Talk amongst yourselves.
I don't think it matters that much, the special editions aren't that much different.
It's all about whether you prefer the originals to the special editions, and I prefer the special editions.

Whew...for a second I thought you meant the OT wasn't coming to DVD at all...
Listen, as much as I love the Original ones I love the Special Editions as well. And I will love any of the future SE's too cause lets face it, we havn't seen the end of the Special Editions.
2027 is the 50th anniversary. Just remember that.

That's a good article, I liked it.
That said, I think Lucas is a jerk and acts like a baby.
His way is the right way, and he doesn't want people to see the original versions of the Star Wars Trilogy, because they might prefer it to the Special Edition.
There's nothing stopping him from including the original versions in the DVDs along with the Special Editions except for his revisionistic pride.
Of course, I'm not going to shout about it, and yes I'm going to buy the DVDs. I liked the Special Editions for the most part (even though some of the changes sucked).
I recently bought the original version of the classic trilogy in widescreen edition on VHS, and am planning to put it on my computer and transfer it to DVDs. Not as cool as having an official DVD version, but at least I'll have it.

I agree - dvd format in a few years will be 10 times the capacity as it is today. Blue light lasers will allow up to 20G to be put on a single disk, half the size they are now. Conceivably, you could put all six films, all the doco's, the ewok films, the Myth Behind the Magic AND the OT with still some extra space left over for hidden easter eggs
if he doesn't then I'm going to re-edit the damn thing to make sure Han shoot first!

Not sure if I totally agree with either opinion. On the one hand, I REALLY want the original version on DVD. It's a classic and an AMerican icon, it should be made available without having to buy a crappy bootleg copy. On the other hand, if it's not released then so be it. I won't stomp my feet and demand a refund on my childhood memories, I'll get over it and buy a crappy bootleg copy. But Lucas has to realize at some point that these movies aren't being watched by kids for the most part anymore, it's the adult and old time SW fans that are going to see it 12 times and going to buy all the action figures. My son and his friends don't play SW, they like Harry Potter or Yu Gi Oh or Transformers. So wouldn't it make sense to please the die hard fans first? Come on Lucas, throw us a bone. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I still have a VHS tape of the Original... I don't mind much about the Special Editions, except Greedo shooting first in the cantina.... that sucked..... That should have never been changed.. I can live with everything else..

When Lucas makes the dvds he can fit both version on one disc. T2 ultimate edition has three diffrent versions of the film, plus it will probably be a 2-disc set with a bunch of extras

yeah yeah. rant and counter-rant and complaint and rebuttal.
i'm just glad that the decision has been finalized so i can go out and buy a bootleg of the OT without feeling like i'm wasting my money.

Well I hope Lucas sees sense and when releasing the DVD's he puts both the Original and Special Edition on. They'll both fit.

Yeah, I would tend to agree, but who the hell knows if GL won't change his mind on this issue. He has been known to change certain things from time to time, y'know?

Well, I won't cross my fingers, but it is possible that he meant that the originals just won't be released by themselves.

bootlegs of the original films are harder to acquire than i had thought. anyone know where i might find a decent dvd bootleg of the trilogy (unaltered)? and does anyone know if there was an unaltered version of the trilogy on laserdisc, or just special edtion?
RollaFett

There is definatley unaltered versions on laser disc. My dad has a huge laser-disc collection, and the OT is included.

that confirmed, all that's left now is to find a dvd bootleg of it.

Have you checked out ebay yet? Hell, if you can't find DVD's there, you may be able to find the laser-discs, and from there, you may be able to make your own DVD's.
