I just wanted to know if any one still has the good ol' game. I do. And now I really only use it as reference to aid me in exploring the EU.
Cracken's Threat Dossier helped me to understand Black Fleet Crisis a little better.

Nevermind. Just found the Coruscant Theater heading for this kind of topic. Thanks

I am the proud owner of all WEG SW books (except for DS technical companion 1st ed. and the Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook)...
Additional book-info can be found on my good ol' website under Books and Comics... :tease:

R U SERIOUS!?!
don't be a jerk. not everyone knows about the pen and paper RPGs
basically, the West End Games RPGs were your typical pen and paper, roll the 20-sided die, +1 vibroblade kind of thing....like old school D&D
but what made the West End stuff great was all of the source books, which contained info on different characters and vehicles, and that's where a lot of the statistics of the EU come in, is through those books
I'm sure there's more to it than just that, but that's as far as my knowledge goes...

Proper netiquette is to at least add an LOL or similar smiley at the end of such a post so as to get your insults or quips in without being labeled a jerk. :P
Seriously though, pen and paper is best when you have a good group of friends to play with. Otherwise, it just gets kind of boring and frustrating.

That's the exact problem I had. I tried getting into the Wizards of the Coast game that came out after Episode I, and got all this great stuff with it too, and it never went anywhere because I knew nobody who wanted to play. it was very sad.

Yes, but unfortunately a lot of those statistics were wrong and it has taken a long time to get rid of the misunderstandings (such as the length of the Executor, the height of the AT-AT etc.). However, the sourcebooks on topics such as the Imperial military (without the erroneous stats) are yet to be surpassed and are excellent in their respects.

just dont place too much emphasis on the numbers and statistics in the sourcebooks, and focus on the text and other info, as well as the pics. Once you go West End, you never go back...

Yeah, that is about what I would say myself (without that last sentence though :P).

I completely agree: I still find what WEG did was the best thing which could happen to the EU... I cherish my WEG-collection and thumb through the various books on a regular basis... Too bad they bankrupted...

^Great minds think alike!
I dont have every West End SB or action figure, but I have most all, yet above every other, my favorite is the SW Roleplaying game, you know, the one with the astory about Lt. Veers saving the lives of his fellow soldiers and how he earned a field promotion to Major.

Yep, great little story. I liked these small vignettes in the older books a lot... Remember the letter home from a Rebel pilot? And what about the full-color in-universe advertisements of the first books?
But my all-time favorites were definitely the Adventure Journals: it cost me a little to get them all 15, but they are definitely worth it...
Now, if I only succeeded in getting the Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook...

So how easy is online pen and paper? Couldn't it be an adequate alternative for those who can't find fellow roleplayers in their close vicinity? With the ability of quick information exchange through the internet, even voice chat, it sounds like if everyone's got their roleplaying supplies it should play out without much difficulty.

Oh, I forgot to remark that I have NEVER actually played the game... When Star Wars was dying in the late '80s, West End was the only thing to cling to for me, as it provided us with a lot of new information and adventures in my favorite universe. I did buy all the core RPG-books, but only to have my collection complete...

I know... But if there's a bright center to the universe... (i.e. there are no people around here who want to play it with me...) :(

I will if we can find a place to play.
