ugh i am in a dilemma and if anyone could help me, i would truly appreciate it.

I was at best buy searching for empire at war, and i found a PC game called "The Best of Star Wars" and it has Empire at War, Battlefront, KOTOR I, Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Republic Commando.

basically this is kickass.

However, before I use up my hard earned money, I am wondering if anyone knows any other information about it, such as how many discs there are?? I searched on 3 different sites and all it says is: 5 GAMES IN 1!

I am worried b/c I want to upload each game individually so that way my weak computer won't crash. Also, does anyone think the price will ever drop down? It's actually not that bad... about 40 dollars or so, but I bought the Sims Complete for only 25 dollars! And also, if I did buy this, could I still use an expansion pack for Empire at War? If anyone can help and tell me if it's a good investment now, or if I should wait, I would greatly appreciate it!

This info is from the OS...
http://starwars.com/gaming/videogames/news/news20061115.html

This exciting new compilation will be released this month, and will be available only for the holiday 2006 season for a suggested price of $39.99.

Combined, the games have sold millions of copies worldwide and, for the first time, are available in one box.
The bolded areas might shed some light ... not sure

Hm... so I'm guessing that means 39.99 is as low as it's going to go...

Also I'm guessing this means I better buy it between now and Dec 31st????

AGH! THAT'S NOT ENOUGH TIME!

40 dollars is very cheap for those games in my opinion. I paid over a hunderd dollars on all of them.
The games are definitley worth it.

Course it is. I spent 50 buck on BFI and 20 bucks on RC. Thats 70 for just two of the five.

i say this b/c if it doesn't give you the option to load each game separately then I won't have enough room on my computer...

i got sims complete and it was HUGE and it slowed down my computer so much b/c you couldn't install each expansion pack separately and i ended up having to delete the whole thing off my computer.

I don't know. I'll look into it.

From scattered reports on the net, I have found it is 5 discs. I am not positive though.

I just bought it. Well worth the buy. BTW, it has 3 discs. I with Empire at War and KOTOR, one with BFI, RC and Outcast and one with the 14 day free Galaxies Trial. Hope that helps. Sorry about the above post.

I downloaded the Star Wars Galaxies trial once. It was so dire I deleted it after a few hours. Well, not including the hour it took to update itself.

Talking about huge, Microsoft Flight Simulator X is 14 GB. They somehow compressed it onto 2 4.7 GB DVDs. Now thats huge...

hm... that works out pretty well then, since the two games i really wanted to play were empire at war and kotor. i got one of my friends to splurge for me and buy it, so they are keeping it until i'm out of school so my gaming time doesn't affect my studies.

thanks a lot!!

EAW and KotOR are very good.

kotor is funt to play many times (at least for me) and EAW: you should go to ultimate-eaw.com (http://ultimate-eaw.com) for a really cool mod (has SSDs, dreadnaughts, and much more)

Btw, I just downloaded Empire at War. When you insert the disc you choose what game you want downloaded.

huttslime

Download? Downloading is internet stuff, not CD/DVD stuff. You would say installed, copied, or uploaded for CD/DVD stuff.

Cydon

Get used it to huttslime. I downloaded onto my computer. The only downside to this game is the lack of manuals. There only on PDF files.

Darth Darthy
01-09-2007, 01:04 AM
Seriously? You have to download the game rather then install it from disc?!? That's no good if your on metered bandwidth like everyone in the UK is. Of course I don't live there anymore so I don't really care, but still - why pay and have the discs in the first place? Somewhere, I can hear the Mininova servers cranking up a notch. Just listen faintly and you might hear it...

So is there a program that downloads the files, do you install it from a CD, or did you download it illegaly? Or download legaly with a legal product activation key?

Darth Darthy

It's a valid point though. Why pay if you have to download the content anyway? This is the problem I have with downloadable content. I can pirate stuff of Bit Torrent for free, WAIT for that content and then crack it. If I purchase something, I want it there and then. I don't want to have to wait for the download to complete. Steam & Telltale are different because you don't pay $40 per game.

