What if...
Darth Vader, despite the painful memories of Tatooine, had gone to the surface to search for the droids in ANH, and had traced them to the Lars homestead, and killed them himself when he found that he had had a son which they had hid from him all those years?
What if...
Later on the Death Star when Vader dueled Obi-Wan, when Luke and the others ran toward the ship and stopped upon seeing Obi-Wan facing off with Vader, Vader saw Luke and deduced that he was the son he had come to know about, and was distracted by his notice of Luke for just long enough for Obi-Wan to slice him in half down the middle?

What if...
Leia was more interested in Luke pre-ROTJ, and it was they who hooked up and got married?

Not for sure.. there's no real proof.. all there is are camera angles and assumptions.. it could happen. Maybe that's why dooku told obi-wan.. so the jedi would maybe on the chance take care of chancelor palp for them.. and the jedi would then think the sith lord was gone.. but in fact he isn't.... see there's more too it than just that. (my opinion)

I believe Mr. Lucas stated in an interview (or the audio commentary) that they were the same person. He said something like, Palpatine is the phantom menace. Am, I completely misinformed here, or is this so?

What if George Lucas has become psychologically imbalanced by his exposure to wealth that is "more than you can possibly imagine" and actually believes himself to have turned to the dark side of the force. What if his Sith like mission is to feed off the anger, hate and suffering created by dividing solidarity between fans from making two really bad SW movies that only those with rose-tinted spectacles can defend blindly.

What If C3PO and R2-D2 have their memory banks entirely erased of all their experiences in Ep 1, 2 and 3 and forget the name Anakin Skywalker (who's now confirmed as "the Maker", as referred to in ROTJ)...and forget the name Kenobi.

Then wouldn't it all have been a complete waste of time having them in the prequels anyway and a cheap shot at drawing on fan sympathy...as their the only key cast members who haven't aged.

Oh sorry that may not have been a "what if". That could an as is!"

What me Wookiee- Don't take this the wrong way, but if you despise TPM and AOTC so much, why are you wasting so much of your time on these boards ripping them? Of course, you every right to post what you want, where you want, etc. But if I took such a strong disliking to anything in life, I would most likely voice my displeasure and move on.
Like I said, I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I have actually read several of your posts on a different thread (more intended for highly critical responses, I might add), and thought you to be well spoken with well thought ideas and criticisms. I'm just wondering what your motivation could be to keep ripping these movies instead of moving on with life.

Well, this can't be true. Reason?

If Sifo-Dias = Sidious .. and Sidious = Palpatine .. then Palpatine = Sifo-Dias, and this CAN'T be possible, and Jedi always see Palpatine and protect him. I'm sure they would not forget such a face in only 10 years. Unless Palpatine doesn't = Sidious, that is the only way it could be true. But seeing as Palpatine = Sidious . . Sorry.

Impossible. Qui-Gon was a Jedi Knight around the same time that Sifo-Dias was on the Jedi Council.

What I'm beginning to believe is that Sifo-Dias' story will never be told. It just makes it more interesting. Lucas doesn't have to complete the whole story, it will just keep us guessing for the rest of time. Much like the X-Files series.

If that was true, which it isn't, do you know how many sources that Lucas would pretty much mess up? ALL sources on the net, and off, say that Sidious = Palpatine and that this will all uncover in Episode 3. It just is impossible, unless Lucas is prepared to mess something up. no.. sid knows his brother is in control of the senate, but chancelor palpy doesn't know he has a brother... so sid has dooku tell obi about the whole sith=chancelor thing to cause the jedi to get nervous, and MAYBE go after chancelor palpy on their own, so that's making the jedi do sid's dirtywork for him, then the jedi THINk they've rid the universe of the sith, leaving sid to the advantage to catch them off guard.

it COULD happen and I hope it does.. it'd be good to finally get an actual surprise. I'm so sick of the new films being so predictable. Seriously I knew every turn of EP2 without spoilers!

Minority Report was a great movie, why? not because of tom, or the special effects, but because of the plot and the twists.. tom and the effects were just bonus.

A twist wouldn't cause a ripple in the fans, well it would because everyone is so sure that palp=sid.. so I'm hoping GL makes a twist for once. (er.... twice... ya know.. the whole vader being luke's dad caught the fans of that day WAYYYY off guard... but GL got no pain then)

oh yeah to add to that...

if the jedi went after chancelor palp thinking he was the sith, that would mean the senate would be without leadership temporarily.. leaving sid at another advantage point.. and it still goes deeper than that.

