I think there needs to be a thread dedicated to release dates of future books and comics. I used to have a website that seemed to be pretty accurate, but reviewing it lately, it's completely missing the Legacy comic series. So, I thought we could pool our energies and come up with a good database for when stuff is coming out, or at least give some links.

Right now, all I know for sure is that Legacy of the Force: Betrayal is due out May 30, 2006.

Oh wow, let me jump right in here to plug my site's release-date schedule (including books (both fiction and non-fiction), as well as comics... It has links to sources and interviews and stuff...

Just click the Books and Comics Release Schedule from the main page (and let me know what you think of my little effort...)

I would let you know, but when I click on the Release Schedule, it says URL not found or something.... Sorry!

Looks quite good! There are a lot of wierd things on there, though, that I've not heard of. Revenge of the Clone Menace?

Looking forward to the death star book. The Timothy Zahn book Allegiance, is this the novel set between ANH and ESB that I've heard rumours of???

From the Random House interview with Timothy Zahn:

Q:Are you working on anything else in the Star Wars universe?

TZ: I’m just finishing my eighth Star Wars book, Allegiance. It fits into the timeline a short time after A New Hope, which means Luke is not yet a Jedi, but Mara Jade is firmly ensconced in her position as the Emperor’s Hand.

edit: is it a good idea if I put up a short list of upcoming thingies in this thread and update it on a weekly (or so) basis (just like I do for my website?)

That would be fantasmic.

That is a great schedule, eddie! I learned about a few projects from it: the 3 X-Wing collections, the Tales of the Jedi omnibus, and the Episodes I-III sheet music.

Do you mind if I use your schedule to highlight the current and upcoming book releases on my radio show (with appropriate recognition, of course)?

Master Magnus
05-04-2006, 03:01 AM
^If there's a mistake, you'll have to blame me as it is I who edits that thread. :D Thanks for pointing that out, I'll check it out!

EDIT: Hmm, those are the dates reported by Dark Horse. Very strange. I guess that they've must have forgotten to update their site. On the other hand, the story doesn't start until #1 (#0 is an introduction).

eddie

Legacy # 0 was to come out well before # 1, but due to circumstances at DH, this was not possible...

Here's Randy Stradley's post from April 16:

it took a bit longer than anticipated to put together all of the material for issue #0. It's going to be delayed. I'll let you know how long.

The good news is, the delay on #0 will not affect the release date of issue #1. It will still arrive on schedule.

And Jan Duursema chimed in on April 27:

It's really all my fault...

There was always 'one more' piece of art to do, one more thing that would look really cool with color, one more paragraph to complete the setup... etc. The book may be a little late, but Legacy is just so chock full of things we wanted to tell you about that it was just tough to resist expanding on stuff for it.

Apparently, there is a new Making Of... book on the way to coincide with the release of the OT in their original form: An Australian 20th Century Fox press-release mentioned the following:

Star Wars fans and movie buffs alike will get a thrill from the first-ever publication of The Making of Star Wars: A New Hope in the fall.

Read the entire press-release on the Australian DVDbits site at the following link:

http://www.dvdbits.com/press.asp?viewrelease=702

This is the only source I could find which mentions this book (after surfing the net for over an hour)...

Master Magnus
05-05-2006, 05:05 PM
^Yeah, I read about it this morning (although the site failed to open for me at that time). I noticed that Sue Rostoni (Eeusu Estornii) confirmed it here (although no details were offered):

http://forums.starwars.com/thread.jspa?thr...2689&start=1995 (http://forums.starwars.com/thread.jspa?threadID=222689&start=1995)

No date has been specified as of yet (only "in the fall"), but it sure looks like something to really look forward to!

Dark Horse's website is great for a general idea of when a comic is coming out, but they often change the date or do not ship on time. Diamond Comics has actual shipping lists for the upcoming Wednesday and the week following that. Whenever I have seen a title on the Monday update, it has always appeared two days later. This has saved me much disappointment when I shop for comics.

Master Magnus

I've changed the date tentatively for Legacy #0 to May 31 (pending further confirmation from Dark Horse).

from the picture I attached in the EUDF hanger bay, Betrayal is definitely out and I started reading it last night. So I think it's still on for May 30 if that helps. I think I got an early copy because my book store doesn't give a damn.

For anyone who is starting to pick up DH comics, you'll soon find out that delays are a common thing.

DarthSolo
05-20-2006, 11:33 PM
I would fall under that category. Can you usually get the SW graphic novels at B&N or Borders?

I checked both of the above stores today, and neither had LOTF. :(

Tarkin the Ewok
05-20-2006, 11:56 PM
B&N and Border's know better than to break street date on Lucas titles. They will have it out on display May 30 and not a day before.

They do sell graphic novels, but their selection is limited. Unless you have a coupon, you'd do better to check your local comic shop or Amazon.

eddie
05-21-2006, 02:40 AM
The official street date of Legacy of the Force: Betrayal is still May 30, but apparently a bookstore here and there (and then especially 'there' as in the US, as I do not believe that we Europeans would be able to get it before May 30) put it on the shelves early. This is a common-heard occurance as someone usually gets hold of a book before the street-date...

And regarding Dark Horse, in my 15 years of collecting SW-comics fom them, I am getting used to the occasional delay (which got worse when Randy Stradley became editor of the line, but IMHO the art and stories got better). Lately they have been on time again, not considering Legacy # 0 which has been floating around for the past several weeks. But as Tarkin the Ewok pointed out, a really good source is the Diamond shipping list which can be accessed at the following external link:

http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping.asp

On another note, Legacy # 1 has been pushed back to June 21 now that Legacy # 0 is on June 7...

