I recently purchased the limited edition of A New Hope, which contained the theatrical and digitally remastered versions. Naturally I watched the theatrical, because, of course, Han Shot First in the theatrical. Then I decided to watch the scene where han shot second, and discovered that in the remastered version, there's an extra scene where Han talks to Jabba right after, which wasn't in the theatrical. Can someone explain to me where the mysterious appearing scene came from?

You are still watching the Special Edition. It was redone in 1997.

But i thought i was watching the theatrical version..I got the limited edition DVD(although of course everyone knows that it's not actually 'limited' and limited editions are nothing special).

The Special Edition was shown in theaters in 1997. I don't have any of the DVDs so I don't have any idea what is on which ones, but someone reading this will.

When George decide to release the movies for the 20th anniversary, technology had improved so he went and completed the scene which was shot back in 1977. In the box set issued 2 years ago, he mentions in the doco specials on the bonus disc that he always wanted Jabba to be a creature and not human. He only budget had enough to shoot it with a human standing in for Jabba and no way to insert the creature afterwards. George had the man digitally removed and a slimmer Jabba added. Also it was at this point he made Han step on Jabba's tail. Han originally just walked around without stepping up.

So the disc you have, one is the original theatrical release (almost since the original film masters were cut up and this is the laserdisc version use to make this dvd) and the special edition which has also been reworked since it's released in 1997.

If you watch all of them, you'll notice more differences that just that. Some are subtle, like the background scenary in Cloud City in ESB, and some are more obvious like the Jabba scene.

regardless of that...i love them on dvd

especially the original 3...wow its soo awesome...i just love high definition!

looking and mark's beautiful blue eyes!!...wow soooo clear

but uhh....leia......in her metal bikini...and her cinnamon buns and her long braided hair.........meh.....that just totally ruins it!!

hahaha just joking!...im glad george used his "creativity" to re-master
the orignal trilogy....just think....how the prequel tri, logy would look like in the next 30,40,50 years.

hmm..maybe they can alter the prequel trilogy so that it looks like hayden christenson can act. Then my friends won't have a problem with me squeeling every time he comes on screen because i only care about the looks and lightsaber fights.

the good thing about mark hamill is that he can ACT. and of course he's not too terrible looking, especially in black(not to mention Way Cool), but i never looked close enough to notice the blue eyse.

now, the metal bikini could be argued by Sw critics to be an extremely sexist part of the series, and of course I don't really like the cinammon buns. Her hair looked good in ep. 6 during the celebration with the ewoks though.

Let's hope i'll be around to see the prequel trilogy and whatnot else comes out in 50 years(with global warming, war and everything, you never know).

I'm sure they'll keep pumping out "new" versions, as long as we're foolish enough to keep buying them.

Yeah, I'm wondering why George didn't write in any costumes like that for the far more attractive Padme in the prequels...

I was only a kid when the OT was released, but I think it's probably due to the 'sexist' connertations and 'irrelevance' of women wandering around in bikinis. Though as far as I am concerned if you became a slave of someone like Jabba, you probably would end up wearing that kind of thing. Plus, as a guy, beautiful women, scantily clad always brighten up anything!

JackBauer24

Ah, hell.

You know, if I wrote Star Wars, I'd probably have had Padme come from a planet of nudists.

Nah, skinny women are rubbish. Curvy is nice.

AnaSkywalker

I don't mean stick figure skinny I mean all the extra fat hanging out of bikinis can be gross. But let's not get too graphic here.

The metal bikini is the most famous costume of SW. It is reference more in other shows and is in more men fantasies. Darth Vader's suit and Stormtrooper armour are also widely recognised but they don't invoke the comments from non SW fans like the bikini does.

Padme would never have been seen in one since she was a queen and a senator. She was never a slave like Leia. Padme's clothes had to fit the job she had.

Besides, we did get to see the nice and tight white outfit in AOTC, which certainly had its perks, if you know what I mean.

Some guys have mentioned to me they prefer her in her leather bustier with the fire in the background on Naboo.

I did find her outfits in episode 2 to be a little too revealing for a senator, even at a remote lake house.

I think that was precisely the idea behind the Episode 2 white jumpsuit that fit her so tight that you could see her nipples prominantly pushing through the fabric especially in the scene where she and anakin are talking about whether or not to leave Tatooine and go to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan (on the big screen that detail was a lot more noticeable than on the small tv screen). And then having that costume get torn up at the end battle. It showed less skin than the metal bikini, but still, it had a similar effect on us male viewers.

Yes tight white often gives the impression of less clothes.

I actually won a scifi costume parade as Barbarella and I was wearing a white swimsuit with white pantyhose that had holes in them and had fake blood. People said I look like I was wearing less than the previous year when I went as Columbia (Rocky Horror). That time I was wearing a red sequin crop top, small black hotpants and fish net stockings.

I showed less flesh but appeared as the opposite as guys kept telling me.

I got more offers that night as Barbarella than as Columbia.:)

Mm-hmm....well, we'll have to decide that for ourselves. Can you offer any photographic evidence of these costumes? :w00t:

No, the Barbrarella outfit even made the video cover of the con video and it featured for 3 mins on the video.

The pics weren't taken with a digital cam (pics are from 2000 & 2001) so will have to locate them and scan to be able to uploaded.
