alright alright. As for the Essential Guide to Planets and Moons entry on Korriban, it depicts an eternal pyre, that is never mentioned anyplace else. Interesting.

Two things I really dislike about the New Essential Guides:

1. The artwork. Way too cartoony and cheesy for me. Just doesn't bode well.

2. If they knew they were releasing a whole series of these things, why didn't they just wait to start releasing them until after ROTS? There is at least one of these (characters, I believe) that is only updated throug AOTC and some of the NJO. I know the books and comics will come out forever, forever making these Essential Guides outdated (thank God for the internet!) but if you are going to publish these things, AT LEAST WAIT UNTIL ALL THE MOVIES ARE OUT!!!

As an aside, this is one thread that is uselessly two pages long, when there are really like four posts relevent to the topic. Luvinna already commented on it and I'm no mod, but I'm gonna say it here too (and don't respond unless it's via PM). STOP SPAMMING! I swear I see people posting one word posts that are useless and distracting, and then conversations that pop up in non-conversation threads. Take it to PM. Take it to AIM. Take it to MSN. It's frustrating.

I agree that the artwork tends to look cartoony. However, I don't mind most of the artwork by Chris Trevas in the New Essential Guide to Alien Species. Most of the guides, however, still look as if they are published for children. In the case of the New Star Wars Chronology, it seems it is dumbed down. I much prefer Nathan's Timeline Gold.

The Essential Guides are still great references though as far as being handy companion books for the EU especially.

I have all of them (first and 2nd editions) lined up on my bookshelf in the livingroom as I find them indispensable for my work on a timeline... (they are right beside the Comics Companion and the RPG books Revised Core Rulebook for hyperspace travel times anfd the Ultimate Alien Anthology!)

I've seen the Star Wars Comics Companion on ebay, is it a reliable and good guide? And I'm gonna get the new essential guide to aliens and chronology for xmas :santa: , it's gonna be sweet!

It's nice, but some of the timeline-dates in the Companion are wrong (and have been updated in EARLIER sources...). It's a nice recap of the DH comics for those who want to know the timeline but do not own all the comics...
