Five seasons, huh? Angel got five seasons on the WB; I don't know if a niche show like this--and yeah, unfortunately, it's a niche show--can last that long on one of the major networks.
Of course, if it can take the success of cable hits like The 4400 and Battlestar Galactica and translate those fanbases to this one, they'd get a good following. I've got a lot of hopes for this series.
And yes, Jeph Loeb's involvement is quite good as well.

While I agree for the most part, JTS... I think the networks are starting to look at niche shows because they're struggling to compete with cable so much now. And the success of LOST shows people are willing to watch them... kind of out of the ordinary.
Of course... Surface and Invasion both bombed... here's hoping Heroes can grab an audience like LOST did. Clearly NBC has seen the success of comic book films and thinks maybe it'll translate if you can do something fresh with it. We'll see what happens. I'm actually kind of intrigued and can't wait to check it out! :)

Yeah, five seasons, they just need to be picked up. They all ready have a HUGE fanbase for a show that hasn't even aired. And it's got mad reviews so far. This show may be the hit opener of the fall. I think it will be.
It has a great timeslot and is the perfect setup to invoke some new life and fans. Lost people are also doing the show. As is some from Alias. It has a great team leading it.

Has anyone watched the pilot yet?
Personally I think it had a lot of potential, but way to much exposition and not enough action. I'll continue to watch because it's right up my alley, but I think the first episode is going to throw off a lot of casual viewers. The only thing that might help is the cliffhanger ending.
Also, some of the special effects are horribly done, wait til you see, then you will see what I mean.

09-10-2006, 02:06 AM
If you've read the interviews you'll know it isn't about action. This show is a basic Origins of sorts. These people are JUST NOW learning about their powers as the show opens. It's a growing up type story. And what will they choose in the end?
Personally it all looks really good to me. Can't really complain about special effects on television. To me Smallville sucks. It's television, and it's the opener, takes time.
But I love it, and I'm hooked. This is the perfect type of Superhero story. No rehashing or re-imaging characters. It's all new and it's Character Driven. I like that.

Alright here are some of my observations. the Smith and Anderson "name dropping" refrence to the Matrix might also indicate that all of this is a big mind job. Every Hero had a "sidekick" or Hero-support. And New York is the place to be if you're gonna be a hero.
I really liked it but I'm waiting for more.

Ali Larter's character is one of the most intriguing to me. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly her power is. It's not quite "being in two places at once" like Inner-Demon's opening post suggests. And it's definitely dangerous.
The cliffhanger at the end of the pilot was also quite interesting, considering how much they'd hyped Milo Ventimiglia's character and his ability, and then they do a classic switch-a-roo on us.
And yeah, the presence of "sidekicks" for everyone is very, very interesting.
Hiro is definitely the most fun character so far, and I really liked Claire as well. And Mohinder could be very cool as the "Professor X" of the show.

Yeah I'd like to get a better insight to what her power is. the blackouts and leaving clues for her "normal" self to find, is great. I hope they continue with it and reveal more about what she can do and what it is she has done.

That was one of the creepiest episodes of a television show I've ever seen. I mean, seriously, when Hiro walks in on Isaac who's been murdered, that was crazy, and then we get to the scene with Matt Parkmen in L.A. and there's another guy who's similarly murdered... just freaky.
And again, Ali Larter's character gets even more disturbing.
I was happy that Milo Ventimiglia's character could also fly, that was a nice way to clear it up. Should be interesting to see how each of these brothers deals with this; you can kinda already see how it's gonna work out, but not quite...
Claire's in trouble, that's for sure. And Hiro's gotta help Isaac warn folks.
All in all, I liked this episode more than the first, even if it did disturb me to no end.

Well a lot of comic book fanboys at other sites I frequent point out her similarities to Rose and Thorn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_and_Thorn). I also think there's a Jekyll & Hyde relation, as well, and she doesn't realize what's going on.
It's definitely a mystery to be discovered, and it's one of the more intriguing ones (as opposed to evisceration-happy, brain-stealing psychos).

