etc. Family units can often be suffocating.
Anyways,
I'll have to go now, the phoneline is needed. I have posted an answer to your recording my comments on the TOS board. Sorry, I have to repectfully decline on that one (some of my reasons are there). I will try to write some comments and post them to you soon, inbetween all the other stuff I have to do. Long list style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

Quick update: Expect the May SWT-G28 on May 25, the anniversary of ROTJ. That will allow for about 10 more summaries than it would to release it about a week or two later, which was the original plan.
Also, details are being worked out now about the first film Commentary Track for ChronoRadio. At present, I'm determining whether or not it will be just me, or me and Fatboy Roberts for the TPM commentary. In all honesty, I'm starting to think a one-voice uniformity for all of the six films when completed would be best, and it would also allow me more flexibility in getting the Parallels Serial Editions finished earlier.

Update: It looks like ChronoRadio #9 should hit the 'net on June 1. It'll be a doozy, dealing with, among other things, the racial issues involved in the films.
More than likely, June will also see the release of all three (at one-week intervals) Serial Editions, which are essentially original prose stories, presented as audiobooks, but with the spoken lines from the non-narrator characters cast to voice actors.
I'm not positive if June will also see the TPM Fan Commentary, but it's very likely.
And, yes, the new SWT-G is still aimed for May 25.

06-07-2003, 11:04 PM
The first ChronoRadio: Serial Edition is here!
I'm proud to announce the release of the first of three stories in the "Star Wars: Parallels" series.
The series is a new form of fan audio production. These stories, part of a special type of ChronoRadio called a "Serial Edition" are essentially original Star Wars fiction, written as prose. They are then presented in what I call "enhanced audiobook format." They are not audio dramas, per se, in that they do not contain sound effects, but they are read as an audiobook would be, but *all speaking parts* have been cast out to voice actors, rather than being read by the narrator as would happen in a regular audiobook.
Each story in the "Parallels" storyline will follow the same series of events, each through the eyes of one of the three main characters.
The object here was to present a story in the fashion of NBC's "Boomtown," but as an audiobook format. The individual dialogue lines are the exact same in all three, and the prose is meant to parallel each other in the same way, with subtle changes to the nuances to change meaning and present another character's point of view.
Perceptions created by Part I will be challenged in Part II, with revelations in Part III.
The final two episodes will be released June 15 and June 22.
You can find the first episode here:

I really like it. Sonja did a great job on it. The theme is based on that old 10th anniversary ANH poster that was in Insider #68 (p. 34). I dig it . . . and it lets us credit the new co-compiler too.

^ *bows graciously* thank you O-B-Gates and Nathan style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/satisfied.gif it was my pleasure. I didn't end up having time to do the addiction, Brian. It's already in for SWT-G30 in Sept., but if I waited on SWT-G29, I wouldn't have been able to get it out for a while because I'd be finishing up Project Sonja.
Anyway, good CR news: I just did the interview with Dan Wallace last night. It'll be up probably at the end of this week, even though CR #10's "recap" doesn't mention it. Nothing I can do about that now, though, as CR #10 is "wrapped."

Eh, too much time with Anthology.
Well, it was meant to be released tomorrow, not today, but an uploading foul-up on my end required some crafty re-uploading of key ChronoRadio pages.
So, in the wake of that, I'll release it early and save myself some trouble.
Ladies and gents, the Dan Wallace Interview Edition is now available.

With the launch of "Project Sonja" less than a month away, I've started a ChronoRadio thread on the new Fan Radio and Audio Dramas forum here at the Galactic Senate. Hopefully, that'll catch on, and we can bring this thread back around to the SWT-G itself.

^speaking of projects and ChronoRadio, have you thought about doing a segment or getting information about EU novels that take place between Eps III - IV. There will be a 17 year gap to be covered. Do you think they will publish novels during that period? Or do you think they'll leave that time period empty since none of our main characters will be in a position to get involved?

Well, we've already got Brian Daley's Han Solo Adventures, L. Neil Smith's Lando Calrissian adventures, and A.C. Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy; plus, there are a lot of other stories (not necessarily novels) that take place in that time period.
Check the timeline. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

OK.. i am not a continuity buff, i mean i think it is cool and sets SW apart from other fan groups out there, but i have never looked at a timeline before i dont think. I have been thinking about getting back into EU, i havent read a sw book since I, Jedi so it has been awhile. So i downloaded SWT-G to look at what the NJO story is about and... OMG. This thing is huge, amazing. I never expected it to be this complete and this encompassing. I have over the last few nights been pouring over it, not reading it in full as i do not think that is humanly possible, but scanning and looking at parts of the story that i know and like. It is amazingly organized, and thourough. Even though i am almost 6 years older then you Nate, i am scared of you being my teacher. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Me too, i read that in full. The one i did not read was the FanFic timelines. Nothing against them i just dont read much FanFic, or watch many FanFilms. Is there Audio Drama timelines yet? Come on Nate you lazy bum <-- joke style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

There are a few audio drama timelines in that supplement.
But . . .
Yes, that's the supplement that's being cut.
So, it really doesn't make much difference right now as to how many audio dramas are in there, unless I make a section in the Appendices for timelines just based on Fanworks projects, just sort of since they're "special." style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Hey i had a question, Does anyone know anything about "super shadow" from said name .com? also of anyone who goes there do ther find him obnoxious and irritating as well? I was curiouse as to whether he is a big liar or not.

Do not believe a word that man says (Stupidshadow). He either completely makes up his information or steals it from other sites with better information and passes it off as his own.
And, as I know people within Lucasfilm, I know for a fact that Mr. Mickey Suttle has no relationship with anyone in the Lucasfilm coporation, and definitely not George Lucas.

Speaking of which, Nate, I lost a lot of data when my drive was corrupted on my other computer, so I have to re-create some of my information, including a listing of all characters in the NJO (luckily I was only up to Agents of Chaos 2). So,
