Well, I feel the urge to release my creative juices once again so here it is. A singular story/fanfic. I will attempt to keep it updated at least weekly. Feedback is appreciated, feel free to comment.

Prologue

Basta Chu looked out the view port of his private cruiser. Numerous distant stars and planets bombarded the tiny porthole. He ran his hand through his slicked back graying hair. He began to notice his reflection in the view port, the lights behind him illuminating his face against the clear window. He breathed a heavy sigh. Most would say he had aged well for a human, reaching 56 standard years so far, in fact, most would still consider him quite handsome. He kept his beard neatly trimmed, his hair always tightly combed back, and he carried with him the obligatory air of superiority that so many business men strived for. His carved chin and narrow features seemed to highlight this as well.

Turning from the view port he walked over his private work quarters once more. The desk, sitting in the very center of the room, was an antique and a rarity in itself. Carved from the wood of some native plant, of which the name Basta had long forgotten, but nonetheless it was definitely worth a second look. He had even taken the extremity of having a deep brown fabric implanted onto the floor to soften his footsteps while he worked within. Against the far wall, opposite the door, rested a shelf with various memorabilia, trophies, awards, however it was completely devoid of any family relics. The small comm. system on his desk began to blink, indicating an incoming message. Reaching over and pressing a small button on a gold panel resting on his desk, he activated the comm. unit and a small vid-screen unfolded opposite the end of his chair.

Within the view screen, the face of a young pilot, whose name Basta also couldn’t remember, appeared. “Mister Basta, sir, we are reaching the Lateu system. It should only be another standard hour before we arrive on Lateu II. Shall I make the arrangements to have a welcome for you at that time.”

Waving apathetically, Basta said with his gruff voice, “Certainly, of course, of course. And make sure Doctor, err, what his name again? Valshoon? Valtzoon?” Shaking his head, he continued. “No, no, it doesn’t matter. You know who I mean, make sure he’s there to meet me. I don’t want to waste anytime once we arrive.”

“Very good sir, I will make the arrangements right away.” The vid-screen communication ended and the screen retracted.

Returning to the view port once again, Basta Chu continued to gaze about the stars.

An hour later, the ship approached the little dust ball of a planet known as Lateu II. A small humble planet, Lateu boasted no huge trading ports, no large mineral deposits, and had all but a meager population of mixed races, as it was home world to none, but refuge to many. The planet sat at the edge of the galaxy, in the small Lateu system and was the only one to be inhabited. The workings of Coruscant, the creation of the new Jedi Academy, even the coming of the Vong were all distant whispers to the inhabitants of Lateu II.

The ship entered the dusty atmosphere, traveled along the surface briefly before reaching one of the largest “cities” on the planet, Nes’Abin. Nes’Abin was actually nothing more than a large collection of mud colored buildings, rusted durasteel warehouses, and various living quarters. The ship settled down in the one of the hangars, in which several beings awaited patiently for the crew of the ship.

The ship landed with a small blast of wind. The exit ramp emerged from the hull with a hiss and the hangar was silent for a moment. Short moments later, Basta Chu found himself walking down the ramp. He cast a quick glimpse around the hangar and was immediately not in impressed. Several defunct smaller vessels lay in the sand filled hangar, many of them in pieces. The walls were a sandy brown color, which did nothing to compliment the hangar.

Looking ahead of him as he walked, Basta spied three figures standing near the entrance, waiting for him. As he approached he got a better look at the three figures. The one on the right was clearly a Bothan. It carried the casual brown fur, pointed ears, and small hazel eyes, which was common amongst their kind. The figure to the far right was a younger human woman. She wore a lab coat, which did nothing to compliment her figure. Her hair was long, but tucked neatly into at the back of her head. Her features were very refined and seemed to make her appear a bit older than she was. Basta was quick to notice her piercing emerald eyes and she seemed to smirk at him. Lastly, Basta noticed the elderly man (even by Basta’s standards) between the other two. He was a relatively short man with receding white hair crowning his wrinkled forehead and his eyes a dull shade of blue. His face was rather round and had an inviting look upon it. He wore a dusty old suit of some kind, looking horrible out of place on such a person. The elderly man, who had been staring at the dirt before him, looked up and spied Basta.

“Ah, Mister Chu! We have been expecting you for sometime. We appreciate you coming here personally. I know that you are a busy man.” The old man said.

“Of course, well I had to see how my investment was going to turn out. If it’s anything like you said it would be, then it’s definitely worth seeing. I hope that your efforts are fruitful, Doctor…?”

“Veltoon. Doctor Lors Veltoon. And these are my colleagues.” He waved a hand to each of the beings next to him. “My head of psycho analysis, Miss Shali Des. And my lead engineer, Loto Ner’Lya.” Replied Doctor Veltoon.

“A pleasure to meet you all at last. Well then, we shouldn’t waste time on pleasantries. My sources tell me it’s already active. I’d like to see it if you would.”

“Of course! We are anxious as well. It’s taken years of research to come this far, but we truly have hopes for it! This way, this way.” He motioned to the doorway behind him and they filtered out of the hangar.