Last night was a freakin awesome show. I can't wait to see how they explain Claire waking up on the autopsy table. Strange considering her "father" knows she is invincible. He wouldn't allow an autopsy, unless... he is the one doing it.
Hiro is just the best hero ever. And this time he has his sidekick with him.
Did it occur to anyone else that maybe the Jekyll & Hyde chick was the one that killed the guys she is accusing her husband of killing? Watch her suddenly find two million dollars somewhere.
And... Holy crap on the first look at our villian. Do you think he has all the traits the other heroes have and that's why it will take all of them together to stop him? Though he does have telekenisis and the other heroes don't.

Ha! I might be right about Nathan. Here's what TV Guide has to say:
Question: Please tell me that Adrian Pasdar's character on Heroes (http://www.tvguide.com/detail/tv-show.aspx?tvobjectid=281246) doesn't turn out to be a bad guy. I know he's a politician and everything, but can't they make an exception just this once?— Laura
Ausiello: It certainly seems like they're heading in that direction. I spoke to Pasdar's TV wife, Rena Sofer, who revealed that Nathan may've taken flight before. "He used his powers once, whether he knew it or not," she teases. "And he didn't use it to help me." Sofer, who first appears later this month, adds that there's a spoiler-ish reason viewers haven't met Nathan's bride yet. (Hint: The Missus may have some, um, mobility issues.) "As evil as Nathan is and can be, he's very loving to me. He loves me, and I think in his own way, everything he does is to protect me."

See if you can watch the preview for upcoming episodes that played after last night's show. Peter's powers aren't quite what you think they are...
And Niki's superpower is very much like the classic DC character Rose and Thorn. Rose, a frail young woman who wouldn't hurt anyone, becomes Thorn, a superpowered villain who kills those who get in her way. Look up the character on Wiki, she's very similar to Niki, it seems.
As for Simone and Micah, I doubt it. That would be a bit of overkill. And we've never seen any evidence indicating either of them having powers.

Last night's episode was, by far, the most kickass episode of the series yet!
From that very opening scene with Peter and future Hiro, followed by Nathan being taken away by Claire's father and then shooting into the sky, I knew this episode was going to rule. The cop, Greg Grunberg's character (Mark?), finally had some significant screentime, and I enjoyed his scenes a lot. We have more "meeting of the mains" as, after Niki and Nathan have met, Nathan meets Hiro and Hiro's buddy meets Niki.
But some of the best scenes were the understated ones; when Claire's father's associate screws with the quarterback's head, and when Niki's husband creepily shows up out of nowhere. I've got some theories on him, and his relation to Niki--or rather, her other ego.
And finally, Peter's powers finally manifesting the way I figured they would, and the phone call from Hiro, that was an excellent way to end the episode.
Also, I didn't miss Mohinder's presence in this episode. His "Professor X" qualities seem to have lost some of their resonance, and Peter, Isaac, and Hiro seem to be doing fine on their own.
My favorite episode of the show thus far, and it's had a very strong first five.

This is my new favorite show now by far after these last two episodes. They made me squeak in geek glee.
Damn, I want more.
Ohh, and Nikki's husband has Kitty Pryde like powers judging from this weeks interactive comic. So phasing, pretty cool stuff. I also think that the Bad Nikki was the one who commited the crime, and she framed her husband. I thought that before the comic came out, but it basically confirmed it.

Speaking of Yoda, it looks like we're in Tatooine right now. Supposedly, this is the road to Las Vegas, but it's just sand everywhere. It feels like we're about to be attacked by Jawas. Ooh. We're just like the droids. Dibs on R2D2! I'm on a mission with my cyborg translator, アンドウロイド to deliver a message to Mister Isaku. "Isaku-san, you're my only hope." o(^^o)(o^^)o No, wait. I made a point of planting myself in front of the boob-tube and catching up on the episodes. The first few, though interesting, jumped around too much for me - I got lost and lost interest. So I planned my TV time - had my "toddy" all set, slippers and robe and watched. Paid attention. And even had a chuckle or two.
It's pretty good. Now feeling more secure - I agree the "next door neighbor" has got to be on "their" side. Hiro steals the show at least once in every episode. The "cheerleader" has nerve and Claire (the blonde with the kid (?)) must have Jedi moves!

The cheerleader is Claire, Niki is the stripper/mom with the crazy alter-ego.

