I used to play this game a LOT! before I even found this forum. But I stopped playing once they changed the entire format and in my opinion ruined a great game. Used to have characters on the following Servers Lowca > Wookiee Bounty Hunter; Gorath > Human Smuggler; Scylla > Trandosian Hand to hand combatant; and I kept on creating and deleting some characters between servers. I'm always half tempted to go back and see some of the sights, but then i remember that its just not the same game anymore and talk myself out of it. Have fun guys.

I never got into it due to lack of a high end computer. If I jump into such an immersive SW experience, I want it to be as pretty as possible. Time was also an issue, then people said they changed things that dampened gameplay. Haven't kept up to see what it's like, now.
...
What's it like, now?

SWG's not what it used to be. The Combat Upgrade was "necessary" to balance out Bounty Hunter and Jedi. and that just messed up game play right there. Then they came around with the New Game "upgrade" and destroyed the unique skill tree based profession that made this game so different than all the others. Now it's Level based just like every other thing out there. They improved intigration of the game content to follow a "story" type setting, and gave it the "follow the missions" scheme, just like any other game, but you don't have to follow them it just makes it more interesting as you travel the galaxy; you are under the impression that you have a purpose. as for PVP I'm not into that so I don't know how that has changed.

I used to play this a while ago before combat upgrade, after the upgrades I stopped then not too long ago I tried the NGE ..It really did ruin such an awsome game, haven't really got into the NGE but I've been tempted to try it again. Hopefully the pre-cu emu will work out and we can all have our game back =]

I checked out the emu. It's pre CU and it was good they have a lot more to do though. they're working on all the combat stuff right now. No crafting or harvesting is available yet, well at least not from what I saw. Have you checked out their site yet Coltonxx?

Yeah I haven't checked in a while but last I saw they had a little test server going on where you could just run around with lightsabers and fight. They still got a long way to go but in the end it will be all worth it =]

Yup that's what it was. It gave me a bit of a problem when I left the confines of Toshe Station, the objects all turned black. I guess Toshe Station is their testing area. But I'm glad they are getting to work, it shows great promise.

09-27-2007, 07:23 PM
some players really didn't like the changes implemented by SOE and decided to get together and create a Star Wars Galaxies Emulator (SWGEmu). basicly a Server that has the game before the Combat Upgrade was implemented. Google SWGEmu and you see what we are talking about. Currently all they have up and running is the Test Server which is character creation and test combat skills.

Im kinda interested about this SWGEmu? What exactly did they change to dissatisfy their gaming community. Not like the first time this has happened, the best example being counter-strike.

what did they change... Everything. Originally it was a game based on skills the player would persue by using certain weapons or techniques of collecting or harvesting resources.
Let's say I was pursueing the Smuggler profession. The smuggler profession had two fighter based skills needed to persue before embarking on the first tier of smuggler skill that was available. the fighter skills needed were Pistol skillls and Unarmed skills. Once the aspiring Smuggler had climed the 4 tiers of pistol and unarmed each, then he can get trained in Smuggling skills such as making spice, slicing weapons, armour, and locked boxes, dirty fighting skills and underground connection skills. Now the skills once aquired would eventually enable the Smuggler to reach Master Smuggler status and that would be as far as you could go in skills for smuggling. But then you could go and aquire additional skills to enhance your character. I was attempting to go for Master Smuggler with Master Pistoleer skills before they made changes.
Now the game is level based. Highest level currently is 90, and they have enhancement skills to further improve the style of play for the character. Basicly what's already out there in so many other games already.
The reason I liked the game is because it had the skill based professions as opposed to just leveling in the profession that you chose. It gave the players more felxibility in playing all sorts of characters from entertainer and deadly knife-fighter to a shipbuilder that had a background in handeling pets and creatures. Now you're either a Jedi or a Commando nothing in between. and it really sucks for the non-combatant professions like Entertainers or Artisians who make stuff, because they can't really enjoy going out and killing stuff because they wouldn't last that long.
And they made it so EVERYONE can be a Jedi. starting out no one was a Jedi and it was cool because the only people who were Jedi or force users were Luke, Yoda, the Emperor and Darth Vader at the time. It was remaining consistent with the story of Star Wars within the given timeline of the story (between ANH and ESB) And later on they modified it so that players would have to complete certain tasks or "dungeons" to collect badges. Once a player had collected a certain amount of badges they would be visited by "an old man" who would inform the player that they were on the path of becoming a force sensitive and would be given a crystal, which would provide further instruction on how to pursue the Jedi profession. But now you can just log in and say oooh I wanna be a Jedi!
I don't know if I'm helping or hindering the idea of this game being played by anyone else, it's just something I vent about at times... carry on.

As stated earlier for those interested in playing or contacting me in-game; I've got 6 characters on different servers:
Server Bria; Male Zabrak by the name of Gamio, profession Bounty Hunter.
Server Eclipse; Male Bothan by the name of Doata, profession Spy.
Server Lowca; Male Wookiee by the name of WiWookwe, profession Smuggler.
Server Gorath; Male Human by the name of Stuert, profession Smuggler. (Main character)
Server Scylla; Male Trandoshan by the name of Ozxy, profession Jedi.
Server Valcyn; Female Twi'lek by the name of La'Ahl, profession Officer.
I'm thinking of deleting my Wookiee character and creating another Wookiee Commando on another server. If interested we could start characters on the same server.

From the legendary insider, SurferGirl http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.com/
Next year's Star Wars MMO, not being developed by BioWare or Sony Online Entertainment, will launch simultaneously for PC and consoles alongside the debut of the first Star Wars TV series in fall 2009, of which the storylines of the game will tie into. Those Artistic Lucases already have a second online title planned that I've heard has nothing to do with Star Wars.
And...
Some more about the last two words of this blog's title. Star Wars Galaxies will shut down within a year after the release of the new MMO. The Artistic Lucases think that they have the only IP that can pose a serious challenge World of Warcraft and find that the setting of KOTOR is too niche to be a threat. They apparently expect the new Star War MMO to have at least three million subscribers by the end of the first year. As previously mentioned (http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.com/2007/12/december-tenth-things.html), some Edmonton studio is doing some Star Wars RPG about some knights in some old republic.

I've accidently become a rebel lol Was trying to stay neutral.

04-02-2008, 04:06 PM
yeah if you follow the quests and missions it either leads you to Rebs or Imps. I suppose thats a convienent way to set things up for everyone becoming part of the Galactic Civil War, but I'd really like to see the "neutral" side as being an option in SWG as well, but thats just me being way to picky...

Hey, Ive been thinking of getting this, can you work for the Hutts?
Zedekk
04-07-2008, 02:25 PM
unfortunatly, no, not directly in the way that I know your asking about. You get missions from Hutts and you can get reputation points for or agaisnt Hutts provided you kill their enemies and such, but actually working for the Hutts no. You can fly missions for the "neutral" side but they aren't always Hutts, and the only missions you get for smuggling andsuch would be if you are a smuggler and then you get approached by various characters on Space ports who ask if you are interested in a "job" thats as close as you can get, short of starting a guild which you can tailor to act like you work for Hutts. Try it out see if you like the game, but if you are really init to just work for the Hutts you might be disappointed.:)
