Del Rey has posted a short but sweet (!) interview with Karen Traviss about Bloodlines.
Beware the spoilers! (http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9780345477514&view=qa)

The Official Site has posted an excerpt (http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/novel/f20060829/indexp5.html) as well. I must say that the dialogue in that (short) excerpt was quite stale. Other than that it seems interesting.

Well, I've finished this book. I thought it was generally pretty good. Jacen has definetly stepped over my comfort line. Fully and completely. And disturbingly.

Bottom line: I loved it.
As I said in the review, even though I'm a big fan of Karen's work I was rather concerned about her moving into the post-NJO era.
I should have had more faith. ;)

You mentioned representing paedophiles.
Are you a lawyer?

Yes, a Legal Aid Children's Court Lawyer - mostly representing kids, but sometimes for various reasons we have to represent the parent/s instead.

It sounds interesting. I was going to get it when it came out, but my finances for the next two weeks were a little more than expected so I have to wait until this wed to pick it up. Oh well.

Hi guys. Just finished bloodlines this morning. Its an interesting book. Boba Fett was the best. It was fun reading about him and his family. I knew that a certain person was going dark and I knew what he was going to have to do. No surprise there. And his parents reactions weren't a surprise as well.
It was good overall and tempest sounds like its going to be interesting as well. We will see:cool:

Anyone who tries to maintain that Jacen is not going dark after this announcement (http://www.starwars.com/darthwho) at sw.com is simply in denial. :p
Glad you finally finished it. I'll have to call and we can chat about it. :)

So Jacen gets his Darth title in book 5, eh? Can't wait!
And wow, I really wish I could think of a perfect perfect name for Darth Jacen!
I just submitted my name, using a term from Old English.

Sounds interesting, I want to do Law in College and (hopefully) Uni. My only problem with the latter would be scraping up the UAI -- which certainly wouldn't be a problem if I was better at Maths (or if my school more than rarely allow students to drop Math in Year 11 & 12)

Actually I was kind of thinking along the same lines myself. Even though I dont want to see my favorite main character from Star Wars assasinated I can see Jacen doing something like that... however I can also see another jedi master hunting him down if he did hurt luke until her dying days.
Of course if Jacen did do that it might bring a certain person back from denial land

I'm pretty sure that that certain female Jedi Master will realize what's up soon, and then be the most feverishly pissed off person goin'. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Jacen take her out as she attempts to attack him.

Nah, Mara will go after Lumiya. I don't see her attacking her nephew...at least not directly.

If he's getting into Ben's head, I'll bet she will. Maybe Jacen killing Mara will be what makes Ben ultimately realize Jacen is going down the wrong path.

Having just re-read Betrayal, I'd say that if anyone's going to kill Jacen it will be Luke - although Mara might well be there backing him up.

I would love to see Jacen try... ;) I just had a disturbing thought what if Ben does go sith and his job is to go after his parents. Hmmmm interesting or their death especially Mara's would be the final straw to push him over. He's such a momma's boy.
Thats awsome about your family. I think it would be so cool getting a job overseas.

Actually, if ANYONE is going to be hunted by the Jedi and killed, it will be Lumiya. In fact, Luke KNOWS shes around again, and and would not hesitate do his duty as Grand Master of the Jedi Order and defeat the Dark Lady of the Sith. Mara Jade would want to snap her neck if she found out just how bad Lumiya has made things,(remember what she wanted to do to Viqi Shesh?), Leia and Han would want to get her for everything she did in the past and present that affeccted them, Jacen might turn on his Sith Master and assume the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith, Ben himself would probably hate Lumiya if he found out enough about her, Jaina would do her duty as a Jedi and help defeat the Dark Lady, and so would the other Jedi.

Jacen's done enough Force Rubs on Ben that he might have already done some damage. He's been doing that since Ben was little, and that already had Jaina concerned then. I wonder if Luke has caught on to that yet.

