View Full Version : The Rakatans

Anybody want to have a discussion about rakatans?

In the New Essential Chronology it says that they invented the hyperdrive, and that you had to be force sensitive to use it.

Their planet was in the unknown regions, I was wondering why they explored the star wars galaxy, and didn't go in a different direction to explore the universe.

Maybe they did, but nobody wrote a story about it...

Darth Massacrus
12-02-2006, 10:52 PM
you better believe I would love to discuss the Rakatans! What would you like to know?

huttslime
12-02-2006, 11:00 PM
Do you know why it doesnt mention Manaan in the New Essential Chronology?

Darth Massacrus
12-02-2006, 11:05 PM
Manaan was apparently just another Rakatan world. I do not believe that the Rakatans were responsible for turning it into an ocean world, as that seems to have happened later on.

huttslime
12-02-2006, 11:08 PM
but the book talks about slaves, but doesnt mention the selkath.

Darth Massacrus
12-02-2006, 11:12 PM
the game, in the Dantooine ruins, the Ancient Overseer droid speaks Selkath. You can ask the droid if the Builders were Selkath, and you get a response like "the Selkath were slaves of the Builders".

huttslime
12-02-2006, 11:14 PM
I'm was talking about the New Essential Chronology!

Talking about dantooine, in KotOR 2, what do you do when you finish with the lower ruins?

Konig15
12-02-2006, 11:21 PM
Manaan was ALWAYS an ocean world, the Rakatans built the Star Map underwater. The Selkath were always ocean going.

But I refuse to believe that the Rakata are extinct. They just "couldn't find others to mate with" is bunk. Espeically as concerned leaders could easily have used artifical insimination techinques to repopulate the speices if push came to shove. They're still out there. Before the EU burns itself out they'll be a Rakatan Jedi, mark my words.

huttslime
12-02-2006, 11:23 PM
a disease stripped the rakatans of their force sensitivity, so there cant be rakatan jedi.

Konig15
12-02-2006, 11:26 PM
It was comin back; I beleive the Priest caste historian in KOTOR was Force sentisive enough to be noticed, as well as the One.

huttslime
12-02-2006, 11:35 PM
ill have to play the game again and check that out...

Darth Massacrus
12-02-2006, 11:46 PM
that, and the computer in the Temple of the Ancients had the genetic code for Rakatans, and Revan retireved it. As the Rkatans did rejoin the galaxy, and did reacquire Force sensitivity, I truly do hope the Rakatan species will one day reemerge...

huttslime
12-02-2006, 11:48 PM
does anyone know what happened to revan after kotor?

Konig15
12-02-2006, 11:49 PM
When out looking for the "True Sith Empire"

huttslime
12-02-2006, 11:52 PM
the massasi stuff or the really old sith species?

by the way is there any sith (not the darth siths, the species) left after the sith era?

Darth Massacrus
12-02-2006, 11:53 PM
go to the Kotor III thread for some of my theories as to what happens after K2TSL...

Cydon
12-02-2006, 11:56 PM
Oh no. You got Darth started. Now ths thread is never gonna stop!!

Darth Massacrus
12-03-2006, 12:01 AM
Cyde! good to see ya! Now getting back to the Rakatan species...

Cydon
12-03-2006, 06:47 PM
Besides from the illustration in the Chronology, what do they like!?!?!?!?

huttslime
12-03-2006, 06:56 PM
what do you mean "what do they like" ?

Cydon
12-03-2006, 06:58 PM
*Ahem* sorry, what do they look like?

huttslime
12-03-2006, 07:00 PM
thats what I was thinking the question was.

well, they have eyes on the side of their head, greenish/brownish skin, wear clothing that looks a little egyptian,

anything i missed?

Cydon
12-03-2006, 07:27 PM
Like the Go'auld in Stargate LOL.

huttslime
12-03-2006, 07:40 PM
thats right (especially the neckpiece)

Cydon
12-03-2006, 07:52 PM
You like Stargate SG-I?

huttslime
12-03-2006, 07:55 PM
I watched saw most of the seasons (1, 3, 4, 5, and some other episodes. My friend has almost every season on DVD)

Cydon
12-03-2006, 08:08 PM
I'm been driven crazy. I can't afford to buy them and only Season 1&2 are at the Library. I've seen each episode 14 times. Anyway, about the Rakatans...

huttslime
12-03-2006, 08:20 PM
I couldnt buy them all either... (that person has a million dvds at his house though, I dont know how they get so many)

Cydon
12-03-2006, 08:21 PM
Mut be a doctor. lol (no offense)

Darth Massacrus
12-03-2006, 09:46 PM
a Rakatan Prison Box:

huttslime
12-03-2006, 09:50 PM
dont open it though...

you will get sucked in.