Cydon

YOU WIN!!! YOU INSTALL THE GAME!!! NOT DOWNLOAD IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough! I have SW The Best of PC, and I would like to cut the #^$% and just present the facts.

1) the set is still in stores. After all, plenty of copies were made, and the whole "available only for holiday '06" stuff is just a marketing gimick. On this you can trust me, as I am a marketing major and frequent store and online purchaser of SW goods.

2: The set is only on DVD ROM, meaning that your computer must have a DVD drive in order to play the set.

3: There are three discs in the box: disc one (KOTOR & EaW)
disc 2 (Jedi Outcast, Rep. Commando, SW Battlefront), and disc three (a 14 day trial of SW Galaxies)

4: installation is very fast, due to the games being on DVD rather than CD ROM

5: the manuals are all included in Adobe PDF format, so they can be altered, printed, edited, ect. Essentially, it is a way of letting you have as many copies of the manuals as you will need.

6: the insert in each set contains your registration codes. DO NOT LOSE THE INSERT, unless you have the codes written down.

7: The registration of the games is reccommended to be done over high speed internet, and is somewhat necessary.

8: The games are fully complete, with all online content also available.

9: The SW Galaxies disc is only a demo, and requires high speed internet.

10: just because the set retails for 40 dollars, does not mean that is a definite. Shop around, and you might be surprised at what youll find. I was.

11: This collection is pretty much the only place to get new copies of some of the included games from a store, especially KOTOR.

12: Nothing much else, except that I cannot wait for the next collection (assuming they make one)

13: One final thing: it is definitely worth buying.

Massacrus out. (havent typed that in a while)

You forgot something: On EAW, the map editor doesn't work.

I think there is a couple of games they could have put on it but its a really good buy for those who havent got it yet.

Darth Massacrus
03-28-2007, 09:40 PM
hmm. it worked on mine, but then again, I had EaW installed previously, and simply now use the DVD Rom version of it cuz its faster. Maybe you couuld try this, (if possible). Otherwhise, I got nothing

Cydon
04-06-2007, 05:00 PM
So I got to go out and buy EaW again?

Darth Darthy
04-10-2007, 05:34 AM
No. The version your playing should be patched to support the map editor and any levels associated with it. I know EAW definitely requires a patch in order to be compatible with the level editor and maps. I'm surprised they released an updated disc without these patches. But LucasArts aren't exactly the Day of the Tentacle company that we once knew.

woohoo i finally got to open this! one of my friends bought it for me around christmas time but won't give it to me on my birthday, meaning after final exams, etc. talk about torture...

anyway, so far i have only installed kotor since that's all i have room for on my computer. i'm a little bit disappointed though b/c this is the first time i have played kotor but i played kotor 2 and completed it already. its cool seeing people that i saw in the 2nd one but at the same time i really wish i had played the first one first!

a few questions... does your vitality not increase with using a medpac? also is there anyway you can set it so after you've checked remains or a foot locker it says it's empty instead of having to check it again and waste your time? just wondering since that's how it is like in the second game.

Jedi Knight II isn't nearly as good as Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight.

this game is totally worth buying. If you bought all the games in it separately, it would cost around 70 dollars.

luke
07-19-2007, 12:54 PM
I actually ended up buying most of the games separately because I already had half the games in that before I heard about it. but I agree it's got to be worth buying you save so much money for so many games! and also the expansion no doubt will work cause otherwise ppl would be pissed.

How quickly games age. None of the games in this pack are worth that price nowadays and this "Limited Christmas time only" offer has extended to "forever".
Marketing goes a long way, eh?

&#!#!&% yeah my friend snatched it for me quick in december for 40 bucks and now it's on amazon for 35. sure that's only 5 dollars... but that 5 dollars could have bought me a damn movie ticket.
