Doesn't anybody think that they overdid it with the limbs being cut off? I mean approx. 16 limbs have been cut off in the Star Wars movies. I think thats a little much.

On the topic of dismembering limbs, I'm disappointed that most of it all happens above the waist. I would have liked to see someone loose a foot or a leg. And no I'm not counting the Vader / Obi-Wan duel because it was pathetic how he just left him there. I'm talking chop one leg or foot off and have the guy limp around a bit or something.
2 heads
1 torso
2 legs
2 hands
5 arms? (not sure)
were ther more? I think I may be missing a limb here or there lol

Nope. Jedi Knights carry around weapons that can cut through almost anything. It makes perfect sense that limbs will fly. In fact, it's the scenes where they don't fly that are a bit less realistic; if lightsabers were real, amputations would be happening all the time.

I do think it's maybe a tad bit excessive, but I don't worry about. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment.

This is just a guess, but maybe it's restricted to arms and quick decapitations so it wouldn't be that gruesome. We see the agony in Anakin when he gets his legs chopped off, but we needed emotion in that scene. And ROTS did get a stronger rating. When a hand or arm is cut off, especially of a bad guy or an alien, generally you can keep things suitable for children. They can still walk and talk and so we don't worry about them too much.
Chop a leg or foot off, and you wouldn't exactly 'limp around a bit'. You can't walk, you are almost doomed in combat, it would not be pretty.

But still, i find it a little much, it's like all the characters are missing a limb or something. I think they overdo it.

Yep, I agree that it was overdone. Considering that part of the target audience for these films is small children, it would have been better if Lucas had toned it down, at least a little bit. And after the first few it really loses it impact & effectiveness anyway.

If I had seen the movies starting with TPM first and watching the saga chronologicly, I'd be of the opinion that after you chop a guy in half with your "laser" sword anything after that is pretty much small potatoes. Just an observation.

If limbs wasn't cut off, the opponent wouldn't give up. Like Luke or Count Dooku, If their linbs wasn't cut off, would they stop fighting even when the fight is slanting against them.

Thats not my point, my point is that it happenes too often, can't someone be stabbed for once, not get limbs chopped off? After i watched them all and went to see ROTS when Anakin got his leggs chopped off i was like "wow, very exciting....." it wasnt as effective....

Honestly, I think Lucas just decided to have fun with it after the first few chops.

With a weapon like a lightsabre it stands to reason that there'd be more amputations. One of the nice things about the Jedi fighting droids for most of the Prequel films was that Lucas could let the Jedi cut loose, pun intended, and not have things get too gory because they're only robots. I mean, realisitcall when Luke was fighting on Jabba's sail barge and he's waving his lightsabre around there should've been limbs flying left and right. But that would've beem gory and not good fun I guess.
Also, given the state of artificial limbs in the GFFA an amputation doesn't seem to be as nearly a dibilitating injury as it would be in our real world. I mean if I lost an arm or a even a finger I'd totally freak out, but in the GFFA it seems that you can get a pretty decent replacement right away. Especially during the OT era.

^ Perhaps, but I think it's more a question of how it works in terms of a storytelling device.
I think you're right on about Lucas trying to keep things from getting too gory. It wouldn't be right for the films to be R-rated due to gore/violence. OTOH tho I think that things like amputations are inherently gory and overdoing things in a sanitized way isn't necessarily good either. That's not a call for more gore/violence, rather I'd prefer it if things weren't overdone so much -- that just makes for a better film, IMHO.

I say "Not enough limbs cut off!"
I think every saber battle should have had at least one of the combatant's limbs severed.

I've heard people say you can see it, but I believe they're wrong. But I guess it's possible that it could happen.

Why is it called order 66? What are 65 order before it? Are they law of the Republic or order of military Republic?

Order 63- Bring the Emperor Lunch.
Order 64- Royal Imperial Bath.
Order 65- Naked Stormtrooper Dance Party!
Order 66- Kill all Jedi
Order 67- Large cheese and pepperoni, with bacon, ham, and green peppers...
Order 68- Beer run
Order 69- Ya know, I don't think I can quite say this one on this particular forum....but I think you know what 69 is. Yeah, you know.

perhaps the 66 is supposed to remind us of the significance 666...?
(p.s., i'm mad that i actually read jackbauer's order 63 and thought it was legit for 3 secs... hahaha)
anyway back to the whole limbs ordeal. i think that if all those hands weren't flying off, then the lightsaber wouldn't be as badass. it's supposed to cut through everything, including arms, legs, heads, etc. although i agree that it seemed so much more meaningful in episode 5 when darth vader just chopped off luke's hand before his revelation. but no matter.
