Ok, ive been having a think about Mon Mothma and the Battle Of Endor. Was she still on board Home One during the battle or did she leave

Hm. I don't know! Good question... we don't see her during the battle, but where else would she have gone? Sullust?

After the battle of hoth the rebels had a secret base on a world called Arbra which isnt terribly to far from endor so thats one place she may have been hanging out.

I kind of always hoped Mon Mothma was on that cruiser that got blown up by the second Death Star ("Fire at will, commander!"). What can I say, I never liked her character. She seeemed snooty and annoying to me. When I heard she was going to appear in Ep.3, I thought perhaps I would like her more if I learned more about her... But when I finally saw her scenes (deleted scenes on the dvd anyways)... nope, nothing changed. I guess I'd hoped that perhaps back in the days of the Old Republic, when she was younger, she might have been a lively, attractive, energetic, intellectual female grad student type. But she still seemed like a stick in the mud even back in her younger days. I hope she died.

Snooty? The woman was just sad. You only saw her once. Was she supposed to be dancing around and grinning in that scene?

Yeah, that might of been hot. :nahnah:

actually, if you really want to read more about Mon Mothma, there are tons of EU sources available. But the best ones are Labyrinth of Evil (she is portrayed very well during Grevous' attack on Coruscant), Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader (in scenes w/ Bail Organa), and there is a TPB called SW: Visionaries that depicts what Mon Mothma was doing right before she briefed the troops before Endor (it really is an excellent story).

DM - does that story say what she was doing during the battle / immeditately after?

I hope she died.

She did. In the EU, she passed away of natural causes shortly before the Yuuzhan Vong invasion (about 21 years after Endor).

Ehh... She struck me more as someone who puts on a sad face to make herself look like she cares more than she does... in order to rally the troops for her cause.

You know... the old strategy of... "Look how emotional I'm getting over this! Can't you tell by my shaky voice and trembling lower lip how much I care about this situation! If you were a good person, YOU would care as much as I do!!! Now would a few more of you please go out there and die to bring me some more information?!!"

I'm not saying this is what she was "really" like... Obviously her few short scene(s) are open to a LOT of interpretation. That was just my own personal perception. I know it's unfair.

Where does it come from? Probably a certain amount of cynical distrust of female authority figures... SOME (not all but some) of whom, in my experience, were happy to let their eyes well up with tears if that would jazz other people to do their bidding.

What can I say... since I was a teenager, I have worked a few different jobs with b*tchy/ manipulative/ snooty female bosses. Weirdly enough, they all seemed to have that Mon Mothma look and presence.

Sorry... Can't stand the EU. The EU doesn't exist and therefore doesn't count to me. And not because I dislike reading. I am a voracious reader. I have always just found, no matter how many times I have tried to give them a fair chance, that most EU books are very poorly written and bear little semblance in spirit to the Star Wars I know and love through the movies.

So no thanks... I'm happy to assume for my own personal satisfaction that she was aboard that cruiser, just one of many voices that suddenly screamed out in terror and was suddenly silenced. (Insert maniacal Palpatine laughter here!)

And as a side note... if anybody involved in this discussion cares (I would assume you don't, but...) I have explained in further detail, in many other threads on this forum, my feelings about the EU and why, specifically, it doesn't work for me. Here's the links...

I had that same thought years ago (about the fate of her ship, not about disliking her character), especially in light of the old "Padme is Mon Mothma" theory. That would have been a cool, cruel twist to the saga.

When you disregard the EU (which i do), IMO the reason for the sad face is the cost of getting the information -- the death of the Bothan spies.

Yes, I remember when that rumor was going around. I have to admit back at that time I was rooting for it to be true. Even if Mon Mothma looks nothing like an older Padme. But it would have made me see Mon Mothma a totally different way and made me, not just like her but care about her. You are absolutely right, it would have made for a fascinating twist. Perhaps not as tragic or dramatically satisfying as Padme's death, however.

Well, of course I know that. Like I said, I know my interpretation is unfair to the character and GL's intent with her. It's just one of those weird things where a fictional character in a movie somehow reminds you of real people that have rubbed you the wrong way... so the fictional character rubs you the wrong way. That's the only reason I don't like her. And she's not a big enough character for me to care enough to change my mind. So I can live with disliking her and assuming she died in that battle anyway, and that someone I do like, (probably Leia or Admiral Ackbar) got her job later on. And did a better job than she would have in that position. Haha. :nahnah:

^well, at least you see that you are being unfair, which is honest. And in any event, I know a lot of the EU stories could have been written better, but there is a reason I picked the three I did, as they are exceptionally well done in every aspect and all very closely relate to the films, unlike most other EU sources. I would urge all of you, EU fan or not to check out Labyrinth of Evil, Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader, and SW: Visionaries, if only to better understand the films.

On another note, Mon Mothma briefed the troops aboard Home One, which was Admiral Ackbars ship at Endor. The ship that got roasted by the Death Star II was the Liberty, not Home One. As for where Mon Mothma was DURING Endor, that has not been addressed in any source to date that I know of.

That information is from EU (not movie) sources, right? If that is the case, I still like the theory that the Mother/Ma of the Skywalker kids met her demise in the Battle of Endor.

I hear you. My boss is exactly like that. A couple crocodile tears and she has people jumping through hoops. It's sad. But not everyone is the same. I actually believed Mon Mothma that it was a grave situation. Beings DID die. And the battle was not hers alone, but that of all the rebels who wanted freedom from the Empire for their worlds.

You are not a Sith, are you?
