We all know that Mace is strong ,But who trained him? Did he really die in the fall? When did he create Vaapad and why? And what is with the Purple lightsaber?

I think he was Dooku's Padawan Learner. and Dooku was, likewise, Yoda's.

Count Dooku taught both Mace and Qui-Gon? From the Wikipedia site, it seems that both Yoda and a Jedi Master named T'ra Saa had taught Mace, but he became the Padawan learner of another unamed Jedi Master.

Dooku's padawan was only Qui-Gon

Mace is the only one to sucessful master Vaapad without turning to the darkside, a couple of Jedi have mastered it but have turned.

I checked different, sites and the only two masters mentioned in training Mace were Yoda and Plo Koon

Doh - my error regarding Mace/Dooku-
but interesting, that while many criticize Obi Wan's lack of ability to train Anakin "like Yoda would have" to contemplate what happened to Yoda's Padawan Learner.....Dooku

Mace's apprentice's Depa Billaba was the other but in the end she fell to the dark side on Mace's home world and then a coma. The EU book Shatterpointis all about this. Wikipedia Entry below:

I found out that Mace Windu's master was a Myrkr Master by the name of
T'ra Saa.

So I think that T'ra Saa was also a master of vaapad.

Either that or she pushed the limits of form VII or Juyo untilshe created Vaapad.

What is even stranger is that although Yoda had suspicions that Anakin would prove to be a danger to the Order, he had no such feelings that Dooku would also have a negative impact.

^ Does anyone else ever get the impression that Yoda knows more than he ever let on? It just seemed to me like sometimes he almost knew that whatever they did, the prophecy was going to happen, in some way. Like, when the Jedi Council agreed that Obi-Wan should train Anakin, Yoda said 'agree with this decision I do not'. When he ran rather than fighting Sidious, it was like he knew that whatever he did he would not defeat him at that point. Having said that of course there were plenty of times during the OT whe it seemed as if he did not have the faith in Luke, in him not turning to the darkside.

Mace on the other hand, although he could detect 'shatterpoints', I think he always spoke of everything he knew and didn't hold anything back. There isn't much explicit evidence for my opinion, just a feeling I get. :scratchchin:

Hey I heard mace fought Grievous is there any truth to this?

Jedi Master Harrison

^ It is mentioned in ROTS novelisation. Apparently Grevious adapted to counter Mace's Vaapad style very well. I don't know any more than that though I'm afraid.

It is also the reason for Grevious' voice being raspy. Mace had used a force crush on the chest plates. They also fought twice.

Here is a link detailing the fights. One is above the title Battle of Coruscant and the other below.

Fish - i think Yoda did have an inkling about Dooku. If you like EU stuff, anyway. In Dark Rendezvous, Dooku remembers Yoda telling him: "When you fall, catch you I will."

Not if. WHEN.
I agree that Yoda knows way more than he lets on. Some of it is stuff us "younglings" just wouldn't get.

Exactly what were the circumstances surrounding Yoda's words? Your answer seem a little vague to me. And if Yoda had sensed an "inkling" of dark future for Dooku, why did he not object to Dooku's training in the Jedi Order, as he had done Anakin? Don't forget that Dooku had yet to become a Sith around the time of TPM.

I think this was due to Dooku's disenchantment with the Jedi Order arriving after he was fully trained..... and actually I think Yoda also said that the door was always open for his return...

Darill Cyllem

That's my understanding, lovelucas. Fish, the circumstance was a bit complex to explain here, but if i can really generalize the conversation was about Dooku's relationship with the Force. Dooku was 2-3, i think, when he was chosen for Jedi training. Significantly younger than Anakin when A. first came to the Temple, though older than most Jedi recruits.
I think Yoda likes to expect the best of all his students. After all, the future is always in motion....
