Have any of you ever noticed that in SW: A New Hope when Obi-wan cut off that guy's arm in the Cantina their was blood. But In AOTC when anakin lost his arm there was not a drop of blood. What's up with that?

It's an error that only became an error when they decided that lightsabers would cauterize the wound. They've just been too lazy or respectful to go back and fix that scene. I have mixed feelings about what they should do.

I'm sure this is talked about somewhere on this board, though maybe it's not easy to find.

Also, could you people come up with more appropriate thread titles than 'Ever wonder', 'What about', 'I'm confused' etc.?:wink:

Well, when you think of it, it's the only time ever that blood was shown after a lightsaber wound. I think it's no coincidence that it was also the first lightsaber action you see in the entire saga. Lucas obviously hadn't thought of the cauterized wound yet for lightsabers. Honestly, I'm surprised he hasn't digitally gotten rid of the blood in the SE by now considering how much he likes to tinker.

And I thought it was a shistavanen wolfman. Arooooooooo!

Either way, i think they're both mammals (Aqualish and Shistavanen), so would probably react similarly to losing a limb (i.e. bleed - unless the wound were cauterized).

Exactly and since humans are mammals they should bleed the same as Aqualish and Shistavanen.

Yeah... but then there's the cauterization thing... *shrug*.

Do the wounds need to cauterize instantly? The brachial artery is quite large and has high blood pressure - maybe there was spurting as the artery was cut, causing the blood we see, and then the wound cauterized?

There's a little spray of blood when Darth Maul's bisected.

Dunno... I'm not horribly troubled by that little bit, i have to admit - but this has been interesting so far.

But the lightsaber blade is over one thousand degrees. which would instantly cuaterize the wound.

It was an Aqualish pirate called Ponda Baba

Talk about a brain fart, yeah. It was an Aqualish. Since he was ruffing them up with Dr. Evazan or whatever the guy's name is. Sorry bout that.

Also, I was getting Aqualish confused with Quarren. Darn those Q's!

Maybe GL is waiting for the super-duper, ultimate edition to make the changes - like for the 40th or the 50th anniversary. Otherwise, he's running out of things to change that would make us want to give him more money for the same product.

Heh, heh...too true. I highly doubt that we've seen the last of any alterations to these films.