I like this show and it has gotten better, but the writing of the show is not nearly as good as Battlestar Galactica, Lost, The Sopranos, Rome...
What they excel at is their cliffhanger endings. Those are superb. I hope that they bring in a better set of writers for the characters and stories though.
BobPalpatine
10-25-2006, 03:01 PM
Well they brought in Bryan Fuller who has worked on the past two episodes, which is one of the reasons why I think they were so good. So they are moving in the right direction. I've heard that they are getting some writers who have worked on Buffy and Angel, but I don't know which ones.
James T. Skywalker
10-25-2006, 03:34 PM
Oh, Buffy and Angel writers would be PERFECT for this show! Ben Edlund, Steven DeKnight, David Greenwalt, Jeffrey Bell, Marti Noxon, any of them or others who worked on either of the Buffyverse shows would be great for Heroes, especially character development. I think Greenwalt, DeKnight and Fury are involved with other projects currently (Fury's still on the staff at LOST, I believe), but any of the others would be sweet.

DeKnight is working on Smallville still, same basic genre.

Indeed I find her somewhat annoying... besides I think she might be working for the bad guys.
That was exactly my first thought when she showed up. I said to myself, "What's the easiest way to keep tabs on someone that threatens your project? Have a cute, young woman create a bond with him."
Predictable, but I'm sure some people will be surprised when it turns out, towards the end of the season or so, that she's playing for the other side. ;)

Finally saw the Niki's the villain. Good stuff. And Mohinder's neighbor, totally predictable, but glad they revealed it sooner rather than later.
Looks like D.L. and Hiro are gonna meet up; does that mean we're gonna get D.L. to join with Peter's growing company of supers? I hope so.
And hopefully we'll get some more Nathan flying action next week, seems as though he'll play a bigger role, which is good, because as ambiguous as his character's been written, he's an interesting character.

Save the cheerleader, save the world.
Does anyone else find it ironic that they need to "save" the character that is almost immortal?
Master Cephus
11-01-2006, 06:03 PM
I think that's the point. She is destined to do something that will save the world. Which as people have pointed out, she is going to do something that no other mortal can do (I think of it like the movie I, Robot thing).
I think my big question is are all the main characters the heroes? Or are we seeing the origins of the good and bad guys? I can see how I would perceive some of the characters as good and bad, but for instance is Niki going to be bad? What about Nathan? I would think those two characters especially could be bad.
Or is it going to be Niki's good side defeating her bad side and Niki's ability is super human strength. Does she has a double personality? What about her husband?
I can see Peter, the addict, Hiro, the cop, and the cheerleader all being good, but the other two I just don't know.

The bad neighbor showed up at his door last week. Neither her nor Mr. Bennett (Horned-Rim Glasses) showed up this week. It's assumed that it happened off camera.
Good episode last week. Moved along stories that I was interested in (Matt the cop, Peter and Nathan, D.L. and Hiro), and got some progression in other stuff too. Claire's brother was funny ("I'll make a million bucks putting this on YouTube", "YouTube's free, dummy") and Niki/Jessica is just weirder and weirder.

I've always thought that it was way too easy to assume that he's a bad guy.
He sure had an interesting reaction to the info he got from 'neighbor girl' the previous week; he didn't seem to care that 'the cheerleader' (his daughter) needed to be saved and was more interested that time travel was a cool power.
Did any one else think when 'Radio Active Man' told them not to upset him because he didn't know what might happen, that possibly he could be the cause of the future blast and that Claire could save the world because she wouldn't be in danger from his burning touch?

Love this show too! Haven't watched a single episode on live TV. I've been downloading and watching them on my iPod. A few thoughts ...
On the weird symbol: it looks like it's emphasizing certain parts of the genetic strand. Anyone else see that?
Claire's father, as disturbing as he might seem, doesn't strike me as a bad guy (so to speak an "evil" character). He might be preparing for their survival. Who knows. And his silent sidekick might be his best body guard against the real baddies. But I could be way off here.
Hiro coming from the future to get the ball rolling struck me as very Terminator. Save John Connor! I mean the cheerleader, and save the world! I love that. Why did he choose to appear to Peter for this task? Because only Claire can save herself. Therefore, Peter has to be the one.

I have wondered about that, why Hiro chose Peter and not just go to the cheerleader and say "Hey you're going to save the world"
I think Mr. Bennett could be a potential good guy. Or maybe his job is a government job to study everyone with super powers so the goverment would be ready in case something happened. Maybe his job is to "wipe out" all the people with super powers. He doesn't want to kill Claire, so he is in a way protecting her...

