View Full Version : Krogenar's Balderdash Game

Krogenar
02-28-2003, 01:56 PM
Ok, rather than attempt to create something original and cool, or even derivative of another good idea, I'm stealing a great game idea entirely.

Has anyone here ever played a game called 'Balderdash'?
Here's how it works:

A number of players sit down and are given an answer, to a question they have not seen. The questions are arrayed in five categories. Acronyms

Dates

People

Movie Titles

Words
A category is chosen, and the 'answer' is given to all the players. They then have to make up the question that suits the answer they were given. Here's an example.

The acronym is for an organization called HARM.

Every player makes up their own expression of the acronym, and PM's it to me - or whoever's running that round of the game. Then the referee lists all the responses, including the actual answer.

Helical Armored Rotor Manufacturers
etc,

Then each player chooses which answer they think is the 'real' answer. If you choose someone else's made up answer, that person gets a point. If you choose the correct answer, you get 2 points. So it is in each player's best interests to write an answer that is most credible. The actual acronym is typically unknowable - no one could actually guess it - so whomever can bullsh!t the best is most likely to win. Judging from recent threads, the GS has some premiere BS artists in attendance.

The other categories work in a similar way:
For dates, players receive a date, and then make up the reason why that date was remarkable. E.g.: March 13th, 1863 - "Fargus McFeely wins the world record for sitting on top of a flagpole." For movie titles, you have to make up the plot of the film itself. For 'Words' you are given a strange word, and must make up the definition of the word. For 'People' you get someone's name, and make up their reason for being notable.

I'm looking for six players. Anyone interested in trying this out?

Ah, another fine bull flop artiste! Welcome Insightful!
That leaves just one more slot open. Who will it be, hrm?

A few ground rules: Don't cheat. Using the internet to find the 'real' answer is dumb.

Don't tell other people what your answer is - that stinks.

Speedy answers please. PM your responses to me pronto!
I will be cutting and pasting the answers into this thread exactly as they appeared in the PM to me. So if you mispell something, you can be sure that a clever player will spot it, and know it's not the real answer. Another tip: try to disguise your style of writing. That's part of the game - if I read something, and it screamed, "Darth Fabulous wrote this!" then I will not select it. Another tactic: choosing your own answer, to fool other people. This only works if you're among the first people required to vote for an answer. If you're the last person... it's really pointless. I'll determine the order in which we try to select the 'correct' answer by PMing a mod with a random number between 1 and 100. Whoever comes closest to the number goes first, and so on.

Ok one last person, show up....

In the meantime... vote on which category you'd like to start with guys.

is defined as:

#1 ... Aquaman's underwater home where he keeps his bubble making kit.
#2 ... another word for 'nipple'.
#3 ... a food additive used predominately in European countries as a salt substitute.
#4 ... The number of thousands of yards of yarn which weighs one pound.
#5 ... a small, gray, South American rodent.

Please answer as quickly as possible. There will be no changing your answers afterwards. If I see that you edited your response, I'll give you such a spanking! Choose which answer you think is correct. [looks at his watch] You have until midnight EST, when I will return to administrate the answers - or sooner if everyone is around. [A buxon blonde in a string bikini turn over a card that reads...]
"ACRONYMS!"

The acronym for this round is....

... F.H.S.

It represents a real organization.

The Players and their totals thus far:
Kopernikus - a long-time rodeo clown enthusiast and amateur horticulturalist, he's leading the pack at a tremendous 5 points.
Ferris Wiel - did not select the correct answer last round, but he duped Insightful, so take your hat off if you have one - for he has 1 point.
Darth Fabulous - has yet to score, or play.
Darth Insightful - was bamboozled by Ferris, lets see if he can scrape the bottom of his barrel-like soul for a killer answer, and raise his score into the positive range.
Javen - mocked Aquaman the last round, and failed to score. Serves him right.
QuigonWindu - defined 'TYPP' as being a synonym for the word 'nipple', and while he has earned our laughter and pity, he has yet to earn a point.

Each of you PM me with your answer for what this acronym represents.
Keep in mind that you are trying to deceive the other players into believing that your definition is the correct one. Have at it. Once all the definitions are recieved, I will display them all (including the correct answer) and you will each declare which definition you believe to be correct.