Darth Massacrus
12-03-2006, 09:52 PM
oh. THAT box. -Motta the Hutt

huttslime
12-03-2006, 09:53 PM
Did you open it?

Darth Massacrus
12-03-2006, 09:55 PM
of course! I got to meet and defeat the ancient Warlord within!

huttslime
12-03-2006, 09:59 PM
In kotor 2, what do you do after you finish the lower ruins in the dantooine enclave?

Cydon
12-03-2006, 10:08 PM
I'm not listening!!!!!

huttslime
12-03-2006, 10:10 PM
what do you mean?

Cydon
12-03-2006, 10:26 PM
I've never played KOTOR. I just ordered it.

huttslime
12-03-2006, 11:14 PM
Well, its a really good game.

Every star wars fan in the world should play it at least once.

(i played it 3 times!)

Cydon
12-03-2006, 11:16 PM
Don't worry, I plan to.

huttslime
12-03-2006, 11:22 PM
do you play battlefront one?

Cydon
12-03-2006, 11:31 PM
Of course! I love it! Last stands rock! One against 150! It is possible with a health and ammo droid nearby. Theres stationery last stands, where you stay where you are. (Yavin 4 ) (Rhen Var) (Mos Eisley at the Hangar) And theres run around last stands. (Dune Sea) (Bespin Platforms)

huttslime
12-03-2006, 11:46 PM
the once in a lifetime score i got was 92-24-0, in a multiplayer game, Jabbas palace. That was maybe a week or two ago.

Cydon
12-03-2006, 11:55 PM
Heres a trick, on BF2, play 1 flag CTF on the Death Star play as the Rebels. Be Luke Skywalker. Final score for me: 250-783-0. Kill score resets sometime after 250, so don't press it. I did. I was so upset. Then I did it again. As Luke, stand in the Fire Control Room, by the ramp of there base (in 1 flag CTF) and Force push the stormtroopers (and sometimes the Emperor) into the firing mechanism!!!! LOL!!!! The only thing is, they don't count the kills to you.

huttslime
12-03-2006, 11:59 PM
i dont have bf2, sadly.

but i heard its not as good as bf1

Cydon
12-04-2006, 12:28 AM
Didn't you say Jabbas Palace?

Darth Massacrus
12-04-2006, 01:51 AM
getting back to the Rakatans...

huttslime
12-04-2006, 04:19 PM
Didn't you say Jabbas Palace?

yes (its in the bf1 update.)

Darth Massacrus
12-04-2006, 10:25 PM
the Rakatans are the great masters of the galaxy, none can stand against their might and the power of the Star Forge- the Overseer

Cydon
12-05-2006, 12:58 AM
Thanks, huttslime. I have it on XBOX without XBOX Live. About the Rakatans, they resemble taskmasters to me. Very strict. Like the Vong in some ways.

Darth Massacrus
12-05-2006, 03:41 PM
Cyde: when you play through the Unknown World in Kotor, do you do the return the DNA sidequest?

Cydon
12-05-2006, 07:34 PM
I don't have it yet...just ordered it!!!!!!

Darth Massacrus
12-05-2006, 07:39 PM
oh. ah well, trust me, you'll love it!

As for the Rakatans, perhaps some stayed true to the species nature and later embraced the Darkside?

Cydon
12-05-2006, 07:50 PM
And maybe they were the ones who displaced the Vong! We'll never know...unless someone decide to write about them.

Darth Massacrus
12-05-2006, 07:52 PM
There really ought to be a novel about the end of the Infintite Empire. Perhaps one of the main characters could be the imprisoned Warlord from the Rakatan Prison Box that Darth Revan later sold to Motta the Hutt...

Cydon
12-05-2006, 10:12 PM
That would be cool!

huttslime
12-05-2006, 11:01 PM
Maybe another of the staff will write a book on that. (just like darth bane)

Darth Massacrus
12-06-2006, 01:09 AM
while we're on the subject of things Rakatan, what happenned to the Star maps? and were any ever found on some of the OTHER planets that the Rakatans enslaved?

Cydon
12-06-2006, 07:50 PM
Two words: Unknown Regions

huttslime
12-06-2006, 08:07 PM
What I think: The only planets that havethe Star Maps are the ones in kotor, if there were more you wouldnt have been able to find the star forge.

Cydon
12-06-2006, 08:30 PM
oh.

