So what kinds of things do people post in these "defense force" threads?

You could try reading the other ones, but I don't think the OT needs a defense force, it isn't wildly criticised.
No one really bashes the OT exept for the ewoks.

Come on people, stand up and be counted among those who feel the original versions of the Trilogy are the best!

Well, first you need to organize Squadrons. You can't use Rogue Squadron, cuz that's taken by the EUDF. I'd suggest using Red and Gold for the first couple of squadron names. You could claim Red Leader right now, while no one is looking, Justin. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
I like the OT. That's why I've been signing all those petitions every one has been linking to. I want them on DVD. I do watch them. Once in a while. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif
But I kind of have to agree with Bond. No one widely criticized the OT, so it really doesn't need a defense force. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hehe.gif

I highly doubt you will get enough support to pull this through Justin.

I don't believe the OT needs a defense force either as everyone loves the OT, it is the PT that has everyone 50-50 for and against it.

Justin:
Mostly two things:
1/ Calls for help when what they love is under attack.
2/ People arguing over what their "rank" will be.

Maybe not a defense force, but a group of folks that simply agree that the unaltered versions were the best. No bashing, but hey, maybe we could get t-shirts and have candy bar sales (the people at my work will buy anything).
No, seriously, I'm with you that all the SE stuff was just eye candy. Perhaps I missed something big, but I didn't see any story changing additives.
The UOT (Unaltered Original Trilogy) was the SW I fell in love with. That's the one that will always be cherished above all others.
Count me in. I'm proud to be part of a group like this. Although I share feelings and unofficial ties to others, this is the group I'll put my name into.

May I remind you that the original versions of the Classic Triogy don't need defending. This stuff sells itself.

That's fair comment, but since other far inferior SW fare has their own supporters, it only seems fair. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Yeah but all the fans support the unaltered versions, whether or not they also like the SE.
However based on the horrid quality of my unaltered OT video tapes (and do I dare say all of yours as well) the SE is quiet a bit better, technically speaking.

Technically speaking it is better than the OT but it is storywise worse than the OT (points out Greedo shooting first).

What we need is a lovely DVD version of the originals.

If someone will spot me a DVD burner, I can burn from my OT tapes. They're in pretty good condition....perhaps selling candy bars might not be a bad idea.... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

Well you know what, after I'm done with college, I'll buy the nesseccary equipment, and I'll make you all unaltered OT dvd's free of charge, except for shipping and handling........maybe.
But I for one am an optimist, I think GL might include the unaltered OT on the DVD, because GL hinted at releasing it again back in 97' but stricktly for edjucational value, to show exactly what was changed and everything else to the new generations of fans.

The unaltered OT is the best, with one exception: Ever since ROTJ came out, I never liked the hologram shot of the Emperor in ESB. And I was very surprised that his appearance was not changed in the SE of ESB to match what the Emperor in ROTJ looked like. That "error" is even more evident now that we've seen Darth Sidious in the PT. But, except for that one personal pet peeve, the unaltered OT ROCKS!!

It's a fair point Mothman.
I'm not in favour of messing about with the classics but I too was surprised that wasn't altered in the SE of ESB.

Unfortunately, GL doesn't agree with us. In a recent "news brief" in our local paper, there was a mention about the petition for the OT DVD to come out in the original, unaltered form. However, as you've probably heard, GL considers the Special Editions to be the definitive versions of the OT.

The Emperor from ESB bothered me when it wasn't fixed as well. That said, one of biggest beefs about the SE was that they didn't clean up the shoddy lightsaber effects in ANH. Man, they need work.