[Krogenar returns, completely nude, with only some $100 bills covering his naughty bits.]

Since I won't wait for QuigonWindu, let's see what you've won!

F.H.S.

stands for:

#1 ... Federal Homeland Security
#2 ... Football Hall of Shame
#3 ... Family History Society
#4 ... Fin Haerts' Syndrome
#5 ... Fairbanks Horticultural Society
#6 ... Famous Horse Saddles

Kopernikuz, let's see, you chose answer #3, and I'm so happy to tell you that you selected Darth Insightful's answer! I'm so sorry!
Darth Insightful garners 1 point for duping Kopernikuz.
[Krogenar strolls down the aisle of contestants.]
Javen, you selected #6, "Famous Horse Saddles" - which was your own answer! You sly devil you... you gain zero points for your attempt at deception! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif But we like your style, it's got pizzazz.
Let's see what you selected Ferris (I'd like to compliment you on your church hat, it's simply stunning), [turns to the giant scoreboard and gestures at it] ... #1. [*BiNg*] I'm so sorry... that was QuigonWindu's answer, "Federal Homeland Security" better luck next time dearie.
QuigonWindu, in absentia, receives 1 point - but is deducted that point for not being here.
[Strolls over to Insightful and takes his hand.] Now don't worry, nothing to worry about. You're the last person, did you choose correctly? You chose answer #5. Hrm.... Five. Five is a good number. It's a crisp, well-rounded number, don't you think? It's under-rated, compared to other numbers. I consider the number five to be honorable, upstanding, and a good friend. It deserves more respect, but it's the wrong answer. 'The Fairbanks Horticultural Society' was written by Kopernikuz, that scamp. [waggles finger at Kopernikuz]
Kopernikuz gains 1 point.

The correct answer was #2 - The Football Hall of Shame! No one guessed the correct answer, so I get to spend more time with my leggy assistant.

That brings our scoreboard to:

[b]Kopernikus - 6
Ferris Wiel - 1
Darth Insightful - 1
Javen - 0
Darth Fabulous - removed.
QuiqonWindu - removed.

We'll break now, and give these two slots a chance to be filled. Though it may seem as though the race is out of hand, it's not, trust me. Whomever suggests the next category will get it. They are: Movie Titles, Acronyms, Words, People, Dates. Blizzie, are you in?

The next category is...
[cheesy Casio-keyboard sound effect goes here.]
[A brunette in a tight mesh catsuit turns several letters on a scoreboard over to reveal...]
"MOVIE TITLES!"

[Krogenar gestures to the contestants while holding several small recipe cards.]
Here's how this works: I give you the title of the movie, and you must make up a plot summary. You don't have to supply the screenplay, just a synopsis: think of the blurb that would appear on the back of the movie case. If the contestants are ready...

[The contestants make some minor grunting noises and limp hand gestures.]

.. then here's your movie title!

SCUDDA HOO! SCUDDA HAY!

It represents a real movie, that people may or may not have paid money to see. A reminder again, that while I cannot prevent people from cheating, I can rest assured that if you do cheat, some karmic calamity will befall you.

The Players and their totals thus far:
Kopernikus - described by many as an enigma, inside a mystery, wrapped in a conundrum - he leads the pack at 6 points, up one point from his previous five points.
Ferris Wiel - married to an entertainment lawyer, he is well known for his daring yet prim church hats. He remains at a single point.
[Pulls on a lever and Darth Fabulous falls into a shark-filled pool.] We have an opening!
Darth Insightful - wearing a striking red/white cape and bolero, he's pushed ahead this round to a single point.
Javen - has still not earned a point - only the ire of Aquaman. Perhaps next round will be his round.
QuigonWindu - actually supplied an answer that was selected - but was denied his point for lack of participation. He's promised me his sister's phone number, so he's back in the game.
Blizzie - will be participating at a later date.

Each of you PM me with your plot summary for the movie title above.
Remember: deceive your opponents - get into their heads!

[Retires to his podium, to eat caviar and watch Darth Fabulous get eaten by a shark with a laser attached to its head.]

The movie title is:

... and the plot might be...