Darth Massacrus
12-06-2006, 09:16 PM
oh.................I dont think so. The Star Maps were built upon all the conquered worlds of the Infinite Empire. And because 'over 500' planets were 'members' of The Infinite Empire, a Star Map would have been buillt on each world. This is mentioned by some of the Rakatan droids and The Historian Orsaa in Kotor. Each map showed the expanse of the whole Empire, and at the center of it the Star Forge. But when the Infinite Empire fell, the Star Maps were sabotaged by both Rakatan and slave species, but over the millennia slowly repaired and regenerated, as they were made with the same technology as the Star Forge itself was. Makes me wonder: what Star Maps are still out there and what state of repair are they in?

huttslime
12-06-2006, 09:30 PM
BUT.... as I said, didnt you need all of the Star Maps to find the Star Forge's location? If there were 500, it would have taken a lot longer.

... and, if what you say is true, what planets do you think were altered by the Rakatans? Maybe Dagobah, although it is in the wrong side of the Galaxy.

Darth Massacrus
12-06-2006, 09:35 PM
actually, as the Star Maps were already each partly complete by the time of Lord Revan, all one would need to do is find some that have coordinates others didnt, which is exactly what happenned...

huttslime
12-06-2006, 09:38 PM
I didnt know that...

Darth Massacrus
12-06-2006, 09:42 PM
yep.

huttslime
12-06-2006, 09:46 PM
Yes, that's right.

Absolutely.

Couldn't be more right than that.

Darth Massacrus
12-06-2006, 09:48 PM
Indeed. Makes me wonder : when Darth Revan visited the Temple of the Ancients right before the Battle of the Star Forge, how come he didnt find his own holocron, which Darth Bane did find?

huttslime
12-06-2006, 09:49 PM
Because he made it after the battle.

Darth Massacrus
12-06-2006, 09:50 PM
nope. He made it while he was Dark Lord of the Sith. after all, it was a Dark Lord's Holocron, not a Jedi one...

huttslime
12-06-2006, 09:54 PM
I'm pretty sure he made it after the battle, when he disappeared, and found out that it is better to only have a master and an apprentice at the same time. ("Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody the power, the other to crave it.")

Darth Massacrus
12-06-2006, 10:03 PM
but Revan did not fall back to the Darkside, as many official material state. Therefore, it was made while he was Dark Lord.

huttslime
12-07-2006, 01:22 AM
They never said that he went to the light side either.

Darth Massacrus
12-07-2006, 02:06 PM
uh, actually, the New Essential Chronology says he did.

Cydon
12-07-2006, 08:37 PM
Where?

huttslime
12-07-2006, 09:47 PM
Actually it says that he was on the republic side, and was on the light side and everything, but he disaaapeared, realizing that it is better to have only 2 sith at a time. Also if he already made the holocron, why would he have wanted so many darl side followers? (I know you are about to say that it was malak with all the followers, but before malak revan asked many people from the jedi to join him. The whole time revan and malak were around they didnt show any evidence that they, or revan specifically, were enlightened of the whole 2 sith at a time deal.) And doesnt it make more sense, that after being isolated from the republic, after the battle of rakata, that he had enough time to figure that out? You will not change my mind unless you have hard evidence.

Darth Massacrus
12-08-2006, 01:44 AM
well, the Battle of Rakata Prime is an official battle, and later generations of Sith would regard it as the Order's greatest defeat.

huttslime
12-08-2006, 06:33 PM
I like your old avatar better.

Darth Massacrus
12-10-2006, 05:24 PM
perhaps another?

Cydon
12-10-2006, 06:21 PM
YES. Another. Please. Want a Nilihus one? Revan? Malak?

Darth Massacrus
12-10-2006, 07:09 PM
no, I'll choose my own, thank you....

huttslime
12-10-2006, 09:30 PM
I really think that the old one was best.

How about a Stormtrooper (Sand Trooper to be exact.)
I just saw it in the ad up top... "Mini Busts - Urban Collector" - Collect your urban now!

Darth Massacrus
12-10-2006, 10:07 PM
getting back to the Rakatans...

huttslime
12-10-2006, 10:13 PM
Well, do you have anything to say about the rakatans?

How about this:

What are those weird towers on that painting of Rakata Prime in the background? They are the only buildings that you can see on the whole planet other than the temple and little hutts. They look giant. (and there is only three of them as far as I can tell.)

Darth Massacrus
12-11-2006, 12:05 AM
They are most likely one of three things: crashed capitol ships from an older era, remains of a city, or remains of a mountain.

huttslime
12-11-2006, 01:27 AM
I don't see how they could be remains of a mountain.

Cydon
12-11-2006, 01:35 AM
Perhaps Planetary Defense Turrets???

Darth Massacrus
01-10-2007, 01:55 PM
no. The Rakatan World, or whatever you want to call it, had a different surface before the Rakatan Warlords unleashed weapons of mass destruction upon the surface. Those spires in the back are likely either crashed ships, ruins, or mountainous remains.

