Hello all,

Well the NFL season is due to kick off again in September 2003 and I'd like to collate your views as to who you think will be good this year. What you think will happen. Who will be the starting quaterback for the Ram and other such topics like this.

Also, I am in the UK and don't get to hear a lot of the news as to who is going where. I heard that Emmit Smith has left the Cowboys but will be back in another team, do we know who. Steve Mariuchhi (probably incorrectly spelt) is off to the Lions and of course Parcells is heading up the Cowboys. Do you think the Cowboys will be a team to reckon with? Personally I say no but I believe that within a few years that Parcell can turn them around to be a strong contender again.

Keep me updated on developments within the NFL and let me hear your thoughts and views on the upcoming season.

As a lasting comment, may I simply say... Go Dolphins !!

Ahhhh.....a topic I can sink my teeth into!

Alan RJ, to answer your questions:
1- Kurt Warner has been named as the starting QB of the Rams.
2- Emmit Smith has indeed left the Cowgirls and is negotiating with the Arizona Cardinals.
3- Although it's hard to say that hiring Bill Parcells is not a good move, it may be just that in Dallas. Jerry Jones doesn't like to relinqush power, and Parcells likes to have a good deal of power. That could lead to problems in big 'D'.

Other news:
-WR David Boston signed with San Diego
-Buffalo traded WR Peerless Price to Atlanta for a first round draft pick.
-DE Hugh Douglas is close to signing with Jacksonville.
-QB Jake Plummer signed with Denver.
-RB Stephen Davis signed with Carolina.
-CB Terrell Buckley signed with your Miami Dolphins!

That's just some of the offseason news in the NFL for you. Hope that helps. Any other questions, just ask. I love talking football!!!!!!!!

Why on Earth would they give Warner the starting position for the Rams, he was terrible and what really grates me is that he lost all of his starting games then gets injured, they replace him and the backup wins the next 5 matches. Then and if any great wisdom can answer this then I'm listening, they bring back Warner who starts losing again! Why? Why?

If Warner starts losing again this season then his days are surely over.

hey back up there mister kurt warner bad. what planet have you been on he has been injured all of last season that is why we never saw him. just b/c he hasnt played at all doesnt mean he all the sudden became horrible at football. ya know something that just hit me i am a girl arguing about football with a couple of guys hmmm.

What I don't understand is if he is so injured then why put him back on active roster last year when the backup was playing great and Warner was not.

ummm maybe b/c warner has a lot more experience than the backup has and maybe b/c the coach likes warner better than the other guy. but that is just my opinion.

Ok, here's the deal on Warner and the Rams.
-He was injured for most of last season to begin with, so that hurt his play.
-I think almost half of his interceptions were results of either someone running the wrong route or a tipped ball, not entirely his fault.
-The defense wasn't nearly as good, so the team was behind more often.
-With the team trailing more often, Marshall Faulk wasn't as much of a factor. With Faulk neutralized, defenses keyed in on the pass, and took advantage of an injured Warner.
-Warner also stunk last year.

On the flip side, Marc Bulger had excellent stats and the Rams won every game he started. So why does Warner get the nod? A couple of reasons:
1- Loyalty. Mike Martz really likes him.
2- Track record. 2 MVPs, 2 Superbowl apperances (1 win) in 3 plus years. Not to mention the eye-popping stats.
3- Apparently the game plan was 'dumbed' down for Bulger, and once Warner gets healthy next year, there should be no comparison.
4- The Rams have recently paid Warner about an $8 million roster bonus. That probably has a lot to do with it as well.

So there you go, hope that helps. Personally, I think it's a mistake. They should have an open competition in camp.

I think its a mistake as well and I was under the impression that the QB job was up for grabs during the offseason, guess I was wrong.

Warner is a great QB and yes, he was injured and not on his game last year but I think it is unfair to say that the interceptions were people running wrong routes or a bad defence. If you take that opinion then how come Marc Bulger done so well when he was on the field. He won games and in a nutshell thats what it all comes down to. Loyalty is a great thing but if loyalty means you lose games and don't make it to the Superbowl then thats wrong. Personally I believe that Martz should've told Warner last season that he was injured and for the good of the team, they would go with Bulger. If he was any kind of sportsman he would've understood. If they had kept Warner off the field and Bulger on then they would have been a stronger contender.

I do hope that Warner is fully fit this year as he is a QB to contend with.

Overall, I feel as though it came down to money. Warner is getting paid way too much to ride the pine, and has too much potential to let go as well.
Other NFL news, the Eagles are negotioiating with restricted free agent DE Kiamila Ga Biamiala from Green Bay. I don't have a clue how to spell that name or how to say it, but I hope that the birds are able to strike a deal with him.

I think it would be great for my Eagles. Now that Hugh Douglas is a Jaguar, they are certainly in need of a qualified pass rusher.

I'm not sure which star you're referring to, but the Chargers should be pretty damn good this season.