You can usually order them there. I myself get angry when I look for some TPBs to find magna has taken over the selection.

Oh yeah, BTW: you can erase the Lego guide for Sept. 5 as it is mentioned twice in the list and it is now scheduled for Sept. 13...
Oh, thanks. I didn't notice it.

Okay, 'major' update regarding the Star Wars comics from Dark Horse which were to be published this week: there will be NONE!!!! :but:

- Clone Wars Adventures Vol. 6 has been moved from Aug. 9 to Aug. 16
- Legacy # 3 has been moved likewise from Aug. 9 to Aug. 16

but the worst of all: according to the DH release-schedule, Rebellion # 5 (which DID appear on the Diamon shipping list earlier in the week but has since been removed from it) has been rescheduled from Aug. 9 to September 27!!! :but: (Looks like DH is reverting to their 'old habit' again...)

edit: on the bright side: the Karen Traviss ebook Boba Fett: A Practical Man has apparently been moved from Aug. 28 to Aug. 15!!!! :)

I will hold off updating the release schedule with this new information until we learn more.

(for non-USians, the book IS available from http://www.diesel-ebooks.com/ ) as not all US online shops 'ship' to Europe and other territories...

Well, looks like we will have NO Star Wars comics this week as well... :(

The release-dates of RepCom books 3 and 4 have been confirmed by Sue Rostoni: Book 3 will be published in August 2007, while Book 4 is due in August 2008...

And we will have another Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures digest (Vol. 7) in January 2007 (I will post the new dates tomorrow: they are already online on my website, though)...

Well, it appears Legacy # 3 has been postponed and will now be out on September 13 (according to the preview-link at the DH-site). I guess this means that # 4 (slated for Sept. 6) will also be rescheduled... :( :( :(

from Jeremy Barlow over at the DH forums:

I can't comment on Legacy, but I'll cop to Rebellion #5 being late. I apologize. Brandon needed more time to really push the issue through the roof, and rather than replace him with another artist, as I did on issue #3, I pushed the book back to let him finish. Having Brandon end the story spectacularly seemed more important to me than getting it out on time with another artist. It was a tough call, and I really, really hate that it had to play out this way, but sometimes that's how it goes. It'll all look pretty when it's collected. I hope you'll find the results to be worth the wait.

As for Clone Wars Adventures vol. 6 -- I don't know what's up there. I've had advance copies of that book in my office since early June, so any release delay is likely a transport issue (since we print that book in China and have it shipped over by boat). ::shrugs::

And from Jan Duursema over at TFN:

Hi all--

Many apologies for the delay with issue 3. Sometimes even when you think it's all covered, there's that one last unforseen thing that does not fall neatly into place.

We're exploring some new territory in Star Wars with this one. Personally, I think it will be worth the wait. After 3, we should be back on track with the rest. In the meantime, I keep wondering--when this issue finally hits the stands, will we hear individual screams or will be it more like the sound of a whole planet...

Master Magnus

Pheew! The release schedule has been updated. Due to the 20,000 character limit, I had to split it in two posts. The first part covers the period August 2006 to May 2007 and the second part covers the period June 2007 to November 2008.

If you spot any mistakes, mention it here.

Okay, some major changes in DH schedule appeared (I will try to update them in this thread before the weekend: I did already update them on my site)...

Anyways, Knights of the Old Republic # 8, which should come out today, has been rescheduled for September 13...

And Legacy # 4 will not be part of the Broken-storyline which will continue on Sept. 13 in Legacy # 3: To get back on the publication-track, this filler-issue takes place during the events of # 3 (and will show events in the galaxy at the time of Legacy...)

and, from Karen Traviss' blog:

"Mr.Vader (sir) has been somewhat neglected of late in this blog, so it's nice to get his Force-choking mitts off my gizzard by announcing that the two Vader short stories I wrote for Insider last year will both be reprinted in the paperback edition of Betrayal by Aaron Allston.

In His Image and A Two-Edged Sword are a two-part story (or a short and its sequel) about Vader's early days in the job as 2IC to Palpatine. Instead of making Sithy caf and picking up the dry cleaning, he's tasked to go out and find some more clone templates to build up the Imperial Army. One batch that proves jolly interesting is a Dark Jedi trooper, but it's not half so interesting as coming to terms with working for the most devious man this side of the Black Stump. (No, I mean Palpatine. Get off, Darth Blair!)

If your thang is stormies with lightsabers, you'll enjoy this. In His Image was previously only available in Insider's Vader Souvenir Guide, which had a VERY short print run for collectors and now fetches silly prices on eBay."

Meanwhile, Darth Vader must deal with some unpleasant realities—and memories—of his own. Though he is a Dark Lord of the Sith, even he must bow before the power of the Emperor.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic # 12
US comic: written by John Jackson Miller, art by Brian Ching, coverart by Hoon

For this misfit crew of unlikely heroes, life in the Old Republic is anything by idyllic. Scheming to scrounge up some scratch on the banking world of Telerath, they’ve run afoul of two bounty-hunting brothers as dangerous to the galaxy as they are to each other. It’s going to take more than a lightsaber to get Zayne and his friends out of this one—such as deceits, disguises, and a bit of the good ol’ fashioned Force!

from J.W. Rintzler’s blog: I've finished the first draft of the Making of Star Wars book--this is for the original 1977 film. George Lucas read the rough draft, made some corrections, filled in some blanks, and signed off on that. So now the captions are done for the chosen images--many, many never seen before--and we're just starting the design for the book, which comes out in April 2007. So we're in fairly good shape.