Cydon
01-10-2007, 03:10 PM
 I give up.

Morridini
01-10-2007, 04:40 PM
I always thought they were the towers of a big sunken city, like Atlantis.

Darth Massacrus
01-10-2007, 06:26 PM
In the discussions Revan had with the Rakatan historian Orsaa in KOTOR, it is revealed that when the Rakatans retreated back to thier homeworld, the civil war that broke out amongst the warlords devastated the surface of Rakata Prime. When the Rakata reemerged, they found a new surface, a tropical one. Thier ancient cities and fortresses had become ruins that the sea and jungles would slowly reclaim, and over the coming millennia, numerous ships would crashland onto the surface and oceans, having been struck down by the Star Forges disruptor field. I believe that the spires seen in the horizon are ruined mountains or cities, or capitol ships that fell victim to the disruptor field.

huttslime
01-10-2007, 08:29 PM
It could be capital ships, but unlikely. They looked like the ones the Star Forge spat out. Mountainous remains? I don't see how. Remaining city scape: There are only 3, not enough for a whole city.

Morridini
01-10-2007, 08:32 PM
It could be capital ships, but unlikely. They looked like the ones the Star Forge spat out. Mountainous remains? I don't see how. Remaining city scape: There are only 3, not enough for a whole city.

New York has a lot of buildings, but imagine that it was in a war with billions of explosion and was eventualy flooded. It wouldn't be unreasonable that only three big buildings survived whole enough to poke up above the water.

huttslime
01-10-2007, 08:33 PM
There would at least have been some smaller remains. Maybe this would be a good question to send to the producers.

Morridini
01-10-2007, 08:43 PM
Um, the smaller remains are under water. Thus not viewable.

huttslime
01-10-2007, 10:00 PM
But there has to be at least one remain that isn't the same height as the other ones, but still sticks out of the water. Talking about heights, they all seem to be the same height.

Darth Massacrus
01-10-2007, 11:17 PM
who knows?

Morridini
01-11-2007, 04:10 AM
Maybe because they were so very big they are constructed in a much better way?

Darth Massacrus
01-11-2007, 10:27 AM
entirely possible. But they do resemble crashed capitol ships. Perhaps very very large ones, but still crashed vessels. Or they are remnants of the planets original landscape...

huttslime
01-12-2007, 02:15 AM
Can you -please- explain how it could be landscape if it looks like spaceships? I still don't get that. You've been saying that for a while now.

Cydon
01-12-2007, 11:37 PM
Insane, you all are.

huttslime
01-13-2007, 10:21 PM
Maybe because they were so very big they are constructed in a much better way?

Maybe they were also cunstructed much better just because they were built by the Rakatans?

Insane, you all are.

?

Morridini
01-14-2007, 06:24 AM
Maybe they were also cunstructed much better just because they were built by the Rakatans?

Um what?
We are talking about a Rakatan city (meaning all buildings built by Rakatans) where only three buildings were still visible......

huttslime
01-14-2007, 11:22 AM
What about the Temple, the villages, the star maps, and the star forge?

Morridini
01-14-2007, 12:01 PM
What about them?

huttslime
01-14-2007, 01:13 PM
I don't know.

Darth Massacrus
01-14-2007, 01:38 PM
I think that those 'spires' seen in the background were the remains of either structures, monuments, crashed ships, or something mountainous.

huttslime
01-14-2007, 01:59 PM
I will ask again: How can those sturctures be something mountainous?

Darth Massacrus
01-14-2007, 02:00 PM
again, I will refer to the devastation of Rakata Prime's surface by the warlords and how the landscape was altered by weapons of mass destruction.

huttslime
01-14-2007, 02:01 PM
But it obvioulsy looks like something man made! It just doesn't look natural.

btw - where were you so long for a month?

Darth Massacrus
01-14-2007, 02:04 PM
then perhaps they were monuments built millennia ago by the Rakatans that have weathered over the millennia.... as for where I was, suffice to say I wasnt in a galaxy far far away....

Morridini
04-06-2007, 07:12 PM
Just updating this old thread because I came across something. Regarding wether or not the spires in this picture (from page 5 of this thread) are crashed ships or mountains:
http://www.galacticsenate.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15011&d=1165803224

Well I came across this concept art that shows the spires in better detail and it's much easier to see that thye are in fact ships:

They are crashed ships. If you look all around you, you will see remains of ships all over the landscape. Ships have been crashing there for years due to the tractor beam (or whatever it was) coming from the Rakatan temple. It`s what you have to shut down to get off the planet.
