And where does it say that Darth Plagueis was Anakin's father?

This is, I think, one of those bits of information that I don't think George will ever let be difinitely answered, same as Yoda's species and/or homeworld. As he himself did in the movie, he'll allow authors to drop hints and tidbits that will both lend to the belief that he was created by a Sith Lord, or that he was was conceived by the Force itself (my personal belief).

Yeah, he was quoted in an interview (which I can't remember where, of course) where he said that he purposely left 'up in the air' so fans can intrepret that opera house scene as they see fit. That's great, because as soon as I saw it I was convinced that Sidious created him though the midichlorians.

"It is unclear how Palpatine fell under the mentorship of the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis, and little is known of Plagueis's own career. A mystic obsessed with eternal life, Plagueis is believed to have possessed knowledge that could sustain those who were dying, and perhaps even gained the ability to use midi-chlorians to draw new life directly from the wellspring of the Force. His murder of his own Master, Darth Plagueis. The role that the Sith had played in creating Anakin by manipulating the midi-chlorians. [emphasis mine] And the hint that by studying the ways of the Sith, Anakin could learn to conquer death."