#1 A musical best remembered as the first film featuring Marilyn Monroe as a showgirl.
#2 High School seniors have their last night of fun.
#3 In his funniest role yet, former Saturday Night Live cast member Adam Sandler plays a down-on-his-luck bowling alley attendant who one day dreams of owning his very own car audio superstore.
#4 Foreign movie, from India about a woman who doesn't want to marry the man who was chosen for her by her parents. So she runs away and finds true love. blah blah blah. She marries her love they live happily ever after.
#5 In this screwball comedy, a down on his luck gambler falls hard for a bubbly diva showgirl and attracts trouble from a local mobster. Will it be love or money that finally makes him a winner in the end?
#6 A farmboy is more interested in donkeys than girls! Starring Marilyn Monroe.

They're all very similar... I was surprised! Either one of the similar ones is correct or we're all BS'ing in a similar vein. Great BS'ers think alike? I dunno... I chose the one that just seemed silly, though I think I know who made it up and now he'll have my point, damn.

Ok, here's the breakdown.

The movie title is:

SCUDDA HOO! SCUDDA HAY!

... and the plot might be...

The correct answer was #6.

Kopernikuz gets 2 points for choosing correctly.
He also wrote answer #5, which Javen, Darth Insightful and Ferris selected - gaining 3 more points - for a total of 5 more points. I think his total would now be 11 points. Jesus, Kopernikuz!

Quigon selected answer #1, which was written by Ferris - so Ferris gains a point, bringing his total to 2.

I'd like to take a moment to give Darth Insightful some applause. He wrote answer #3, starring Adam Sandler. That was inspired! I can picture Adam Sandler step-kicking and yelling, "Scudda Hoo, Scudda Hay!" in his own particular way. Also, I was shocked at how many of you wrote answers that either a) contained Marilyn Monroe (Ferris's answer) or b) contained showgirls. Creepy. Everyone wrote a pretty good answer. Someone please gain on Kopernikuz. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif

Kopernikus - 11

[50-foot tall granite letters drop from the sky, squashing several scantily-clad women flat. Krogenar weeps.]

The letters, gentlemen, spell out the word:

LIMOPHOITOS

It is a just and righteous word, and quite large.
Send me PM's with your concocted definition of the word as soon as possible, and then we can start the rest of the game. Keep in mind that you should be trying to deceive the other players.

[Pulls at one of the crushed women's legs, but cannot get her out from under the giant stone letter. Krogenar screams at the sky.]

"Debbie! Debbie! D-d-d-d-d-ebbie!!!"
[Jill walks past.]
[Krogenar becomes completely composed.]
"Hey Jill... got some fries to go with that shake?..."
"Aww baby... why you gotsta go?"
[Follows after Jill.]

You are Sh*%&ing ME?????? WHAT THE HECK KIND OF MOVIE IS THAT??? I can't believe that was right OR how close we all came! I actually thought I had just given Javen points by suggesting it. Why I thought it was his, I don't know... but it was a hunch after I picked it. Has anyone on earth actually seen this movie?

The Adam Sandler thing was inspired, yes... but I know most of Sandler's work and that isn't one of them, or I'd have picked it. LOL

Holy crap, I can't believe that's a movie... with Marilyn Monroe no less. Damn.

I'm going to have to find this flick now... it's a mission.

[Krogenar sticks his head out from the giant granite letter 'O'.]
"Hey gang. Stay tuned today because there'll be singin', dancin' and all sorts o' fun. [grins wolfishly] And if you're not careful, you just might learn something... oh yeah, eat my brand of pudding pops."

LIMOPHOITOS

.. is defined as ...

#1 - Insanity caused by lack of food.
#2 - A medical disorder whereby light is interpreted in the reverse by the human eye.
#3 - Greek word meaning "stretched."
#4 - Dizziness caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain.
#5 - The condition of cellular breakdown when organic material comes into contact with liscentious carbon-based pheromones.

By the way, thank you all for the kind words about my movie description. I had decided at that point that kopernikuz was running away with this thing and I chose to go for humor instead of points. I consider it a moral victory. That and the fact that I couldn't come up with an actual Adam Sandler movie that would have worked with that title.

Don't worry, you'll be right soon enough, the tacky ******* will remake it sometime early next year with Rob Schneider about some guy who likes to hump donkeys but falls for a showgirl played by Heather Locklear.
