Christmas Eve...after all, that is the official start of Christmas!

That's a tough one... Well, Coca-Cola has never been able to compete with julmust (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julmust) here in Sweden (I really don't know what to call it in English), so that doesn't carry any weight for me (although I like the Coca-Cola Christmas commercials). Reruns... well, there's always Scrooge... but no. Christmas Eve is when Christmas is celebrated here in Sweden, so that doesn't really mark the start... If I pin it down, it has to be the stores Christmas window displays around Advent 1st (the first Sunday before Christmas) and when the advent stars and the other Christmas decorations
are put in place.

Looking around at stores, Halloween unfortunately. But I guess for me it's either the classics on tv or the mega-sales the day after Thanksgiving.

Good point, I change my mind. Advent is the start of Christmas.

My uncle and aunty are Swedish, they told me once to try julmust but I never got round to it. Anyway...it looks YUMMMY.

:D

In my opinion it's stupid for "the start of Christmas" to be when some big-name soft drink company says so. If Coca-Cola invented Christmas, fine. But then it would be called Cokemas.

I voted other, if you judge by advertising x-mas seasons starts before halloween. I actually saw x-mas stuff out with the halloween at the local wal-mart.

LOL I am a scrooge and dispise the whole world wide retail holiday. I like a thoughtful gift as much as anyone, but resent the mind set that I am obligated to buy for everyone around me, just because everyone else is caught up in the maddness. for about 6 years now when ever I am asked "what do you want for Christmas Randy" my reply has been "take whatever money you were going to spend on my and donate it to the poor, or a childrens hospital"

*shudders* mega sales! great deals, but it feels like feeding time at the zoo.

For me, it used to be when the radio stations started playing Christmas songs. But considering that they now start the songs on freakin Labor Day, that's no longer valid. I guess the start of the Christmas season is when I look at the calander and go "Holy sh*t! I've gotta buy Christmas gifts NOW!"

For the shops Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier every year, here in New Zealand around mid-October. Now the departments stores and shopping malls are full of glitzy lights and tinsel and lots of really tacky decorations.

But for me, I'd have to say around the first week of December. I'm always waaaay to busy to even start thinking about Xmas before then.

No, ours starts on Boxing Day (26th dec for those that don't know what I'm talking about). I do however have to work late after the shop shuts on Christmas eve to get all the point of sale up for the sale start on the 26th. :(

The day before Christmas Eve is when Christmas should start. No sooner, no later. All this "Halloween is over! XMAS RUSH!" hullabaloo is terrible. If anything, I guess it can start after Thanksgiving, but the later the better.

Jedi Master Harrison

Christmas should start on like 20th Dec or something and end on 27th.

Call me Scrooge but I hate all the crappy build up. One year I went to about 7 Christmas parties, just over the top. Town ends up full of people who don't go out the rest of the year so as they have too much to drink and aren't used to it, it just resembles a battlefield of zombies. A couple of days with the family over Christmas is nice, that's all it is to me, I'm not bothered about pressies much. Hell, I don't even decorate my home, just don't see the point. It's different if you've got kids.

Master_Kinnon

For me it's normally loads of things. It's the smell in the air, it's the colour of the trees, it's the mood when people are out shopping (stressed out normally)

In my family, Christmas begins in October. Starting October 1st, you can usually count on hearing Christmas music somewhere in the house. But Christmas really takes off around Thanksgiving.

We actually have a family tradition to decorate the house for Christmas the day before Thanksgiving. Then we wake up the next morning, turn on all the Christmas lights, and watch the Thanksgiving parade with homemade Egg McMuffins.

So I guess you could say Thanksgiving Eve is what really signifies the start of Christmas to me.

Also, the Philadelphia radio channel, B101.1 (www.b101radio.com (http://www.b101radio.com)) has had a yearly tradition (for about four years or so) where they actually begin playing non-stop Christmas music from Thanksgiving week through Christmas day. That is really a cool thing.

I have always believed this to be my favorite season of the year; October through December.
