What Star Wars map do you use?
I use this one (http://www.imperialsenate.co.uk/map/) (you have to have a Macromedia's Flash Player to use this map), click "open map (http://www.imperialsenate.co.uk/map/open_map.jpg)".

I have 12 and don't want to go through the trouble. Go to Google Images and type in Star Wars maps. I think some of mine I got from there.

I really like that one MandoJF. I've always used www.nav-computer.com or the maps at the beginning of the NJO books.

I now mainly use the one in the WotC RPG-book Revised Core Rulebook, as well as the Dark Horse poster-map. And I often consult the following:

I think the best maps can be found in the Inside the Worlds of...books. The fan made maps, which themselves are based on older official maps, disregards the newer higher canon evidence regarding the locations of a few key planets (the AOTC map which showed that Geonosis and thus Tatooine is located on the very end of a spiral arm) and the location of Naboo (the very edge of the galaxy).

I agree with you Master Magnus. Though I still enjoy any map.

What higher-canon evidence is that? I've never seen a map that have those three planets out on the edges...
Btw, Cydon, I really like the one you posted, which I've now saved onto my computer, and I realize kinda shows the things MM had noted.

Well, we do know that Geonosis and Tatooine were located very close to each other and the yacht map showed the location of Geonosis (http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/dvd/aotc%7E/1pcaway3.jpg) and the appearance of the GFFA. The Naboo quote can be found in the novelization of TPM. I still applaud the fan made maps for all the work that went in to them and the excellent research and I still use them.

I primarily use the map from http://www.nav-computer.com, as mentioned by Darth Solo. I just wish I could figure out some computer stuff so I could make a large printout of the map I have downloaded from there. I tried once and I only managed to get a small corner of the thing.
I like that map that MJF starts us out with. Very cool, but hard to print out. :tease:

Hmm. Odd that Lucas would put it out there on the very end. There seems to be no reason!
Braden Dar

Some of the locations seem to be a matter of Lucas' not knowing what he was doing when he started out and just ramming everything into a box to make it fit.
Initially, he likely thought (though I would never dare to say that he DID think) that a lot of things, like the Core worlds, would be a matter of a couple hours from the furthest reaches of wild space. But after all of the re-dos, he may have changed his mind. That would have forced him to put things further out from the Core and make a new backstory for them.
I mainly refer to the OT, though. His take on the galaxy and how it is assembled is anyone's guess.
Look at Hoth and Bespin. They are so close to one another on the big maps, yet so far apart. Sometimes, its a matter of scale how we see things.
Then there's the matter of our own planet. Its on the outer end of one of the limbs of our own galaxy. Maybe he was throwing it back to that. That we needn't look at the Outer Rim as "backwater", but as people not unlike ourselves.
Or maybe he was just running out of room to shove all of his planets into the Core worlds. Who knows.
I find it amusing some of the worlds in close galactic proximity to each other. Kashyyyk and Nal Hutta and Bothawui as an example. Spitting distance from each other, yet all so very different.
And maybe GL was trying to say that the humans aren't all some exclusive community devoid of other races. You know, a statement on our diversity on Earth.
But it could just be that he wanted to spread things out so as to fill in the gaps later with things he merchandise and make another fortune off of selling. Again...who knows.

Very strange. Sometimes GL really confuses me.

M 10-Alderaan
N 11-Cato Neimoidia
O 17-Naboo
P 9-Kashyyyk
R 17-Tatooine
R 17-Geonosis
N 19-Utapau
K 5-Mygeeto
R 6-Felucia
S 8-Seleucami
L 19-Mustafar
P 6-Yavin 4
K 18-Hoth
M 19-Dagobah
K 18-Bespin
H 16-Endor
S 14-Kamino
K 20-Polos Massa

I wouldn't take that map so seriously as it places Tatooine and Geonosis on other places than they were located in the AOTC map. The official Star Wars Fact Files map and the maps inside Complete Locations are far better official representations (althought Modi's map is good for EU locations).

This one seems like a retouched version of the map formerly found on nav-computer. Which I should mention, I can not get http://www.nav-computer.com to come up. It would appear that the website is no longer functional as is. Is this the case, or has there simply been a change to the site's address or something?
Anyways, it was the first map-site I found and thusly holds a spot at the top of my short list. It's kind of like FFVII. It wasn't great, it had lots of shortcomings, but it was first.
Anyways, I have saved all of the downloadable maps that have been posted here, and they'll become a key resource throughout my EU adventuring.

Yes, that map is by far the map which most accurately depicts the location of Tatooinem Geonosis and Naboo (the only planets we know the locations from the higher canon). We know from AOTC that Geonosis and Tatooine are located at the edge of a spiral arm but the makers of the fan made maps keeps insisting that they're located near the central bulge. The "Unknown Regions" are also way too large. As this map shows, that's not the case. The only criticism I can think of about the map in the Locations books is that they're inverted (but if you'd look from the SW galaxy from 'below', it would be accurate).