It also means that sid could be the old jedi sifo deas, because his brother doesn't look the same as him, the jedi wouldn't recognize him (chancelor palp) as sifo, which would be sid.. SO.. brother palp is a possibility.

Jedi Sifo Deas turns to dark side (sifo deas "dies" like luke's father did suppsoedly because he turned to the dark side)
Jedi Sifo Deas (spelling is wrong on a lot of things in this message i know) becomes Darth Sideous

Sid has a brother, that brother being chancelor palp - hence the jedi not recognizing him as old jedi sifo-deas

KMdigital - I give you props on your thinking. Your a wise man. I too was thinking the exact idea of the 'clone' issue due to Wayland in EU, they discovered the Cloning Facility of Palpatine's. I figured that was just EU but what if Lucas used this to his advantage? Now lets look at it this way. When Jango gave up his body to be in the clone project, ALL the clones looked exactly like Jango. Now if Palpatine cloned himself to be on the senate and to be Sidious, they would look them same. Now that is very possible, however, if that is true it would eliminate your theory on Sifo Dias, hence that clones look the same. Catch my drift? If Lucas makes this call about the clones, that wouldn't call too much angry in the fans, as many of them already question the idea of the clones. However, making Sidious and Palpatine two separate people, that is more than just a ripple. I'll admit that when he made the call of Vadar being Luke's father and announcing it, it struck some of us as surprised, and others know it would happen. Making the call of Sidious and Palpatine two separate people is insane, because of how many sources say they are the exact same person, but annoucning they are clones, I'll admit that is more of a twist than a flaw. I'll tell ya a secret if you can keep it .. I kind of want that to happen. But on to my point.
If the Jedi got the assumption that Palpatine was a Sith, they would take him off leadership BUT the Senate would immediately choose another leader. Now what is SUPPOSE to happen, I repeat, SUPPOSE to happen is that Palpatine makes himself President and disbands the Senate and starts the Empire. That is what is suppose to happen.
Now this is what I think is going to happen. I think in Ep3 that after the Clone Wars Palpatine will reveal himself, or Jedi will realize it when it is too late, and Palpatine will uncover his true identity as he makes himself President. I'm sure we will see him fight and, of course, win. The start of the Empire kills thousands of Jedi, forcing the others - Obi Wan & Yoda - to leave. Amidala takes Leia to Bail Ogana & either she stays there until she dies or she is killed, which I think Vadar will make orders to kill her. If not, I think she will be killed accidently by purpose of the Jedi(aka Obi Wan) which will force them to battle and making the last strike to turn him to the dark side. Luke is taken by someone to Owen Lars, who was revealed by George Lucas to the press that he is indeed a Sith Lord. I think Mace Windu is killed by Dooku, and Dooku is killed either by Palpatine or Anakin, preferrably Anakin who takes his place, much like the scene from RotJ with Vadar and Luke. It is rumored that Anakin becomes Vadar when he is pushed into some kind of acidic pool that forces him to use that breathing resperator and suit the rest of his life to live. The clone warriors follow Anakin's command turning them into the storm troopers. The last scene in the movie is Palpatine turning himself into Emporer and Vadar by his side. The Empire has started and Ep4 starts 20 years later.
Just my theory. If Palpatine turns out to be a clone, it won't surprise me but then again it will. If he does, I think he will be killed in Ep3 and then Jedi will see Sidious and realize Palpatine was a clone and blah blah blah. You get the idea. Well, thats my point. *pops fingers*

What if in Ep. III there's a big truce (of sorts*) between the Republic and the Separatists, and Dooku suddenly becomes part of the Republic leadership; 2nd in command under Palpatine?

Sure, it's not like Palpy will want him around anymore, once his usefulness has run out; and I don't know why the Emperor would keep a 'vanquished enemy' around, his popularity would probably sink to an all time low (then again, does the Emperor really want to be 'popular'? ROFL ) *but it could happen.

*After the Unconditional Surrender of the Separatists, and the complete dismantling (or assimilation into the Republic arsenal) of their military forces, of course.

That's hard to know, but...

What if ANH was really Episode I; Darth Vader died, like you said; Luke and Leia weren't brother and sister; Luke did fall to the Dark Side in RotJ (but Boba Fett didn't die), and his son had to save him from the Emperor (who by this time is just a bucket of putrifying flesh*G*), in Episode 6?

Darth Maul as Sifo Dias, I personally like the idea. It would fit the timeline from the best of my knowledge and would show the planning and orders of palpy so far in advance.

I like that thinking there Javen because I posted in the, 'What happens to Padme', or something like that, thread my theory on Padme turning out to be Mon Mothma. I even included examples for all you naysayers out there.