Well, Luke and Mara know Jacen's given Ben one memory rub, but they don't know the truth about why and to what extent.

here's another wild idea... perhaps maybe Ben Skywalker turns to the darkside a little after Jacen does... Ben could possibly be Darth Krayt?
Vesper
10-25-2006, 09:23 AM
Then how would those guys in Legacy Comics get the name Skywalker?
I get the impression Mara is past child-bearing age.
Cassus Fett
10-25-2006, 09:51 AM
they dont have to be direct decendents of Anakin, Luke and Ben they could possibly be other Skywalker's in the galaxy.
DarthSolo
10-25-2006, 09:29 PM
We're pretty sure they are descendants, though I suppose that hasn't been proven. But, who's to say that Darth Ben Skywalker can't reproduce? I'm sure he'll probably still have the anatomy, unless he goes all great-granddad on us.
But, as to Ben being Krayt, I don't think so, for the simple reason that Krayt states in his first monologue in issue 1 (i believe) that he was around, watching, while the Jedi reeled against the Yuuzhan Vong. Ben couldn't walk at the end of the Yuuzhan Vong war. Jacen may be a legit Darth Krayt, but I doubt it, considering TOS is hosting a contest to name Jacen's Sith character, unless he's gonna have a name change at the end.
LEGACY COMIC SPOILERS BELOW
To take into consideration, a preview I saw of issue 5 in the Legacy comic shows that Darth Krayt is not really considered a Sith by the true Sith lords. I can see Darth Jacen going against the grain of the Sith. I can also see Lumiya not truly being a Sith or teaching Sith teachings, and decieving him.
BUT
We also know from that preview that Krayt has something Yuuzhan Vong inside him that is eating away at his body. I'm not ENTIRELY sure that counts Jacen out, but I do think he got his slave seeds removed in the end. Correct me if I'm wrong there.
Anyway, my guess at Krayt's identity is that we don't know him yet. I think he is someone like Lomi Plo and Welk were: a non-Jedi Force-user gone Sith.

Then how would those guys in Legacy Comics get the name Skywalker?
I get the impression Mara is past child-bearing age.
Remember, 60 is the new 40. Luke and Mara are only around 55-ish and I can tell you that 40 is not too old for women to have children.
Also... and I still can't believe how few people seemed to have picked up on this... back when the Legacy comics were first announced, it was stated that Cade is a direct descendant of Luke and Anakin. People started speculating in the thread as to how far removed he was (ie: Ben's son?), and John Ostrander replied with this:
"Cade couldn't be Ben's son; the timing doesn't work. He could be the GRANDSON. Assuming that he's Ben's offspring at all.<g>" (http://www.darkhorse.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=118610#118610) (emphasis added)
That, to me, is a clue that Luke and Mara may still have another child.
I, too, was thinking Ben may be Darth Krayt, but then I found out about the monologue DS mentioned from the first issue. Now I'm not so sure. I'm still holding to the hope that Ben will come to his senses soon and get away from Jacen. "Run away! Far away!"

lol, well I'm sure there are, but...somehow I don't see that happening...although, Tahiri is one of the most mentally messed up characters in the history of the galaxy. She's schizzo YV, and got herself some Joiner, too! And don't forget her lover dying at a young, young age!
Ya never know. Would Star Wars push the limits THAT much?

According to LFL, it is most likely that Ben will remain the only child of Luke and Mara.
There is someone we are still all missing out, Jaina. Yes i know she's Leia's daughter and no longer a Skywalker (although she is part Skywalker) she could still have a child and perhaps have the child left in the care of Luke and Mara in the event of her death or something along those lines.
And does anyone know which book Krayt will make his appearance? i know he already in the comics but when's he coming to the books?

I believe it was Ostrander or one of the LOTF trio that said at TFN that contact between the two creative teams is minimal. I doubt Krayt will show up.

Yeah, I doubt that Krayt will show up in LOTF, though it would be nice.
I do think Krayt will get some book time, eventually though, because the Legacy comic series has a perfect set up story outlined already. The story of how the Sith manipulated the Yuuzhan Vong and the Jedi and the Empire and the GA into the war that fuels the comics. That will be a great novel.

Really? Where do you get this information?
And that's not what I was referring to anyway. I was talking about the plan for the YV to help re-form many planets and how the Sith sabatoged that, leading to the Sith-Imperial War. But I'd still like to have the books cover it, if possible.
So, where do you get your info on the next Legacy story line. It makes little sense, as the current story line takes place after the Sith-Imp War, and it seems to be focused mostly on Cade, whose storyline is obviously not concluded. Why would they abandon that?