I actually like this vein of thought that Claire's "Dad" could be the guy trying to help the Heroes save the world and he knows what has to be done regardless of what people may think of his methods. Thus far he's had his hands on two Heroes that I've seen, and both of them have walked away from it, not dead. 'Course Nathan escaped, before anything could be "done" to him, so... Also anotherthing hit me, do you think that the people who have been captured by Bennett are also the people who are getting the mark on them, that maybe he put like a tracking sensor thingy in 'em that manifests itself as said tattoo? Hiro doesn't have one does he? what about Nikki's kid and DL? As far as Claire saving the world and Hiro's Ninja-self telling Peter about it, that might have something to do with the scar that Ninja-Hiro mentioned when first meeting P.P. "You look different without the scar" If Peter can help the Cheerleader save the world he might not get the scar, by mimicing Clair's powers while being in proximity he will heal.

I think that he chose to "visit" Peter, because of his mimicking abilities, which is why PP didn't freeze in time with everyone else (IMO). I also think that Claire won't be able to do it alone.

Another great show! Kept me on the edged of my seat! Is Hiro in trouble? He didn't come back after "5".... I missed who the kid with the soccer ball was? Probably blinked  ..the show goes so fast!
Good show!
Blizzard

I didn't grasp who the kid was, either. Just that he was another hero, who could enter Mohinders dreams. And Mohinder's father knew the kid was a hero.
You'd think with Hiro changing the space time continuim by changing the past he'd come back to a different future. Things that make you go hmmmm.

^Yeah. At first I thought that the boy was young Mohinder.
My questions from this episode:
How was Peter able to use the dream power last week when he hasn't had contact with the boy? Or did I miss something? (alright that was about last week, kinda).
As Hiro changes history by going to the past will Ando (and everyone else) suddenly forget the parts that changed? (I love time travel philosophy.)
EDIT: Blizz basically asked the same question above.

This was a very, very good episode. It answered a few of our questions, especially regarding Sylar and Mr. Bennett, but opened up a few more--especially in regards to the manifestation of powers (is it times of emotional or psychological distress, much like mutants in the Marvel Universe, or something else) and the limitations of certain characters, like Hiro.
Please don't kill off D.L. like I think they're gonna do... every show needs their Buffyverse castaways!

My question is why couldn't Hiro have went back again when he ended up in Japan again. Why were his powers suddenly removed. I understand in the storyline he had to learn that he wasn't going to be able to save her, but in his reality, what limited him?
I thought this was a good episode. Nathan first (I guess we are to assume) saw his powers when he was under distress. We see how Sylar came to be. Are we to assume that he is some type of leech where he can consume other powers (I think that was the assumption before the episode, I am just trying to understand)?
I have a question about Niki. Is her power super strength and her power is just manifested by her split personality? I hope this is the case and not that her sister actually is inside her. I think it would be a good storyline if she had to understand her powers and learn to keep Jessica dormant.
It seems the most powerful "hero" is the guy Mr. Bennett keeps around. He has the ability to make any power dormant.
Darth Darthy
11-29-2006, 02:26 AM
He couldn't stop Peter's brother from flying away a few episodes ago even though he tried to supress it.
I am curious as to why Hiro suddenly teleported when he was about to kiss her. Would that kiss have changed everything in the timeline that had already happend and therefore couldn't happen?
"Gleat Scot!"
Master Cephus
11-29-2006, 12:17 PM
I am thinking that powers, if not trained, seem to happen under emotional times. He kissing the girl would have caused some type of big emotion (we are assuming) that caused him to use his powers. Similar to when Nathan was driving and just floated up.

Yay, they have another catch phrase! I was wondering what they were going to do after they "Saved the cheerleader, saved the world." How cool is that Haitian guy? I think he's the one thats gonna save them all somehow... maybe neutralize the bomb guy. I'm very glad Isacc figured out how to "clean up" his gift. Still bummed about Hiro losing his girlfriend though. The Nikki/Jessica thing is getting old and boring. But being sent to prision will only empower the Jesica persona more, so that might not be a "good" thing. I'm glad Hiro is the guy who gets to meet all of the other heroes.