I also, as I've now become blue in the face stating this all over the site, agree with KM on the Sifo-Dyas is Sidious and Palpatine is just a politician from Naboo theory. As I've said before I think we are in store for a plot-twist in Episode III and what better one than that. The prequels are supposed to mirror the OT, but there still hasn't been that "Oh, WOW" plot twist in the prequels like the "No, I am your father" kick in the pants from the OT. I don't think the fans, or anyone else, would be offended, or insulted, by Lucas making Sidious out to be someone other than Palpatine. The only people who would be mad are the ones absolutely convinced that Palpatine is Sidious that it wouldn't even be anger on their part, but embarassment.

I guess I should put some what ifs.........

What if Oliver Stone directs Episode III?

What if they had never needed to land on Tattooine in TPM and therefore never would have encountered Anakin?

What if Han hadn't come back to assist Luke in his Death Star raid in ANH?

What if R2 hadn't left the Homestead in ANH and Luke never would have left to find him, hence he and the droids would have been there when the Stormtroopers arrived?

What if Jar Jar goes tanning and becomes Admiral Ackbar?

What if Mark Hamill had had an acting career after the Star Wars Trilogy?

What if Count Dooku fought with fangs and a golden gun? (You all should get the references)

What if American Graffiti had been a flop and Lucas couldn't have gotten the green light to make ANH?

What if Admiral Ozzel hadn't pulled the Imperial Fleet out of light speed so close to Hoth? Therefore their attack would have been more secretive and Piett never, at least not then, would have been promoted to Admiral upon Vader's desposing of Ozzel?

What if R2 hadn't reminded 3PO to use the comlink to track down Luke and the others just before the garbage chute was fully compacted?

Ok.... Sidios = Sifo Deas.... But this means that that Sideos can't be Palpy because the Jedi would recognise him, and besides he can't be in two places at once. For the same reason he can't be a clone.
I really doubt that Maul is Sifo Deas, since everything about his character suggested he was a killing machine, sheltered from the outside world and living for one purpose only. For this reason I doubt he could carry out the kind of subterfuge needed to fake being a jedi and besides Obi-wan and Windu spoke as if they knew how Deas died which suggests a faked death, Maul couldn't fake his death after he had been sliced and diced.
What if.... what if someone close to Palpy was Sideous? What if that is how they are influencing the senate..
Or of course Sidios isn't Sifo Deas at all and is in fact Palpatine and he just called himself Sifo Deas as a cover while he was hiring Jango.
What if Lucas didn't keep throwing out all these extranious plot lines to try and confuse us? What would we do with our time?

Obviously there would be Action Figures, and Playsets, and Sleeping Bags, and Lunch Boxes, and Pez Dispensers (and virtually anything else that they can slap the "THX-1138" name on, and make trillions of dollars in the process), and Two Sequels, and then, years later, the "Star Wars" Sound System, and the "THX-1138 Special Editions" (with a much improved special effects and a CGI enhanced ending), and later (much later) than that, Prequels; all of which, a lot of people would hate because they destroy the 'original vision', or something like that....

What if Han hadn't taken the amount that Luke and Ben gave him for passage to Alderaan? How would they have come up with more money? They couldn't steal it or dupe somebody out of it because Ben wouldn't allow it. Would Ben trick Han into thinking it was enough? What if it turned out that neither Luke or Leia had Force powers? Would Ben and Yoda teamed up to try and defeat Palpatine and Vader right after they came to power or wait it out?

OR, what if, rather than surviving Episode III and running off to Dagobah, as everybody thinks, Yoda actually dies (at the hand of some Sith, maybe even Siddy), but because he is so strong in the Force, he is able to return in his physical form to train Luke; (and since Obi-Wan is not quite as powerful - so no more flesh time for you, bucko! It's all glowing, blue ghostly forms for you, pal!) but when Luke went away to face Vader, the purpose of Yoda's return was an apparent failure, and he began to slip away as of that point?

I think that would sort of tie in with some of the 'annotated screenplay' stuff (Lucas is always finding new takes on old rejected ideas), such as Ben and Yoda coming back to physically fight Vader and the Emperor, without being nearly as goofy.

What if Jocasta Nu was doin' Dooku?

I mean, common! She was all over that bust of his in the library.... and let's face it, they do even have that "we grew old together so we look a lot a like" thing going.... and she made a mention about his looks (something about having a nobel face or dignified chin or something like that if i remember right?)... she was gettin' all excited and everything.... I swear, she and Dookie were the original "forbidden" couple!

That's why she also insisted about there being no Kamino! She was helpin' to cover his tracks!
